I'm planning on buying this phone.
Question 1: 16gb storage and 11 usable? Will ROMs remove some bloatware that takes up space?
Questions 2: this phone is factory gsm unlocked?, will this work with tmobile unlimited 4g? Or will there be some band problems?
Question 3: what is your guy's experience with the battery life? I've been researching and everyone says its amazing but I want something compaired to another phone like the nexus 4.

1: maybe a little, but don't expect to have 15 gigs free
2: assuming t mobile has lit up the 1900 band in your area you will be fine.
3: its comparable, and from what Ive seen a little better battery wise than a nexus 4. But don't expect note 2 or razr maxx battery life on this.

Hey guys, I am looking to upgrade my phone before verizon changes there contracts on the 28th. I'm wanting the s3 but my only thing is I tether a lot. Like 20+ gigs a month. With my x2 that i'm using theres a radio mod so its not noticeable. I'm wondering if such a mod is out for the s3 because lets face it free tethering is where its at. I already pay for unlimited data. But if you guys could please let me know that would be amazing
Thanks
The phone doesn't even exist for Verizon yet..

no but it will be out in a couple weeks. And there shouldn't be any real changes. So i figured if theres a hack in place for sprint or t-mobile then it should work for verizon as well
Does anyone have any information about this? I have to order what ever phone im getting by tomorrow =/ I would love to have this phone but tethering is a must
Just order it. There will be what you need.

I figured there will be, is there any real differences development wise between v
providers? And will the storage size matter?
Not really. The only differences lie between international and US. Storage size doesn't matter to me because I have a 32GB SD card and don't even have 48GB of media to lug around.

I have pre ordered the phone. Does anyone know about an extended battery that wont change the size of the phone? I know quite a few phones have them and I want to be able to use a standard case for the phone so any info on this would be great
due to the globalocity of the Rez and my VZW contract ending in April, I have purchased a T-Mobile Monthly SIM card online and will be trying out the data/call quality/etc. The plan I am eyeballing is $30 a month for unlimited data/text and 100 minutes.
After much searching, I am expecting that when I put this sim card in, 2 things will happen:
1. the superior radio and leaked global rom will allow me to get HSPA+ speeds on TMO network, make calls, send SMS/MMS, dance, and be merry.
2. once I re-insert my Verizon SIM card, it will be as if I never put the TMO card in, and my plan (including unlimited data) will remain intact.
are these the proper assumptions?
That would be nice, but unfortunately the Rezound radios have (so far) been unable to utilize the tmobile frequencies. Until it is figured out (it has been deemed impossible as yet) you will only be able to use edge network. Calling, sms, mms, and data all work. But data will be stuck at edge network.
The stock global leak may take some tinkering to get all parts working. I recommend a gsm compatible rom, as that will prove the least amount of effort on your end to get up and running.
Fair warning: edge network is usable.. But going from 25mbps to 120kbps is not a fun transition. I'm doing it myself, presently. Awesome devs for the Rez are the only things keeping me from buying a new phone that I can't afford.
Also, just to elaborate on going backward, as long as you don't port your number over (as that would cancel your vzw plan), you will be able to clean flash a cdma rom (or restore a nandroid) to get back on the Verizon network. I have yet to find a rom that allows both modes with everything working just from swapping the sim.

Gotta love TMo getting shafted, or rather shafting themselves, by operating on such an odd frequency in the US

I m using edge on GSM network , it not that bad for browsing , but yes for video streaming it sucks
I am currently on straight talk AT&T with nexus 4. I really love this device, however there service is not quite there yet. I used to be with Verizon and there service is great (you just pay way to much). I would be okay with 3g data speed.
So my question is how long have you been using the DNA with page plus and are you happy with them.
Is development still good with the DNA or are devs moving on?
Do you think it will at least be updated to 4.2?
Thanks everyone for your input.
Edit : what is a con off the DNA?

I can't help with page plus, I have T-Mobile. Perhaps not many do, hence no responses about it.

I'm currently with sprint/boost running a Samsung Galaxy S 3 but I had a chance to play with the At&t HTC one and I must say I'm impressed. Very very nice build quality but I can't get past the lack of removable battery and sdcard slot.
Here's my question, how many of you came from a Samsung device to the HTC one and are overall happy with there decision? 32gb is a lot of space but.....ya its not removable.
How hard is it to unlock the bootloader cause god knows at&t loves locking down there devices?

1. I had the SGS3 on AT&T and have been using my HTC One since May and I am still sitting on 12GB of free space.
2. Battery has been fine, I had to get my original one replaced through warranty because it kept locking up and the it wasn't properly aligned but the new one actually gives me a much better battery life. I went from 2 hr's screen @ 18 hr's used to almost 3 hr's screen at 20's used. Again I have work e-mail and security software installed on my phone which drains the battery a good amount.
3. Depending on what bootloader version you get with the new device you can either use Revone/Moonshine to unlock the bootloader or if you get a device with the newer bootloader you can still use HTCDEV to unlock it the official way through the manufacturer.

Well I decided not to go the route of at&t due to severely restricted data usage and way overpriced data plans. $90 for 6GB of data is pure greediness on at&ts part. I get truely unlimited data for $30 a month on sprint so it just makes no sense to move providers

Those are also terrible. Hate to say it, but to get good service you gotta pay. AT&T and Verizon are the 2 best. I travel constantly and have tried all the providers. AT&T is the best followed closely by Verizon. All the rest aren't worth a crap.

I collect almost every flagship device from the top OEMs and the HTC One is a huge upgrade from the S3. I've held a S3 today and it felt so horrible in my hands because I'm so used to holding this metal housing on my phone. And the difference in speed is crazy
If you plan on switching to AT&T you have the choice of a 32GB version or 64GB version. Plus cloud storage if you use Dropbox or Drive
And I think we have a AIO(All In One) toolkit now to make it even easier to unlock your bootloader

Pretty sure straight talk uses AT&T towers.
And in my opinion customer service is the biggest downfall of mvnos like straight talk. Go ahead and look up some reviews there are a ton of horror stories, people getting there service or data throttled or even cut off at arbitrary times, and not being able to get it straightened out. Eff that.

You can't expect good consumer service from prepaid providers. Just look at Metro PCS.. No disrespect but when I call consumer service I want someone who I can understand answering my questions
And Straight Talk uses AT&T and T-Mobile towers. You choose which carrier you want when buying the sim. They also support AT&T LTE now.

I'm tired of my phone lagging, freezing up and just being slow. Installing the fastboot files and starting over from a completely clean slate didn't fix my problems.
I wanna try Cyanogenmod 10 or even CM11 but I'm not sure if 11 is supported on the droid razr maxx and what doesn't work with it.
Can someone please tell me or point me to a thread of what's different between cm10 and cm11.
I saw an old post that said on cm10 the camera flash didn't work. Has this been fixed?
What doesn't work on cm11?
I haven't flashed a ROM in over two years and that was on my droid x. I flashed darkslide and a cyanogenmod ROM but I don't remember what one.
I've been eligible for an upgrade for a few months but I don't wanna lose my unlimited data.

Simply, CM 10 is Jelly Bean, and CM 11 is KitKat.
Spyder XT912 CDMA
CM11 Kitkat (OS 4.4.4). Pretty much everything works, at this point they are mainly adding features and working out the bugs. Some people still report having orange bars, APN issues, some audio issues and slow screen wakeup but those problems do not appear to be consistent and may depend on which nightly build they are running.
Most of the current ROM's seem to be running very well with few problems. There is of course CM11 and there are several other good ones.
Paranoid Android: the current version is streamlined and has few options, it looks and feels pretty close to stock android.
Liquid Smooth: the current version has lots of options, feels fast and smooth.
PACman: recently rebuilt and seems to be running well, it's a combination of features from multiple ROM's.
Other good ones include slimkat and carbon among others. There are some newer ROM's but some are still a little buggy.
So there are plenty to try out and play with to see which one suits your needs as far as features go. I use Safestrap which does provide multiple slots for ROM installation. You could always wipe the stock Verizon ROM but I like to keep it installed as a backup.
Good luck.
Please ensure you use the Question and Answer section to ask your questions.
Development is for the advance on development.
Thanks
Thank you both for the info. I'm charging my phone now and I'll try a rom or two later tonight or tomorrow. I had safestrap on my droid x but never used it. The last time I flashed a rom I had to use bootstrap recovery and flash a rom in recovery.

start with officialy supported custom rom for our razr, for example AOSPA and Cyanogenmod... or both at the same time since safestrap has multiple slots.
Does the mobile hotspot app work on cm? When I had safe strap installed, mobile hotspot wouldn't work and WiFi would only work when I'd reboot.
I removed recovery for now and I'll reinstall it and flash a ROM either tomorrow night or Saturday.
I was all set to do it today but I have to work a different shift tomorrow and don't want to have to worry about my alarm not going off and oversleeping.

You can kiss your unlimited goodby in October!
Its going to screw me over because dsl or cable is not on my area.

Well if they throttle me then they throttle me. I could probably get by on 4 gigs if I didn't tether as much and used my WiFi at home.
I tether because I have verizon dsl and it's as slow as molasses. I could get cable but that's kinda pricey and their rates keep going up.
I mainly use a lot of data at home during the week and hardly any on weekends.
I haven't gone over 20 gigs in a few months and I'm not doing too bad so far this month... just under 7 gigs.

Guess I will switch to the more everything plan at 10gigs of data for 3 smartphones for $160
Why stay with the unlimited when it cost more for less gigs.
Verizon says it will only throttle when you have used over 4.7 gigs & the tower you are on is congested.
This is bs, I have already been thru this a few years back with the 3g unlimited plan when it was throttled.
Either tower was always congested or Verizon just lied about it, I would say they lied.
The initial hardware cost is high, but Verizon thru Millenicom is $89.99 for 20gigs a month for 4g data hotspot only.
Satellite internet is really fast now with Exede but expensive, no cost for hardware but plans cost more.
