[Q] JB XXLSJ can´t change alert sound ?!? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I just updated to XXLSJ via ODIN (sources form this forum). I also rooted using PhilZ CWM v3.1 kernel.
Everything works fine except the notification sound in stock email apk. Whatever I change it to it always uses the "Postman" sound which was default after flasing. I have also changed the default system sound to something else but the email apk seems to ingore this setting as well.
Any help or thoughts will be appreciated!
Thanks!

I have similar problem with XXLSJ Firmware (NeatRom). I tried to change the alert sound but the postman is still ringing. My solution of this problem is quite simple. Just pick a melody you would like to sound when emails come in and rename it to S_Postman.ogg. All the notifications are placed in /system/media/audio/notifications. You need root privilleges to do this. I used Root Explorer but you can use any other software to do it. Good luck!

[Q] Can I delete notification sounds safely?

Hello everyone, I was wondering, I have the wonderful Bionix 1.8 installed using JAC's ocuv voodoo kernel and have a problem that has persisted for over a month now. I figured I would ask here to not clutter som's thread.
All I want to do is delete every notification sound off my phone, except for the "Tweeters" sound file. I have selected tweeters as my main notify sound but I keep getting a musical riff that is endless and extremely annoying. So, is it safe to remove these files and force the phone to use only one sound file? Anyone know where these files are stored and how they can be deleted?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Sound files are all over the place on the phone. Try using root explorer, swtich to read write mode and then delete the sound files you do not want.

[Q] ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Passion v11 Ringtones not saving?

Does anyone have the problem with the latest ICS passion rom that your ringtones dont save when you reboot? I have to set them each time I reboot my phone.
Anyone know of this or how to fix it?
Thanks so much,
Rob
I am unable to replicate your problem. I've set my settings under "Sound/ ringtone & Notifications" and reboot and they still have the same settings and ringtones.
Otherwise the only way that I believe your settings change is if you recently upgraded or that you have a bad flash. Maybe reflashing will fix this.

I'm going to assume you are using a custom ringtone. It seems to be a cm9 thing. ICS Passion is based on cm9. there are other settings that don't stick too like adb debugging etc.
No problems here. I had to reset them after flashing the new kernel, but that was about it.
I can choose my Ringtone but the settings are note saved
Same for me I`m on 1.3 ICSNexusHD2-4.0.3
I can choose my Ringtone but the settings are note saved.
only the standardringtone I choose (f.e. my own ringtone) is saved
I mark an original ringtone and tap ok, after reopen the settings the ton wasn`t saved !
Any helpfull solutions ??

[Q] Why is ICS changing my ringtone?

Hi,
ICS runs fine on my S2 (I´m on LPF right now, very stable ROM), but one thing annoys me a lot: ICS keeps changing my standard ringtone and notification by itself... it somehow seems to be connected to connecting the phone via USB in MTP or storage mode. Other users have the same problem so it´s not a phone issue, but rather ISC. Had the sam problem with a custom rom (Clean Blank Rom) so i guess it´s a core ICS problem. Tied anything, from putting the ringtones to the injternal SD or system/media and tried converting the ringtones from Mp3 to OGG ... still it changes occasionally.
Any hints on how to get to the base of this problem and solve it?
Thanks,
Kusie
P.S.: always do a full wipe before flashing a new ROM, so this is no cache issue

I was running on different ICS ROM version (all stock), but never had this issue.
ATM, I am on XWLPD and using mp3 files as standard ringtone and notification sound.
Maybe it is caused by a combination of different things, so that this issue does not affect all ICS users.

Most probably, yes... maybe it´s connected to a certain app that is causing this problem... yesterday evening I moved my current custom ringtones and notifications to /system/media/audio and deleted all other ringtones/notifications/alarms from the internal and external SD cards just to check. Did a reboot, changed the rintone and notification to my custom ones and charged the phone over night ... this morning I unplugged it from loader and checked my audio settings and:
ringtone: unknown ringtone (dammit!)
notification: Moonbeam (bummer! not my selected custom notification)
This is driving me crazy.
I´m thinking about going to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache - as this is recommended often in the custom Rom section AFTER installing a new rom to avoid troubles - only question is: will this result in any data or app loss?
EDIT: Ok I think I found the culprit: i seems my volume sceduler "Volume Ace" caused the change of ringtone and notify every time it switched to a different audio profile. Deinstalled it and all seems fine....

CM9 Ringtone Problem

I have a strange problem regarding CM9. Currently am on hephappy's TinyStream flashed over TinyLight. Everything seems to be working well.
However, when I attempt a clean flash (wiped EVERYTHING) to TinyStream my problems begin. I can restore all my contacts with TB and set a default ringtone thru settings but can NEVER set ANY custom ringtone for my wife, son, and various friends that had custom ringtones set in previous ROMs (CM7 and some ICS as well). In fact, when trying to set the custom ringtone none of the options (including default) are highlighted/selected. When I do select a ringtone it never saves it. When said person calls I then get no ring-tone at all, and only know there is a call because the phone is vibrating. Attempting to reset the ringtone results in the same uselessness. I also experienced this with Arjen's Alpha 3last night. What could I be dong wrong?
I had no problem setting custom ringtones in any CN7 ROMs, Lupo's ICS build or TinyLight. My workaround has been to flash TinyStream over TinyLight. The custom ringtones I want are set fot various contacts BUT NOW THOSE CAN"T BE CHANGED EITHER. That;s OK for now but at some point I'll want to change them and, presently, I can't.
Any insight is appreciated,
M.
Have you tried using Ringo? Or any other ringtone selection application...I would attempt a clean wipe on everything

Custom ringtone not working

I have a P769 running AntonX's CM11 build. Since the last time I flashed ~4-5 weeks ago I haven't been able to set a custom ringtone. I tried setting it with ES File Explorer and it shows up as 'None' in the sounds sub-menu. I tried renaming one of my custom ringtones to match a stock one and it just plays the hangouts video call sound.
Something that might be related to this is that my music does not show up since I flashed on Google Play Music.
I found this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...ing-on-device-file-explorer-in-android-4-4-2/
It describes what I'm experiencing. I tried flashing AntonX's latest build (4.4.4) and the problem still persists.I really want my custom ringtone and notifications to work. I tried searching this sub-forum for something related and I couldn't find anything. I'd appreciate any help.
Also, I can't post the problem in AntonX's CM11 thread because I have less than 10 posts. And I might try Nameless ROM because I've heard good things about it.
Thanks.
