[Q] Kies doesn't recognise curent firmware version. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to all.
I seem to have a problem with samsung kies. I have a GT-I9100 international with android 4.0.4 and i read that an update to jelly bean might be available. Connected my phone via usb and it connected with all the features working accept the showing of the firmware option and option to check for updates. Note that i have already updated the phone using kies once. Can anyone help me with my problem here.
Thanks

I think we've been thru this already, but well:
JB update is not rolling yet.
I think I get your problem, but I just don't get your question.
Tried update/reinstall kies?

I updated/reinstalled it but still doesn't work. In fact this happened to me when i was on android 2.3.6 but somehow it went off by itself.
I get many of those problems with kies.
Thanks for the reply

Now, you gotta clean your device's drivers from your pc. All you need is a clean uninstall right from the root and all should be fine.
Re-Download Kies from the samsung's site and let it update, reboot your pc and plug your device.
Might also wanna check another usb's socket/cable.

Hi,
I check here for the official updates for Samsung, and when I check it here, it still says there no official update yet released for SII.
Samsung has released Jelly Bean update for SIII only.
Regards,
Hereticnine.

Can Any One Help Me?
I had a different problem with updating through KIES, but all the same, Odin flashing is the best way to go.
Have you all got the latest version of Kies? I believe there was a sizeable update recently. I can't really advise more than that as I get updates from here and use Odin.

Same problem, that I am facing. Latest kies as well. Seems like kies is the worst software ever designed in the history of mankind.
Any simpler way to update the phone. Does ODIN require root?

https://twitter.com/samkiesupdates has a pretty nice overview of what phones have Kies updates available.
It really is out!
JellyBean really is out but the bluddy thing won't install for me!!!
See screenshot here for confirmation- http://i45.tinypic.com/160al46.jpg
I tried to install it last night via my Windows 8 and Windows 7 laptops and I have now tried it on my Windows 7 pc at work but it just won't happen!
I get occasional errors that it couldn't get admin rights from the phone, and now it seems to be Kies itself that's knackered with KiesPDLR crashing.
I got my phone from Mobi-city.co.uk. It came from Hong Kong but seems to be the European version. None of this should matter though, as if Kies is offering me the firmware then surely it has recognised that my phone is one of the ones that should get it!
Really annoyed!!!
well that poland seems like test 1

Thanks. I just found a forum with other users experiencing exactly the same as me, so at least I know enough to get on with the rest of my life. ah well, false alarm on the JellyBean front. Sorry folks.
Thanks everyone. You guys cleared my doubts i knew i could count on xda and its members.
Should be this month, apparently... although it's hardly the first rumour with a confirmation from Sammy with no official release date.

I dont know if this polish version is really an official but i have been using jelly bean on a note II and ny feeling is that it is smoother and less bug in the note II

Apparently the Polish version is a test release, (release candidate) I would assume there is a note in the terms and conditions stating it may contain bugs. not 100% sure on this.
So we could get that exact same version when it eventually rolls out to the rest of the EU, or it could be a bug fix version, either way it's obviously close to a full EU release and nothing much will be different if anything.
Personally I'm just waiting for the official EU release, but if you can't wait, there's no harm in installing the Polish version (providing you follow the relevant directions of course)
i also have the I9300XXLH1 baseband and no new updates i realy hope the final jb rom will have the multi tasking that the note II got 2 days ago

OTA Updates not working

Quite some time ago I rooted my S2 to get it unlocked. I then shortly after unrooted and flash ICS onto it when it was first due to be released. Ever since it does not ever find any updates.
Can anyone help with why this may be?
whin ics was firsted released from this site was never considered official, just leaked firmware. OTA updater will not recognize leaked software it is not stock, it was modified slightly.
You would need to find a stock ics which was releaed about mid 2012. Flash that and OTA should work.

Update to 4.2 stuck at 2%

First I've tried to update my firmware S3 with WIFI and I never got the download.
Then I try to update using Kies. The download has been stuck at 2% for over 3 hours. I can't disconnect the usb cable and I can't cancel the download. What now ? What happens if I disconnect the cable ? I don't want to brick my phone, I didn't even make a backup.
what? there's not official 4.2 update for the s3 from samsung.

It has to be, I got the update by notification, I didn't give too much attention to it when I started the update but I was running 4.1, that I am sure of.
must be 4.1.2... dont think you got 4.2 official on your S3 (aint released)

nope, it's still 4.1.2! samsung has not made any official announcement to push 4.2.1 to the S3.
so just because there's an update != 4.2.1
*facepalm*
that's not the problem, the problem is that it is stuck. what am I looking at if I disconnect the cable? how do I fix this ?
it is cos there is not official 4.2 update: if there was samsung would have announced it would have been bringing it to the S3 and no such announcement was made.
and now it all sounds fishy!
You can get the latest firmware from sammobile and flash it via Odin
