[Q] reassign camera button - Nokia Lumia 920

My wife has had her 920 for all of 40 days and dropped it yesterday (they are slippery as a bar of soap). The screen cracked diagonally across the lower left hand corner, disabling the touch (the display still works) in that area along with the back and start buttons. Without one or the other of those two buttons, the phone is practically unusable; you have to power cycle between anything you want to do. As an interim solution, I was wondering if it was possible to reassign - through the registry - the camera button to provide either the "back" or "start" command? This would at least make the phone usable until we figure out how to get it fixed or replaced. Thoughts? Peace. Thanks.

At&t 8525 will not power on with the power button

The power button has been a little fussy...requiring a hard press to power up but it had been until today. Button does not give a tactile "click" when pressed. Out of warranty. Opened it up...the microswitch isn't "clicking" Used a needle to jump the switch and it is now powered up but would like to know
1. is it fixable? (I don't solder and haven't a clue on where to get the microswitch)
2. Does the main board have to be replaced to fix it? Where can it be ordered?
3. Does anyone know of a reliable place that can either fix the switch or replace the board? I'm not going to deal w/ At&t; this was a replacement for the white screen of death and until today; it's been perfect. Everything else is working, perfect screen, case, keyboard. Battery stays charged for 12+ hours even w/ bluetooth running for over 18 months.
You cold look on ebay for a "broken" Hermes. I got a couple and found there wasn't anything wrong with them.
I don't know where you might be able to get a microswitch from but it will require soldering to fix. Unfortunately the Hermes motherboard is multilayered and this may mean fixing yourself may not work. Taking it to someone WILL cost $$$ so be sure to try and pin them with a quote for parts and labour before they "attempt" to fix it.
Good luck...
Power button screwed ..any HELP!!
Hi Friends,
I screwed my HTC Hermes power button while trying to fix its earlier problem.
Now to turn the backlight on ..i changed the settings and I can now use any button to bring it out of Sleep mode....
I used a program available on this site to enter bootloader.
However, the problem remains when "power button" is to be pressed.
Any advice on how to get over the "Press power button" to start the ROM flashing....
I found the part on celluardr.com for 32.00 which I think is a little expensive! They may be able to change it but that will cost $$. A possible solution is to clean the switch with an electronic cleaner solution that evaporates very quickly. I suggest you remove the battery with the case open to expose the switch - really mean remove the back casing to expose the motherboard and with the tube attached to the spray can squirt in the solution. Press the switch in before the solution dries - you may have some crap that got in there and is sticking up the switch mechanism. Dirt will do this.
QUESTION: What program/changes did you make to change the phone's ability to recover from sleep mode? I'd like to preserve the power button on mine and use another key that can be replaced without changing the motherboard - Ie the front phone buttons.

Hi stim141,
Thanks for your suggestions.. i shall give it a try and let you know the progress (if any)
ANSWER: From Start-> Settings-> System-> Key lock
Change the settings here to see that NO buttons are locked when in STANDBY/ SLEEP mode - when backlight turns off.
This will help to bring the device out of standby/ sleep mode.
You can have the device lock enabled so that when in sleep mode no functions are activated if any button is pressed accidentally. when any key is pressed ...it just shows you the UNLOCK option.
Also, I read somewhere, sliding out the keyboard slightly also wakes the device.

no navi pad

so as most huge problems start out, I got what I thought was a good deal on Ebay.
it's a touch pro that they claimed worked great but the touch pad wouldn't respond. All other controls functioned normally and only 4 months old.
4 months is pretty close, I got the touchpad working by re-soldering the 4 connections on the ribbon cable. but the navi pad only responds in the up-down directions. none of the other buttons on the front work, call buttons, home, back and enter all stay black and do nothing. What's strange is that up and down work
I reflashed it with a stock sprint ruu. then hard reset a couple of times. Nothing helps. I'm trying to get my hands on NAVDbgTool.exe, but i think that will only tell me what I already know. it's not working.
any ideas?!!
try to get the whole assembly. on eghey. also i heard there was an website that specialized in getting htc parts. i cant remember the url though.
I just missed a whole keyboard, screen, and everything a friend was selling. The whole top half of a phone, would have been just what I need.
cracked navipad
So, If any one has an interest in this. I think I solved what's going on here.
we know that the navipad is touch as well as having hardware buttons below.
my up and down directional buttons work fine. but no enter and no home ect. Home, back, and the two call buttons have two on either side and then the directional left and right. so in the left and right sides there is only 1 hardware button on each side meaning that it relies on touch to know where your finger is when you're pressing to know what function to perform.
I got looking really close at my navipad and holding it at angles near light i can see really fine cracks on the left side. So I'm guessing that it being broken is keeping the phone from getting a touch response so it can't assign a function to the press if it doesn't know where my finger is.
but the enter button is also touch sensitive and only works for the first few seconds of the boot cycle or when the device is off and doing a hard reset with voldown+enter+power.
So, at least it's a simple fix if I can find a directional pad somewhere.
Touch pro and Diamond interchangeable?
Does anyone know if the directional pad / Navipad of a Touch Diamond is the same as the touch pro? att fuze looks similar, but looking at a close up picture its obviously different.
I have a similar problem...please visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561892&page=2

[Q] loosy screen, volume buttons problem

I've recently purchased this great device from ebay and found out that the screen is a bit loose on the top. it's only something about 0.5mm and doesn't bother me at all. but the problem is that the volume control external button doesn't sit perfectly on the internal buttons so sometimes you press and they don't work.
I've notified ebay seller and he told me that's a known problem and that he could fix it for me. I just wonder if it's a small fix maybe I can do it on my own and save everyone the hassle of sending it back and fourth.
picture attached.
Mine does the same thing but it affects my proximity sensor. I have to push on the right upper corner when I want to hang up during a call, otherwise, phone thinks my ear is still up against the phone.

haven't tried that yet, so I can't tell if it's a problem.
I've had the same issue, both with the proximity sensor and the volume rocker. For me the top of the rocker is very loose and has to be pressed hard to get it to recognize. The proximity sensor, I found out, has a little cutout adhesive that is supposed to go between the sensor and the digitizer/lcd assembly.
Sometimes this gets shifted (for instance, when someone breaks their screen and decides it's a smart idea to replace it on their own like I did...) and you have to take care to place it back where you found it or you end up having to press the right corner of the screen to end your phone calls.
If anyone figures out how to repair the issue with the volume rocker, hit me up. I'm already knee deep in this thing, I might as well learn something new while I'm at it.

Right side of screen unresponsive to touch

I noticed today when i woke up i cannot press the right side of the screen and get any kind of response. It is only about a thumbs with of the right edge but this prevents me from being able to hit send on text messages on the default messaging app and also on go sms as the send buttons are in the same general location. Is my phone just FUBAR or is there some way i can resolve the issue. Have tried power cycling and thats about it. I guess i need to know if this is a software issue or a hardware issue and if there is any way to find out and fix the problem.
I've been having the same issue actually. In the bottom right corner, anyway.
Like when I go to attach a picture to a text message, I have to hit the text box first so the paperclip button is out of the corner. I've also had some trouble unlocking with the camera or touching it from the Navbar, where it's positioned in the bottom right corner. :/

I have similar issues with that when my phone is plugged in. And my acreen often locks up kinda with the last image on the screen being the only thing you see until you reset.

I don't think I've had an image stuck to my screen yet. I have this problem even if it isn't plugged in, which is really strange. Not sure why it's so unresponsive, takes several tries to unlock/select.
And kudos for being in Portland too! :good:
Have either of you found a consistent way around the problem or a way to resolve it? Also are you running the phone in the base state that you bought it in or is it rooted / unlocked?
I just tested my phone, by opening the browser to google.com (mostly white background), all around the edge of the screen. And I can see feedback animations for all my touches around the edge of the screen. So I don't think there is any problem with the touch digitizer, at least on my phone. Phone is still stock, rooted and TWRP.
I have touch animation when I touch the bottom right corner on the lockscreen, but it doesn't always drag/ripple out. Sometimes it acts like I've pulled my finger off so I have to do it again.
Rooted, unlocked, stock.
After touch responsiveness got increasingly worse i contacted AT&T and they are sending me a free replacement since these issues seem to be covered under the one year warranty. Just throwing that out there in case anyone else gets as frustrated with the problem as I have and cant find a permanent fix.
I can confirm that I am having very similar problems... it is getting worse.
I am stock rooted and unlocked.
It is getting harder and harder to press things, fling actions (like scrolling through a list) hardly move a thing.
I just installed a multitouch visualizer and whenever I have 2 fingers on the screen and then go to cross them (start with fingers in opposite corners, move one up and the other down until they pass each other in the middle) it actually loses both fingers and then sometimes only one pops up again on the screen.
Can anybody try an app like this Play Store Link.
I've had similar results with 2 other multitouch testers.
Is it my phone, or everybody's?
----EDIT-----
Figured I would install the Base ROM (7.0>7.3) because either it was a software issue and maybe the ROM would fix it, of it was a hardware issue (I really didn't think it should be acting like that) and I would try to get it replaced.
The Base ROM fixed my issue (for now, fingers crossed).
Now using a multitouch visualizer, the contact points are always seen, even when the fingers cross.
Don't know what caused it, but it was software (at least for me).
----EDIT----
Just plugged in the charger again... now the touchscreen is acting strange again... this phone does strange things when plugged in...

[Q] Screen quickly auto-dims and shuts off

I've had my T-Mobile HTC One for about two weeks now. Maybe 4-5 days ago it started to auto-dim the screen very quickly (after only a few seconds) and then a few seconds later it shuts it off, and I have to unlock it. This has gotten highly annoying. Under the display settings I have auto brightness off, and the auto sleep turned off as well (currently set to 15 seconds). Is this a software issues, or possibly faulty sensors?
I also have a couple other minor gripes with the hardware, namely the sleep/wake button is slightly depressed on the right side meaning it takes more effort if I push it on that side. I can push the left side no problem. This makes me nervous as I'm afraid this button may get stuck and it's the only way to turn the screen on/off since this phone lacks a "home" button like the GS3/4. I'm thinking more and more that I may need to just get a replacement, but I don't want a refurb. Any input would be appreciated.
