ODIN to update your phone
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Try a Samsung/ Kies forum .Or a Samsung service centre .
Or join XDA Developers and flash stock rom via Odin .
jje
Check device status in about phone - status and see if its modified..if its modified u cant update your phone via phone or kies..since modified kernel will stop the updating process...download the ota update file from sammobile and flash it via odin
Hope it helps...

All, today here in indonesia, there was notification to update my phone software, so i clicked update then it started to download "update package" with about 22MB.
when the download finished, i click update then the phone rebooted.
the next screen is look like android robot which it's stomach opened and there something in it's stomach. below that robot, there's a update loading process.
when the process is about 20%, the robot was fall down and above the stomach there's a red warning sign then the phone rebooted again..
I was scared that my phone would be bricked i thought, but it didn't..
but when my phone startup, it's said software update failed..
maybe anyone can explain what's wrong?

No firmware details so a look in my crystal ball says its a rooted phone .
OTA updates will not install on rooted phones . Flash stock via ODIN .
jje
sorry forget to tell, it's yes that my phone rooted.. i'm using CF root 6.3 with CWM..
5 minutes ago, i did full unroot using superSU and i try to update again.. but no hope, failed again..
the update detail said it's only improve stability..
if you tell me to flash using odin, then how to download the update package manually?
sorry, i'm noob here with worst english, haha..

I also face a same problem, malaysia cwm 5.8.4.5, also tried with kies, halfway keis said `time out`, where can we download the update n flash with odin?
I had a similar problem, I had to move the update.zip out of /cache/fota/ and then use cwm to update it.
Had to re-root too so you're prolly better off just installing it all via odin.

Firmware
Download via CHECKFUS.
Or from the stock rom thread on XDA
Or sammobile.com
Or via Google search engine .

Hi,
today I tried to update my sgs3 via kies and now it's stuck at 18% for 30min. what can I do?
thank you!
yoper
Wait
Or use the recovery in Kies tools .
Or join XDA and flash stock rom via Odin .
Or return to service centre .
A Samsung user forum may have more information on KIES .
jje
But can I unplug the cable and stop the FW update?

Yes but if it is actually updating it may be a problem .

I pushed the power button on the phone and know I got a message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
and now this message don't disappear, I'm trying to recover via kies. but I think this is going nowhere.
It's possible that I've bricked my phone?
Not bricked .
Choice one take to a service centre say Kies update failed .
Or from XDA flash stock rom for your location .

As u have no clue of how to flash firmware, u need to read a lot (not that much).I would take it back to the story and tell them kies failed upgrade. In the mean time read here on how to flash, why cos' it's fun and improves your phone by a mile
I've been reading a lot about flashing, but I don't understand one thing, if I flash a original rom through odin I void my guarantee? or not?
I'm trying the recover firmware through kies but it's not recognizing my phone. I tried to put the phone in download mode and it works, otherwise the recover message appears everytime I turn on the device. but Kies does't recognize it.
thank you
Thank you all.
Today I did the recover with other pc and everything went fine with kies recovery.

No Samsung warranty remains valid .

Thanks!!! good to know, next time I will flash via odin.

Original firmware is signed by Samsung so warranty is intact.
If youre rooted and a problem occurs.then use "triangle away" to reset flashcounter and flash a stock firmware with Odin.then off to the store with full warranty...
I didn't rooted my phone yet, I'm new to android, my first experience with Android was with my xperia x1 but was not stable so I moved again to wm. And then I changed to iOS and now I bought the sgs3. So I have the phone for about 1 month and now I'm still in the reading part. Then I will root.
My phone is an Italian one unlocked, and I have this firmware XXALF6, is this the last firmware? Because my problem started because I was trying to update, when I search for a new software on the phone I get this message to try with kies and when I tried, it got stuck and I don't know if this is the last firmware or not. I searched on sammobile and seems to be the last one.
Thank you for the info.

I finally got the LFB update OTA today after waiting for 2 weeks and I downloaded it but when I tried to install it, it stopped at 30%, rebooted the phone and gave an error message saying that it can't do the update and that I should use KIES.
I'm rooted with no mods installed or flashed apart from a few pushed apps into /system/app.
I've had an OTA update before and that installed fine but I wasn't rooted at the time.
I know i can flash via odin but id rather not.
Any help appreciated.

Kies sucks to be honest, it worked well on the S2 but on the S3 it doesn`t . What you can do is go to a service center and have them update it, flash with Odin as you said ( wich is the fastest and safest way btw) or wait for an OTA update. Or maybe retry a couple of times with Kies.

I think you misunderstood me. I haven't used kies yet. I've been trying to update via the OTA update and whilst its in 'download mode' (the one u get when flashing with odin) installing the update, it stops at 30% and the droid icon lies down with a red triangle on it. Then the phone reboots and gives me the error..
Btw, if I flash the latest firmware over my current stock LF2 via odin, will it wipe everything?

Sorry, wasn`t quite awake this morning Nothing will be wiped. The best thing you can do is to flash the rom yourself with Odin.

I think I'll pass on this update as Ive read around that they've removed the local search functionality when you long press menu on home screen.
Just gonna wait for a mod and then update.
Thanks for the reply

Root is not the issue. I am rooted with CF-Root v6.3 and it says so in the main thread that v6.3 supports OTA updates.

how to update camera firmware
After I root and install 3rd rom, my siii rear camera was bad, 'camera fault".
when click *#34971539#, there was no anything but "camera firmware standard", then jump to home screen, display a dialog box,"factory test stop".
Don't damage the hardware of the camera? But it has got well ever after I reset and dual wipe. I want to camera firmware, can I?
It's coming home, it's coming home, local search is coming home
Just in from my moan to Samsung Mobile UK:
"Samsung Mobile UK Hi Andy, Howard - the most recent software upgrade for the GALAXY S III in the UK included the inadvertent removal of the universal search function. Samsung will provide the correct software upgrade within the next few days. Thanks ^George

GTFI!!!!! :good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
Okay, so, this is not my phone. A friend bought the S3 and asked some guy to flash him an official S3 ROM from some region.
The original ROM was a SEE ROM, not branded.
The problem is that KIES says the phone can't be updated.
Ideas on how to find out which was the original ROM so we can flash it back and receive updates? I'll attach a screenshot of the about phone.

Aaaanyway... I suspect it's a ROM/radio/kernel mismatch. What other screenshots do you require?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It requires what ???? screenshot is whats on the phone now .
JB stock XDA will soon have plenty .
Original SEE rom then you can either guess or use the original rom .
use CHECKFUS to download SEE firmware then KIES should update whenever JB gets released for SEE .
Or from Sammobile.com .
The problem is that KIES says the phone can't be updated.
Can mean that their is no update yet for that firmware .
What firmware are you expecting NOT JB unless its Poland .
jje
You could try going through the Firmware Upgrade and Initialization process on Kies. It let me flash my phone back to NEE after a mismatch but you need to do it the long way. You'll need the S/N from under battery. Obviously Kies won't let you do it because of the mismatch so you want to force it to give you an option to do an Emergency firmware recovery. I can't remember if I had phone connected or not so you might need to try with and without phone. Enter the phone model followed by S/N in the initialization window and wait for it to fail with an error code and a suggestion to try Emergency recovery. Make a note of the code. Stick your phone in download mode and connect. Open emergency firmware recovery and select from the list or enter code if there's nothing in the list. Start that process and it should flash to the most recent firmware for the phone's region.
Edit: Hope that makes sense. I'm just doing it from memory so feel free to ask if something is amiss. I'm in the process of feeding 2 very cranky twins at the moment so can't try it on Kies myself just now.

What's CHECKFUS?
I do have to say, my Gnex is really much simpler with ROM variations than the S3.
Open Kies, don't connect the phone, click tools > firmware ppgrade and initialization process > enter model and serial number (not imei), you'll get the sales code. Then you can connect the phone and continue the process, or just download official firmware for that area and flash with odin.

Hey guys, Samsung finally released another update for the Galaxy Ace and i want to download it
I did recently root my phone + extended the internal storage
But when i try and do a software update with my phone it downloads but then it reboots and goes to the installing part it won't install and shows a notification saying Failed
I then tried to upgrade with Kies, and all it did was stay on 100% on the downloading components part, nothing was happening to my device
So then i Un-Rooted my phone and then tried the two steps above same thing happend
Now i am thinking to whipe my phone and re-try it?
Also could you answer these:
1. If my phone is rooted will it affect firmware upgrades / will it rooted make firmware upgrades fail
2. Do i need to put it on Download mode?
Just flash the firmware of your country using Odin V3.07.. Dont update via kies..
