[Q] Turn off auto sync - best way to check mail afterwards - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda,
Thinking of disabling auto sync email (gmail) for battery saving purposes since I do not need to check it as often.
If I do disable auto sync, what would be the best way of updating the inbox without me having to open up gmail every time I'm connected to a network?
Is there a widget or button that is available that fetches email updates on demand?
Have a good one.

[Q] Shortcut to toggle Push and Manual option for a quick sync

Currently I have kept Auto Sync off. And my Exchange Sync is Manual.
Now whenever I want to sync my contacts and calendar I have to do two things:
1. Enable the Auto Sync from the notification (it is available in the ROM/Theme that I am using). So that is quick.
2. Change from Manual to Push in my Exchange Account Settings. Now this is not so quick.
Is there a way of creating some kind of shortcut to do this?

How do you force an Exchange sync (Contacts)

How do I force a sync for contacts (Exchange)
Yes, I know how to do email sync, but I can find no way of doing this with contacts. It seems like they sync at some predetermined interval.
I add a contact in exchange on my PC, then if I want to see it immediately (like I'm driving to a client and setting the GPS) I have to reboot the friggen phone to make it available..
My EVO did this easily.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Click to collapse
You can always force sync through the “Accounts and sync” settings page.
Click Settings
Click Accounts and sync
Click on your corporate/exchange account
Click Sync now
Or you can use something like the free app "Synker", a sync widget, to create a widget that allows you to force sync specific accounts regardless of the current auto-sync setting.
You can also use the power control widget, Widgetsoid, etc… to “toggle” the global Android auto-sync setting off/on, which effectively will cause a force sync.

[Q] Email auto sync problem

I really hope to find some help with the problem. I can see a lot of related questions posted everywhere around the web without a solution.
It could be this is a well known problem and I just have to stop trying to fix it and wait for Samsung or Google to apply some fixes?
The problem is very simple. I have two email accounts: Hotmail and another one coming from my ISP using POP3 protocol (Home -ADSL2).
No matter what I do the Hotmail emails syncing without any problems but the other email doesn't update as per sync schedule. It works only if I sync it manually.
I have to add while my phone had 4.1.1 firmware I had both accounts auto-syncing.
Another thing is I tried enabling Auto Sync from the phone Settings>Data Usage without much effect. When it worked before, the auto sync was disabled and my Hotmail emails arrive with auto sync disabled anyway.
I really don't know what to try next. Could it be the problem with stock email client and I need to use a different client for that to work?

[Q] GMail notification even if sync is off

Hi there,
in order to save some battery, i decided to turn sync off during daytime - i thought syncing calendar, contacts, send mail, etc at night is sufficient.
But it seems that GMail-App only notifies me about new mail if the sync is on.
Is this a bug or a feature?
Do i really have to use a different Mail-App for notifications with sync off?
Thanks
Lennart

Gmail not syncing on Nougat

Hi,
I have an issue with the Gmail app on my Moto G4+ on Nougat official ROM.
All syncing options are enable for Gmail, but I don't receive notifications when I have a new mail, I have to open the app en refresh manually to see it. Also, when I read the mail on the app, or delete it, if I open Gmail in a browser on my computer, the inbox still contains the deleted mail. Again, if I refresh manually on my G4, the mail is deleted on the server and not visible on my computer. There's no automatic sync in Gmail app, it only works with manual updates. The problem happens in Wifi or 4G, so it's not a connection issue.
I've tried to delete Gmail app data, to delete my Google account and recreate it on my phone, to exclude Gmail from battery economy mode, but nothing works, and it's really annoying.
Anyone here with the same problem and perhaps a solution ?
Thanks
Same issue here suddenly in the last few days. Manual sync within the Gmail app works but emails not automatically downloading and actions on phone not syncing to web automatically.
You have any battery savings settings enabled? Or a battery saving app? These often mess with sync settings to save some juice. Other than that, try Inbox if you want to stick with Google or a third party email app. I prefer BlueMail myself.
I have Nougat on a Samsung Note 5 with the same exact problem. I have power saving turned off. Never had this problem before I updated my phone to Nougat.
