Hello all!
My HTC evo 4g lte will not boot into recovery! I recently flashed CM 10.0 and am now trying to boot back into TWRP recovery but with no such luck. I have tried all of the standard procedures (i.e. turn off, hold volume down and power...and reset to recovery via CM) and none of them seem to work. The phone just gives up and boots normally. I need to flash gapps but can't! Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

are u s-on or s-off? my quess your s-on
Correct...I am s-on at the moment.
is there an easy way to go S-off using a mac or is that even necessary?
s-off makes thing alot easier.. dont think u can on a mac tho?? i mite be wrong.. check the dirty racun thread out.. i kno on aosp rom if your s-on u have to flash the kernel spearate.. that mite be messing u up.. i would try and get s-off if i was u..
Best bet would be to run a copy of ubuntu live distro and following the directions for dirty racun
if your S-on it does depend on whether which hboot your running. i was running 1.12 hboot for the longest time without any problems. i just kept flashing and flashing no problems. if your on 1.15+ then yea s-off does help because you can flash stuff more easily.
as to your not being able to enter Twrp have you tried fastbooting and re installing TWRP? thats probably a last ditch effort though.
When your turning it on and holding the volume down button does it enter the boot menu and you just select recovery and it just doesnt go into TWRP or can you not even get into the boot selection area?

Try to boot to the bootloader first. Then select recovery. To get to the bootloader, hold power button down until screen shuts off, then hold down power plus volume down until bootloader screen comes up.

Thanks for all of your replies! I can get into bootloader although it is through a round about way...I have to first restart the device...let it start the rom and then hard reset it while holding volume down. Once in bootloader I am still unable to get into recovery. I have managed to get into recovery on a one time basis by re-flashing TWRP...however this only works once before I am unable to get back into recovery mode.
I do have Hboot 1.19...and I am guessing it is more difficult to get s-off with that new of a version but I will look into the dirty racun thread...
thanks again guys...any more direction would be appreciated!

So, back in da bootloader, what happens if you select recovery?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
It acts like its going to continue on into recovery but then gives up and boots like normal...I also noticed that my mobile network no longer works...perhaps thats a separate issue. I need to look into it a bit further...

So I unlocked using the HTC method, and then rooted the phone. I downloaded MIUI for Evo 3d, I went into bootloader (volume down and power) and I installed MIUI. So apparently I really messed up, and now I'm stuck in MIUI bootloop. I have no way to get back into Android.. I can't even use my phone at all. I remove the battery, put back in then hold down volume down and power. I get into the menu and choose recovery but it just boots back into the MIUI thing. How can I get back to android? I'm really worried here Did I mess up beyond repair? I'm freaking out.. I've posted on a few forums but no one has gotten back to me yet. I really hope someone here knows what to do, thanks.

If you're on hboot 1.5, and did not follow these instructions, then that is why. Follow that and you should be good.

I did use these instructions. Should I just go through those again?
Your obviously not following the instructions. hold volume down and power.. then go into fastboot. Plug in your phone and now it should say fastboot usb. From the command prompt navigate to the folder where you have teh fastboot and adb files. then type fastboot boot recovery.img
Recovery being the name of the recovery file in that folder "CWM****.img. Once you do that it will boot into clockwork recovery giving you fill access to write to the kernal. Now you need to flash the ROM of your choice.
I followed your steps. I am now at the teamwin recovery screen and menu. I went to my nandroid backup and am now installing this. I hope it works. I appreciate you help by the way and you were right, I guess I did overlook the step you mentioned
I am using hasoon2000's HTC Rezound All in One Kit, I followed the instructions per the forum / video that was posted. When the phone boots up I try using the Barnicle Wifi tether, and it says device isnt rooted, i go into bootloader and it says my device is "unlocked". I have no idea what to do to get it "rooted" or how to get this crap to work.. i have spent two days working on this and i can't get it... can someone please help me.

now you need to install amonra recovery then go into amonra recovery and select developer menu and select install su then reboot.
amonra recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=1339679
I flashed the recovery via the all in one kit, it was amonra 3.15 (BG/ICS) Btw im running ics leak if that helps. (im a noob at this stuff, sorry ) where do i see amonra recovery?
Turn off phone, hold down volume and power... it'll boot to fastboot. Select "BOOTLOADER" using the rocker and power button. Then select recovery. It'll reboot the phone to AmonRa.
Edit*
If you've already RUU'd to the ICS leak, you may as well just get one of the many great ICS ROMs (scott, jolez, and bored are my favorites) and flash that while you are in recovery. You'll be glad you did. From then on you can reboot straight to recovery with the extended shutdown menus.
Where can i download those roms at?

The phone has been running flawlessly for a while and now randomly it won't boot up, or when it does it hits the HTC boot screen and shuts back off. Any suggestions? The charging light comes sometimes, even after the battery is pulled. I have tried different batteries but to no avail.
are you running a custom rom? if so which? and which recovery are you using? and what carrier is your amaze from..? can you boot into the bootloader? have you tried flashing back to STOCK or flashing a different rom from recovery? or reflashing the same rom?

All this info is needed if you expect any help. Pull battery, put it back in then hold volume down, press power while still holding vol down and it should boot into bootloader. If it does that there should be a way to fix it.

Custom Rom, Speed Rom 7.x (I don't remember version, this is my sister's device). Recovery = CWM, Carrier = Wind, Device barely responds so haven't tried bootloader. Can't access recovery since it barely boots.
Dont ever use cwm with this phone its recommended 4ext if u have s-on and my personal favorite twrp if u have s-off

Does 4Ext come with the toolkit or have I got to find it myself? And also what is the difference betweeen S-On and S-Off? I read a thread about it but I still don't really understand it...
Edit... Can't boot into Bootloader, pretty sure it's bricked. Thanks for all the help guys. This thing lasted a good year. Limited to 8 thanks a day, so I'll be back later to deliver.

yes 4ext comes with the toolkit, and s-on lets you flash different radio's and stock ruu's for other carries.. it makes it easier to rewrite the protected system partitions of the phone.. and sorry to hear about that, maybe you can look online for ways to fix a corrupted hboot or bootloader

The S3 is 10x easier when it comes to rooting and flashing. This one was a pain for me. Toolkit at the time was still in very early stages so it was somewhat hard, and drivers were having problems as well.
On another update the phone appears to be booting to the HTC bootscreen and then freezing up. What's bad is I can't control the reboot, meaning I can't put it into bootloader.

Hi, i was trying to install a custom rom , (king kobra 3d 1.6) and after i installed my phone went into a boot loop and would just restart every time i tried to boot. When i hold vol down+ power i can access hboot but if i choose recovery my phone just reboots and goes into a boot loop again. Ive searched all over the internet but couldn't find anyone with the same kind of problem. Can someone help me, i just started using android not long ago so im a complete noob at this.
Things ive tried...
Using another battery/charging from a computer
doing a factory reset from hboot but this didnt work and my phone just rebooted.
ps ive heard you can do something with hboot to get recovery back but ive no idea what to do.
Any help would be really appreciated thanks.

Plug up to the computer and put it in fastboot usb, Download you a recovery and rename it to recovery put it in a directory with fastboot and open a command prompt
type "fastboot flash recovery recovery recovery.img"
That should fix you up.
The fastboot recovery flash will work if you can do it properly. You could also drop the recovery.img into a zip file, call it PG86IMG.zip and toss it on the root of the sdcard, then flash it via hboot, you'd need a SD card reader or another device to copy the zip image there, but same outcome.
I was rooting my uncle's Evo 4g lte because I had rooted my S3 recently and was feeling like everything, I manged to root the evo but I forgot to Wipe everything before flashing Cyanogenmod 10 and now when it load it shows the Cyanongenmod start up in a loop. I've looked through the forum for many different solution and nothing has seem to work can someone one please help me? If anything can someone help me get back to stock Android frimware/

Read this guide and it will tell you how to fasboot flash the boot.img

On another note if his phone is on the latest OTA 3.16.651.3 you can't run any CM,AOSP,AOKP roms because HTC updated the touch panel drivers and the screen won't work on those roms the way to tell is if his baseband ends with 1210 you can find it by going to settings/about/software info/more
