Yes. If you are on Virgin Mobile and you meet the prerequisites for JuopunutBear on the unlimited.io website you will necessarily be on the 1.57 hboot after flashing the RUU.

OK thanks. I am rooted and on stock ROM. I'm just installing Linux 12.10 32 bit so it can work. Cause I tried 11.10 32 bit and didn't work. Hopefully it works. If u don't mind, can u explain to me what an RUU is?
edit: now since I tried using the wire trick and it failed on Linux 11.10 32 bit my phone is stuck at the juopunutbear screen and it won't go into stock ROM. Anyone know how to fix it?

The ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) is an executable Windows file provided by HTC that flashes all the firmware and software components on the phone and resets it to the stock condition associated with it's build level. It's also possible to extract an embedded zip file from the executable file and flash it via the bootloader if a Windows system is not available.
Since you still have the stock ROM and are rooted, there is no need to flash the RUU and you should be able to continue with the wire trick procedure as though you had.

Ruu Version

So I have the virgin mobile 3d and I am rooted with s-on. I've been trying to get it off tho. So I was following the quick and dirty thread. And so I relocked the boot loader and then I started up the RUU like the guide. And about halfway through the installation it gave me boot loader version error 140. So I looked it up and I think it means that I was trying to downgrade. And that's why it didn't work. I was supposedly going from 1.14 down to 1.13. These are the version The ruu gave. I'm not sure what the numbers were about but can someone help? That ruu was supposed to be the most updated one. And i have been searching like crazy. Any help would be appreciated. I understand these things, so don't be afraid to talk techy to me lmfao. Thanks

See the note for S-ON users in this post, which is also linked in the informational posts after Step3 of the guide. The reason you are having this problem is because you have already installed the OTA, which has a higher main version (mainver) than the VM RUU.

Good.
Don't forget to download and flash the OTA again after the RUU is flashed since it requires the stock recovery.

So it worked!! I finally got s-off!!! Now one last thing, how do i go about downgrading the hboot. I plan on going SlimBean. I tried flashing the sprint 1.5 hboot but it failed. The error said that the custom ID failed. . Is there any way to downgrade?

I have tried this. And a side note* when I boot into the boot loader it doesn't look for PG86IMG.zip it looks for PG86DIAG.zip. its really weird. Anyone know what this is? I tried renaming it to that but it doesn't do anything. It just reboots the boot loader. I have also tried flashing it through fastboot

The PG86DIAG.zip file is an advanced diagnostic that is very tightly controlled by HTC, but the bootloader always looks for it anyway.
The filename for the zip doesn't matter when you use the fastboot flashing method. Can you paste the messages you are getting here starting with the "fastboot erase cache" command? Make sure you delete the PG86IMG.zip file from the root of the SD card before trying the fastboot method.

OK sweet that it good to know. I tried both methods and it didn't work. But when I used the fast boot method I got a custom I'd check failed error. I'm not by the phone right now. But I remember the error. That's the only one I got. When I tried downgrading from 1.57jboot to 1.5

If you are on hboot 1.57 then you probably have the Evo V 4G which means you need to use the Virgin Mobile version of the RUU.

So you're saying I should extract the PG86IMG.zip from an older VM ruu? And then place in the root of my sdcard? That would give me the stock boot loader :-/. I already got s-off with jbear hboot 1.7
I'm trying to dual boot eventually so I want to be on hboot 1.5
Edit: one thing I haven't tried is leaving it named PG86IMG.zip and placing it on the SD card. But using 1.5 is that safe to try?. I'm thinking it will work because it is a sprint phone. It has sprint branding. It is just on VM. Let me know what you think

Follow the instructions in this post since you are S-OFF already. I recommend the JBear 1.50.5050 instead on the 1.50 hboot since that doesn't need to be unlocked to run extended fastboot commands.

[Q] How to S-OFF with hboot 1.58?

Have you already installed a custom recovery?
If so, flash the rooted stock ROM from this post then go directly to Step3 of my root/S-OFF guide. You will need to download and unzip the Sprint version of the all-in-one file, but don't even try to flash the RUU that's included.
Once you are S-OFF you can flash the Virgin Mobile RUU then update to current firmware by installing the OTA's or flashing the firmware only zip files.

OK, somehow I missed that you are Sprint not VM.
That makes it easier actually. Just follow the guide from the beginning and post in that thread if you have any problems. That procedure should work for you regardless or whether or not unlimited.io supports it and the worst case is that you might have to flash the RUU again and download their Linux version and LiveCD but that's not likely to happen.
Good luck!

You're doing fine if you got to the wire trick.
That error just means the timing is not right or the wire isn't making proper contact. Try watching the videos in #1 of the tips and references section for Step3 if you haven't already, and sometimes it helps to use a lower capacity SD card if you have one.

[Q] How to get RUU to run?

I have a messed up copy of 204 on the phone. It starts but will not finish the upgrade to 206.
I have been s-off, s-on, locked, unlocked, tampered with. No matter what I do the RUU starts and returns an error saying I have the wrong version on the phone. What do I have to erase or change to get the RUU to complete? I have even tried after installing an early copy Viper.
You have to flash hboot back to 1.15, it happened to me too. The RUU version needs to match the hboot version on your phone.

Didn't know that about H-boot. That's actually very useful to know
How would I go about flashing the 1.15 hboot? Right now I am stuck in a similar position and I cannot get the RUU.exe to work (error 155). I have hboot version 1.33.0001, relocked, with no working ROMs (stock or custom), and a stock boot.img

Could you shoot a picture of the hboot on your phone for me just so I have a better idea of what I'm working with.
Also a direct quote of the errors would help, especially telling me which RUU you flashed.
I help a lot of people out with similar problems to this issue and the exe RUU is REALLY nice because the external sdcard method made it impossible for me to manage that part of the process remotely when it was done as a zip.
Do you have a link to the post? I have tried using the Droid DNA Toolkit to flash the 1.15 hboot, but it will say "fastboot.exe has stopped" on windows 7 64 bit. The drivers are installed using HTC Media Sync. I dont what to do
In case you don't see my other post in the link in my sig is the post with the 1.15 hboot.img (which is version # 1.33.0001)
the 2.04 hboot.img has the same version # (1.33.0001) so it could be possible that you have the 2.04 hboot and not know it
side note* 1.15, 2.04, and 2.06 are the OTA release #'s and they are not the same as the hboot.img version #'s
I have downloaded the RUU several times and it just won't run on my computer. I have windows 7 64. Trying to Unroot - Error 140 Bootloader Version error

Hey folks I was able to re-lock my HTC Evo 4G LTE, and now am trying to unroot it by running the RUU_JEWEL_CL_JB_45_S_Sprint_WWE_3.15.651.16_Radio_1.12.11.1119_NV_2.87_003_25007_release_299302_signed RUU.
Unfortunately, after letting it do its thing for awhile, I get a Error [140] Bootloader Version Error.
So installation does not complete and I obviously still have *tampered* on my bootloader.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Just found this thread with someone that has the same issue as me?

Are you S-on or S-off?
There is no 3.16 RUU, and may never be, for that matter.

You might need to get s-off to use vipeRuu I know it doesn't make sense but that's the only way to do it since there is no 3.16 RUU, or use the method from dirty racun, which will downgrade your phone to a custom hboot to do the s-off process and your phone will still showing tampered-relocked message... but will be completeley back to stock unrooted...

BTW, I went to the VipeRUU and it looks like only Linux is supported. I use Win 7 x64
No, Actually vipeRuu is for Windows only, Viperboy never had a chance to make the script work for Linux, not that I know off, so you can use it, I was a tester and I'm pretty sure it's for windows only,,,
Sorry, I wasn't clear in my message. To use VipeRUU you need S-off. In order to obtain S-off I need to use DirtyRacun which is Linux only.
I've read somewhere that some people has been successful using dirty racun on a Windows machine but you won't get any support from the devs at unlimited.io just take the 'sudo' . /' and use fastboot commands in cmd from your dirty racun folder... Good Luck!

[Q] s-off and hboot downgrade advice

all explained from the title, recently, my htc sensation screen became dimmed and i having a hard time using it, then i got my mother's evo 3d as a replacement
i want an advice in s-off and downgrading my hboot from 1.53.0007 to 1.49xx , so that i could install and try kitkat and many other rom :good:
1. currently i am already un-locked and rooted my evo 3d
2. if i want to downgrade my hboot, should i s-off my phone first ? wire trick by junoputbear right ? or is there any other way to s-off my 1.53.0007 other than wire tricking it ?
3. in wire trick method, im having a hard time deciding the right tools for doing this, i have a win 7 installed os laptop and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507616 that rom installed in my evo, it is said that i have to be on stock rom, could i just do this on that rom or should i flash other rom ? if its not possible, could anyone show me the right rom ?
4. if and if only i've done all that s-off stuff and so, could i use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172 to downgrade my hboot ?
and after that it will be a yadda yadda yadda piece of cakey for me to flashing rom right ?
i'm sorry for my bad languages, trying my best here >.<
The wire trick is what you need to do. On the juopunut Homepage there is a link to a Linux live CD. With this you wont have trouble with drivers, just follow the instructions on their page. Aftwards downgrading hboot will be easy.
Two beer or not two beer, that's the question
i dont really get it, should i change my rom first or not ? in junopoutbear its recommended to 'verify - You are on Stock RUU (not FreshROM, Stock Rooted, HarmonyROM - none of these will work!)'
I had a same situation with you. So RUU is the package to install a stock rom through a pc. Here you can find RUUs. According on your bootloader you own gsm evo and you must download a Shooter_U ics for your area provided on the link. In order to run the ruu you must relock the device in fastboot with "fastboot oem lock" command. After the ruu finishes you can unlock the bootloader again and do the unlimited.io procedure. If your evo is vodafone branded (like mine) your cid blocks the ruu and you cant flash, for this situation I suggest you to flash Yoda ICS and do the unlimited.io procedure, I did it with Yoda.
Sent from my Evo 3D using xda app-developers app
Before installing ruu try the wire trick with your current configuration.
Just follow the instructions on juopunutbear page.
You may need several attempts to get the right timing.
