Is there any way to change the permissions on an app while being on my computer?

You can use ADB. Google for info about that. You would use adb chmod (which you can also find out more about in Google)

Do you have root? Superuser installed? Did you not allow root explorer in superuser? If you do an adb shell do you get a # or $

I know for sure i am rooted, i grant superuser permissions but when I hit r/w it doesn't change anything
EDIT reinstall of root explorer fixed it, im dumb haha

*THIS IS FOR UNROOTED/LOCKED/S-ON* EVO 3D Devices.. Should work for any H-BOOT version
First of all,,,
see this thread to gain TEMPORARY ADB ROOT ACCESS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1329220
*DO NOT REBOOT*
Secondly..
Download attachment and unzip to your ADB folder
*please backup your original Vending.apk first*
go to your ADB folder by command prompt (copy line by line, except the #, this indicates you are in ADB ROOT mode)
adb shell
# chmod 555 /system/app/Vending.apk
# rm /system/app/Vending.apk
# exit
adb push Vending.apk /system/app/
adb shell
# chmod 755 /system/app/Vending.apk
# exit
Try to run new market from your device, if errors, try reboot
Thank me if this helps you... it works for me...
Also, if it reverts back to old market, simply run the Vending.apk and it shall overwrite...
otherwise you can delete the marketupdater.apk from /system/app/ *thanks to j4n87*
Delete marketupdater.apk from /system/app ...then it should stick after restart.
Works fine for me snd it seems a lot more smooth than earlier versions.
(+ dns fix found on the portal)
Edit: new features:
New setting: Auto-update apps (presumably, sets all apps to auto-update mode, woohoo!)
New setting: Update over Wi-Fi only
New setting: Auto-add shortcuts (automatically adds homescreen shortcuts for new apps like Honeycomb)
Smaller font
New app drawer icon
Microphone (voice command) button in search menu
Star rating chart on app pages
Minor UI tweaks

Didn't Stick for me either... I'll try Deleting the Updater Apk!
There’s already a flashable .zip in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328883
Just flash via clockwork.. I’ll upload it here too.
I just downloaded and installed over old apk and it works just fine. Phone rooted but no extra steps needed

That's what I did haha
I updated this like I update every system app. Simply replace it in /system/app fix its permissions and reboot. No need for anything else, and it didn't get replaced with an older market either.

This always works too!
Forgot to mention...
this step is for those who is UNROOTED, LOCKED & S-ON...
You can achieve TEMPORARY ADB ROOT via the 1st step, and follow the steps accordingly..
If you are ROOTED (UNLOCKED), you can install the apk directly...
Cheers
Is there a list of commands somewhere for the terminal emulator? Please and thanks.

No.
But to see some of the available:
Code:
busybox #prints available busybox commands
ls /bin #prints all files in /bin
ls /usr/bin #prints all files in /usr/bin
ls /sbin
ls /usr/sbin
OK, how would I change the su perms for an application?

sorry but I don't understand.
Is it:
You use su to become root.
You may use chmod to change permissions on a file
You use the superuser app to change witch apps that automatically approves or denies superuser access.

I have my phone rooted and I have tried CWR and twrp. Every time I remove apps with titanium backup or manually remove via root explorer and reboot the apps show back up.
My phone is rooted because I can use root checker and also command line to confirm that root access is enabled.
Anyone else see similar results?
We don't have s-off yet...meaning you can't write to the system while booted in the OS. That is why root explorer and titanium backup changes aren't sticking. Apps need to be removed while in recovery. Look around and there are a few de-bloating zips people have made. Just flash them in recovery and you should be good.

This is correct. What you need to do is boot into recovery (power on plus volume down) and select recovery with the volume and power key. Then, open up a command prompt or bash shell (make sure the ADB directory is in your path variable -- if you need help with this post here) and type:
1) adb remount
2) adb shell
3) cd /system/app
4) ls -- this will list all of the apps for a list of removable apps download the debloater tool in this forum and open the batch file and look at the .apk files listed.
5) rm app_name.apk -- replacing app_name.apk with the name of the app.
6) rm app_name.odex
7) repeat 5) and 6 for every app you need to remove.
I made a .sh script that can run in the android shell if you'd like to use that.

The debloat tool was having problems last I checked and it didn't work for me.

This is (nearly) my first post, so hi all !
Before I start with anything else: I searched a lot and found a lot of things, but I'm so newbie that I'm afraid to do anything because I don't quite understand what I'm about to do.
Oh, and I don't speak english natively so forgive me if I make any horrific mistakes
With all that said, let's begin with my problem...
I have a HUAWEI Y300-0100, and it comes with a funny feature: every time it can't connect to WIFI a popup message appears saying that if you switch to data plan charges may apply.
I am constantly switching between WIFI/no-WIFI zones so that message really bothered me, and I searched a way to disable it.
Presumably, the only way to do that is by modifying a system file called "build.prop". I already had my phone rooted so doing so wasn't very hard.
I used Jota+ to change a setting from "true" to "false" (ro.config.hw******), and saved the file in the root of the SD card. Then, with ES File Explorer, I renamed the "build.prop" in /system to "build.prop.bak" and copied there the "build.prop" I previously saved in the SD root.
All seemed to be fine, except that after rebooting my phone it could not get past the HUAWEI logo.
Android recovery mode seems to work, but I don't know how to use a lot of its options nor I want to do a Factory Reset if there's a better alternative.
Is there a way to modify system files before booting Android? I really would like to try to delete the "build.prop" file and rename the "build.prop.bak" back to "build.prop".
Does any of that make any sense? What do you recommend me to do?
Thank you very much for your help!
From within recovery open adb
adb pull /system/build.prop /some/location/on/PC
Now edit build.prop back to how it was
adb push build.prop /system
adb reboot

Thank you for your response!
I managed to restore the original build.prop, but the phone still doesn't boot.
..Maybe that wasn't the problem. I guess I'll factory reset...
--------------------------
After that it STILL doesn't boot. I have no idea what happened, I did nothing strange apart from editing that file :crying:
If you changed something in /system factory reset won't work
Try either fixing permissions in recovery or
adb chmod 644 /system/build.prop

Next time be sure to make a backup before you modify
For now wipe clean and install a new ROM or return to stock
