[Q] Dual boot possible - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have never tried dual booting any of my phones before but now seems as a good of time as any.
Has anyone done this with the note 2 and if so what software/guide did you use?

I know on my old Motorola Bionic you could do this using Safestrap instead of Bootstrap for a recovery, but there isn't such a thing as far as I know of for the GNII. At least not yet.

What about boot manager? I never used it but I thought it could be used on any unlocked devices.

It says that it supports Samsung phones. But the Note 2 isn't "Officially supported". You could give it a try. Worst comes to worst I'd assume an ODIN to complete stock would get you back on your feet.

no. i cant get into recovery nor into download mode. the screen shows nothing at all and the phone doesnt vibrate. i did the tmobile chat and she said they might need to exchange it but would take 7-10 business days. i didnt tell her it was rooted tho. i was hoping the usb jig would unbrick it. i have an old usb from my other phone. i already cut it and stripped it but i need a 300k resistor and radioshack doesnt open in 1 more hour.
i just checked device manager and if i plug in my device it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD with a yellow exclamation.
update: i installed some drivers i found online and it now shows as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (com7) in device manager but odin wont recognize it still
so after doing the live chat with samsung and they wanted me to send them my phone to check it out and i had to wait 6-10 business days i went to my local tmobile store the guy tried to turn it on tried charging it and said to go back on wednesday because thats when they get them. so i am stuck with a loner phone.
That's a bummer...just curious...what ROM were you trying to flash?

So how did u brick it?
worst case, take it back to tmobile tell them that it got really hot and turned off and wont power up. they wont check anything. just get a new one. and DONT FLASH ANYTHING UNTIL YOU READ UP ON IT! we are all using the Rooted stock rom. just chill out for now... ROMS WILL COME. this is the hottest phone on the market...
I thought Samsung phones were unbrickable. Is this sort of thing common or was it a bad unit?

You are wrong in this case because he hard bricked it, which is why he only sees the QHUSB_DLOAD mode.
That requires special software in order to flash, and we don't get access to it.

yea i went yesterday and just said it wont turn on. he tried it and plugged it into the power outlet and nothing. he just said they dont get their shipments until wednesday(tomorrow) so i guess they will exchange it. good thing it was on warranty still. im guessing samsung wont be able to tell it was rooted since they cant access it and they will just reflash it and sell it as refurbished or something right?

An unbrickable phone does not exist. The closest to unbrickable as you can get is an iPhone. But it can be bricked if you try hard enough I'm sure. Strapping an m80 to my iPhone seemed to do the trick as well

unbrickable phones do exist, almost all samsung galaxy phones are capable of getting the "unbrickable mod" which is a hardware modification that enables the phone to be re-flashed without working bootloaders. but unbrickable out of the box, no.

[Request]Need Help for Device Return

Hello everyone. I jumped the gun and rooted/unlocked the BL and am running the stock Deoxed rom that is located in the dev section. But now I need to return the phone as the service around here isnt great. Since I am in a tight window I am unsure what to do since there is no RUU available and no Nandroids of stock AT&T.
Any suggestions would be helpful!
I would just do the return I don't think they would really check the boot loader.
As long as you have a stock rom on there you should be in the clear. I've returned unlocked phones before and the AT&T rep never did more than reboot the phone.

+1, I've returned unlocked phones also without any trouble.
Give it a try, you might get lucky and they won't notice..
Anyone reading this can avoid this by always doing a nandroid before installing a custom ROM..
They won't notice. When I exchanged my note 2.it even had a different boot animation than the stock one and he still exchanged it. They really don't check.

Yup.
Be careful...I exchanged my Rooted Stock ATT HTC One and the rep got ready to restore the phone to factory settings. However, I told him I'd do it instead. Good thing I did because it went into TWRP to restore the phone..than there was also a white screen with a message at the bottom of the screen about custom recovery...I didn't read the entire message because the phone re-booted. But if the Rep would've wiped the phone, he would have seen all this...
So my best advice is to wipe the phone yourself...
I'm a rep at ATT and we don't hardly check an if it is it doesnt matter any way we still return it.

[Q] Will Verizon know I rooted?

My S4 suddenly stopped charging the other day, and my immediate response was to unroot and take it to Verizon to see what is up. I never installed a custom rom, but had TWRP recovery installed. I used the No Wipe Stock unrooted image in Odin to put my phone back and Verizon had me to a factory reset. Apparently that is necessary before doing a warranty claim. Now, the guy at the store said that if it was previously rooted, or currently rooted they would reject it and I would be on the hook for several hundred dollars. Is there anyway they can tell that I did root it before?
Will they know you rooted? Not necessarily. However, I'd be surprised if the S4 didn't have a flash counter. Assuming it does, they'd know (at minimum) that *something* was flashed to your phone and how many times something was flashed.

Nope, doesnt say custom. And the device status says official. I am pretty skeptical they will see anything, and the only things I flashed through ODIN were the MD2 and MDK kernels. I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered.
I think you'll be okay. Most likely what they'll do is turn it on to see whether or not it says custom, plug it in to see if it charges or not, ten hand you a brand new device,

What's the outlook? Any updates on whether or not it will happen? I just got a 32gb s4 from big red, with me7 naturally, and am now strongly considering leaving for T Mobile even though getting a 32gb for them sounds like a pain.
I just went to 5 different retailers hunting for an MD phone and no one has one to my dismay. Maybe I should just settle for the HTC One if both of my options are locked devices.

Have there been any phones that have came out thus far that haven't been able to be rooted? Seems like people easily got around every attempt to lock down android thus far so my hopes are high for this. However it does seem like a long time has passed with quite the sum of money at hand.

err ya my bad I meant bootloader/recovery cracked. I know they had to safestrap the razr line but I think eventually they even cracked that. And even so anything to install custom roms would be great even if safestrap type solutions are kind of annoying to use.
I hope they get a recovery for us soon. I'm getting bord with this phone.

I am definitely ready for a new ROM too. Touchwhiz is depressing haha. I'm definitely surprised there isn't more people trying to unlock the bootloader with such a big bounty on the table.
My new replacement S4 came with MDK. If I unlock the bootloader before upgrading to ME7, does ME7 re-lock it? I'm putting off the upgrade notice until I know for sure.

You cant actually unlock the bootloader, there is just a workaround for recovery on mdk so if you update then you lose recovery. I think there is a stock rom in development that leaves out yhe bootloader and is rooted...

No reason to try something that risky. Root, use Loki to bypass the locked bootloader, and flash something new. There's quite a few ME7-based ROMs that you can use to get all the benefits of the upgrade without losing control of the phone.

Any custom recovery for the vz V10 yet?

Hello folks, i've been rooted for a while now and i was wondering if there is any custom recovery for the verizon v10 yet? The reason is because i messed up my google apps and i need to flash them to make the market work again. Any input would be appreciated.
As of right now no, we need the bootloader unlocked first and thats gonna be a minute. So just do a flash back to stock. Theres also a option where it won't wipe your data, instead of upgrade in the programs options just select refurbished instead ( I think, you'll have to look it up).

Kind of have to agree. There is just is not a following for this phone.
I have really been considering selling this phone and getting a Moto X Pure.
Does anyone have connection with team twrp? Or the developers that usually work an help with rooted phone's recoveries?
I do, and it won't happen without a bootloader unlock.

Having used it now for a time, I really wish I went with the smaller moto x pure, I could have gotten it completely customized, and root, and roms... one handed use with this phone sucks even with the tools provided.

I'm pretty decent at fixing the G4 bootloop. It's caused by the NAND coming away from the board. Have to reflow it and pray it isn't to far gone. Sometimes it works forever sometimes just Kong enough to get data from. Sad to hear that the V10 is displaying the same issue. Haven't seen any at my shop yet but then again have only seen 3 or 4 V10s.

I had to warrenty my v10 due to random issues i.e. icons would be grey blocks, apps would act as if they'd been wiped. Tried doing a recovery restore from my pc and it still did it. Literally the phone was loosing it's memory.
Well I just sold my v10 so be looking for that bootloader to be unlocked soon.
So many know vulnerabilities to try, so little time... HAHA if on 5.1.1 it's possible
