Volume rocker - HTC Droid DNA

I love this phone: but the one and only killer using this device is learning how to touch it without changing the volume.
The phone almost cannot be handled in any way without the volume being changed.
Plug in a set of ear buds..... launch a radio app station...... then switch the phone from your right hand to your left hand...... and then try to put the phone into your inside jacket vest pocket with your right hand.....without going anywhere near the volume rocker?
If you're David Copperfield ....no problem.
Me?
I need to handle this DNA like a surgical instrument so as not to go anywhere near that damn volume rocker.
I must be the only one?

Getting one of those cases with create a cutout around the volume buttons is the answer. Unfortunate but yeah, these flush volume rocket buttons can be pain in the @$$.
I got this one before I ordered the phone : http://www.ebay.com/itm/130830868724
It arrived 1 day after I got the phone and now I dont accidentally push the volume buttons any more.

I guess that is (sadly) the only real answer.
I just love the look of the DNA as is.
Hate to hide that cool look.
But you're right and deserve a thanks for that.

I had this problem with the Rezound and ended up using Volume Locker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hourdb.volumelocker

[Q] Volume keeps turning itself up

When ever I have the phone on the volume will keep turning up stopping me from doing anything on the phone. I tried restarting it and it has been fine for about 4 months and not covered by warranty since bought from someone has anyone else seen this problem.
If so how could I sort it out. It has had a custom rom and hspl from when I bought it meaning it was fine when he had it as well but now the phone just won't stop turning the volume up.
Thanks if you can help!
I wouldn't know, but it sounds to me your 'volume-up' button 'hangs'.

This is the weird thing the rock switch is fine. Guess may just have to take it in for repair or sell it and get the HD7
Loved this phone
"My stuff doesnt work, ah well too bad i'll just send it on ebay"
I hope ur being 100% transparent and warning potential buyers...
I much prefer the old style of presentation of the HD2 than HD7, plus i love physical buttons So will never switch my HD2 for HD7, even if it was possible to do so for free
The volume buttons may be misaligned/shorted by some conductive residue. If you're up to it, open us your phone and peel out the white portion above the volume buttons, cleaning the contacts with alcohol and realigning the metal buttons if necessary. Just be careful not to over-bend the flexible ribbon cable that attaches the volume buttons to the mainboard. This should solve your problem.

I hate the capacative buttons and HD2 for me was awesome but I just can not be bothered it opening it or getting it repaired. I mean everything else is in great condition just I think some water or something got between the rocker.
Damn snow
same problem with the volumn keep turning up
i'm having the same problem like yours. also i have the HD2 for a couple years . it' just starts to act up now. it's very frustrating. did anyone fix this problem?

[Q] Clicky Home button - Faulty?

Hi guys,
I have Clicky Home button - is it faulty?
By clickly I mean, it makes a unnatural sound when pressed, almost as if it sticking. The noise is noisy and not silent
The reason I have noticed this is because my brother has just had his delivered and its perfect on his. Do I have a faulty phone?
Your click is faulty. Nothing more I think it'd go away after pressing the button frequently.

I've had the phone for around 3 months, I doubt it will go away
Did you find solution? Could you replace your phone?
Hope you did!
Had my phone since they 1st came out and dont have any issues with the home button.
Has not changed at all. No loosening or strange clicking. I rarely use the power button but instead use the home button to turn on so it gets a good workout.

Mine is not like is loose, but is not as "firm" as the volumen rocker and the power buttom.
How about yours? Can you "shake" you finger over the Home and the button moves?
I'd say my home button is as snug a fit as the power and volume buttons but more sensitive to being pressed.

Is their a reason for the volume button?

I mean honestly why couldn't they have left the volume button off and put another port or speaker or something! Honestly they could have integrated the volume nicely into their quick settings bar!
Or better yet made the a piece of the bezel with capacitive volume buttons...
I think they volume buttons where a waste of time on asus's part!
I know they are nice to have but common be different!
Also does this have a orientation lock switch?
A side note I really live ICS's spell check and copy and paste its so much nicer than gingerbread! Except its not the same through out like Gmail for example is different the the browser which bugs me! Lol

Come on now SMH. Of course it's needed. It don't need another speaker grill as most that actually have device in possession said the sound is great. .

Still why not have it be on screen?
You don't turn the volume up and down while the device is off lol

Because that is just normal for an tablet/phone? Why do you even care?

Let's hope it is better than your PC36100
I was disappointed at first about the single speaker, however I've remedied this with some Logitech bluetooth speakers. The lack of a volume button is one of my only gripes with my Kindle Fire, so yes I think it is absolutely necessary to have a button.
I'd be willing to bet, that if they added an extra speaker, and left off the volume control, that I'd be reading a thread titled "Is there a reason for the extra speaker"... blah blah blah they could have put a volume button in its place, and other nonsense.
because otherwise every single app would need to add some way of adjusting volume in the app?
waste of time and space? I doubt having a volume rocker wastes much of either.
Also, volume rocker needed to boot into that fast boot mode or whatever. If device is soft bricked, it needs hardware button combination of volume and power to bring it into that mode to fix the issue or hard reset to take back to factory defaults/rom.

No that could be software implementation!
You have that dock bar always showing! Why not put a button on that silly!

what dock bar? When you are playing shadowgun on your prime you expect there to be a dock bar so you can adjust the volume? It doesn't work like that and would look really bad if it did
Your point is interesting. Amazon chose not to put hardware volume on the Kindle Fire and that is one of the points that they are getting skewered on. So I am guessing that the software only volume control is in the minority. At least on Android devices.

ahhh I see what you mean I thought you were talking about having capacitive buttons you mentioned as a possibility.
But either way, its a solution for a non existent problem.

Still I do not see why android needs any physical buttons...
Everything would looks so nice without them!
I see the need like you said to get to the restore and such as I use that often! All I see android needing is 1 power button but even that could be just like slide over like the back of the PS Vita!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I don't use the volume button much, I wish there would be an orientation lock which I use much more frequently than volume adjustment.
Also I don't quite like the HC/ICS way of copy/paste, you have to move far away from the text you just selected to press the copy button. I think it look cool but not intuitive.
I used to think the volume button wasn't important on a tablet, then I got shot in the knee with an arrow.

I think the volume rocker is needed. I find it very inconvenient if one needs to click the menu and adjust the volume every single time. I think its one of the reason why there are short cuts on you laptops that allows you to adjust the volume. For example if you are playing a first play shooter game and you want to adjust the volume, having to go into menu, change the volume will very likely get you killed.
And also, I think the reason Asus choose the single speaker instead two speaker is due to the size of the speaker. Instead of using two smaller mediocre speaker they chose to include one really good speaker which is bigger in size. Simply removing the volume rocker there wouldn't be enough space to add that second speaker. And also there's problem with the cost.

Crappy Power Button

Is it just me or is the power button too flush to find and and too soft to press. I believe I will eventually get accustomed to its position which is a bit lower than on the GS2, but the rounded bezel and flushness seem to make it a bit hard to press sometimes. The volume rocker seems more click for some reason.

It's just you, you'll adjust to it eventually.
I had pretty much the same issue. Maybe a little worse. My power button had no "click" whatsoever. It would often get stuck in when I pressed it to shut the screen off and would then cause my phone to reboot over and over until I noticed.
This happened way more often than I would expect from a £500 phone, so I called Vodafone and explained the issue. They sent a person to deliver a brand new phone the next day and the power button on this one is much, much better. So if you think you could swing it as faulty hardware, which mine clearly was, then I'd recommend getting it replaced.
Is your power button much flusher than the volume rocker? Mine seems so.

I think it's just you.... ive played with over a dozen S3s and all the volume buttons are clickier than the power buttons.
I am having an issue with my top volume button, it seems a bit sticky.
My power mutton is crap also, no click at all. I have samsung's slim case ant it's very hard to press power button. I bought that phone only 4 days ago, so i don't want to send it to repair service, it takes usually about 2-4 weeks

You shouldn't need to send it away for warranty repair, the button seems faulty, I would get it replaced. I have similar issues with mine, the power button is spongy and creaks. I will receive a door to door replacement today. Don't sell yourself short mate
yh its too flush, some times i have to double check that if its working and ive pressed it. but i got used to it
my volume up button is very sticky, sometimes press and volume goes full blast when i dont want. kinda annoying, taken button out and cleaned but no difference . not sure if i should send back as im rooted :crying:

The volume up button broke on mine after 4 days. It stopped springing back up after pressing it. Vodafone swapped my handset, and so far so good.
It is a little worrying to see others having similar issues with their buttons - I assumed mine was an isolated incident.

[Q] Top Power Button

From the reviews, it seems the power button is tough to hit, without completely changing your grip on the phone. I actually hated trying to hit the power button on the HTC one x. I assume this will be even tougher with the longer length. Are there any apps, to allow the volume rocker to power on the phone?

There is no doubt devs will implement a volume rocker wake toggle into roms in the near future.. but frankly I'm okay with the power btn, I have a Rezound with a button that's completely flush to the device xD It's annoying but the DNA looks like it has a little bit of "space" for u to hit it, aka it's not flush.
ah well.

I have a Nexus now and use the Liquid rom which definitely has this feature to wake up using volume buttons. Also there are apps like Smart screen On which make use of proximity sensor to wake up device.

Yes, the smart screen on app is fantastic, pull the phone out of your pocket or swipe your hand over the sensor and it wakes (to the unlock screen), put it back in your pocket (or leave the screen/flip the device to cover the prox sensor) and screen goes off!
