[Q] Unlocked at&t phone in new zealand - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just bought an unlocked samsung sgh i-777 (at&t) from ebay and currently using vodafone nz.
Here are the vodafone frequencies..
Vodafone's mobile network operates on the following frequencies:
A 2G GSM voice network on 900/1800MHz (almost every GSM mobile should work on these frequencies)
A 2G GPRS data network on 900/1800MHz
A 3G UMTS data network for voice, video calls and data on 2100MHz
A 3G HSDPA network on 2100MHz
Although i am able to get internet on my phone and its not too slow (6.5mbps), my galaxy mini used to be alot faster (atleast 10mbps). My internet is some areas is jus reaaally slow where my mini used to do great.. I was just wondering if there is something i can do to improve the 3G ? my internet is some areas is jus reaaally slow where my mini used to do great..
any help would be appreciated. thanks

Try flashing another modem. Of course, your speeds may vary greatly depending on your exact location.

Hi, Just purchased the hd2 T Mobile from USA. Which carriers can I use in Canada to activate this Phone? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
any of them(well, except any cdma only ones) but you will need an unlock code from online or from t mobile, and you won't get 3g
Thanks for the help samsamuel. I took it to one carrier and they told me it wouldn't work. The phone is unlocked. Why wouldn't I get the 3G.I want the plan that gives me internet mobile browsing. PS it was fido I took it to.
because fido uses 1900 for 3g, from what i've read, and the tmous uses 1700/2100 for 3g., and i think rogers uses 850/1900 and maybe 1900/2100 (just skimming google for this infofact is, though, that without the 1700 aws band,, no high speed data.
you will be able to get gprs and edge for browsing, but no 3g/hsdpa.
as to them saying it won't work, they're probably either making it up or meaning 3g
most canadian users fork out the extra for the telstra model if they want 3g.
Thanks. I guess this phone is useless to me, as I wanted to be able to access the internet without using the wifi.

you can, but only with gprs / edge speeds.
I had been considering buying an HD2 and trying to unlock it for use with an AT&T sim card for my current account. I knew that their networks were compatible, but I didn't realize that hsdpa was on different frequencies. I googled around a bit and it looks like AT&T uses 1900 mhz and Tmo uses 1700/2100. I can't verify if this info is correct ,but this could sure put a dent in my plans. Does anyone know for sure if an HD2 can be used on AT&T's 3g network?
there are several threads about how you can't. go read in the tmous specific section. plenty of confirmation that it doesn't.
3G Frequencies
Hi there!
I was wondering if there is a way to change those settings?? I have a T-Mo HD2, and maybe there is a way to make the phone work with the 3G technology in other frequencies besides the 1700 and 2100 MHz (I live in latin america, so it would have to use the 850Mhz frequency) Anyone please help me with this issue.
As one who unlocked a TMoUS HD2 to AT&T I can assure you that you will not get 3G anywhere in the US or Canada that I can find. On a bright note, it's a phone... With everyone else using 3G networks I find the Edge network to be utterly "unclogged" and find the speeds to be just fine for everything including streaming video.
PS: The phone was free but without a SIM card and I was an AT&T user - not to mention T-Mobile's network leaves a lot to be desired..
There is 3g service in Canada if you happen to be in an area where Wind Mobile is available. search Wind mobile coverage area.
We (family)have several cell phones I use the HD 2 on Edge and it doesn't bother me that its a little slower, actually when I did a quick check with my daughter on her 3g I hardly could tell the difference. I' m sure some will point out where I'm wrong. But I'm satisfied with edge because I enjoy the HD2.
Wind Mobile uses 1700/2100.

[Q] Mini Pro is really a HSPA enabled handset?

Hii all
I'm from India, using Sony Ericsson Mini pro (u20i) and still in Airtel 2G and here Telecom Operators just started to roll out 3G services. Currently Airtel, Vodafone and TATA Docomo providing 3G services here.
I checked my handset compatibility both in Airtel and Vodafone websites. According to them my Mini Pro is 3G enabled but based on WCDMA technology so i get low speed 3G upto 384kbps. So they are suggesting me to upgrade HSPA enabled handsets that supports higher speed 3G that varies from 14mbps to 21mbps. I have been told that 3g on WCDMA really sucks as compared to HSPA enabled handsets.
According to Tata Docomo which provides HSPA + (also dubbed as 3.5G+) service and as they mentioning in their 3G handset compatibility list that Mini pro supports HSPA and it is a superior 3G ready handset. Sony Ericsson Indian website also states that it has Turbo 3G and HSPA enabled. Even in my handset box it has clearly mentioned that handset has HSPA and Turbo 3G.
Now in the handset settings menu, there is an option to select network mode which only gives only 3 options that is WCDMA only, GSM only and GSM/WCDMA.
So which one is true? Is my Mini Pro HSPA ready handset or only supports WCDMA? What Sony Ericsson and Tata Docomo states is true? or Airtel and Vodafone? Which Sim to buy? Im in great confusion. Please help in this regard.
it is HSPA ready. in spain, with vodafone i get the H icon of HSPA
Its hspa bro..im using mini pro nd while using mtnl hspa I got 3 mbps speed...our handset supports upto 7 mbps speed I think...

Yeah it IS HSPA enabled, it uses it by default usually, which adds to the miserable battery life if there is no 3g or HSPA signal available, as it continually scans, looking for it.
Mine actually uses HSPA by default, dropping to 3g when the signal is poor and down to G when it loses 3g altogether. (H, 3g, G respectivly).
Rooted phones can also have the full power of the connectivity chip unlocked to achieve up to 8mbps depending on provider and reception etc.
I'm with O2 UK
Quickly knowing your phone is via its signal which either H, E or G on top of the signal strength bars. Mine usually showing H.
I think they goes like this:
H - HSPA
E - Edge
G - 2G or GPRS
Thank u all for clearing my doubts. Got relief now. Really appreciated your help.
what about the mini?

Excuse me? What aside from 802.11n support (which has nothing to do with mobile provider) can be "unlocked" in a rooted phone?

LOL, Mini and Mini Pro hardware is identical in almost every way. In short, yes.

Xperia sk17a mini pro USA companies coverave for 3G

Hey guys,
For those living in the US... do you happen to know what companies are compatible with our 3G bandwidth frequencies ?
I bought a T-Mobile SIM Card, it's working fine but I can't get 3G (UMTS) , just 2G (GSM) since T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 Mhz for his High Speed Data connections... and this mobile (both, sk17a and sk17i) doesn't support 1700mhz, but 850, 1900 and 2100.
I know AT&T uses 850&2100Mhz for 3G, but I think this company banned internet calls through 3G, which sucks.
So... is there any other company compatible with our mobile with 3G support?
Thanks
Did you order the phone outside of the US?
No, I ordered it on amazon and is the American model
Sent from my SK17a using XDA App
I got mine on Amazon and it's a SK17i.
I have T-mobile, but I have a problem with losing network randomly every now and then whatever I do.
edit:Apparently it was a SK17a. Could've sworn it said SK17i on the order page... Odd. Oh well.
I have network mode on manual and set to GSM only, but I still lose signal sometimes...
Try setting 'network mode' to manual, and choosing 3G or 2G only. It seems to help.

[Q] 2g 3g 4g Speeds in the US with European SGS2

Hi folks
I just moved to the US (about a week ago) and was wondering why my mobile internet connection is so slow.
I have a SGS2 factory unlocked and i was fine with it in Germany (no problems with 2g or 3g speed)
Now I'm in the US with a t-mobile prepaid card which should give me 3g speeds , if not 3g at least EDGE Speed. But the only thing i get is the E-sign with 2 arrows which is friggin slow.
As far as i know t-mobile's 2g & 3g frequencies should be the same as in Europe.
So my question: Is my phone the problem or is it just that the 2g/3g coverage in San Diego is so bad ?
thx in advance
its normal...coz sgs2 does not support t-mobile 3g bands....but it does support at&t 3g bands....i am also using t-mobile prepaid plan...and dont use data that much...coz everywhere i go i have wifi....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
ah ok thx for the reply
do you happen to know if an factory unlocked iphone (without sim lock bought directly from apple) will be able to use the US-3g bands as well as the European ones ?
as far as i know....it will be same as sgs2....only supports at&t 3g bands.....no t-mobile.....
Ok thx man.. Guess I gotta ask them directly then

Asking who directly? T-Mobile USA? You can ask, won't change the answer. If you want 3/4g in the US with either a European Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) or an unlocked iPhone, you will need to be on AT&T.
T-Mobile doesn't use the frequencies that those two phones support.

E-sign = EDGE.
So if i buy me i9100 s2 and i put at&t sim card, i live in texas USA will i get at least 3g signals?

USA uses different bands from the rest of the world because, well, idk
North America:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
Rest of World:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
This might be the case here, i don't think its carriers fault but idk really.

[Q] Optus AU Network 3G Issues with SGS2

Hi to all XDA members.
I've scoured across the internet everything I could find about modems and firmwares and which version works for Optus and so on but to no avail so I'm finally asking for some help.
I have problems maintaining 3G network and I've tried limiting the network to 3G network only using "extended controls", sometimes it works, but when there's no 3G available in the area, I wouldn't even be able to connect to the normal mobile network.
Sometimes I would get H+ / 3G signal outside of a building but when I enter it, it will reduce to EDGE and I cannot get my 3G at all, other Optus users maintain their 3G network.
If anyone knows of a solution, please tell me.
Thanks in Advance!
