[Q] SD Card Borked after S-Off - HTC Amaze 4G

I am going to be switching to straight talk within the next few weeks, so today I performed the S-OFF on my Amaze, then I went and Sim Unlocked it. I had done this previously on my other Amaze that I swapped in to tmobile due to a power button issue, and had no problems. However, now when I load my phone it keeps saying "checking SD Card for errors" and when I try to mount my SD Card to my PC it doesn't show up. I backed up all my data, so it's not a data loss issue, I just don't have another 8GB Micro SD Card laying around to pop in my phone. Has anyone else had this problem after performing an S-Off? I know data loss is a warning, but it never said it'd bork my SD Card completely!!

Get into recovery and see if you can format the SD Card, if you can, let it format and copy the files you backed up.

yes, corrupting the sd card is a minor side affect of doing the s-off via wire trick.. thats why they warn you and say to use a extra sd card that you don't need because it might happen... luckily for me nothing happened to mines when i tried it.. but one of my friends that did it broke a 2gb card..

Really strange, about a hour after I wrote this I looked at my phone and the "scanning sd card" message was gone. I connected it to my PC and it detected it but said there were errors. So I let it do the error check, and now my SD Card is working!! I am going to format it just in case. There was probably a lot of junk on there I didn't want anyways.

SD card not mounting after format

I have a small 4gb microSD card that i had from my old phone and have been using it on the Atrix. I want to get a bigger one but seeing as I have this one now I wanted to format it and use it for backups, etc. It's been working find in my Atrix until just now. I formatted it using the Settings -> Storage -> Format SD card option. Now it will no longer mount properly. I have rebooted the phone a few times, removed the SD card and reinserted it, etc. It recognizes the card and says "Preparing SD card. Checking for errors." in the notification area. But it never completes that and mounts it.
Just now it said "Damaged SD card. SD card damaged. You may have to reformat it." So i tried again to reformat using the phone, and it still will not correctly mount. I'll try some more things, but wondering if anyone else has had this happen or knows of a solution. Thank you.
Problem solved myself. lol. I placed the card in my laptop and saw it was a mess of garbage files. Weird. So I formatted it on windows, then put it back in my Atrix, and all is well. heh.

[Q] Wifi Error / SD Card Huawei m835

I am lost for words on this lol, ok here is the problem.
NOT ROOTED
Huawei m835 Phone
Metro PCS Carrier
Android 2.2 froyo
2gig transcend SD
Now, The issue I am having is my wifi wont work or my sd card wont work. Its one or the other. The phone uses a easy wifi app that will automatically turn on, now I have tried to turn it on manually via wifi settings but It tries to turn on then says error. Now this only happens with the SD card in the phone, if the sd card is not in the phone it works like a gem. The sd card work previously before i reset the phone back to sq one because wifi stopped.
I have tested sd on my pc and it works great, i see the space there.
I have a Evo Shift 4g (rooted) and popped the transcend sd to be partioned via recovery menu. I popped my orginal card in, evo shift working great still.. I pop sd into Huawei and it works.
Phone now works great, I check space on sd card via settings menu and i got my space back. But heres the kicker, I go to my camera and it tells me my sd card isnt there, I go back to the settings and its gone. Now i cant seem to fix it, I tried several formats of the SD card, several factory sets on the Huawei. I tried to do the Evo Shift partion trick thing I did, and nothing.
SD card still works on pc
Can some one please help with this.
Update, I was looking at running applications to close or uninstall and i notice alot of them have 0.00 bytes, even my android system?
Try inserting a new standard sd card !! Or maybe scan for any virus or errors in sd card...it might solve the prob...
Sent from my HTC Wildfire
I did a error scan via pc properties menu. Nothing, found. doesnt work. However i put this sd card into my evo shift, formatted it, partioned it, and it worked fine on the evo shift, but refuses to work right on the Huawei :/
Try a new sd card or take it from a friend to try it once...if still it doesn't work it might be a hardware prob...

I have already tried that, it works in a different phone but refuses to work on the huawei, after severl resets, perhaps if I flash a new rom on phone? Is it possible to root phone with no sd card?
Update: ok so I had phone sitting over night last night and it died with sd card in, now I booted it up and realized it prepared my sd card and now its mounted. So it works and so does wifi?...
Can explain why it is now workn

I solved the problem when I didn't use my SD card as an internal storage.
May be that will help you

Error with new SD card

Hey. I bought a new _cheap_ SDHC card online, 32gb... When I put it in my phone, the phone gets pretty slow while there's a notification saying "Preparing SD card" "Checking for errors."
Now it stays there for a long while and the phone gets very hot... Is the card defect or is there something that can be done?
Have a look for H2testw
Well the problem is that i can't mount the card since i don't have a card reader...
Please forgive me for not being psychic, you didn't say that originally.
No need to be hostile man.
Anyways, i let my phone run for a few hours, still nothing...
Does anyone have any idea? The phone IS rooted, so that might have something to do with it, gonna try to unroot it today to see if that makes any difference.
this happened to once, I bought a 32 GB from amazon and it was cheap. It was a disaster, all my data I stored in it was erased spontaneously. I returned it and had a refund. My guess, the sd_card is inferior
y don u get a cardreader an check for eerors or format an c....or u can set usb debugging and do tht if dont hav card reader...some use 64gb card wiv no prblm..
You don't need a card reader to check for errors if you don't have one. Just plug your phone with the card in it into a computer and search for your card in windows explorer and check for errors there. You can also format it from there also.
I managed to check it on a card reader today, windows does recognize something is going but doesn't allow me to format it or do anything except change the drive letter basically... When i check it through computer -> manage -> disk management it shows it as a MBR? Why is that and any way to go around it?
Oh and i can't access the card while it's in my phone at all, it just keeps looking for errors and doesn't mount it?
preparing SD Card and checking for errors
I am also having the same problem, My sd card always shows the message Preparing sd card and checking for errors in galaxy fit and I have formatted it in my pc and then tried all the other methods like deleting the msdos file from system/bin etc but still the problem persists. would there be any problem with my phone of sd card slot kindly reply

SD Card unexpectingly stopped working.

Was using my wifi tether while phone was plugged in and when I checked my phone, I seen the white sd card with the exclimation point and when I pulled down my notification bar, it said "Removed SD Card, Insert a new one." I put it in another phone, said same thing. I put it in my laptop, and Windows didn't even recognize it in any way. When I put it back in my phone, it said "Damaged SD Card, Reformat needed" or whatever. When I tried to reformat it, it said it couldn't be reformatted. When I rebooted into 4ext to reformat it, it kept giving me errors that it couldn't be reformatted.
I'm running Dastin's WILD FOR THE NIGHT 2/15 4.2.2 rom. My SD card is a Lexar High-Speed Class 10 32GB.
All I'm trying to do is recover everything that is/was on it. I have a feeling that that isn't possible. I had 4GBs of music, about 10GBs of downloads, custom roms, etc.
If anyone knows how to recover my files or format the sd card without errors please tell me. Thank you.
I had the exact same problem once. no card reader was recognizing it. what i did was go to recovery and format the card from there. I remember i had to choose 4ext partition option or something like that to get it to format
Whenever I go into 4ext, it says sd card can't be mounted. The only way I got it to do anything was I used a friends desktop computer and it recognized it in My Computer, yet when I click Open, it says it's not accessible. I right clicked on it, did the full format, and at the end it said it couldn't be formatted. I went to properties and the disk is blue and it says 0kbs in all sections. I tried data recovery software, partition wizards, etc and no go. Can I send it to Lexar and have them do something about it?

Go into recovery and then select make sd-ext4 partition option. It should format the card. then afterwards you can remove the ext partition by reformatting
What if the sd card isn't recognized by any computer? And I have data recovery software that "claims" it can restore your data even after a format. Is that even possible?
Sent from my WILD FOR THE NIGHT'd Fr3vo that makes iPhags Jellybean.
I was once able to restore around 90 percent of my images on a corrupted card but i have never seen a card restore all the data on a card. It's all your luck
I had app backups, game data, videos, and about 4gbs of music. Will it restore them or images only?

Re:
Due to corruption your memory card stopped working and need to repair corruption issue, go for Kernel for windows data recovery software for the recovery of your data from the corrupted sd memory card.
Well i put the sd card in an action replay sd card adapter (the one that you take the bottom off and it turns into a usb drive) and I was able to bring up everything that was on it. I backed it up and formatted it with win7 partition wizard or something, and I put it in a regular sd adapter and I got nothing. For some reason it only works with the AR USB adapter. How can I get the sd card to work in my phone now? I'm thinking I can just buy another 32GB (or 64) since I was able to get everything off of it, I'm just trying to avoid that so I can try and save this one still.

Micro SD problems in HTC One (M8)

I have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SDXC card formatted in exFAT. I had been using the card in my NOTE 2 with no issues. I normally keep all of my movies, music, emulators, and ROMs on it so I can keep space free on my phone. This morning I got my phone setup the way that I wanted it and I decided to install the SD card into the new phone. Everything seemed to go okay, I got a message telling me that it was preparing the card, but after the message disappeared, the SD card was not recognized. There were no error messages regarding the card, it simply did not show any additional storage on the phone and all options regarding the card with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" were not accessible.
I took ejected the card and formatted it to NTFS to see if that would make a difference and when I reinserted it into the (M8), it recognized it as a blank SD card that was not in the proper format. It prompted me to format the card while still installed in the device, which it did without error. After the format was complete I received the same "Preparing SD Card" message that I received before, but after the message disappeared, the card still didn't show up as additional storage.
Through a root browser I have the option to enter extSD, but nothing I put on the card is there. I then took the card back out, installed it into my Note 2 and it worked with no problems at all. Finally I ejected the card, reinstalled it in the (M8) again, it gives me the same prompt as before, but after the message disappears the additional storage does not show up and all options with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" are inaccessible once again.
I have tried the fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310 to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and is there any way that I can solve the problem?

- Rooted Stock KitKat 4.4.2
- Jmz WP Removal Custom Kernel
If you have a USB card reader, try formatting the card as FAT32 with your computer.
I believe most cards come pre-formatted as FAT32 by default. I've always just put the cards in my Android devices without any formatting, and they work just fine.
Not sure why the device's default format didn't work, but possibly formatting on a computer will get it working.
It's possible that SD may be dying.
I had a 32gb card that a friend left with me to fill with movies/etc, but since I wasnt going to see them for a while, I decided to use it with my old LGOG. Not 3 days later, I get what you described, and now the card isnt even seen by Windows.
Even with formatting the card, it would work again for a few minutes, but as soon as I tried copying more than ~3 gigs, the card would go corrupt again.
SD cards dont last forever yo.

I just tried it out a few minutes ago. I don't know why, but it's working perfectly fine in Windows, a Note 2, S3, and an S5. I have no idea what's going on, but no matter what I try, nothing makes it work on this phone.

I was able to get the card formatted form exFAT to FAT32 and it looked like it was going to work, same with NTFS. I inserted it into the phone, waited for it to prepare the card and this time I got a message telling me that the SD Card was damaged, but I could format it in the phone. I followed the instructions, just as I had before, it went through it's thing, got to the part where it attempted to mount the card, appeared as though it was going to mount, and then nothing, just like with everything else. I have no idea what's going on.
I ran some tools on it and the card appears to be in good condition, so I have no idea what to do. I don't know if it's the phone, or if it is the card. I'm thinking about buying a 128gb card, but I'm afraid if I do, I'm going to find myself in the exact same position that I'm in now and out a lot of money to boot.
I'm loosing my mind with this thing.
Surely you must know someone that has a MicroSD card you can try. Trying another would pretty much eliminate the card as being the issue (and possibly the card tray or similar component on the phone). I have at least 2 "spare" MicroSD cards laying around.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago and I did format my 64gb card with GUIFORMAT on my win 7 PC and since then no more problem. Here is the link: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/323-gui-format-fat32-drive-formatter/
Thank you. I'll give it a shot right now.

You, sir, just won all my Internets. I don't know what it was about that app, but it worked like a champ the first time around. I don't get it either. I had used so many tools to get it to FAT32, but this one did the trick. I formatted the card, inserted it...was totally waiting for it to not work, and I noticed "Unmount SD Card". I read it and thought "hmmm, that's not right", lol. Then it dawned on me that it worked. Copying folders over to it now. Thanks so much, bud. I really owe you one.

Nice. I've heard that the native Windows formatting tool is not the best (although its always worked fine for me), so this might be one of those instances.

Thanks. I had the same problem with a brand new 128GB card with only this phone (HTC One E8 Dual). Until I found this. So far working like a charm. You ARE a star.
