Sorry to get your hopes up by the title, but I have not built this. It's merely an idea I had. I'm picturing the tablet on the front of a small custom-built case, with a small power supply, water-cooled CPU/GPU/memory, overclocked to hell, full-sized wireless keyboard and mouse, maybe a little tube amp built-in, and a USB/SD card reader hub built into the side. Who wants to sacrifice their tablet in the name of awesomeness? :fingers-crossed:
Any other ideas or Photoshop renderings are welcome!
Why? You just described a desktop computer...

In all seriousness... the N10 is supposed to be a portable device. The mods your describing simply dont belong in a portable device. Blow your money on a really nice desktop computer and put the Android emulator from the SDK on it if you really want something like this.
Is it similar to a desktop computer? Yes
Is it practical? No
Is it portable? No
Would it still be pretty awesome? Yes:good:
Got a nice computer already, built it myself (not from scratch). My degree is in electrical engineering so I still would like to see someone build this. Sorry to blow your minds with such a ridiculous concept.
I think it would be more practical and doable , to make a case with a build in cooling fan in the back where it would help to keep the nexus 10 from thermal throttling, and power it thru the micro USB.

Looks to me like a phase change cooling system, which *can* be used for normal running but is not really practical or the safest thing to do. It is supposed to be for benchmark runs but is kinda pointless now days since anyone doing extreme benchmarking has an easier time going the LN2 route and anyone going for a world record is pretty much always sponsored by a company and given liquid helium
I think this idea for a large and bulky custom cooling solution is completely pointless on this tablet. I am all for extreme overclocking and was a world record holder myself at one time (in PC's, not Android stuff). However the problem is that even with an extreme water cooling setup these processors probably wont do very well overclocking and at best would hit *MAYBE* 2.5GHz tops. The processors architecture needs to be more refined before we will see any decent headroom on these things. Right now the final products just have far too much of a range of quality, which shows that there are problems needing to be sorted out in the architecture and process node. And even if you managed to get this thing cooled really well, I suspect (as others do too) that part of the issue with the throttling is not just temperature but also TDP limit being upheld. So you would have to hack the firmware to remove this limiting so that both the CPU and GPU could run at their full speed properly. It would be interesting to see done but would take far too much work to do and also cost a lot of money. Reasonably I could see the case and cooling setup costing 2x what the entire tablet cost.

It's not helium, it's nitrogen.
The N10 is big enough as it is and that image of the PC is actually kinda meh.
Reason:
ZALMAN HDD cooler - OLD.
8000 card - OLD
Prolly a E8k/Q9k prolly so it's also old.

D: That's all I have to say...just.... D:
I'm a horrible sketcher, but with the s pen it makes it so much more precise to direct your lines and fill color.
I drew Bowser yesterday and it came out a lot better than I thought it would. I would have done more, but it was telling me I was running out of ink lol.
I've been playing this game using my S-Pen. The stylus is a godsend for this particular app. Unfortunately, the nanosecond delay in inputs makes it so that my drawings look really cheesy. If I draw something, what I draw doesn't appear instantaneously ... there's always a very slight delay, but that delay caused major issues for accuracy. I don't see any solution to this problem.

yea...that's it, that's why my drawlings suck too, the delay is inhibiting my artistic abilities to drawl stick figures.
Those pictures are epic! I'm jealous of people who can draw.
The stylus action isn't quite as good as a full blown Wacom tablet or a tablet PC with Wacom pen like an older LE1600 (which I have), but it's a lot better than an iPad or iPhone with a mushy capaci-touch type stylus. There's some okay accuracy styli on iOS, just not really pressure sensitive.
My understanding is the S-Pen will be better supported with ICS. As it stands, there's a handful of suitable pressure-friendly paint apps already, more soon I should think. Doodledroid and Hello Color Pencil are two good ones.
Of course, the Note display isn't huge, but I did a few decent drawings on my iPhone with just my finger, so this is a lot better by comparison.
I never got around to trying Draw Something until I got the Note, but now I've got a good addiction going.
I'm kind of torn on some of the images. On one hand, they are spectacular - on the other hand wondering how long it takes to make them. I would love to use the Note & this game to improve my drawing skills (of which I have none of), but I don't want to spend an hour doing a drawing either.
I think the part I like the most is seeing how a drawing is done. There is a screen saved I used to love watching called Drawing Hand (google it) where you watch the artist draw the image using just a basic pen tool and a smudge tool. Always wanted to emulate by learning, but I just don't have the art skill.
Hoping DS will improve my drawing skill some. So far, looks like all my friends are about the same stick figure level that I am.
Is there a sight to see some art done by people, preferably with a way to see them draw it? There a way I'm missing to start a drawing, then come back to finish it later?
BTW - they got bought by zynga (sp) for a rumored 200 million today (!)

Take a look at the following "article" by Pocketlint in the UK comparing the ipad with the prime.
Very funny read......
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/45050/new-ipad-vs-transformer-prime
1ST: NEW IPAD 3G, lighter weight, better video watching
2ND: PRIME no 3G, heavy, great but missing touch of class
LOL they compare the weight of the prime including the keyboard??
I also like the squeezing in of advertising for apple tv.
"The iPad does claim the win here in the video stakes, though. Its video application is just a lot slicker than Android."
Because android doesn't have choice, and they 4:3 screen is just amazing for widescreen movies.
thanks for the funny read.
Even in death, Steve Jobs is still getting the best blow j** from these fanboy sites!! just too funny!!
P.S. I have the utmost respect for Steve, he was a visionary

Actually, I would agree with just about everything they said...from their point of view, that is. There are reasons people buy Ipads, just like there are reasons I prefer an android device like the Prime. I like being able to play any format, and to be able to stream over my network without intermediaries like Itunes and DLNA. They value the simplicity and integration of Itunes and being able to integrate with Apple TV, and they like the added display resolution. I like to have games that look good and run smoothly with a lot of graphical detail, they like a bigger selection and simpler games. I like something heavily customizable, they like simplicity and uniform behavior. I didn't find any of their assertions wrong, just not my point of view.
Comparing the weight of the Prime with the keyboard dock and using that as a negative for the Prime (when by itself it's lighter than the iPad) is a clear sign of bias (or maybe sloppy thinking). If the reviewer wanted to be impartial, he would have tossed in one of the various iPad keyboard dock options and an external battery pack, and included those in the iPad's weight.
I don't consider this an unbiased review by any stretch.
Wow! Lets face it the new iPad, all iPads' for that matter, are the 800lbs gorillas that all other tablets are and will judged buy. They set the standard, for better or worst, simply because they've sold millions of them and people love them. It's fact so don't flame me.
They are not for everyone , me included, and most likely everyone in this forum. But this review was so mismatched that I'm not even going to try and rebut all of it. I will say though if you going to compare products then compare like products.
First I'm pissed my Prime didn't come with the "included keyboard." I thought that cost extra? I'm pretty sure you can buy one for the iPad too. Which one would be easier to throw in the rucksack then? Next is cost. 500$ will buy both of these products and the last I checked you didn't 3G and 32GB of storage for that money on the iPad either. Last point is video. Now I don't know how Apple TV works but I'm pretty sure it's a wireless connection to the iPad to be able to view it on the TV since PL didn't have to "plug it in." Correct me if I'm wrong but could the Prime not do this too? My TV and Windows 7 PCs all have DNLA built in and to this day have of yet to plug any of my Android devices into a PC to get content on or off them or watch stuff on my TV. Samba Fileshare lets all of my Android devices be part of my home network wirelessly. But you know the best part for me? I don't have to install and use that God forshaken **** software iTunes!

Wow looks like yanks like GernBlanston are brainwashed too
It was such a fair review that I had to put my two penny's worth in!!
"The iPad’s extra display resolution does come into play during email. Text is far, far easier to read..."
This was one of the main things that stuck out to me.
Does text look sharper on the iPad? Sure, i'll give you that considering the higher resolution, but I definitely wouldn't say it is "far, far easier to read". I have used both devices and can attest that text and images do look slightly better on the iPad, but the article makes it sound like the iPad display is a gift from God and that the Prime's display doesn't even compare, which is totally inaccurate.
I also didn't agree with comparing the weight of the iPad to the weight of the Prime with the dock. They are so full of it anyways as they claim the weight of the keyboard dock could be the straw the breaks the camel's back when it comes to rucksack weight. If there really is that big of a problem with the weight (which is BS to begin with)... guess what? The keyboard dock comes off!

That's a true display (pun intended) of how Apple can market something and people will consider it amazing in every way.
It's as if people sat around before the iPad3 squinting at the screen and considered reading email an unusable feature on any tablet. As if anyone who looked at their iPad2 said, "You know, if you doubled the pixel density it would make the experience of reading this email so much better!"
Keep in mind the Primes density is 150, the iPad2 is 136 and the 3rd gen iPad is 264.

Yes, we Prime owners are such brainwashed apple fanatics. Whenever I like a device, I run out and buy the competing product. Sorry I suggested that apple might have some attraction for some folks other than me, it must have really hurt your feelings and called for some sort of retaliation.
Seriously, all I did was suggest that Apple had some appealing features...features that I explained didn't win me over due to the Prime's advantages in several areas...and out come the pitchforks. Of course I'm the one who's brainwashed....

Yeah, or when he talks about the ease of sync'ing music and doesn't mention Google Music (or whatever it's called this week) at all.
Nor does he mention how much widgets and 3rd party launchers can customize your user "experience" with the Prime. Methinks the author is an Apple user by preference and doesn't have a clue what advantages Android can bring.

Now this is an interesting thread.
Everyone in here achieved several things:
Created a new thread where a better thread to post this already exists --> Check
Posted stuff that would attract trolls and flamers --> Check
Trolls and flamers arrived and started trolling flaming --> Check
Thread closed due to above reasons --> Check
Just for reference, this post should go to this thread.
Sorry if this post doesn't really add much but I have to say, I love this device! It is absolutely solid and almost as easy to hold as the n7 with build quality that puts it to shame!
I don't know how anyone can say this thing feels or is cheap feeling at all. The finish on this feels awesome and the device has zero flex in it. I even like the shape! iPad can go to hell. 10 hours of battery life for my usage, an amazing screen and it is faster than any high end android device I've had a chance to use. Samsung and Google hit this thing out of the park.
I really hope whenever my n4 comes in that it can hold up to the example set with the 10.
Only thing I'm worried about is how long I will have to wait for my screen and body protector to come in the mail. Some cases and the mag power connector need to get here fast too.
Anyone else here feel the same?

Mine has pretty bad light bleeding at the top right corner. Noticeable when the screen is dark. The back also creaks a little if I press it...
But I do love this tablet. Samsung makes beautiful devices. Loved the GTab 10.1 and now this. The screen is stunning. I compared viewing a high-res 24mp image (6000x4000) with an Asus TF Infinity and the difference is staggering o.o Don't believe people who say the screen isn't that much better than 1080p. It sure is, providing you have high-res sources.

The negative reviews was basically Engadget and PCmag, the rest were positive but also mentioned the ipad 4 being superior. I have a few theories as to why this tablet is betting some hate despite the specifications and excellent Samsung manufacturing and design. I truly believe these theories to be quite accurate as well. The hate I believe stems from three camps. The Samsung haters(there are a lot including Engadget), the Infinity owners, and the ipad 3/4 owners.
The Samsung hater theory is self explanatory.
The Asus owners are basically trying to justify how crappy their tablet runs by emphasizing the few minor features that the infinity has over the Nexus 10.
The ipad 3/4 owners are the same as the infinity owners except their tablet runs great but they are still insecure and throw some hate at the Nexus 10 because they are jealous that their retina display got beat and how much thinner/lighther, less expensive, the Nexus 10 is. They also are hating on how cool it runs compared to the literally scorching ipad 3.
Basically player hating.
the screen is just beautiful and colors are not washed out like nexus 7.. didnt notice any light bleed, as long as I dont notice any bleed in my day to day use, I dont care if there is any.. I plan to use this to occasionally watch movies stored in my desktop.. for browsing or lugging around the house, nexus 7 will do..will wait for aokp build and root it..want to enjoy pure android a lil before I load custom rom..
Just got mine in...still setting it up but so far so good. The screen is absolutely amazing and the swipe keys work good as well. I can already say without a doubt that it does not suffer from the stuttering seen on the tf700. Love it love it love it

It is indeed a thing of great beauty. :victory:
This is the experience I was expecting when I bought my Prime last year. This runs circles around the Prime and I agree with Tomatoes8 on his N10 hate theories. Can't imagine the tablet experience being much better than this. Also, the boot time blew my mind compared to the Prime. I would imagine with updates etc that the N10 will only get better.
My Windows laptop is getting a little long in the tooth, so I'm shopping for a replacement. I am generally in my office working at a fully fledged Windows workstation. I occasionally need to work while traveling, and I plug into my workstation using a remote desktop client. I have been looking at Chromebooks with Chrome Remote Desktop looking to be a very functional solution during my initial testing. Another thought I had though was to replace my N7 (2013) with the N9 with the folio keyboard case. I use my N5's wifi tethering to be consistently connected to the internet while traveling, so remote access is never really an issue.
Does anyone use this setup as a laptop replacement? If so, how has your experience been? How does it compare to running a traditional laptop or a Chromebook? I would love to hear the thoughts and experiences of people who have given this a try. What would you recommend?

My Windows laptop is getting a little long in the tooth, so I'm shopping for a replacement. I am generally in my office working at a fully fledged Windows workstation. I occasionally need to work while traveling, and I plug into my workstation using a remote desktop client. I have a powerful ultrabook that I use every day. Its battery life is great and its one of the most powerful ultrabooks on the market. Only problem is I don't always need this power and I want something i can carry in one hand and my lunch in the other when I go to work. I purchased a Dell venue 8 Pro back in september but I found that Windows on such small device, equipped with an atom processor, is slow and doesnt give me the performance of my i7 SSD equipped ultrabook. Also, lets not even get into the entire "microsoft store is empty of great apps and full of garbage apps" debate because it aint even a debate.
I bought a N9 LTE 2 weeks ago, I love it. Sure, it has a couple negatives, light bleeding, long to charge and fingerprint magnet, but I do not regret swapping my Venue 8 for this, not a single second. Unless you're a heavy windows only apps user, almost anything you want, including a full fledged office is available on android. Plus, I use teamviewer to connect to my laptop if I need it. I have a small bluetooth keyboard + touchpad so when I do a remote session, i can still use it as if i was on it.
I have to say, I dont regret one second buying a N9, I'm selling my venue 8 without looking back

Thanks for the response. I am not in any way invested in the Windows Marketplace or whatever it's called. I am heavily invested in Android, as I have been on this platform for many years. The Chromebook is actually appealing to me because it let's me get away from Windows for anything other than when I'm remoting into my desktop. How is your experience with teamviewer? Do you feel the screen real estate is sufficient?
Yes very much. 9 inches is more than enough. My ultrabook is 12 inches so my entire desktop fits on my screen
This is what it looks like

I'm guessing the lack of responses on this topic is an indication that not many people use this device as a travel laptop replacement. I might need to find one to play around with to see how it feels. Thanks for your responses, Pat.
I been spending time learning how to do presentations, chromecast does not work too good from a hotspot.
I rarely lug my laptop with me.

I think it really depends on you and what you expect from it... I use my Nexus 9 mainly for school and writing papers and notes on the go... The Microsoft Word app is great on the nexus.. The keyboard is not horrible but nothing like a laptop... It feels cramped at first but you quickly get used to it... My laptop replaced my desktop at home, especially since I just put a ssd drive in it, and my Nexus did replace my laptop on the go... I do recommend the nexus versus a chromebook only if you can afford the 32gb nexus... You are very limited on the chromebook when your not online, and you can do more with the nexus when your not online...

I think the offline argument is perhaps the best. For example, I use Nine as my exchange email app, which I think is fantastic for my needs. There is no equivalent on a Chromebook that I'm aware of that allows me to utilize my email when I'm not connected. I guess I could install linux...
