Hi All,
Just want to confirm whether Xperia Tablet can be charged via USB cable connected to PC/laptop USB port?
It indicates in the notification drawer that you must connect the power adapter to charge, but it most certainly does charge, albeit very slowly.

I see. Thanks for the reply.

I ran a search but did not find anything related to my question. I have the CM7 rom on my touchpad and was wanting to know if you have the usb cable plugged in to the computer is the touchpad suppose to charge? I also have a iPad and I know it will not charge via the USB on a computer but did not know if the Touchpad was the same.
Thanks,

No, currently the CM7 ROM on the TouchPad can't be charged with the computer. I'm pretty sure it can in webOS, but it's a very slow charge. You just have to charge it with the wall charger.
It does charge at a very slow rate (because usb provides 500mA or less). Been plugged in for 20 mins and the battery % has been the same. (not gone down)
I'm using a.3.5, could charge very slowly via USB-laptop, got to turn off WiFi, BT etc and idle TouchPad. Managed to top up to 100%.

It will charge SLOWLY (via USB) if the screen is off.
When the screen is on, the Touchpad uses more than 500mA,
so it cannot charge the battery (via USB) with the screen on.
I installed XRON V2.5 and left connected to desktop. In couple of hours the charge increased from90% to 100% but the indicator would not show as charging as it used to show when it is connected to AC charger.
From what I read in the manual, USB charging should work for the tablet, but not the dock? When I have USB plugged in (to either a PC or an ipad charger) there is no indication of charging (but USB connected shows in system Panel)
Is this normal?
That's normal for the original Transformer and does agree with the Prime manual the way I interpret it.
Are you trying a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port? It may charge from a USB 3.0 port, which is what the charger's USB port is. I've never tried charging from a USB 3.0 port, in spite of actually having a new PC here with one.
My charging setup is to have the ASUS charger plugged in to a power strip, I then have a six foot USB 3.0 cable extension, then the standard short ASUS USB 3.0 to 40-pin tablet cable. This works great.
Bye.

mine will not charge from just USB either I have to use the power brick that came with it.
ok, I hadn't realised the port was usb3. Makes sense, even if it is a little annoying to have to always have the charger (like if I want to charge in the car)
Are there any car chargers that would work with the Prime?

Quite simply, yes. Anything with a micro usb end connected to a power output will charge it.
Yes, regardless of the voltage at the outlet the computer is plugged into ALL USB ports run at 5 Volt (that is a USB STANDARD) so you can plug into the USB port and charge, the only reason it might not charge in a USB port is if the computer is REALLY old (pre USB 2.0) as the amperage of USB 1.1 is to low to be able to charge the player.
On a side note my 4.0 seems to last longer between charges when charged with the standard charger vs. charging thru the USB of the computer.
and if charge with the travel adapter, all i'll need is the cord that transports from american to moroccan ? or a transformer current too ?
(We have 220V)

yes, just looked at my charger and it will accept between 100 and 240 volts, so you just need the wall plug adapter.
yes its fine ive tried myself no problem
Yes you can , but it take long time .
Vs985 on CM12. When I plug my phone with the LG's native USB into my Honda - it does not seem to charge. It only changes to show a battery indicator amount of charge. Even with charge only selected in the usb settings. If I plug my phone into my laptop it shows a lightning bolt in the battery icon and seems to charge? Is there some kind of a device I can plug into the usb or something I can do on the phone to enable usb charging?
If it were me, I'd try it on a stock LG ROM to determine where the problem lies.

When plugged into your laptop, or desktop for that matter, your phone WILL NOT charge at the same speed as it would when plugged into a wall charger for the express reason that the outlet will provide a higher voltage, one capable of charging the phone, while the laptop doesn't provide as large a voltage through it's USB port because many USB operated devices for a computer require a much lower voltage to operate properly. As for the Honda charging, I believe it would be the same deal, but I'm not an expert on vehicles so I'm not positive.

I hope you don't taste this the wrong way, but to some like me, it's a pet peace. ? The voltage is the same, the amperage is different.
I believe computer USB 2.0 and 1.x ports are normally limited to 500mA (half an amp). Some PC's USB drivers even let you monitor how much amperage each USB port is drawing when it's bring used.
USB 3.0 might be higher. I'd have to read again to be sure, but the additional amperage USB 3.0 might supply shouldn't require a USB 3.0 cable to take advantage of it.
Some implementations of USB in some PCs supply higher, and presumably some lower amperages than the known standard.

So, it started while I was charging my phone in my car and all good. I had to remove the USB cable from the charger and put it back in, but it never worked again. At first I thought it was the charger or the cable but as soon as I got back home I realized it was not.
When the phone is switched off, the red LED turns on when i connect it to the charger but it does not charge. Also the blue LED turns on when connected to USB cable while pressing the up volume key. can not detect it on PC when it is fully on however.
I tried another battery but it didn't charge also. Got a magnetic cable and tried to charge it and then it worked!!
Flashed a new rom but still not working.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Did you plug-in the magnetic cable upside-down by a mistake?

No, the first time to charge with magnetic cable was after i couldn't charge with usb.

This was not expected. This is a typical issue if you plug-in the magnetic cable upside-down.
Anyway it seems your phone has a hardware issue: To be more specific the mainboard has one faulty diode - the whole mainboard has to be replaced.
