Well, you didn't say what version you have, why you are trying to disable the check or what you may have tried already, so Google is probably your best bet for finding an answer under the circumstances.

The OP of this thread started two other threads for the exact same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096556

Between these three threads you can kind of piece together what the OP's issue is.

And what is the issue if I may ask?

it seems CWM didn't properly back up all the data when he made the back up.

The "issue" = the fact that you cannot restore your backup. Just trying to help, no need for hostility. Try using 4ext, like someone in your other thread already suggested to you.

I dont use an Evo 3d so I don't know, does he need a specific 4ext for the Evo 3d? could you possibly supply a link he can read up on to use 4ext? He can restore his back up but not everything from his backup he made, the phone will boot and everything its not just the way he backed it up, when it boots its like he booted into a fresh install. He basically wants all his game data and text messages and customizations etc. back the way he had when he made the back up.

a simple search on XDA turned this link up. install any old ROM, install the free 4ext app, and use the app to install the 4ext recovery. After that, reboot and try to restore your backup.
In the future, use the app called Titanium Backup to backup all your apps and data, so that if anything like this happens again, you can easily install a new ROM, then restore each one of your apps and all of your data. Good luck OP.

Sorry if I seemed hostile, you have been a great help, unlike some other users on here! Anyway, I downloaded Titanium Backup and it claims my device is not rooted.

Which ROM are you running currently? Also, are you s-on or s-off?

Old question but i was struggling with this problem myself today as my samsung galaxy trend plus+clockwork mod refused to
recover any backup images by saying "md5 mismatch error" on every image.
The solution is very simple and doesnt require any adb debugging..
edit "nandroid.md5" file in the backup directories, clear all the text and save it as empty.
Do NOT delete the file, but instead save it as empty or if it doesn't exist, create the file and leave it empty.
then try restoring the backups, clockwork mod will bypass the md5 check, and restore the backup.

I'm sorry I don't have cwm.... But any recovery I've used has had an option to disable the check in the advanced settings.

[Q] Update Error

I've tried over and over to update this thing. I've searched around, tried to do the undo webtop mod with no luck. Factory reset it twice. I'm still on the original software that came on it and want to update really bad.
It gets about 1/5 through and goes to the ! android guy. When I pull up the recovery menu after the ! guy it gives an error with AppandSyncsettings.apk...any help would be greatly appreciated.
So I guess my question is has anyone else experienced this/know the solution?
Thanks
You need to sbf first.
Thanks! Do you have a link to that file? And is there anyway to back up my info?

I use Titanium Backup. Make sure you transfer the backup files to your ext or comp or dropbox, that way you can always get it back.

The most likely reason you can't get through the update is because you have either frozen or deleted one of the original Motorola apps. This will always stop future updates. If you did freeze any apps, unfreezing/thawing prior to updating will allow you to update without flashing a sbf. If you deleted files/apps, then you definitely have to flash sbf as was stated by WiredPirate.

+1 for freezing/deleting will fail the update.
I havnt done the webtop mod but I was assuming that was what was causing the moto check to fail. Do you know if that is a fair assumption or if anyone has reported succesfully updating with that mod enabled?

[Q] Troubles booting after installing BusyBox

I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

Lol accidentally given a thanks but eh, doesn't matter.
You'll need to reinstall, since you have no backup to work with and we don't have a flashable zip of the WIND system files for ya, sorry.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?
Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.

recovery/backup

Ok i have a a few backups and i need to see whats on them, i know unyaffs-x86-win but that disnt show what i want it to.. is there an emulator where i can restore from backup.. all my 4g evo are broke, which is what the backups are from.. i have a 3d, can i restore it on that? what are my options..
You could restore your og backups onto your 3d if you want to risk bricking your phone.
The recovery I use compresses the backup as a tarball file so you could try to open it with something like 7zip. Never tried it myself, so reply back with how it goes.

It will read the DATA backup but whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL SYSTEM APP's you will screw up your rom. Yes System app's will be listed in the data backup.
What I was talking about if you were not using a market text messaging app then you wont be able to get the texts back.

[Q] Question about 4ext recovery and nandroid backup

Background:
Hboot 1.58
S-off
Cool ICS rom flashed.
Question: I finally found a ROM that I like and have customized it with he programs and settings i usually use. If i do "backup" (from the "backup and restore" option within the 4ext recovery) what exactly will it back up? If my phone crashes will I be able to recover from this saved file and have the phone EXACTLY as is? (Anotherwords, all settings, apps, texts, call history etc will be restored?)
That is what I'm looking for. Hopefully this will do this.
Thank you in advance.
Yes, nandroid does a complete backup of everything
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )

What ROM are you backing up? The reason I'm asking is because I might have seen that backing up a specific ROM before.
Go to the 4EXT tools menu after the error occurs and select "copy recovery.log to SD card" then retrieve the recovery.log file from the /sdcard/4ext directory and post it here as an attachment and we may be able to tell you more.

ramjet, sorry it took me a while to reply (i was away on vacation)
so i decided to do another backup (not advanced just regular to save all my info (sms, system settings, everything) since I had installed other apps since my initial post)
and appears that the problem fixed itself No error messages
Attached is the copy of the latest log (blow) so now if I crash in the future i'll get the phone exactly as it as of today....right?
minor issue after backup: a few apps , such as the XDA app have become Android icons and when clicked say "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone" any idea why this happened?
Ahh i had the phone plugged in as USB device..once unplugged issue is resolved.

Yes, it is. Just go to "Recovery/Manage your backups" then press on the name of the backup and the delete option should be there. You can also rename or restore them that way.

YES, If you do a nandroid back-up, when you restore it your phone will be EXACTLY like it was at the time of the back-up, I do it all the time trying new roms and such....if I dont like the rom, I simply restore and it was like nothing was ever changed...
About backups made using 4EXT Recovery
I discovered that when you make a backup using 4EXT, that it puts the files in a sub folder on the SD card in "ClockworkMod" (interesting, eh--thought it would be "4ext"). So let's just say for argument's sake that you've replaced the bootloader and lost 4EXT Recovery. All you have is ClockworkMod recovery. Can CWM use that backup to restore your system?

Same thing happens if you have moved apps to SD and don't back up the secure android SD folder or don't restore it.

Going from Stock to CM. Storage vanishes.

I'm trying to set up my girlfriends S3, but I have an issue.
When on stock rom, I can see the titanium backup folder with all the backups. In fact all the folders are there, SMS backups, images etc.
Since going to Cm10.1, the folders are gone. I used droid explorer to see if I've missed it. I made a folder in Cm10 called tester.
It appears 3 times now. And I have no idea where all my other files are. It's like it's blank.
But, if I restore back to stock, it's all there. Annoying.
I only installed 1 custom ROM. From what I know, you have to wipe your phone completely before the flashing process. I have smooth ROM installed on my nexus 7, works perfectly!
So I THINK if you want to install a custom ROM the right way, you have to wipe anyway..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
The thing is, this worked before. I had a slight problem finding the files, but I have installed CM before on this, and never had this issue.
I could copy the files to my PC, wipe the phone and copy them back, but if I have to restore to the stock backup I made, it's going to break a lot of things surely?
Guys, seriously - this is asked every day.

It worked great. But there is one issue. Titanium backup works great, but if I connect my phone to PC, the storage is the blank set of folders. Gallery cannot find any pictures either. I've followed the instructions to the letter.
If I open File Manager, it shows me the 0 directory full of my files as it should, but on my PC or in the gallery it finds nothing but empty folders.
Try wiping data on the gallery app, in case something was restored from titanium perhaps.
I don't connect to a Windows PC regularly myself, so I'm not sure about that one. Have you rebooted since?

Wiping gallery data did the trick, thanks. Not sure why connecting to the pc shows empty folders.
It means I Can't save my camera photos, or add new roms to install in the future. Most puzzling.
Have you rebooted?
Infact reboot the PC too, whilst not connected to each other.
Sorry, yes I have. In fact, going into recovery after following the instructions and my backups are no there. Or rather "no files found". Using CWM Recovery v6. I've also lost my sms backup files. I can't even go back to stock if I wanted to.

As per my other thread, some recoveries still use the old location /data/media (which is really poor from those recoveries). To be clear, this is the recoveries fault for not keeping up with the times.
If you needed to restore from one of those recoveries, you would need to move the clockworkmod folder back. Or you could flash Philz recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953
...which has a toggle to change to /data/media/0 to pick up 4.2 locations.
So to be clear, you have not lost anything. Everything is there. I don't know what sms backup app you have, but everything should just work. The apps all look for /sdcard (so they don't need to know if it is /data/media or /data/media/0) so as long as your data is in the right place, there shouldn't be an issue.
Some of these issues you're having (forgetting recovery) could be a result of a titanium backup restore. Perhaps you need to wipe the device from recovery and get things working without data that could be skewing the truth
