Hi all,
Today I dropped my S3...on my bedroom carpet and although there are visibly no cracks or scatches on the surface of the screen when I went to unlock it the touch screen wouldn't work and there is a small black area in the top right hand corner. Just now I tried to see if it would work but found that the colour of my screen has turned to a blue hue
All the buttons are still working fine
The phone is still under warranty so would going the samsung service centre be worth a try?
or would I have to get the screen replaced or something, what are my options?
Any estimates on approx costs too are appreciated!
Thanks
Photos if that helps...sorry for bad lighting x-x

The screen will need to be replaced, take it to samsung. it won't be covered by warranty though

My wife broke her screen on Friday and we went to a local shop to get the screen fixed yesterday.
This morning she mentioned that she thought the color on the new screen was different. She also pointed out that the buttons at the bottom didn't light up the same.
They practically don't light up at all.
The screen seems a bit dimmer as well. Not as bright and clear.
Is there any way that I can find out what kind of screen they put in her phone short of threatening to bulldoze the shop unless they put the right screen in?
I'm more than capable of dissasembling the phone without killing it and now wish I had but wifey wanted a working phone *today*
Can anyone help out? Are there any part numbers I can use to see what she's got now?
can you take a picture of the phone from upwards, and from sideways (to see if the screen is thicker than it should be)
sounds like it's a regular LCD screen

not without taking it apart first
You can tell if its LCD by how deep the blacks are.

definitely got shafted. you got an LCD screen. i'm pretty sure the local shop orders their parts from eBay or some chinese supplier. those screens are usually LCD even tho some may claim its amoled. the only way to get a genuine Super AMOLED screen is to contact samsung to replace it. i remember reading somewhere than samsung is not distributing their Super AMOLED screens to 3rd parties

I used to be a cellphone technician for a short time and I can tell you that we fixed screens on a lot of touch screen phones... but all the parts are dirt cheap chinese knockoffs!!! There is NO local shop that uses original OEM parts!!! unless u send it back to tmobile or etc!
to answer short and accurate u didnt get the same screen ur vibrant came with!
^$%#
Now I really feel like a total idiot
Good Day folks, here is the long and short of it.
Galaxy s 2 fell and the screen broke
I bought a new screen
Replaced the screen BUT two big problems occured.
1. The screen appears to have less colours than my original screen
2. NONE OF THE SOFT KEYS WORK, HOME, MENU AND BACK DO NOT WORK.
Number 2. is the big problem. Does anyone have any idea how these buttons work?
Even when I press the buttons directly with my fingers with the buttons off they still do not work.
Im baffled. Please help.
I also have attached pictures of the button area
It happened to me, I removed the screen, I replaced from beginning and it worked...
Hi Collado, do the white things behind the buttons have any electronic functionality or are those just things to make it stick?
To all future readers. I found out what the problem was. Basically,
The home, back and menu keys are all connected to a single ribbon. It appears there is a tiny piece, connected via the back key. That was torn while i was ripping off the the screen and digitizer.
See the picture attached
How much did you pay for your replacement screen and where did you get it. My digitizer is broken due to a drop. My front glass is perfect but the digitizer is completey shot. How difficult was this project?
Hi Johnboy
I cant remember the price of the digitizer offhand but make a check on ebay.. that is where i got it.
Difficulty is high as you need the minature tool set to do this effectively and a gentle touch.
However, it still appears as though the screen I bought has less colours.
Sorry to jump in and unintended hijack
I also dropped my S2 and cracked the screen, and after checking around dropped it in to the Geek Squad at CPW. Who duly replaced the screen and digitizer for £80. Only problem is the screen seems less bright and if moved off the central viewing angle the screen dims, as if it wasa standard lcd and not the orginal AMOLED screen. Does anyone know if they make lesser screens or was it fitted badly.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
DM.
I would go back with it and complain. If you dont get satisfaction then do an impression of the guy that goes into the pizza shop in "rise of the foot-soldier" film.

So after using a bedside clock on my tablet at night for a few months, it seems it has developed some burn-in issues!
It was set to shift the time every 30 seconds or so, but apparently that didn't work as some small places a part of the number still displays. Right now it's a few spots but it went from one spot to a few over time, and I'm worried it will only get worse!
I have already tried leaving on a white image, cycling R/G/B colors, and leaving the Tab off for ~14 hours, but none have had an effect. I have done an online chat with Samsung but as this is out of warranty, they just told me the phone number of the nearest repair center. As I really don't want this repaired, and would rather just buy a new one, is there any way this can be fixed?
A have a (bad) picture of the worst spot in which it has burnt in, hard to tell but it has been circled and is barely visible in the pic. If you look in the red circle just below the center there is a spot that appears to be brighter, this isn't due to the pic but rather the screen itself.
Help anyone?
So my girlfriend dropped her s3 the other night , the screen stays off ( does not light up ) but the touch sensors still work, we can answer calls on it by knowing the approximate location of the answer button, any thoughts on what the issue is ? I would prefer to repair this at home rather than make her pay money through a shop, thanks in advance

It is easy to replace broken GLASS.
but i think you will need to replace screen.
If you purchase assembly of glass, digitizer and screen it will be very easy to replace by yourself.

The glass isnt broken, perfectly clean with no scratches cracks or nicks , it just wont light up;
i had the same problem once, had to be sent to samsung (or wherever) by the shop where i bought it
buying a display and metal frame (obviously you can't buy them seperatly) plus glass would have cost almost the same
i wanted to find out whether the screen still works and it's a problem with my motherboard or vice versa so i unscrewed all bolts to access where the screen is plugged in on the motherboard but i didn't have another s3 to do the same and check it :silly:
still don't know how amoled displays work so it might be possible that whatever's responsible for backlighting the display broke

My thought was that the backlight broke or maybe the entire display system is disconnected , I might just have to take it apart for an exploratory operation,
before it went completely black there was a purple stain which grew until two thirds of my display were purple, the lower part where it started was black.
then i managed to open this samsung hardware debugging menu where you can check for dead pixels by letting your display light up in red, green and blue. there i found out that only blue and green pixels very working correctly in the upper third. the next day every purple pixel was dead.
so 2 months after this little stain appeared my whole display was in the same state as your girlfriend's seem to be now.
so i don't think this plug (it sits in place pretty tight) got loose and that's why it doesn't work anymore.
and my sister had exactly your problem. she dropped her s2 and it immediately went black
she hat to sent it in as well ...
good luck
if you find out what's the problem and want to share it, i am curious about it as well
If possible, check for loose connectors first.
I don't know about replacing the screen. The sheer amount of LOCA makes it a messy job.
Probably the display is dead. You'd need to replace the screen+glass.
There is no back light on an oled screen.

yesterday my son went back from school with a fissure on top right and the screen remains black.the glass is untouched...
When I connect to pc I can hear a sound and in explorer I see sdcard and memory
I flash with odin 4.2 stock but still same.
so the screen is broken, I see the price for changing screen, it's prohitive. Someone knows a shop who can send at lower price a screen
thank's
I think that there maybe was too much pressure on the screen. Does it remains completely black or can you see backlight? If you still see backlight then the screen could be half defect or the cable could be a bit loose.
I dont know a shop for lowprice screen replacement, sorry.
at beginning it was very tiny enlightened on the left side and now no more...only the two down buttons who got light
no more backlight. I hear the sound when I press the buttons...
If it's more than 60 euros to repair, it's not interesting to do it
buy a used s2!
