Little ashamed to admit it hut I have never actually backed up any phone I have owned. Atrix, vivid, s2 but I want to do right by this phone and downloaded titu. And online nandroid. From this point on I am a little lost as to how to back up my files. I am rooted but still haven't unlocked the bootloader the reason is I want to install the camera mod and have a backup incase anything goes wrong. When I downloaded online nandroid I could not get it to update and would not let me back up my phone do I need to be unlocked as well? Also is this any different from using titanium backup and or which one is better than the other

Well I got nandroid to update seems I didn't let busybox Install completely but still is this a better back up than Titu provides?

Nandroid backs up your current ROM configuration. So, however you have it set up, all apps, settings, etc, it remembers and will restore you to that same "image". TiBu is more for backing up and restoring apps, en masse. It also allows you to restore text messages, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings and a few other things. It gives you the ability to uninstall system apps with root or freeze them if you choose which its often safer until you figure out whether or not remove a system app will negatively affect stability. Hope this helps.

Is there any 2.3.x roms that will not start FCing like its their job after restoring thru TB? I've been using redux and just put a hole in my wall. I refuse to lose my apps and data.

I've had zero problem restoring my apps on 2.3, just don't restore any system data/apps and you should be fine.
Every single time I wait almost a full battery cycle to let everything settle in, then I only restore the crossed out apps that are strictly not system. Now I can't use my browser for more than 1 min. Facebook ****s out as soon as data starts pushing thru my phone. Xda seems fine. But still, the same damn problems. I have an older PM from Roman himself with his step by step method that I use everytime I flash anything cm7 based and this continues to happen. I'm about to blame it on my phones hardware and break this piece of **** in 2.

DONT RESTORE DATA! I DONT CARE IF IT IS NOT A SYSTEM APP! DO NOT RESTORE DATA!
TRY RESTORING APP ONLY. I BET MY 2 CENTS, NO FC's.
-Do a data/factory reset in recovery
-reboot
-RESTORE APPS ONLY
Lol. I literally would install 5 apps + data with 1 min intervals between each, then reboot and repeat. Took forever but everything is working A.O.K. I skipped swype though. I'm afraid of that *****. Yea I'm not clicking ur link there buddy, I know better. Never feed a troll.

I just went from System V to Trigger Redux (build 17). TB was not able to restore my WIFI access points or my bluetooth connections. I still have not figured out why.
BC they are linked to froyo and the "data" is not gingerbread compatable.

If you delete all the blur apps from your phone or flash a ROM that removed blur is there a easy to get it back?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
umm.. yeah...
Well... if you know the #1 rule to messing with your phone, is to ALWAYS do a backup of your system BEFORE you change anything on it...
Now, if you made a backup of your system before you remove blur apps or flash another ROM without Blur, then you can always go back to your OG settings from your backup....
Or... you can use adb to pull system/app & data/app for safe keeping before you go deleting things so you can always get the Blur stuff back...
I would also use Titanium Backup.. you can always freeze apps you don't want running as well..
There's no reason to delete anything stock off your phone.
Freeze them with Titanium Backup (which also hides them in the App drawer).
Too many times I see people deleting things, and then scrambling here looking for what they deleted because their phone crashes down the road when they change fw...

I'm just saying because I like the cm7 ROM but it doesn't have any blur and I just wanted to see if I could get some of my accounts back.

I'm just getting the hang of flashing ROMs and want to try CM7.
I'm on UnNamed now so I'm assuming all I have to do is:
1. go into CWM and complete a backup (done today)
2. go into CWM and do a wipe/factory reset
3. flash the CM7 and google apps from CWM
4. restore from the backup to get all my apps/settings back
Thanks for the support.
Of you do APPS AND DATA only without touching thru system data then yes.

Not sure what you mean by "apps and data" only. I just clicked backup in CWM and figured this back up everything. Are the steps I listed above incorrect?
When you select 'backup' in CWM it creates an entire copy of your system- your ROM, kernel,
Modem, and your Apps and settings. You got the right idea of how to go from ROM to ROM but if you hit restore in recovery you'll just end up flashing back to CM7. nyamoV2 was referring to titanium backup which is used for backing up Apps and settings. I don't use it but from what I gather you never want to restore system data with it. But can be used to back up Apps. Although upon signing into Google market your Apps start downloading again anyway. Its good to make backups in recovery in case something goes wrong flashing a new ROM or theme or whatever.
Accidentally hit 'thanks' trying to modify my post LOL oops

You gotta get the pro version.. It lets you run a batch of ALL your apps instead of doing it 1 by 1

God I keep hitting the wrong button
Anyway, that's odd. I'm usually running CM7 as my daily driver and never had any data speed issues. Some users have changed their APN's and that seems to help. I did at one point but reverted back. Oh well

I always do a backup with nandroid if I'm looking to save the rom I'm currently running. Then after that I do a wipe/factory reset then also a format /system. Then install the new rom. Always has worked perfectly.
CM7
is this rom better then unnamed of MiUI?
It seems as if every time I flash a new ROM and try restoring my applications, data, and settings, something ALWAYS goes wrong or doesn't restore correctly.
What is the right way to use TiBu and/or how do YOU use it from backup to satisfied restore?

I only backup user apps and data, and all is fine time after time. Whenever I experience unexpected behavior is when I do that with system apps and data.

Yeah. Like he said... I'm always afraid to try new ROMs because I'm afraid I'll end up screwed. People here tlak about baouncing back and forth like it's no big deal, but when I've tried it I seem to end up having to start from scratch.
Hi all,
Is there a way to backup the Sense Launcher Icons/Folder/Widgets besides using another launcher like Go, Nova, or Apex?
I found a post somewhere that says to backup "launcher.db" in /Data/Data/com.android.launcher/databases but I could not find com.android.launcher/databases on the ROM i've installed.
I hate having to redo my icons/folders/widgets when installing a ROM and having to do a full wipe.
I have Titanium Backup but I've read from some posts that suggests not using it for this purpose.
Thanks for any suggestion..
I can't confirm if backing up the data base will work but I know that e.s. file explorer will get you there. Install it give it root permissions and go back it up.
No. Unless you do a full NANDROID backup, everything will reset. Hornet, if you use any launcher other than sense, you will retain everything.

When i switch roms I restore all my apps then i go into tb there is a green high lighted backup that says HTC Sence desktop hit restore data on that and all my folders and icons and most widgets restore back to where they were, the only widgets that don't never restore for me is power control and power amp for some reason.
Don't forget to go in tb and back it up before you wipe all your data.

I used to use titanium then switched to my backup pro and have great results obviously as long as I am using the same ROM or base to backup the screens etc. I switched to nova and that backup restore works great again for using on the same ROM or base.
