You can make your own system dump. Download .587 ftf and keep it in firmwares. Then open it with winrar and extract system.sin. Then Open flashtool and go to SIN Editor under tools (be sure that you are in advanced mode under the file menu). Then select the system.sin in firmwares and press dump data. Then under tools menu, go to extractors---> Yaffs2. Go to the firmwares folder. You will find only one file. Select that and wait until the data extraction in finished. Done!! Then go to the firmwares folder and look for a folder call "system_content". It will work for all 2011 Xperia devices.
Press the Thanks button if I helped.

You can extract a yaffs2 file using flashtool itself. Go to tools---->Extractors----->Yaffs2. Choose the yaffs2 file and begin the dumping process. You will get a folder called "system_content" which is the entire system folder of the stock rom. I have confirmed that this works.

Okep. I assume you have the latest FlashTool installed already...
1) Get this (SEUS) : http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/sony_ericsson/models/seus/7572.html
2) Flash your phone with the latest software available using SEUS.
3) Go to C:\Program Files\Sony Ericcson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs\
4) Copy the 2 largest files you'll find there to C:\Flashtool\leajian (I assume you created there a folder called leajian)
5) Run FlashTool
6) Click Advanced > Decrypt Files
7) Source folder : C:\Flashtool\leajian
8) From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Files to convert
9) Click OK
10) Wait patiently till it finishes...
11) From Folder list, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Firmware content
12) If it is ICS, tick the Disable Final Verification Check
13) On Device write the model [ex. Xperia Neo V (MT11i)], on Version write the firmware version and/or the Android version [ex. 4.1.A.0.562 (ICS_4.0.3)], on Branding write the region and your name if you wish [ex. Greek (by Leajian)].
14) Click OK
15) On Device Selection choose the device it is for (ex. MT11i)
16) Wait very patiently...
17) When it finishes the .ftf file is located on C:\Flashtool\firmwares
18) SHARE IT ON XDA!!!

Check this folder only after a complete flash via SEUS. After that the two big files we want are named after like this "FILE_XXXXXXXXXX" where X are some numbers.

Differs and may confuse users who are not that familiar with this stuff... :/
The third file you copy is small, around 64KB, that's the loader.sin which is automatically merged to FTF by Flashtool, when you specify the device of the FTF.
ok and now what with this file: simlock.ta
we need it?

Personally I prefer to include it, because it was shipped and that's why it has to be on an official FTF.
I haven't tested if needed or not, but I think it's not necessary.

You don't need it.
But we can't create backup if updated is available for FS, right?
I had stock gingerbread and when I tried to back it up I didn't see any repair option in SUS as ICS was available for my phone at that time.

Well.. Before there wasn't problems by flashing that file, but in ICS era some reports having problems by locking their phones.
Few latest versions of flashtool disregard that file during flash process. I believe those users(who had problems) didn't use latest version and simlock.ta file got flashed. I'm not 100% but I believe so.
Btw, .ta file is tricky file, you can mess up your phone if you mess up with it. One guy did it with his Xperia S, that's why flashtool guys made it disregard that file.

F*ck logic, ask Sony! xP

If you have stock gingerbread System.sin then extract it using "aIUP.exe" and use following command "aIUP.exe system.sin 2048 system" (you can use value 4096 or 8192 instead of 2048). and if you have ICS system.sin then extract it using Flashtool, for that open flashtool>Advance>sin editor, select system.sin file and click on Dump data you can use this for gingerbread also.

SO which file do i put in my working folder in kitchen ??
Hello everyone. I have gone through some guides relating to ftf to zip conversion.. They helped me a lot when I needed to tweak Stock ROM for my Neo L.. Thanks to all of them.. The process of this is quite lengthy for those who do not have Sony Xperia phones.. For the people with Sony Xperia phones, we have a flashtool which makes this process easier... I will be covering about extracting system.sin file and extracting it using the flashtool....
For this you need Flashtool. Go to http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1363896068000.. Under 'Installation' tab, download the latest version of flashtool.. Install it to root of any drive so that it can be easily accessed... Now let us get to work...
NOTE: 1. This guide is only for SONY XPERIA phones which are supported by the flashtool provided in the above link...
2. DO NOT CONNECT YOUR PHONE WHILE DOING THIS METHOD....
A. Extracting system.sin from ftf file (ftf file is a stock firmware file.. Download the required fif file from xda)
1. Go to the folder where you installed flashtool.. In that there will be 'firmwares' folder.. Place your ftf file in it..
2. Now open the flashtool and click on the lightning button..
3. When you click on the lightning button, it will show flashmode and fastboot options. Select flashmode..
4. The ftf file which you placed in the 'firmwares' folder will now appear.. Select it.. Don't do any changes, just press OK..
5. Flashtool will prepare files for flashing and displays a dialogue box asking you to connect your phone..
6 Do not connect your phone.. Just leave that dialogue box like that.. DO NOT CLOSE IT..
7. Now go to the 'firmwares' folder.. A new folder with the name 'prepared' will appear..
8. Open it and your system.sin file will be present.. Copy it and paste it somewhere else..
B. Extracting the system folder from system.sin
1. Close the dialogue box which asks you to connect your phone.. Flashing will be cancelled..
2. Go to 'Tools' menu and select 'SIN editor'..
3. Browse to the system.sin file and select dump data.. You will get two files with 'yaffs2' extension.. Neglect the smaller one..
4.. Go to 'Tools' menu and select 'Extractors'.. Under this select 'yaffs2'..
5. Browse to the system.yaffs2 file and select OK.. That's it... You have the system folder with you.. customize whatever you want and combine with the META-INF folder and zip it...
Hit thanks if it helped you... Any suggestions or questions are welcome...

About the tool:
This tool converts your FTF to a flashable rooted ROM in a few simple steps. Simple batch scripting has been used to make this.
How to use?(Will add screenshots soon)
1. Download and extract the f2z.zip
2. Now place your ftf in ftf folder
3. Now click RunMe.bat and press enter and let the tool do it's work.
4. Now select a compression size b/w 2048, 4096 and 8192 and press ENTER. I recommend using 4096 for ICS and 2048 for
GB.
5. Now the tool will do some final work. Do all the changes you want in your ROM by going to /system folder when prompted to do so.
6. Now press ENTER and the 7z window will open and compress your ROM. After it's done find your rooted, flashable ROM in rom folder.

Doesn't work on "st15a" GB 4.0.2.A.0.62 .ftf file
Hello,
Thanks for the tool, however it doesn't work with "st15a" GB 4.0.2.A.0.62 .ftf...I have tried multiple compression values without success...it tries and sets up several empty directories, but there is an error that occurs and it goes to the next screen too quick for me to see the error.
This "st15a" .ftf is viable however with these "a" model firmwares there have been many incompatible programs (I am not sure why) and the "i" versions work without a hitch. Case in point...the readily available "One Click Root" works perfectly with "i" version models but the "a" versions do not work no matter how many times that are tried.
I am running Windows XP SP3.
Thanks so much for your effort though...I have been wanting to get this firmware rooted as a backup for my st15a and nothing seems to work.
Thanks again.
Do you know the steps to do it mannually? If yes pm me or aj the steps and any one will check whether the tool does that or not.
About the error try printscreening it

Hello
Does this tool work otherwise? Meaning convert a flashable . Zip into . Ftf?
Sent from my A0001
The reason behind to post this guide, if you had forgotten to make backup before flashing any mod. you don't need to write a post for getting the files of stock one.
you can get it from your ftf file and drag n drop into that flashable.zip which one you applied.
&
Rom porter can easily get the system dump.....
Before going to proceed this tutorial you need
your desired ftf file which you want to extract.
winrar
Flashtool
ext4_unpacker [ attached ]
Instructions:
First,
open your ftf file via winrar and get the system.sin file.
Second,
open Flashtool
go to Tools -> Sin Editor
click on '...' button
open the system.sin
click 'Dump data' button
wait untill flastool shows 'Data Extraction finished'
Note: the below method depends on which one you get. 1st one is for yaffs2 & 2nd one is for ext4
Third,
open Flashtool
go to Tools -> Extractors -> yaffs2
open system.yaffs2
extraction will start
wait untill flashtool shows 'Extraction finished'
now you get the system dump.
for system.ext4
open ext4_unpacker
click on the 'folder icon'
open system.ext4
select all
click right button of mouse
click Extract
select the destination folder where the files of system.ext4 will be extracted
Done
sorry, for my bad presentation
if it helps you don't forget to click on thanks button.

Xperia C - Updated
Hi mates,
Would it be possible for anyone to upload a CWM flashable Xperia C ROM with the latest update of 16.0.B.2.13 because I cannot really extract the folders from system.ext4. I have tried using all version of flashtool by androxyde and unyaffs. Even did the unpacking through cmd (aIUP.exe) but still no lack.
Or maybe someone can suggest better and updated reader for ext4. Thanks!
Sorry guys, it seems the ftf file was signed by sony that is why its hard to extract the EXT4 extension

Hi mates,
Would it be possible for anyone to upload a CWM flashable Xperia C ROM with the latest update of 16.0.B.2.13 because I cannot really extract the folders from system.ext4.

This method is successful for ICS but not working on JB 4.2.2.

For 'unknown file format' error in ext4extractor : Use this software to open the system.ext4 file - Diskinternals Linux Reader here: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
