Very simple little zip attached to just block ads on your HTC DNA in recovery. Just flash in recovery and enjoy your adless DNA
Awesome. Very useful since Adblock won't work.
I use adfree and it works. It just doesn't stick after reboots.

I really appreciate all of the flashable zips made for us. What I did, however, is use *insert your favorite ad blocker* to update the hosts file. Then, before rebooting the phone I made a copy of that file. Using AromaFM in recovery I replaced the hosts file with the copy I made. Reboot and good to go. Downside, of course, is that you can muck something up. Upside is that you can more quickly change your host file without waiting for some kind soul to zip up a change for us.

There is that! +1
If not going to that kernel... whatever ad blocker you use...update the hosts file...pull it using ADB with phone on...reboot to recovery...mount system...push hosts..adb shell use chmod 755 reboot and done! I would do this everytime AdAway told me there was an updated hosts file.
Gets you comfortable with ADB commands, too, which is never a bad thing!
+1 to that for sure running it now myself
Adaway works normally now with the new Cubed kernel.
No more cubed kernel?
Am I correct to assume that this is the same as this:

If so, my concerns posted in that thread are still outstanding. My post:
Has anybody else tried this? I'm kinda hesitant. What if it breaks some sites/apps and I need to temporarily disable it? I haven't had much luck with ad free or ad away or even abp on my rooted DNA..
Edit: Of course it's the same; it's posted by the same person lol

All of the current custom roms out there have this included. You shouldn't be worried. I've never had an instance where it breaks anything.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
So basically this eliminates the need for a third party app such as adfree/adaway? And what if there needs to be an update applied for the hosts? **** out of luck until someone decides to release an updated zip?

Okay, I just tried to flash this but it gave me an MD5 error and said to uncheck the "force MD5 check"... so I did and then it worked. Is that normal?
Flash DSB's stock writeable kernel and then install Adaway. That way you can have ad blocking and you can turn it off if it blocks a website you want to go to.
The other benefit of using a third party app to do this is that it updates the block list on a daily basis as new ad websites are found.
This is strange.. As soon as I booted back up I got an error that Shazam couldn't be updated. I went to the play store and it gave me this error: RPC:S-5:AEC-0.. I followed the instructions in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWSxPXgnWRY
It seems to have been fixed now. When I rebooted again after force stopping the google services framework and clearing the data, Shazam automatically updated. Anyone else have this happen to them?

I'm kinda circumspect about installing a new kernal cuz that will just open up new variables for something to go wrong. I wanna keep my DNA as stable as I can for as long as I can.
The stock writeable kernel is stable, plus any other apps that require writing to the system (most apps that require root) will work properly.

If it's so stable then why have there been numerous updates to it?
I don't wanna have to keep up with random updates released for it either and always having to flash a new kernal. I'll just stick with this blockads zip for now since it seems to have worked well. I might re-visit it in the future if it's not working for me anymore.
Thanks for your help though.
DSB has two kernels:
1. Stock writeable with absolutely no problems;
2. Modified with overclock and sweep to wake, this is the one with a lot of updates.

Are you not talking about the cubed kernel?
Using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011243
Only his cubed one comes up, with an extensive change log. The first link in the list of kernels is dead so I'm not sure if that is the one you are referring to.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064066
There's one guy who has a "problem" because he didn't flash things correctly but he is the only one. I've used it and so have many others and no one has a problem. In fact developers are starting to package this kernel in their roms now.
My HTC One is rooted and I have Adaway and Adfree installed. I generally install both on all of my devices and run them side-by-side, even though it might be redundant/overkill.
On my One, ads will spontaneously stop being blocked. I'll see them in apps all of a sudden or somewhere else. When I open Adaway and tap the update button, the One reboots without prompt. When it comes back up, I'm able to update Adaway and ads are blocked again.Rinse and repeat a few days later. Ad blocking works for a while, then this happens all over again.
I haven't tried removing Adaway yet, but it seems to be the cause of the problem. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What are you using to block ads on your One?
Yea, I'd say big overkill on the adblocking. I just use Adaway, it works perfect for me.
I would go to both programs and set things as default, uninstall both programs, clear cache and wipe dalvik. Install only one program, update from there and see how things go from there.

I could accept the fact that using both Adfree and Adaway together was the issue if I didn't have the same exact setup on my Nexus 10, Galaxy S4, Note 2, and Optimus G Pro with no issues whatsoever. I'm only having this issue on the HTC One and the fact that it reboots the phone when I launch Adaway makes me think it has something to do with that program.
I will try removing Adfree and see what happens.
Phone reboots because the stock kernel write protects the system partition and when the app attempts to remount it RW it blows up. There are kernel mods and ROMs that can bypass the write protection.
I explained how to make AdAway work without kernel mod in this thread (you need custom recovery however). Symlinking the hosts file to another partition is the suggestion from AdAway help section

So Adaway is the issue? What about Adfree? Does it work normally? ABP?

No, they all use the hosts file method to block advertiser hosts. This file is located in the write protected /system partition (at least for S-On devices) and changes are lost after reboot. The symlink method (linking to a writable partition) may also work with Adfree or ABP, however what definitely works is flashing the modified hosts file via recovery. Both methods listed here
Why does HTC have to be so much more difficult than everyone else? First, there's S-Off, something you don't need on Samsung, LG, etc devices, and now this? Love my One, but I hate having to do a workaround for something that works so easily on all of my other devices.

Hello All,
If you are running a sense rom and having problems with google apps, YouTube, Maps etc with the google play service not installing. Well here is a fix for that.
How to Install?
1.) Download update.zip and place on root of SDCard
2.) Reboot into recovery
3.) flash update.zip
4.) Wipe both caches
5.) reboot
6.) update google apps, and install Play services
Hopefully this helps anyone having problems with this. I have tested this on vigor360, but i don't see what it wouldnt work on other sense roms.

Yeah...its just replacing the package.xml file in the /data/system directory. The reason people are having problems is the gms or Google Play Services didn't have permission in that file or more simple put all the gms lines are missing from the file So when you went to install it. It checks the file and because the gms stuff isn't there it denies it or you get that shared id error. All this file does is add the gms lines needed for Google services nothing else is changed or modded.

Can you give more information...what ROM are you running, what carrier, are you running any mods or scripts, anything that might give a clue as to why this change might cause your symptoms. I'm interested in reloading some of the older ROMs on a couple spare Rezounds I have (just for the hell of it really) so I'm interested in your experience but I need more information.

Haha, I read your post before the post above it and wondered what about my post made you so "tired of the bull." I'm on sun_dreams ICS 4.04 Sense4+ ROM. Yup that's what needs to happen. The thing is they need to go in a certain area within the file so I'm doing a little testing to make sure it doesn't screw up. Theres one other thing I'm gonna try is using the permissions folder and creating a separate file and add it to that directory instead of the package.xml

Hey guys!
I have been using Omni ROM for a while. And yes, its a pretty stable KitKat ROM! Almost everything works fine without any issue. But the thing that bugged me was root. There wasn't root permission in the the ROM. So no link2sd and no other script works for expanding storage.
So basically, the only major problem in the ROM was ROOT.
So I worked it out and present before you an easy method.
Prerequisites:
Omni ROM
Root flashable zip
Method:
Download the required packages
Install Omni ROM (Refer installation from this)
Reboot
Now go back to recovery and flash root.zip
Reboot
Enjoy
NOTE:
You need to have atleast 3mb in /system
This zip is only for ARM based devices and won't work with x86 based devices
P.S. Personally this is the best ROM to use as daily driver

Looks very much like a normal superuser or superSU install.
Very good that will work on other devices as well. I mean, ours would not have all the google apps on system. No room for one of them
The su binary is much smaller than cm-11's.
Comment, should probably go on xbin, be symlinked to bin.
Normally, superuser.apk is installed as a user app and would be updated as such from play. But may try it this way!
Great work.

They should NOT be on system/app, especially on our phones. Install from Play as user apps, let link2sd symlink them.
Anyway, flash worked like a charm! Neatly got rid of CWM's superuser, installed superSU which I will leave as a system app for now.
Note that it behaves like what I tried, spawns multiple instances of su and daemonsu (should daemonsu be symlinked to su--why have two copies?).
Link2sd played immediately. Tasker took some time. Xposed almost did not make it. Finally, after a blank screen freeze, reboot, a few attempts, got the dialog! Talking a good ten minutes or aggrivation. What is unique about how this asks for root?

MUST trim the ROM. Omni is no different here, maybe even bigger.
The superSU installation wil temporarily move some stuff to make room for the root install, then move it back. However, none of that stuff belongs on system. There is not enough room for even one of those gapps. GAPPSLight is trivial and should not fill you up. In other words, trim the ROM first.

First thing I tried (with my simple daemon start method). Never came up. But up and running now, all's well that ends well.
Question: SuperSU offers to make a backup script first time the UI is exercised. Promises to survive further flashes. Does this indeed work (and ... how)?
I will copy files and edit a version of the setup script from this zip and have them available on my sdcard just in case

Smell a rat! Trim that ROM first.
Omni has it own file manager called "Documents." The CMFileManage can be installed as a user app.
BUGs on Omni -- I still am using a daily driver, though:
1. Clock FC's. Widgets appear fine (I use Chronus) but no alarms, stopwatch, wordclocks, etc.
2. GPS apparently not functioning, though location services seem to work. Some apps dependent on GPS FC.
3. Long widget, background process startup times but much better than cm-11
4. About 10 meg worth of apps symlinked by link2sd will be un-symlinked (more probably dereferenced) on start up. Easily cleaned up every few starts. Make sure to recreate link2sd build scripts freshly, reboot after new flash or internal storage mishaps worse than this.
5. Will usually get a wait message on system on startup. Everything works anyway, just open home screen and dismiss.
Those dl builds are genuine "nightlies," scheduled, regardless of whether or not any changes made that will be noticed.

For time being, to install any apk, get a file manager. If you cant, then from Documents, navigate to the apk and hold on it. It will be highlighted. Now copy it and from documents' side panel (swipe from left) go to Downloads and paste it there. Now go to Downloads from app drawer and install from there.

Xposed Xhalo will work in cm-11 but not in omni! Omni takes the window's flag for ... its own multiwindow. So ... where is that?
Xposed multiwindow (its own UI) might work in omni or alongside halo or xhalo ... uses a different flag to avoid the conflict.
In any event, Xposed might be the best way to get these things.

Can you please offer me the binary file? Or give me an URL?
A few days ago, there was an update from zhuhang for the already released Viper4Android 2.5.0.5. It addresses the issues that a lot of people are having with getting V4A working under Nougat. I tested it with my ROM, and the driver installed without error. So then I decided to make a flashable zip that would preinstall the driver and save you a few minutes plus a reboot. Other than possibly needing to grant Storage permissions in Settings, this is a quick flash and go.
The zip that should work on any LG-based ROM, and possibly on AOSP-based as well. Just download, flash in TWRP, and reboot. You may need to grant Storage permissions in Settings.

I [obviously] didn't create V4A, but if you include my zip in your ROM, please give a mention and link back to this thread.
First
Thanks for this.. I'm sure many will get use out of it..!
Not sure if I did something wrong or not - but I can't get it to work.
I'm on DevDigital's ls997 ver 6.5 magisk phh.
Flashed in twrp. Granted root permision.
go to SuperSU / un-check Mount_name spaces separately / under the settings. turn on adb debugging.
Inscribed via LG v20 (iOS 11.1.0 Aplha)

You shouldn't have been promoted to grant root access. V4A only needs root to install the driver, which is preinstalled.
If you're being prompted to install a driver, the ROM likely uses a different conf file to control audio.

He built and ported to magisk recently. Has a module you need to install then install Swansong
I haven't played with it yet. I like the new app but dont see a diffence in drivers from 2.5.0.4 to 2.5.0.5
Magisk has a compatible module in his downloads via the app that works with my rom (2.5.0.4)
I install that via magisk manager then i pulled the latest viper4arise.apk and installed instead of the older ui viperfx apk that is linked on the downloads page inside magisk manager.
Driver installs correctly for many others as well. You may need to dirtyflash my rom and start over. Magisk manager also received a update yesterday via playstore. The process on phh or magisksu as its now called is different now as its "systemless" vs modifying the actual system files.
If you dont want to go 5through the hassel of above. Just go to developer settings inside of the viper apps settings and turn off selinux and recheck driver status. Im 99% sure it works this way but ive said it before, i wont push the rom this route as i dont perfer it to be off by defualt.
Hope this helps
Got it all worked out thanks to the rom creator above. Team DevDigitel.
Thank You
Thank you for your work on this flashable zip it's much appreciated, I just have a couple of questions though for anyone who might know..
I'm still running the original stock rom (rooted with TWRP) on my LG V20 and a while back I followed the directions from another thread to install V4A, and I was able to get it to work (even through bluetooth) but it's kind of wonky and just hit or miss so I'd really like to try this one out instead.
I'm assuming I should uninstall the version of V4A I have right now but is there anything else that I need to do (besides a nand backup) before flashing this one? Also one of the steps to install the V4A I have right now was deleting a system file (I'll have to go look to be sure but I believe it was something like mixer_paths.xml), so I just thought I'd check to see if that will somehow effect this version or if I possibly need to put the original file back where it was before flashing this one?
I apologize if these are stupid questions but I just thought play it safe and check first before giving this a shot, because even though the version I have is kind of wonky it still works through bluetooth which from what I've read is something that a lot of people haven't been able to get working, and since I use it so much I'm just afraid to even risk losing it. Anyway I'll definitely create a backup before doing anything but any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You don't need to delete any files for this zip. You're supposed to delete /system/etc/audioeffects.conf, but I've done that with the script.
As I use this more, Bluetooth still occasionally doesn't process after pausing for an extended period, like getting out of the car for more than 5 minutes, but all you need to do for it to kick back on is exit V4A from the menu, then open it up again. It'll immediately start processing again.
If you have an unmodified system backup to restore, that will help ensure it works OK, but it may not be needed.

Thank you for the quick response and for the info and I have no clue why I had mixer_paths on the brain but yeah audioeffects.conf is the file I had to delete while installing the version I have, and as far as what you said about the bluetooth acting up it sounds pretty similar to the wonkyness that I was describing with the version I currently have.
One weird thing that I've noticed with mine (and I don't have the slightest idea how or why it's doing it) is when I'm listening to music through my bluetooth headset, none of the settings under the "Bluetooth" section in V4A have any effect on the sound whatsoever.. but what's weird is that all of the settings under the "Headphones" section do (so it's basically like the section names were swapped somehow)?!
I know for sure that I don't have anything plugged into the jack and the headset I'm using is definitely bluetooth (because it's pretty easy to tell lol), so I have no clue why the settings under headphones would work just fine while the ones under bluetooth don't do it anything at all?
Anyway thank you again for the info I'll give it a shot as soon as I have time and let ya know how it went, and unfortunately the only thing I didn't backup was my unmodified system (it didn't even cross my mind until after I was done rooting) but hopefully it'll still be ok. Thanks again!

You can definitely control BT devices from the BT tab on this one. And I've found with more testing that before I get in my car, switch to V4A and exit it, then open it again as soon as Play Music connects. Works every time.
I would just like to say thank you!!
I installed this .zip on my T-mo variant over the previous V4A install via dirty flash. It resolved my Bluetooth processing issues on the stock V20 ROM. I've been working on this the past few days. VERY happy it now works in my car like my last phone did!
Now, once I get the nerve to flash over the new modem and bootloader via TWRP to get up to 20j, I'm highly inclined to check out the new ROM by NATF.
Cheers!

Thank you.
The new modem and other firmware is not a strict requirement for ROMs built on 10j. You just need to make sure TWRP is on the latest release.

Excellent! I'm glad it works for you. The changes made should work on multiple devices, I just couldn't test it myself.
Can we flash this if we have dolby? Or should I uninstall dolby 1st?

Just wanted to say thanks for this. It worked great right from the get go. If anybody is wondering its running on JDCTeam AOSP 7.1.2 on a beat up old S4.
