Hi,
I'm on XXELK rom, the polish 4.1.2, rooted with CF 6.4 and CWM touch, Siyah kernel v1.8.6, some tweaks added via STweaks (little bit of undervolting, GPU too etc.), and a little modding here and there (really, just 3 things: 23 toggles mod, 3 way boot + crt off + multiview for any app).
I froze some apps such as messaging, internet, all share cast, sammy's own bloatware I never use.
Anyway, NFC works just fine, it clicks right away when back to back with my Nexus 7 or another S3, beams content and whatsoever, except for 1 app: NFC Postemobile.
This is a relatively new app by the Italian MVNO, which uses their own new SIM that has a prepaid (rechargeable) MasterCard included, for making payments just as Google Wallet works.
As a matter of fact, back with ICS, I had a GW modded apk on my S3 and it worked like a charm (well, while the $10 lasted, as it couldn't be recharged), so no problem with payments either.
Now, all this app does is let you click on a "Activate Payment" button, gives you 60 seconds to do the magic with the PayPass thing, and it supposed to give you either a "success, €2,00 paid by PayPass" message or an error message.
Well, I tried and retried (thanks, McDonalds guys ), but the app seems to do nothing when activated and placed anyway (believe me, I tried in ANY way) on the POS(with Google Wallet there was an instant *beep* and the payment was made).
Is there any way to find out if this is an error within the app, or if I broke the NFC communication in some way by modding something? Can I try anywhere else (possibly without losing money on the prepaid card ) to see if the app actually triggers the NFC chip or not?
If you read till now, thank you. If you have a solution, thank you 1000 times. :victory:
P.s. I have 2 original NFC batteries, tried both, no luck. Also, NFC works perfectly on my Samsung TecTiles, meaning it's not broken...
Please guys, nobody?
I'm here trying to figure out the problem, and since NFC communication works in any other app I guess it's just an app issue, but several others on the market seem to have it working...

Today I reverted back to XXELK with no mods at all, just for the sake of trying, but the app doesn't work anyway.
Isn't there a way to, with another NFC phone or tablet, "intercept" the NFC signal sent from the phone (if any) while I click on "activate payment"?

Here and there I see people report that they've successfully scanned some cards with an NFC-enabled ROM. I've never had any luck, even coming off fresh wipe/installs (no themes or anything).
I know Google Wallet won't work, I just want to test it out.
If you've had it working, post what ROM, kernel, and app you used--please!

I used NFC TagInfo, works on VillainROM Hellraised, should work on Unnamed.
Note that on I9100 Hellraised ROMs, you must be in the TagInfo app when tapping the card. If you are not, the NFC service may force close due to permissions issues with many cards. (A Mastercard PayPass credit card doesn't cause an FC, an NFC Type 2 card with NDEF data will.)
I'm running Unamed and used the app "tag info" and about 6 other ones lol they all worked without me having to be in the app I held my card near the phone, the furthest being ~3 inches, and it still read it lol just wish I could test it out some kind of way at a store.

Hmm. I'm almost certain I tried it out on VillainROM a couple of days ago when I Hellraised it just for the....err, hell of it. I've tried TagInfo and NFC TagInfo. Maybe I just don't have any readable cards.
Hi! I would like to know app (free if is possible) to get my phone back if I loss it or if my phone is stolen. I have heard about Cerberus that is a very good application, but I would like some opinions about it.
Thanks in advance!
If it work's in your country Samsung Dive. Free and available out of the box.
I personally use PhoneLocatorPro, very much like Dive but this can take pics on attempted failed login when you have pin/pattern etc activated.
Also like the fact as like Dive you can place it into system/app so you can turn GPS off but when tracking on website it activates GPS.
There are free alternatives, search the market and read user reviews.
You can find a roundup of many apps here: http://www.androidpolice.com/topics/features-2/mobile-security-app-shootout/
Avast mobile for android all free with remote wipe etc etc
Works for most.
One great feature of Samsung Dive is that it is not controlled by SMS, I say this because those can be blocked with the wrong settings. Here is a real life example that happened to me personally.
1: I installed Avast on my sisters Android phone (not Samsung so no Dive)
2: I tested the locate feature and it worked
3: A couple months go by and some app updates occured. Specifically Go SMS which suddenly turned on the feature to stop multiple notifications by blocking other SMS apps (I have been confused by this before on other phones until I figured it out)
4: Suddenly I went to use the locate feature and it never worked because Go was blocking it.
Luckily I wasn't trying to find a lost phone but just cheaping out on asking for directions to a birthday party.
I may suggest using two, Dive and another. For features from both.

Here's the best advice: Take a note of your IMEI number, as if and when you lose or have your phone stolen, the first thing to go is your SIM. Phone your network provider, and ask them to block the phone completely by giving them the IMEI number and your mobile number.
They will do this for you, as I have done this before. This will render the phone completely useless to the thief. You can then have your same phone number ported back on to another new sim if you want with the balance added.
Also its handy for the police report/Insurance claim etc.
And a few day's later I got a call from the police that the phone was in a local phone shop! The Idiot took it there to try and get it sorted, but the guy new the IMEI was locked/Barred and inquired about it, and contacted the police.
So happy day's
PS I got a new one fron the insurance anyway so beware, they can flash your firmware and get rid of all your fancy anti thief, but cannot change your IMEI
FPMen
You should try Avast, it is a very good app, I use it too, but you should take care of your beloved phone!
Thanks for your answer! I will try some free app and I will copy my IMEI too... every thing that I could do to protect my phone... I will do it!
im using netqin security..
My favourites are seekdroid, androidlost, lookout and avast. I use them all.

+1 for Avast. They bought the really nice app Theft Aware, and they improved and integrated their features into Avast. It's especially useful with rooted phones (offers more security), but works with non-rooted devices also. The best thing about it is that you don't require a network connection for it to work (like Samsung Dive does); and it can force data connection on, so you can connect with Dive . You can control the app via SMS. And it's also free on the market.

+1. Been playing with it since last night, it really is excellent.
You can get rid of the virus scanner/firewall bloatware easily too.
+1 for avast, really nice app
avast is good because it needs no internet connection to work. Most anti-theft apps only work when connected to the internet...
i first installed avast, then installed the anti-theft and gave it a nicen ame
then i unstalled the anti-virus because i dont need it and it uses to much battery.
I would really recommend hxxp://phonelocatorpro.com/ only cost about $4.

just downloaded this and it works spot on, even takes a photo if they try putting in wrong passwords to unlock the phone and emails it to you
works very very well well worth the £4
I bought these nfc tags off Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-NFC-t...ue-13-56Mhz-ISO14443A-Mifare-1K-/160784861558
Unfortunately they are not formatted and my phone (running shostock's 2.2.6 ics) cannot format them. When I try to write to them it says:
The tag does not support ndef standard
Some looking up on the web showed that ICS used to have this bug:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22258
But according to the more recent comments on that page, this was fixed with 4.0.3.
So my question is this:
Does anyone know if it's possible to format unformatted nfc tags using the i777?
(As this is the only device I have capable of doing anything with nfc tags)
I'm willing to flash any rom, but I've been too busy of late to trial and error test different roms to see if it can be done. If anyone can point me in the right direction of what to read or if there are roms that can format these tags, I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried using the NXP Tag Writer App?

Thank you! I have tried using it before and it didn't work. But I kept at it this time because I knew you got it to work. After about 3 or 4 write fails and nfc quit working and refused to turn back on so I had to reboot the phone, it finally worked! Really appreciate you taking the time to offer the suggestion.
out of curiosity, what are you trying to accomplish with the nfc tags?
Only thing I use NFC tags for is profile changing. 1 on my desk at home, one in my car, 1 in my desk at work. Turns on/off bluetooth, wifi, sound and mobile data according to where I am.
Same here but I have a separate tag for Pandora in the car. I don't always want to use it.
Plus I'm offering posters to businesses in town that allow for four square check in. And the one at the local theater not only does four square check in but also puts phones on silent , I know, I've been busy these past few days.
One next to the bed for all the things I normally check when I wake up. It opens everything and then I use Gesture Controls "kill app" to close each one once I'm done, which shows the app behind it without going first to the home screen.
Now if I can start my car with an nfc tag. Obvious security issue? I hope so!
I just got some unformatted nfc tags and can't seem to get them to write. I used the nxp tag writer but it refuses to write to it no matter how many times I tried. Also I don't exactly see a format option any where in the app. Do i just keep trying to write a text string till it works? I also have nfc task launcher but it also will not write. It once said successful but it didn't have anything on it when i checked with tag info. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am running shostock2 2.2.6.
[update] I restored my icscrewed nandroid and was able to write to the tags. So I'm assuming (bad word I know) that it may be due to the ICS nfc bug. But I thought it was fixed in 4.0.3
NXP did the same thing to me, but I kept doing a bunch of times and finally it formatted one. Once it did one successfully it did all the other ones no problem.
I just nandroided back to icscrewed and wrote a simple text string to each and then restored back to shostock2. A hassle I know, but once they're written to they work in ics just fine. I can overwrite as needed now.

I have no problem writing unformatted tags in shostock.. the app which comes stardard in the rom can only read the tags. Try some free app in the market. I remember using an app from NXP semicondutors (Tagwriter) its free and works great. It formats the tag for you, but I guess its in the setting so you got to enable that
I thought i would make post detailing all the possible ways to use our xperia nfc phones for payment and if we can get Google Wallet to work
Method A) UK- In the UK the Orange quick tap app has been released for the galaxy s3, this may be expanded to other NFC phones soon
(dont know about anyother countries but if anyone knows then ill add the info
Method B) Google Wallet
So this is what i know so far i think this is all correct
There is a secure element in our phones
The wallet app does not appear in the app drawer (not sure why exactly) I tried defrosting it however it does not appear in titanium backup
A older version of the app does appear AND launches however only when NFC is turned off when it is turned on it crashes
Reasons for the app not working could possibly be because the nfc libs are not all there or are modified. This was a problem for other phones but is fixable by replacing the libs *i think*
I do not know how the app behaves under cm9 or cm10 or under Kangs jellybean port because my bootloader is not unlocked so could anyone try ?

I managed to get hold of the quick tap wallet apk, it installs perfectly on my Xperia S, however when you launch it, it brings a message asking for a NFC sim, which orange won't provide as yet

In Singapore, you need to change to nfc SIM first. Services provided are dependant on the Teleco. 1 of them only have ezlink function(a card for trains, bus etc), while another teleco provide master card service.

Yeah I've been trying for the last 2 days to get GWallet working with no success. All the modded versions don't install and the real version installs fine but errors with "This device is not supported"
Have put the question up on Modaco where Paul made the modded version but have yet to receive a response.
Started a thread here in the apps section but just got silly comments back unfortunately.
Would love to get it working
Bootloader ???
Does anyone have an unlockable bootloader and are able to try the app on cm9 or cm10 ?
since beginning of November in Poland (t-mobile and orange) has started nfc payments. xperia s is supported.
i'll write more when i'll test it
I've just got a Barclaycard RFID chip stuck on the back of my Xperia S
it works! and it works perfectly!
i can choose between different cards and banks, I can set default card and pay without unlocking my phone...
in local shops, when walking or riding a bike I dont have to remember and take care of my wallet...
soon it should be an ability to buy a ticket to the cinema, theatre, match etc thr the phone and then just use nfc to enter that places...
i hope NFC will expand
How have they implemented it? Do you need a special SIM for it or using the stock NFC chips on the Xperia?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
one have to switches micro sim card to nfc micro sim (free for me), then one receives an app MyWallet where you can set bank's cards, default card, preferences, security. and that's all. if you set default card you can pay when the phone is locked or even turned off (battery can't be empty)...
components:
1) SIM NFC;
2) MyWallet app;
3) NFC controller;
4) Wallet management server

well, it does. it works only with NFC phones and uses phone's NFC chip... NFC SIM is security reason
Yeah, compared to the dark times of my Nexus S, there was barely any NFC apps worth mentioning. Now that I'm a proud owner of the Note 2, I'm seeking for a good app. There's just so many in the market when I search for NFC. What NFC app is everyone here using to satisfy your NFC needs?
For now, I'm just using thr stock apps. I flashed Omega V4 earlier, and I've realised I can receive files using Wifi-Direct but I can't send them. So, I'm having to use an alternative app.... Small issues aside; I love thisbphone, NFC is awesome.
Anytag launcher is a great one, doesn't need u to write on a chip as it works with even read only tags, and u can configure it to your needs accordingly.
This is my first nfc enabled device, so I'm not that much of an expert in it,
hope it helps though.

Nfc task launcher.
Tapatalkteando desde mi móvil.
NFC Task Launcher - this is the best one in my view, works easily and never had it fail.
AnyTAG NFC - as stated above, this works for ANY NFC tag. (eg, I have it so that when I hold my phone to be credit card it starts my banking app)
RemoteStick - turning on my living lights by putting my phone on the coffee table..
InstaWifi - connects to a wifi network by tag - had this installed before and still use the tags from it, but NFC Task Launcher can do the same thing.
I'm keeping my eyes open for more NFC apps. Will definitely be keeping my eye on this thread
