I have a Xperia Sola, and I want to root it. However, I'm kinda scared to do it, since it's new and I don't want to ruin it.
I've checked out this site: unlockroot.com. Is this 100% safe?
Also, my kernel is 6.1.1.b.1.54, and I would have to downgrade to .10 to root. Will the program do that, or it will not work at all?

use this link to root your .54 firmware...........
there is no problem in rooting until you know what applications are gaining your root access and do you trust those apps.............
Rooting helps you to gain administrators rights as in windows......... so its comes in handy to bee rooted (IMO)...........
Thanks for the answer.
Is it that easy to do? Can it ruin the phone?

Moved to Q&A
you can root the .54 version via fastboot with theBrains Kernel or something... or you also can root the .54 version with this method which is flash .10 KERNEL, root it using binary method and flash .54 KERNEL.... that shall root the .54 version..... also, make sure you have the .54 version before you root using the .10 Kernel and the .54 KERNEL!!!!!
Is it safe? Could I brick my phone while flashing the kernel?

No..... until you use the kernel meant for your fone.......
As long as you root your phone using the LockerBootloader version, you would be able to unroot your phone anytime.
It's safe, as long as you use it carefully [For example, if you want to install something through CWM, backing up is a must in case something doesn't go well.]

If you are not comfortable with the previous methods, you can try rooting through the flashtool.
And the kernel 6.1.1.B.1.10 Global works on every Xperia Sola?

why did you downgrade ? You can still flash ICS and then custom kernel like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398910
it will install busybox and su, and voila you are rooted ics

I don't understand why people keep saying "just flash a custom kernel"... flashing a custom kernel is not like rooting. It involves unlocking the bootloader, and not everyone wants to do that.
You should say: "Maybe you already know this, but there's another way to root ICS. However, it involves unlocking the bootloader. If you feel like messing up with your phone, you could try."
As title says really...
I read all 300 odd pages of bin4ry's thread yesterday and it seems that the easy root via restore method does not work with JB on the Xperia Go.
Are there other ways to root as I am lost how to do it at the moment? As my phone has unlocked BL I know I can flash pre-rooted custom roms but I'd quite like to play around with the stock rom first.
Any help appreciated...

im really newbie on this new device..
i need to root it!
i need simple steps how i can run kernes, i got this infos for my phone
LT22I
ANDROID:4.2.1
KERNEL;3.0.8
6.2.A.0.400
any simple steps to root that phone pleasE?
easy and fast...
thanks for reading
For what I know you must unlock bootloader to root 6.2.A.0.400, but if you want to use custom kernels you have to do it anyway.
Be sure to backup DRM keys before you do.
For FW 6.2.A1.100 there are easy ways to root withoyt unlocking BL.
From all my experiments with custom kernels I can't say I have seen benefit using them aside from the fact they are easy to install and save the trouble of rooting and installing CWM recovery.
There are problems with 6.2.A.0.400 phone/dialer, so it would be better if you upgrade to 6.2.A.1.100 if you can.

hi all
new from samsung to sony.
just curious, is it the only way you guys used to root or re-root xperia devices after updates with vroot, tools from DooMLoRD etc? i mean except those mentioned, nobody use other alternatives to root xperia devices (in general, not z tablet only)?
and thus if these tools are not compatible with new firmwares then u r not able to root your device in case the previous root was removed?

You can open the bootloader and then you will always be able to root (flash custom recovery, root, flash stock kernel).

Then I guess you can only root with the exploits and need to be careful about upgrades.
Is it possible to downgrade with Flashtool on locked BL? I think it is (but it's confusing). If it is then you need to keep FTF of the current version in case you upgrade to a new version that can not be rooted.

Any thoughts on that?
Thanks

Updates are region and/or provider dependant.
You can take your chances and flash generic world formware.

I want to do it so i can root my phone, but since I've never done this, I'm a bit insecure and hesitant.
From the research I've done rooting my Xperia P is preferred to be done with the latest firmware which I don't have.
What would you suggest I do? I am completely new to this.
Thanks

Like before you do anything with your phone, take a full backup with PC Companion, and backup other data it doesn't manually.
Then you will need to download and install flashtool, install the drivers for Xperia P, flash mode, and fastboot mode with the drivers installer from drivers directory under flashtool directory.
Find and download generic 6.2.A.1.100 firmware file and flash it.
Exclude TA when you flash.
I have my firmware uploaded here, it's a two part 7-Zip, archive.
You may look for others that are more sutable for your region.
To root 6.2.A.1.100 use DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
My phone is acting really crazy and I can't do a backup with PC Companion, nor with the phone app for backup, but I don't care anymore.
I'll try everything you suggested and let you know if it worked.
Thanks a lot, you have been more than helpful. I really appreciate it.
