I just bought Sony Xperia U, and I want to transfer songs and stuff etc... But the thing is it does not support memory card so how do I transfer files to internal memory? I mean with USB connection with PC, I don't see any mass storage type option on connection
Coz I it is connected as mtp
Just connect it
Let drivers install by themselves on pc (win7 is best)
And then go to my computer
And see u have a Xperia u icon there

May you use Sony companies and open folder through it

Try these!
Step 1
Settings>Xperia>install pc companion> make sure its ticked
Connect usb to.your phone and computer! A dialog prompt would open on your xu asking for installation of pc companion. Click install and let the process finish! Then open pc companion and you'll be able to transfer songs, videos etc.
Step 2
Directly connect usb. Wait for sometime open my computer and your device will pop up

I prefer using Total Commander and TotalAndroid plugin.
The computer detect your device as media portable...

I tried but there is any similar choise to this to pick. Any suggestion more? I forgot I use W7 x64.
I´m new to this Mtp thing. I had a HOX until now and that was a breeze there.
So how is everybody copying files (non-media files) to sd-card pr ext-sd-card?
thx, nearly
Bro I just plugged my phone into my PC and my PC download the drivers needed.. recognized phone and bam. Go into computer and find your device. If you double click on it it should bring up your SD card.. From there I just drag and drop files.

Just like a USB stick. I connect to PC and it pops up. Maybe because I.have development option ticked but don't think it's that. Just download the latest version of kies for the drivers.

That sounds less painful than the galaxy s II

Really sucks...
Can't use the phone while transferring large files
What about connecting the phone to a PS3, does that work?
i cant remember the last time i connected a phone to a computer for file transfers.
get samba share from the market or use es file explorer to transfer files to network shares on the pc.
LOL WIRES.
MTP/Kies really suck. My main pc is running Linux so that's a no-go with MTP. I installed Kies on my work pc as it runs Win 7. All SGS 3 drivers are installed as well. For the first few days it was working but now the phone isn't recognised anymore. Either the phone does not show at all on the pc, or it shows but the internal and external SD cards are not showing.
Saw on Samsung's website that there's a Kies version for Mac available so I installed that on my wife's macbook pro. When plugging the phone in the "connecting" message keeps running but the phone never connects. I thought it was because I'm not using the original USB cable, but using that won't work either.
So looking forward to a custom rom that has USB mass storage included. Until then I'm using the WiFi File Transfer Pro and/or Samba Sharing apps.
You can also install Kies Air from the play store on your phone. You won't have to install anything on your PC.
Just make sure you are on the same network as your PC and run the app.
It will start a server and the URL will be displayed on your device.
Enter this URL in your browser on the PC and you are ready to go

Ok, will give it a go. Thanks!
You're better off using airdroid if it's just a couple of files

How can I copy file to /data directory?
I use Cyberduck on my Mac to connect to the SGS III by SSH, I have an app called SSHDroidPro on my phone. So easy to use. I can browse the entire filesystem of the phone wirelessly and file transfer is pretty fast and totally painless. MUCH better than Kies Air IMO.

Only with Windows 7 in my case, wouldn't work with XP
I tried to connect my SXS to my dad's windows XP desktop but the PC Suite is not detecting it. When I connect the mobile the PC Suite says 'searching phone' for a second and then says 'no phone detected'. And I'm not able to use tethering option too. BTW I am able to access my internal storage via 'SDcard mounter' app.
When I connect the mobile the PC is making a sound confirming that a device is connected during which pc suite says 'searching phone' but after two or three seconds the PC is making the same sound repeatedly and at a faster rate and then the PC Suite says 'no phone detected'. Frankly I don't understand why it's happening like this.
BTW the mobile works fine with my windows 7 laptop.
Any help would be grateful. Thanking you in advance.

Thank you for the reply.
I downloaded the drivers from this site.
I thought that it would be a .exe file but its not. So please help me regarding how exactly I should use the drivers after I download them.
Right now am trying to update my WMPlayer.
Extract it to desktop, connect your phone and when pc says that drivers not found click advance and select path where you extract the drivers, wait couple of minutes and drivers will be setup.
I update wm player to 11.

First xp scan for hardware is far more weeker than win 7 or 8..
So for all the proprietary drivers u need to manually push the driver for divices.. in xp...
Google xperia sola drivers for xp u will get drivers from the support center of sony or any other uploader.
Once u get it Go to device manager add drivers manully... select all devices .. custom location search on system.. install.. accept all red flags from system... once done ... restart ur system... connect again.. if not SUCCESS in mtp tgan usb mode..
Could have helped u for searching drivers.. but i am travelling right now...
If not than better to upgrade ur self to higher system.. may ask u wat u like aboit xp so much??
All the things u can do on 7 now... anything supported in xp is supported on 7...

No, the mount usb option is for otg cable. I am talking about usb cable, when we connect usb cable with our computer and android phone, the computer dont consider our android phone as usb storage rather it treat as android phone.

Hello waqar89,
I had the same problem months ago, but I've found the solution here in the forum, there is an app created by some users of this forum that turns Xperia S/P/U from MTP to Mass Storage. I've been using it and it works so fine!
The only requirements that you need are:
->You have to be in stock ICS ROM
->You need your phone rooted and with busybox installed
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744878
About the other problem... trying to connect your phone to your car's music player I think it's not possible by USB, I tried it to with no luck.
When I want to connect it to my car I do it with a jack-to-jack cable...
Hope it helped to you

Thank you for the solution but Unfortunately my device is not rooted and I have jellybean, the residual option I.e jack to jack is good and acceptable. Thank you
