I'm struggling to find a good website that has a listing of all roms available for each android device. I have found theunlockr.com, but it doesn't even have the ROM i'm currently using!
Does what I'm looking for exist?
Thanks,
Simple answer is no there is no such site. Mainly due to the nature of custom roms. They change sometimes many times a day and just downloading and installing a ROM without doing the proper research is just stupid.

Hello everyone,
most recently I have updated my Hero to the new ROM supplied by the fellows at HTC (the 2.73... I think). Then I remembered that on my HTC S710 I used to have a rom that came from here. So, I took a look. I have a couple of questions. Oh, let me also tell you that I have rooted my phone (I think, with Instant Root).
So these are my questions:
What do you think is the best rom available?
And why? What are its advantages to a 'normal' HTC Rom?
As a beginner, I can look over this forum for hours (I did!) but still miss out on this answer!
there is no answer to this question, that's why.
It's like asking which is better, up or down?
Everyone will prefer a different ROM for different reasons. get your device flashed to the new recovery image and then you can try all the ROMS and decide for yourself what the 'best' one is.
Personally i stick with the generic ROMs and haven't used the modaco custom ROMs yet as i am happy with the way the device works and not in need of all the hacks that other people want as i rarely use them.
you may be different.
try them all and decide for yourself.
Hm. Yes, I like the way you are thinking - and heck, it is the second time you've given me a great reply! I'll go out and tinker with the world, and more specific: with ROMs! Although I have no idea what flashing my device to a new recovery image means, I do remember having to do something similar with my S710. And I am sure I will find an explanation here! Who knows, pherhaps in a short while, I will answer my own questions!
There aren't many customised ROMs for the Hero yet, partly because the source code isn't available yet from HTC, so the ones that do exist are based on versions of the HTC ROMs.
Use Flashrec and install the awesome modified cyanogen recovery image, then you can flash one of the ROMs. I chose the stock UK ROM pre-rooted, from MoDaCo's site (not the MoDaCo customised ROM though).
It's convenient because it is pretty much the stock experience, except it's pre-rooted which makes some other things possible.

Hey, I upgraded from a S710 to a Hero as well. I'm very happy with having done that as the Hero is such a better phone!
Anyway. Flashing a new recovery image is one one of these 'tinkering' things you/we have to get used to when playing with ROMs. Essentially the recovery image is a very basic control on the phone that you can reboot into, from where you can update the ROM or do total system backups. You can read about how to do this in MoDaCo's custom ROM thread in the android development section. Flashing a new recovery image and new ROM isn't too hard really; took me at most a couple of hours.
I've just started using CM9 again haven been on stock Samsung ROMs for most of my S3 usage. I remember seeing something on Twitter about custom ROMs now supporting OTA In Android and assumed that CM9 would be one of the first ROMs to use it. I don't see I anywhere though. Is it not built into the latest Cyanogenmod ROMs out of the box (as it were)?
If not, why not? I would have expected every custom ROM to have this as part of their package. I love OTA updates and having them in a custom ROM will make the experience seem so much more professional.
Just intrigued, chaps. It's not the end of the world but I was kind of expecting to see it. I tried downloading what appears to be the official app but when I try to install it it says that the developer hasn't added support for it. Which I suppose does answer my question but doesn't provide a reason!
Thanks anyway.
So I bought a Velocity Cruz T410 because it was cheap and did what I needed at the time. But now that I don't really need it for work, I want to do more with it.
Does anybody know how I could go about creating/finding a custom ROM for it? I've spent the last week or so searching Google and other forums for this information but I haven't found anything yet.
Velocity Micro Customer Service has told me that this device is capable of running ICS but they aren't planning on updating it that far. I'd really like to try developing ROMs and such for this device but don't really know where to start.

Hi!
I have the T408 and has been checking the Internet for about two months for a custom ROM. Please let me know if you do find a custom ROM for your device & I'll do the same for you if I find one for mine as I believe the software would work for both.
Now, let me tell you what I learned so far:
Rooting the device is the first step you have to do.If you haven't done it, check what rooting means at this link (I'm not allowed to post the full links as I'm new to the website)
info.org/root.html
To root the Cruz, check these links: androidforums.com/velocity-micro-cruz-tablet-t408/439932-easy-way-root-velocity-cruz-tablet-t408.html
& youtube.com/watch?v=8envovRmNCw
I used the 2nd one with success & installed the recommended apps.
To install the Android market, check these links: senk9.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/how-to-install-google-apps-gapps-on-your-android-device-phone/
& youtube.com/watch?v=JM_D1YwGtbk
Hope this helps. Don't forget to tell me if you find the Custom ROM!.
Dead thread?
I have a T410 and have been rooted for some time now. I search often for custom ROMs and other tweaks for the tablet but have come up empty handed. Is this another dead T410 thread?

Pretty much
Hello everyone,
I am a new Galaxy S4 owner. I would like to root my phone and install a custom rom on it.
Could you recommend a rom? I know there are many developers who have created roms already but I would like some personal advise from people who have flashed various roms already and tried them out.
My preferences are:
1. I want the phone to be stable. I don't want to continually flash different roms. I want one that is free of bugs (mostly, at least), polished and able to be run long term without significant problems or limitations.
2. Personally, I am not a huge fan of TouchWiz and a rom based on the "Google Edition", with a straight and clean Android OS would be preferred. But I would like to retain as many features of the S4 as possible, from the Camera features to the touted (in commercials) S4 apps, at least the ones that would have any value and are not just junk.
3. I don't know much about Kernals, modems and different apps that I could potentially use. If you could recommend some of these I would appreciate it as well.
I did recently update the software on the phone. I asked this in another thread, but does this limit my ability to root? Is there a workaround?
Thanks for the help.

If you took the OTA update then you are stuck for the time being. You can get root, but no custom recoveries or ROMS.
That said, there is at least one GE ROM running around, but I've not really looked at them as I'm trying TW out for a change.

1) READ. Pick some roms that seem interesting to you and test drive them. Your basic "pick a rom for me" query is strongly frowned upon and will result in a thread lock. Don't expect to be spoonfed- It's a subjective query that only you can answer for yourself. I suspect that the reason it wasn't locked is that you lack the ability to flash any roms, thus rendering your query moot.
2) See 1.
3) Also see 1.
Of course, all this is moot, as you apparently didn't read the multitude of posts regarding the ME7 update that you took. You no longer have the ability to flash custom roms, recoveries, or kernels. Perhaps you missed the very prominent thread in General offering a $3,000 bounty for root and recovery? All you can do is a basic root, a few mods, and use some apps that require root access.
yes unfortunately if you took the dreaded over the air update you can no longer install a custom recovery which is needed for installing any custom rom, There really is a lot you can do with a stock rooted phone like remove the annoying bloatware and back up your apps with titanium!!

Heya there!
I've searched for hours now and found just a few ****ty looking ones...
Yes, I know this is a cheap China phone and I should not expect much from such a thing.
But I've read that somehow CyanogenMod was working on a port for the S7589? I'm not sure tho, I've searched for it but found, as said, nothing...
I already was at the NeedROM site and searched for ROMs there too but every ROM is just... Meh...
They do not look trustworth enough to be fully happy with them... (And all of them seem to have the same, weird instructions...)
So do you guys know if there is any good Custom ROM for this device? Maybe even one that gives the possability to skip the Internal Storage and let's me install directly onto SD/Phone Storage?
Thanks!
