Hi all ... I've been having this problem with my Samsung galaxy s2 i-9100 lately:
After booting, as soon as it enters into Android, the phone powers off. Also it seems not to be recognizing there's actually a sum card in it. I initially thought might be issue with my battery, but when I am going onto Recovery or Download mode I can clearly see the battery level being high (above 80%) and it is holding power as it should be.
One more thing I would add is that if I leave the phone connected to USB/charger, the phone stays ON and does not shutdown. Though sim card is still not recognized. And then as soon as I remove the USB / charger cable, the phone shuts down...
History: I was previously using Biftor 4.7 ROM , where everything was working fine.. then for some reason I reverted and installed stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM from sammobile.com . It is after installing the stock from that I think I started getting this issue.
I tried upgrading the modem to no avail ...
Current: baseband I9100XXLS6
Current Rom biftor 4.7
Any help and clue appreciated please ...
Thanks
Nitish

He mentioned current rom.
@Nitish. Can you try booting your phone with another battery? And even I once faced sim problem on lsj. It resolved by flashing rom after a wipe.

My brother coming from London end of this month so I asked him to bring me genuine batt and charger.
Mine is genuine too, just wanted to rule out any odds..
However I am 'quite' sure this is not batt related - I didn't see any gradual degradation of charge held by my battery ... and as i already mentioned, if i boot to recovery or download mode , even with the screen lit at all times, the battery does hold on for ages!
I was thinking its maybe modem(baseband?) Related.
When i started getting the issue, to come back, I was on stock 4.0.4 with baseband i9100xxlq6. I tried updating this to i9100xxls6, which is what I am currently on, but same issue.

What rom you flashed ?
Any custom rom available for download mode ? I was once facing issues with screen flashing at boot time and hanging there. Couldn't go to recovery. I fixed by using a custom cyanogen from into download mode .. but I seem to have lost it ...

Still isn't clear for me about current ROM, you were on ics 4.0.4 and went back to Bifort?
Flash this via Odin and see if it flies.
If you still on 4.0.4 beware of brick bug.
And I'm pretty sure batt's got anything to do with this.

Yeah I started encountering the issue while is was on ics 4.0.4 stock .... then for troubleshooting I went back to jb biftor but issue persists.
Yesterday I flashed stock 4.0.4 again then connected to kies . It was saying a firmware update was released: so I downloaded it via kies and updated. Now my device has:
ROM: stock 4.0.4
Baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Build Number: IMM76D.XWLPY
When I issue Settings > About Phone > Status , I see serial number as 00000000000
Is this normal?
Can u tell me about the 4.0.4 brick bug? What about efs?
Apologies for late reply, am using Tapatalk only on Touchpad now ...

Ok guys so something really weird happens to me.
1st details about my i9100
Rom: pilotx rom jb 2.3 ,works like 3 weeks.
Lately I had a lot of screen freezes and stucks.
So I just wanted to backup the system before I flash a new rom
Entered to rom manager pro and click backup.
That's it my phone try to restart himself and what's comes it just a weird flickering lights on the screen.
What did I try:
Hard reset with long press home+power= try to restart- this time Samsung logo shows at first and after same weird flickering lights
Recovery= can't access
Download mode= ok
Also try 2 take out the battery for 5 minutes= nothing!!
Have to bold that I have this brick bug so...
Thanks for all of you...
You say you can get into Download mode?
So flash with Odin a non emmc bug firmware. Am I wrong?

Do you know for sure that you have the insane chip (it's a piece of HW) ?
Try to get in touch with mobile through Odin PC before you begin to cry
If success getting access through Odin, then try to flash a stock 4.0.3 firmware.
If you still can't flash it properly AND you indeed have the eMMC bug ... you might still be able to flash stock 4.0.3 firmware at the cost of some lost SD memory (search XDA ...)
Odin doesn't recognize my device, so I am afraid that I have this brick bug...
So how exactly I going to flash the stock rom

If you can get into Download Mode then:
- Disconnect phones USB cable
- Kill any KIES process
- Start Odin
- Restart phone and go into Download Mode
- Connect cable
- Wait a minutes until Odin show it is connected
- Flash away
On XDA there is a lot of guides showing how to do this
This one might help you Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII :good:
It's NAND rw corruption, you don't have a kernel what can perform read/write action, you have formatted /system. Find Phistachio guide how to recover your phone. Good luck.
P.S. I've got same trouble :'(

AFAIK you cant use Rom Manager on our GS2 so sounds like you tried to flash a kernel via it first and now system wont boot.
Just simply go into download mode and flash latest Siyah kernel and it should boot after that.

Bkjugg tnx,
I use the pistachio guide as u said and now my phone back to live....
I really afraid of this brick bug...I just download the "got brick bug" app and its says that my phone is known to have the brick bug.
Yesterday I've start data wipe (going to give the phone to my wife).
Data wiped, started rebooting and I've got a black screen.
Seems the phone is fully dead. It's not turning on, not entering recovery mode (Volume Up+Home+Power), not entering download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power). When I connect charger it does not show battery charging on screen. :crying:
At Samsung Official Service Center they said me that it is motherboard fail and it is need to replace it and it costs $270. F4k them, I sure that this is a software problem, not hardware.
And when battery is in phone, the battery is heating up, so phone is on.
Can I do anything myself?
PS. All manuals here assume that one can enter download mode (Volume Down + Home + Power), but I can't enter it.
You could try using a usb Jig to get to DL mode.

bricked = dead = don't need to cry here on General forum = take it to fix at samsung = if still on warranty, it's free
If the phone is not booting at all (and it doesn't have any signs of life), then it's definitely hardware problem.

The only sign of life - is heating when connecting the battery
But how can this be a problem of hardware, if this problem arose after a reset to factory settings?
Seems that u wiped data on 4.0.4 with stock kernel .. which has the brickbug ( i mean the emmc brickbug , it corrupts the emmc , once it is corrupted, u must replace the entire motherboard ..i had the same problem last week .. sent it to samsung and was out of warranty too)
Sorry for your phone

After booting into download mode i installed this kernel and then my phone diden't restart. it has continued to show no other sign of life even after charing.

First of all: next time use a proper title for a new thread, because this one isn't quite 'usefull'..
Now, you say your phone doesn't show a sign of life. Do you mean it wont boot? Or can you enter Download mode? If so, try to reflash the kernel, and make sure it's the right one. You could also flash official firmware via Odin, if you want to.

my phone will not enter recovery mode or download mode. it will not turn on at all.
If you've completely bricked your phone. ..
Take your Battery out of the phone and charge with external charger. ..
After that use a USB Jig(should get on ebay, isn't much expensive) to boot your phone into download mode and Flash the stock Rom using Odin...
If this doesn't work then going to the official Samsung store should be your move..

It's all a bit random and some days i can barley use the phone, it will restart and crash for literally hours on end, even when i remove the battery for 30mins and put it back in, it continues.
I have been reding up and i suspect i have this sudden death thingi thats affecting phones, i checked using the little app and i do have the version that is affected.
so yesterday i installed cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-i9300 but i'm still having the same issues as before. is there anything i have missed?

I'm running stock JB with siyah kernel on my SGS3 GT-I9300. I wanted to try out a rom from CyanogenMod but when I was flashing it through CWM, my phone froze!! Now, it's not powering on. It's not going to download mode or recovery mode. I'm scared now. I flashed the right file, I know that. But somehow, it didn't work. Any ideas?
Also, I wanna know, that if I take it to Samsung Care, will they be able to make out that my phone was rooted before? Because device status was modified & flash counter was around 12 before I hard-bricked (atleast that's what I think) my phone.
Please help me out.

That`s weird, did it just froze during the flashing? I can`t imagine how that could hardbrick your phone since Cyanogenmod doesn`t touch the bootloader. At least download mode should work. BTW what version of Siyah Kernel did you use?
Yeah if you can`t even access download mode then there is probably nothing you can do. You can try a USB Jig but if that`s not working too then take it to a Samsung Service Center and play dumb. Say the phone just wouldn`t come on. And if they can`t access download mode then I highly doubt that they can see if your phone is rooted.
Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot for your answer. I'm an experienced flasher and I flash roms on daily basis that's why I'm also very shocked at this.
I have a USB jig from the days when I used to have Samsung Galaxy S2, but it's not working with my S3.
Anyways,I'll take my phone to Samsung Care only I guess. :crying:
P.S. Even after changing the motherboard or something, they won't know? Cuz otherwise I'm out 40000 rupees!! (I live in India)
EDIT: I was using Siyah kernel v1.8.9.
If Samsung get it to boot then its no warranty but probable that they will put it down to SDS and just change the motherboard .

Ok that`s really weird. I suppose it`s just some hardware failure then. Of course that it happened while you flashed a ROM is very unfortunate.
If they change the whole mainboard then all information that was on the old mainboard will be gone. There is no way after they change the mainboard that they will see if you were rooted or not.
