Hey all,
I recently updated my device to JB from ICS and I have suddenly started to enjoy my phone more than ever.
I want to share some things I've learned and liked the most:
1. Speed
The phone is notably smoother. It is way faster going from 1 home screen to another. Going from home screen to the menu etc...
The menu pages too scroll faster.
2. App drawer customization
Just today I discovered an amazing thing. I can customize the app drawer. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to leave Android land..a person gets lost in the menu, looking for that one app.
3. Apps perform better
The Twitter app for instance runs really smooth as compared to ICS. No app crashes whatever.
4. Memory management
I purposely leave many apps running in the background and the phone performs equally fast.
I'm posting this to share one's experiences with JB. There may be something I might have missed. Please feel free to add it here. Also, let's make this thread a complaint hub too. If u have any glitches or any issues, post here. A solution will come about.
I hope some mods won't mind me posting a thread here. BTW, I had plans to buy a WP8 phone, either the 820 or 8S. But as of now the plan stands cancelled.
Thanks all the great Devs here and therazrguy for making this possible.

Very cool, man! This only increases the anticipation for the arrival of this update officially elsewhere.
And how's the battery life?
The update is a huge improvement in the refinement of operation. Much quicker and smoother to make things happen.
Only issues I have noticed, had a couple reboots.

Battery life is more or less the same. Lasts about 6-7 hours with heavy use.
And what amazes me is the fact that this is a complete ROM. Everything works. I wonder how.
Overall its just an amazing experience. I cancelled my plan to get a WP8..

Is it? I've had absolutely no reboots. Not even one. The phone does stutter if u try to do more than two tasks at a time. But recovers in no time..like if I start Twitter and Chrome and then immediately go to the home screen, I won't see any icons for a couple of seconds. That's about it..

I believe the first time it happened was while listening to Google play music.
Second time I was browsing web while listening to music.
Have had apps randomly shut down as well. Just a few times though.
A major leap forward from ICS though.

You might find your app in your phone by typing the first letter or letters in the "search" blank jumping out every time you happened to touch its down-right corner.

Also, one more thing. The app drawer customization isn't available on any JB. Neither S3, Galaxy Nexus NOR the Galaxy Tab.

How do you mean by customize app drawer? I didnt get that...
Well, I assume this trick has been working since gingerbread.
Did not remember whether I had tried that with Android 2.1 or earlier.
And you got plenty chances to surprise that with your friends.
Little bother to use search to find an app even it is on the last page.
(Maybe google noticed that so they removed search from the soft buttons since ICS)

I'm guessing the first and obvious difference is that it won't have Verizon apps. Otherwise I wouldn't know. sorry. But I'm so happy with this ROM that I cancelled shifting to WP8.

I have a custom dock and icon pack that is in a zipped file. The instructions say to "The docks and icons in the folders meant for custom launcher such as launcherpro, adw launcher, go launcher and so on. Don't apply with cwm! Just extract the zip file in desktop." but not much else...

Yes, I am running on my LG Optimus V. It has run smoothly so far (one fc, minor) but does have a minor issue with the app drawer. On the LG, the screen is kind of small and the apps extend up into the header area (Apps | Widgets) and the lower bar doesn't show up at all. Doesn't seem to matter much to me, I am pretty happy with it and think the guys did a great job on it. HCL looks pretty cool too.
This launcher works great on the Atrix, the devs are doing a great job and they've promised an ICS lockscreen for this week.

The only smooth launcher is motorolas own launcher, every single market launcher is unsmooth when scrolling, is this true for everybody else? Does anybody else know a launcher which would scroll smoothly on our razrs?
Launcher Pro works flawlessly, before and after updating.

Yes horizontal scrolls are lagging for me
I use go launcher ex and it is smooth as silk. Blows every other phone I've ever had away. Makes my GF's DX feel ten years old, and even my DX2 is slow in comparison.
Using Launcher2, the stock Android Gingerbread. Seem OK to me. The default Motoblur also OK and not bad at all.
I am not picky about the smoothness of the icons' scrolling, just what one of my iOS fan friends told me. The overall system performance, reception and stability are more important than menu scrolling. IMHO.
Thank you.
If you want smoothness then you should go for a WindowsPhone, but ADW Launcher is coming close. In fact, even launcher pro has been running very smooth on the Razr so maybe there are some settings you've missed?
Go launcher, ADW and launcher pro all work smooth for me. Both horizontal and vertical scrolling are flawless.

I believe ADW is so smooth due to the fact it uses harware accelerators. Go Launcher simply runs off the phones RAM so it can become laggy at times.

Pretty sure Ander Webs said hardware acceleration is not utilized as it breaks backwards compatibility. That's close to quotable. It was on Google+. He wants to use it but to fully upgrade ADW it would have to be a separate app.
Again guys, use the terminal suggestion I mentioned. Works wonders. Takes away redraws as well.
Here it is for those that don't Google:

It's just as easy as the bionic man. Put Safestrap on afterwards, make a backup immediately, and you're fine. Safestrap is a wonderful safety net. Boots into recovery everytime. As long as you make that stock backup you're good.

You will have to scroll down through the comments to find Ander Webb. However, it's a great read, so I would recommend reading the entire article and all of the comments.
EDIT: Here is his quote: "This is a great post, I wish 99% users would read and understand it. But unluckily they just want their hardware acceleration turned on and the magic powers of it doing everything fly.
On a more technical note, I've noticed how expensive canvas operations (save layer, porterduff filters, etc) run about 2-4 times faster in software layers than hardware layers, and noticed how great hardware layers perform when using drawing caches.
The bad part is: for a developer, usually there's no easy way of changing the rendering pipeline while maintaining backwards compatibility. So I end up still doing almost everything on a canvas and loosing the benefits of the hardware acceleration for new devices: (" --Ander Webbs (ADW creator)

Haha, but mines does not work at all ever since all the updates. Has been really annoying having to log on to FB using a web browser (I use Chrome Beta or Dolphin. I see you're using Good (notification) - does it still work after you rooted? Thought it had a root check built in.
Ever since I switched to this phone the xda app becomes horribly choppy and slow and will eventually crash after some use. I've cleared cache and data, but haven't uninstalled and reinstalled yet. I've just been exiting and manually fc'ing every time it begins to get slow.
Have those that are getting high usage statistics experiencing this too?

It happens to me too. It force closes on me once in a while when I'm on the app for an extended period of time. Using the ad supported. If the ads are indeed draining the battery faster, I might end up getting xda premium.

i had the fc issue for a while but just had to clear cache. It hasn't happened for quite a while. I have ad version and have NEVER seen it use power like that! At most 3%
Something has to be wrong here, haven't seen cell stanby that high either.

I'm using XDA Premium, and I'm definitely getting the choppy scrolling, too. The app becomes almost unusable. It's ridiculous, because my Evo 4G ran the app like a champ. No battery drain, but the scrolling lag is getting on my nerves.

Yes I was using Good for almost a year on Vibrant which was rooted and it worked well. It seems working on Galaxy S3 too after root. Have to see tomorrow if sending and receiving emails work. Its corporate email, so today being Sunday not much work email traffic.

Yeah I too have noticed that on the ad supported version. In fact XDA is the only app that lags occassionally on this phone. I hoped may be adblock will resolve it, but since you are having premium I guess not.

Cell standby is high cause it was overnight and I was sleeping. So thats expected. But its really abnormal that 40 mins of XDA app has drained more power than 54 mins of screen on time!
I'm not sure if this is related or not, but I have noticed what I believe to be high app caches for the xda app. Just checked and it is 56mb. That's a bit excessive, isn't it?

Mine gets high occasionally and i clear cache. Am a gnex. Wonder if cache is also downloads from threads? I also noticed apps don't really close out when exit. Will be same exact spot as left them. Maybe that's the high cache..?

Interesting thread, I've never seen that before, it certainly is acting rogue.
I'm using Tapatalk, the paid app that the xda app is built from, and I have no issues with it consuming battery, nor has it given me any kind of choppy scrolling. Tapatalk, being paid, contains no ads, so that does make me think the ads are at least to blame for the high battery usage.
I would contact an administrator from xda and ask them about it.

I don't get choppy or have high battery usage, but occasionally get force close but i think i may have just figured that issue out. I use the free one, not taptalk but just had a fc and haven't had one in while but I wanted to share an app to another thread so hit home key, went to play store, found app, did share button but since xda doesn't show up in share list I'll pick another app just to open it then cut the link and THEN use my recent apps key to paste. I think its either from not closing out all the way and having another one open while accessing it from recents. Just a thought, at least from my end and how I use different settings to open stuff.

EDIT: Another possible fc reason. whenever I get a notification in status bar and I attempt to open it there it goes to the app but never opens the thread or anything so well click my icon on home screen then force closes.
Figured I would start one so people have a proper place to talk about it.
Inb4 people asking where to find the builds, they can be found on goo.im or the goomanager app that can be acquired on the part store. They can also be found on his github under his forum name.
I would like people to know that every device is different. If you don't occur one of these bugs, then you are fortunate. If someone brings up something that i do not know about, i will add it to the list
Known bugs (that i know about):
-Google Hangouts ~ Video but no sound
-Sound is out of whack in 8/23 build
~Possible Bugs
-some have also said their Wi-Fi wasn't working
-possible hardware acceleration breakage
Users must be on CWM 5.8.4.8 (non-touch), 5.8.4.3 (touch) RomManager Recoveries Page
OR
TeamWinRecoveryProject (TWRP) 2.2.1.1 TWRP2-i717
Else user will see "abort 7 errors."
If user is able to flash CM9/CM10, and get no abort status 7, yet still is having problems with a ROM itself, the problem is not likely the recovery image being used.
Many users have used the latest CWM and TWRP (mentioned above) to flash all of the latest ROMs, including: CM9, CM10, PA, AOKP, GB, ICS, etc. without any problems.

Build #10 is out
http://goo.im/devs/h0tw1r3/SGH-I717/cyanogenmod/10
New Gapps at http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/eos3/gapps/gapps-jb-20120802-eos.zip
And I'll just place these right here too
gapps-jb-20120802-eos.zip
Gallery2.apk
Just making sure, since I haven't seen anything discussing it, but no one else's camera is working? I get the error cannot connect to camera, just like when I had the Atrix on ICS.

there was a camera-related commit last night, so maybe they figured it out. We'll just have to wait and test the next nightly that has it.
Torch worked for me when I ran it.
Video Accel. I think is broken.

I agree on the hardware acceleration but i didn't want to put it in the OP until i got more opinions on the matter.
Torch is blacked out in the notification settings and my flashlight app won't turn it on either.

I can confirm torch working. Quite nicely, in fact. On CM9, there would be some lag trying to turn it on. Turns on instantly in CMX!

Is it just me or does cyanogenmod have a shaky relationship with cameras? Its nearly a deal breaker for me. Is it possible to put Samsung camera on CM?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I think it has to do with drivers. When ICS came out, almost no one had a working ROM with camera.
Anyone having a problem with YouTube going all grey in landscape? In portrait mode its fine.

I've updated the OP a couple times since the thread was created.
I personally am also having trouble with landscape mode in YouTube, but i took a screenshot and it came out fine in my gallery. So it must be in the display drivers, might be related to the hardware acceleration, and the video i tried to watch earlier didn't load HD or HQ when i tried it earlier, I've been watching anime so i haven't tried any more videos

The tabletUI kicks in too low... the gui looks awful at 172 dpi. Particularly notifications.
Thanks for starting this thread. I can't figure out Goo.im interface for the life of me lol..
I tried out the rom briefly (twice) and my experience with it is as followed:
Not working: Camera, Google Now, LTE not connecting [only Hspa (5%) and 3g (95%)], and Youtube, MXPlayer, Super Video in landscape had gray grainish playback. And weird thing when you flash and boot, in setup screen there is Emergency Call: Mother. I don't know what that means but it was weird.
Otherwise, the rom is super fast and smooth. However I think JamieD81's rom was much faster and smoother for whatever reason.
Keep us updated when next release hits

when you say google now, what exactly do you mean? and the LTE can apparently be fixed by changing your bearer to LTE in APN settings and possibly changing the interface from ipv4 to ipv4/ipv6.
no idea about the emergency call but there's something with the build that has to do with the landscape being gray, i couldn't give a cause with my current knowledge.
and about goo.im, you just have to go to to devs > h0tw1r3 > SGH-I717 > unsupported for the cm10 stuff
