[Q] Network issues after flashing CM10? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

*Used the search tool first - no joy*
Running CM10 Stable - current config:
UNLOCKED (HTD Dev)
S-ON
HBOOT-1.19.000
RADIO-1.12.11.0809
Since flashing CM10 this weekend, my mobile data has gone in the toilet. Network/"no connection" errors and gray bars way more often, despite not changing a thing about my radios. Weirdly, if I turn on wifi, it seems to improve my reception as well (as in, I'm not on a wifi network - just the act of switching on wifi somehow gooses network performance, but only a little.) I haven't done better than two blue bars since I did this, and I've only seen "4G" once. I used to get far better than that.
Checked Settings, everything seems fine. Thoughts? More data needed?

Thanks - do I need to re-lock as part of this, or simply flash Sense, re-provision, re-flash CM? Just want to keep this painless.

You don't relock

(n00bish question alert) Is there a way to re-flash Sense from a .zip with TWRP? Trying an ICS RUU executable linked elsewhere in this forum and I keep getting "Error 155". Will anything Sense-like work, or does it have to be stock?

Any sense-based rom will work...and you're exactly right: grab the zip and flash through twrp. Make sure to do a nandroid of your current rom first so you can restore after you're done.

Took me a while to find a ROM with a kernel installer (my sticking point) - MeanBean plus the reset did it. Thanks, gents.

HTC Jewel GPS Fix

***Pre warning***
Turning your phone s-off gives you a chance of bricking your phone. I am not responsible if you try these steps and have problems. Also you will loose all your data as you will be wiping your phone multiple times. Make sure to backup all your data (I used Titanium backup) OK?! :good:
I had done a ton of research trying to fix the GPS on my HTC Jewel and never found a solution that worked. Issue was the GPS would not lock. I was originally running MeanRom, then JellyBam, and finally switched to CM10.1 nightly builds, all with no GPS. Last night though I finally fixed it and wanted to post this for anyone else having this problem.
Prior to last night here is how my phone was setup:
S-On
Hboot 1.19
Radio 1.12.11.0890
CM10.1 20130224
I saw that HTC released a new update, and started digging on how to update when on a custom ROM. I realized that I needed to go s-off which I had tried last year with LazyPanda, but it failed.
Last night I was able to go S-Off following directions from FacePalm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163013
It was a lot easier than DirtyRacoon and I'm running Win7x64 which DirtyRacoon says is not supported by them.
Once I was s-off I downloaded the latest Radio 1.12.11.1210 from: http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?13192-RADIOS-RECOVERY-FLASHABLE-Jewel-Radio-Collection
I confirmed that the radio upgraded successfully and rebooted. I was then prompted to activate my phone, and when I tried to activate it gave me the error that I was not authorized! With some help from the FacePalm IRC channel I was pointed to having to flash stock to be able to re-activate and then flash again back to your custom ROM.
I downloaded and flashed with Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_2.13.651.1 found here http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?14585-ROM-Kernel-2-13-651-1-Stock-Rooted-Based-on-Latest-OTA-(Odexed-and-Deodexed)
Booted and re-activated, and confirmed GPS working! Then I re-flashed with CM10.1 20130228 and GPS was still working!
I hope this helps others as I have seen a lot of forums with people complaining about the HTC Jewel GPS and saying it's faulty hardware, unfixable, or their fixes are all in app software related.
Thanks!
One thing that I would like to add is if you go stock, do NOT turn off your GPS after you get a lock. I usually have GPS turned off to save battery, but it was the reason why the new ROMs couldn't get a signal.
So to recap
1. Go back to stock
2. Get any old signal even for just a second
3. Immediately flash your new ROM without turning off GPS
4. Enjoy
This indeed works.
I don't like Sense-Based ROMs, so the first thing I did after getting my Jewel was S-Off, and I'm running AOKP. The GPS was driving me crazy, and I couldn't figure out how to get it working.
I updated my radio, flashed a sense-based ROM, locked GPS, then reverted back to AOKP, and it works flawlessly!
This method works!
Is this really a fix? You described how to s-off and go back to a stock Rom. Are you saying that custom roms don't lock fast enough, if so I've experienced this too. I don't see how going back to stock then flashing a custom Rom would fix that.
The way I fixed the problem before was to flash back to sense, clear maps data and flash back to CM10.1. VoilĂ
I use waze

The only reason you have to go back to stock is to re-activate your phone.

now when ever i try to use my phone it says no service and the 4G is pretty slow
I already went to settings > mobile network > and the setting in there and still no luck
im s on
HTC unlocked
any help thanks
is ur radio up2date ?
did u flash the ruu of global rom ?
No i havent how would i go about doing that
what is your hboot?
Option1:
Flash the stock recovery. Then try a factory reset inside of HBOOT.
Link to stock recovery: http://goo.im/devs/Flyhalf205/Rezound/Recovery/stock_recovery_signed.img
Option2:
Go into mobile network settings and change to Global Mode. If already on global. Change to CDMA/LTE auto
EDIT
I posted in the wrong thread
Thank you all for your help
Flyhalf205 I flashed the recovery and factory reset and that worked. Thanks a lot

It's many months since Flyhalf's post, but I wanted to report that after getting a replacement unit, I also ran S-OFF and htc dev unlock and pushed the radios forward to the latest and found that I could no longer make or receive calls, send or receive texts, although data/4G/wifi and BT were all functioning nominally. Tech support couldn't solve it; a new SIM card couldn't change things, and when I finally rolled all the way back to the last GB RUU, and FINALLY did a factory reset WITHIN HBOOT that cleared the problem. I then let the handset download the OTA's one by one to bring it up to speed.
I'm putting this here because I didn't find anything else for "no phone service" or "lost cell service" and was about to open a new thread in troubleshooting when I found this thread, followed Flyhalf's advice and I am now fully operational again. Hppefully someone else doing a similar search will see this post.

I wanted to 2nd this post with a small addition. After S-offing my rezound and flashing the latest CarbonRom, I ended up losing 4G. I mistakenly though it was related to gaining s-off and performing a full factory restore and update. I was left with a phone that did everything but receive 4G signal. I had reliable 3G data and could make/receive calls/SMS/MMS. I only lost 4G data. After finding this post, thank you hgoldner for talking it up, I flashed the ICS RUU and then performed a factory reset. I probably could have just flashed the stock recovery but the Goo.im servers appear to be acting up and I couldn't download it from Flyhalf's link above. For those of you with signal issues following a custom ROM flash, I'd definitely suggest giving this a try.

[Q] Help, phone won't switch to 4G, stays on 3G data now after ROM swapping...

Hey guys! So I moonshined and got S-OFF on my phone. I first backed up my factory ROM after I wiped all the data so I would have it to go back to in the future if needed, this was done through clockwork mod. So I first tried using the NOS M7 ROM, didn't like that as the home screen seemed too Window's 8 phone like to me. I then tried the CyanogenMod 10.1, I noticed that my phone was only getting 3G data at this point. I was using my wife's new Galaxy S4 that was getting 4G as a comparison to mine. We were traveling through town so it's not a tower based issue, as her phone showed 4G.
I then tried to switch to viperDNA1.3.1 and I had all sort of issues with it. Heck this morning it would not even show me my alarm notification when it was going off to shut the phone up. I had to power it off to silence it. It even stopped showing the notification bar on the top of the screen and I couldn't even do the drag down thing to see notifications and settings.
So today at work I downloaded RageDNA to see if an optimized stock app would work for me, no change..... I even formatted my sdcard to blank it and the did an adb push to transfer the ROM.zip back to my phone.
SO.... between each app I would launch into ClockWorkMod and 1. wipe dalvik cache. 2. format system. 3. wipe data/factory reset. 4. choose the zip from the sdcard (haha like we really have a true sdcard) and wait for the install and then launch into the phone and do the basic setup to get the ROM working.
HELP!!!! (me crying) I am afraid I did something to my phone during the flashing that jacked up the radio causing 4G to be broken. Is there something else you need to know from me to help me out, please let me know!
**********UPDATE**********
I double checked all my phones settings with a coworker who also has a DNA, but still S-ON. Everything is setup the same for settings on the APN's. I even recreated a duplicate APN that used the specified "LTE" network instead of the one that was defaulted on both of ours "unspecified". No change, even rebooted.
I also restored my CWM backup I did before making any changes to my phone via switching ROM's. The only difference is the fact that their network typeshows "LTE" where my shows "eHRPD". I am going to look into seeing how to reflash the radio to see if something got corrupt.
If it comes down to it I am going to reset my phone back to S-ON and reflash everything that I can find that I can do.
*********Resolution*********
After reflashing my radio, I did not get any 4G signal any more, I know Verizon towers were down for 4G near my work so not sure if they moved over to the towers by my home as I only live 10 minutes from work. So only after being at work for about an hour my 4G signal started on it's own without anything done by me today.
So as I was on the path to trying to take it back to stock I followed the guide that Phaded posted for getting back to S-ON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919. I had a few issues with that, as it turns out my phone was not showing anything about being "LOCKED" after running his first set of commands. So I pressed forward after talking with Phaded on this situation. I had even flashed from my CWM recovery back to the stock recovery (also notice when running the RUU that it flashes the recovery.) I ran the RUU and then got the 158 error then had to flash the HBOOT. After that flash the phone showed "***Tampered*** & ***LOCKED***". I then proceeded to run the RUU and it completed at that point with no issues. Then the last few DOS commands for fastboot and back to Locked and S-On. I updated back from 1.15 up through 2.06. Also doing so that made me realize you have to step from 1.15 to 2.04 and finally 2.06. So far the 4G is still working. I will keep it stock for a few days to ensure no further 4G issues then I will be moonshining again!!
Just a guess, you may have to flash the boot image. If so the directions are in the install directions for Viper

I just tried to restore my CWM files from prior to any ROM changes. So far I have 3G data, but I tend to get 3G more so at my house than 4G, so not sure if anything will change.
I am wondering if the SIM card could have anything to do with this issue as well.... could a ROM have written to the card and caused it to not read the 4G data, or whatever is on there.
I also see that my phone's network seems to be "eHRPD" not sure if this had anything to do with it or not.
I double checked all my phones settings with a coworker who also has a DNA, but still S-ON. Everything is setup the same for settings on the APN's. U need a new SIM card. 99% sure that's ur problem. They r free from any Verizon store. Give it a shot before u go thru the hassle of going back to s on and stock.

Too funny that you pointed me to that app, I just found another one LTE Settings.
So I tried your app also and they had the exact same data listed. So here's the screen shots I took from my app I pointed to. My phone will connect to 4G only and only if I choose "LTE only" if I move it to something else either by changing it through the OS settings, or changing it through this app, it goes back to getting 3G service. So at least this tells me my phone isn't broken, just some setting is F***ed up somewhere.
I have tried Global and CDMA/LTE settings with it always showing 3G.
yup that's freaking weird lol swing by a VZW store and get a free sim card since yours seems like it might be messed up what happnes if you flash something like crpalmers kernel though? your boot image might just be all screwed up. his latest version is June 24th.

Yeah weird! I just used the DNA Toolkit v1.0.5, I flashed the 2.06 radio and after it rebooted and what not, I went outside (as I have bad service inside this house) and now 4G won't even connect. Not sure if it's the towers, as the one by work went out around noon today.
So as it's a kernal and not a ROM how do I do that, just the same install from zip file in CWM? Do I need any certain ROM for it? As right now I have the factory one that I backed up with CWM when I did S-OFF. (it was a blank fresh factory reset)

OH also yeah your towers by you could be experiencing maintenance try driving to somewhere else id say at least a mile away.

does the factory restore work like your cwm one i mean?
Click on Mobile Data in your settings, and make your 'preferred' network LTE/CDMA.
I had the very same error with the stock phone, and once I switched it - I started getting 4G almost everywhere.

I don't think you would notice the change instantly. You will see in a few hours, especially if you go somewhere, you will be getting 4G - or if you restart the phone.
Further, what you can do is flash the radio.
Here's the file you need to flash: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9yd_oFytDSzUjRpLTZhSFEwWnc/edit
That is a Verizon radio, and it works also with other providers.
Use fastboot to flash:
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
Original thread of the radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236633
PS: This is the original verizon radio.

When I was at work, I compared a coworkers DNA and he was getting actual LTE signal. So don't think it's that with the eHRDP thing that I keep seeing. But yeah it looks like a "cheaters way" to get their CDMA hardware to work with LTE. lol
Sorry, I feel like a tard and not really following what you are talking about with the "factory" thing. If you mean in the hboot the factory restore, it takes you to the CWM recovery to do that factory restore. Plus the ROM restore seems to almost go through CWM as well, but does it automatically. I'm going to do a full wipe and set this thing back to factory settings. As when it's broke and not working, best thing to do is start fresh.

okay if you do it from hboot it wont do anything cause now cwm will stop that from running but that is the same as running factory reset in cwm, thats not what im talking about though when you first moonshined then booted cwm after getting it, did you run a backup of your factory(stock) ROM? if so it would be in sdcard/clockworkmod/backups it also would have been about 1.5-2GB's. you could also try the radio.img amer is taking about as well, that you need to flash with adb though in fastboot as he stated.

[Q] Broken USB Port, S-On, Bad flash, what can I do??

I left my phone on the counter near the dish drainer and smoked the usb/mhl port. Another time, I filled the thing with crushed banana. I can charge the battery using an external charger (hasn't burned my house down yet), but can't use the usb port at all. So I set the phone aside for a while.
S-On, rooted, was running Scrosler's Cleanrom DE 1.4. I got tired of my wife's iPhone 4 and started using the ReZound again recently, but got myself into trouble flashing the clockworkmod recovery over my AmonRA and can't go back. I'm stuck on CarbonROM (used HTCDumlock) with no stability unless wifi and mobile data are disabled.
Is it possible to get AmonRA back (or at least restore the nandroid I made with AmonRA) without a usb? What about S-Off without any USB connection?

Kind of a pickle without a working USB port...
You can not gain S-OFF without a working USB connection using any known (Juopunutbear, rumrunner, or firewater) S-OFF method, sorry. Although JTAG may be a possibility.
If Carbon is running and root is working, you could use Goo Manager to install TWRP, it has HTC Dumlock built in, and you could flash in Evervolv or something else more stable (later incarnations of Carbon caused me lots of issues as well). The backups are not compatible between Amon Ra, CWM, and TWRP though.
As far as getting Amon Ra installed without a working USB connection, it MIGHT be possible, but it is over my head... The real issue would be even if you did get it back on and restored your nandroid, being S-ON means you still need to flash your boot.img manually, even from a nandroid restore, which would be another issue altogether and probably highly difficult (if possible at all).
Although, if we are talking water damage and possible banana damage (did I really just type that?!?!) a different ROM may or may not help, this could all be a exercise in futility that one wrong move could brick you.
Hmmm. I did have the phone working well with CleanROM DE, so I know it's at least worth trying. I'm also not afraid of a brick seeing as what I have now is basically no better. Good point about the boot.img. I hadn't thought of that.
Carbon is working and moderately stable when wifi and mobile data are off. When I enable wifi, I tend to go into a boot cycle with 1-2s before reboot to disable it again. When enabling mobile data, I get frequent popups saying something like android.com.phone stopped working, and not data anyways. I do have a working recovery right now in CWM (up to date non-touch). But, I don't think that has HTCDumlock built in.

Have you tried just booting into CWM, wiping everything except external SD twice, and reflashing Carbon again, the same one so you don't have to try to flash the kernel?
Probably too late now but did you try drying it out via the bag of rice trick?
I found this nice app for getting files on and off via wifi, not doing you much good if your wifi makes you bootloop though.

At this point, an SDcard reader would be my investment and store your backups on the internal SDcard. This would allow you to use PH98IMG's. As far as your mobile data and wifi is concerned. It really sounds like you havent flashed the boot.img matched with the rom. If you still have the rom zip about place it on your external sdcard while in rom in a folder called lunar. Run sysrw in terminal emulator then invoke a script named "menu". Choose option 4, then choose the SAME zip you flashed. You might auto-reboot to recovery, just reboot back to system without any changes.
Thanks. I got wifii to run stable. Did a couple more wipes and re-flashed. ES file explorer disappeared, so maybe my previous wipes were insufficient. Also changed from "Launcher" to "Trebuchet", so a couple variables working together. Either way I flashed TWRP now, so I have HTCDumlock again.
Snuzzo, I'll try and follow your steps to see if that fixes mobile data. Not working right now with mobile roaming enabled, LTE or 3G. I can place calls now, though!
EDIT:: ran the Lunar Menu script and flashed the boot.img (seemed successful). wifi is stable, but no data.
At least you now know how to use LunarMenu and can flash a ROM using that instead also with using dumlock. Option 4 reboots you into recovery, let's you do your normal wipes which you then flash the matching ROM zip. Dumlock basically flashes recovery to your boot partition so to flash a rom , you would be flashing boot partition twice. My implementation flashes it only once.

You guys have been a great help. Thanks a lot
It seems my data connectivity issue is unrelated to the ROM i'm using. I must have caused it while tinkering or trying to update firmware. Now I'm on Evervolv with the same issues. Both Carbon and Evervolv are mostly stable with cell signal for calls and wifi, but no mobile data.
TWRP 2.6.3.0
HBOOT 2.21.0000
Radio 1.22.10.0310r/1.22.10.0308r
Is there something I can flash via a PH98IMG.zip that might fix this issue? Or maybe it's an issue with Verizon that they could fix?
I've a feeling it isn't your own Rez. I have a rom cooked with updsated Telephony. If things go right, release is imminent and very soon. No eta promised tho.

Thanks for joining in! I tried to update these, but was having a hard time. When I was looking at firmware update PH98IMG.zip's, it looked like you need to relock to flash these up, then unlock again (both requiring usb). Is it possible to update hboot and radios without doing this?

also need to be s-off to do this....with broken usb though only possibility i would say is on pure stock youd have to do all the updates givin by them...including stock recovery as well...and relocked bootloader is required...im wondering if theres a way around this that can be possibly worked in somehow...this is a tight predicament with the phone having no usb function and s-on though
1I went back to an old ICS rom (CleanROM DE 1.4) and got the same issue. Everything works except no data. I thought I'd post an update, but it's not so pressing here: LG G2 is in the mail!

Wifi and Cellular Data Problem

If my Droid Incredible 4G LTE is connected to Wifi, it disconnects from Cellular Data. When I leave where ever it is connected to WifI, it won't connect back to cellular data. I have to turn off Wifi, then reboot the phone. I haven't tried something like switching to Airplane mode, I will try that. Has anybody else seen this issue? The phone is on Straight Talk Veriozon network, so is using SIM card for 4G LTE and CDMA for voice.
Are you stock?
No. Probably would help to mention that. S-OFF, partitions swapped and rooted CM 1.2.1 FWIW, this was happening with CM 11.2 before the partition swap. It wasn't happening before I did S-OFF and flashed CM 11.2 but I was also living in a different location for several months. It didn't start until I moved to where I am now.
I would try to do a clean reflash and see what happens.
I will think about that but I did a clean install when I did the partition swap and flashed the new ROM. I'd rather not do that again and have to set the phone back up again.
Today it seems to be better, I moved from Wifi to out and about and it switched to LTE properly.

I may have to try the reflash after all. The problem's gotten worse and now as of yesterday and today a reboot of the phone isn't getting me cellular data back. This did not start until we moved to a temporary place where I get voice service but not data at home. So the phone spends a lot of time on Wifi and not in a place where it can get data. So I'm wondering if the Verizon network is somehow forgetting about the phone or somesuch. At my old house, it was connected to Wifi but the data network was always available. The phone is S-Off with a custom bootloader and recovery. Assuming I wanted to try, can I put the stock ROM back on it without undoing all that?

If you want to go to stock, you will have to reverse the partition swap.

That part I understand. What I should have asked was "if I want to go back to the stock ROM, do I need to undo the custom recovery, relock the bootloader, go S-ON, etc? Any other ROMS besides CM I might try? That could tell me if it is the ROM or not but, again I did not have this issue until I moved to an area where I can get voice, but no data.
You should be able to remain s-off. here are the stock packages if you don't have them, http://android.cmphys.com/stock-fireball/

Thanks. I will grab a stock ROM. I really like CM 12.1 (and the swapped partitions) though. I was able to get the phone back to cellular data this morning while I was on a chat with Straight Talk. Why a reboot worked then but not the 3 other times I have no idea. I'm also wondering what happens the next time this happens if I go into APN settings and change it to one that doesn't work, then change it back.
Over looking at the stock ROM downloads I see a link to this patch:
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/93484/
The ROM I am running now was built on 05/26. I see a newer CM 12.1 ROM dated 06/12 that contains that patch so I will flash that ROM, probably next week. I'm on call this weekend and don't want to risk bricking the phone.
I'm running the 6/12 build and it seems happy. I only run my Fireball on WIFI since I switched to AT&T and have a Nexus 5 for my primary.

Ive thought about getting a new phone on a GSM network but where we are building our house I can't get a ATT signal there, so I'm stuck with Verizon.
