Did my searches, the closest answer requires an unlocked bootloader. Ok, here is the situation:
Aim: I want to backup GB without losing my apps + data.
Root: No
Bootloader: Locked
Will this work?
1. Update GB to ICS (assuming it doesn't upgrade my apps to some ICS-compatible version)
2. Root ICS without losing data.
3. Backup data with Titanium Backup (again, hopefully ICS doesn't change my apps + data)
4. Unlock my bootloader (yes, it'll wipe my data)
5. Flash GB using flashtool
6. Restore app+data using Titanium Backup
7. Install CWM
8. Do a nandroid backup
Thanks XDA
I guessed nobody had a clue on this matter, so I experimented and failed miserably.
1. I updated from GB to ICS
2. Rooted
3. Backed up with Titanium
4. Unlocked the bootloader
5. Flashed pulak's Fluidity ROM to get a sense of its speed
6. Loaded titanium backup and backups are MISSING!
I lost my backups because Titanium backed up to /mnt/sdcard which was later wiped by bootloader unlocking process
Use the method to root gb
Thats simple
Now since u have a rooted gb
Install cwm and make a nandroid backup
Is that so difficult??
Its not like that u can do everything widout rooting
We root our androids for a purpose and one among this is what u r asking for

How to backup the whole ROM included installed Apps to SDCard , so I can restore it whenever I have problems .
thanks
No neee to back up the whole ROM, just apps and data with Titanium Backup Pro is good enough. I usually do it before flash new firmware. Piad version of TBP is rock, need less than 10 to restore 180+ apps. But u need root to use it, either with Chulri's method or Urukdroid..

How do ou backup my system defult rom without having to unlock the bootloader?
I think you might be able to use clockworkmod recovery to make nandroid backups without rooting.

You might be able to use ROM manager or ROM toolbox as long as you have root your best bet would be ROM toolbox since I'm guessing ROM manager is gonna want you to install cwm 1st and I'm pretty sure the would need unlocked bootloader

You can backup all your apps and settings with titanium backup Just with root access, but you'll need nandroid to backup your whole rom, which implies to use a custom recovery, which needs an unlocked bootloader.
Rom manager does'nt backup anything on itself, it Just uses CWM.

Dear community,
actually I am not quite sure if i should change from stock ROM Android 4.0.4 to a custom ROM like KA10.2 Xperia [4.0.4]SSpeed or [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I recently updated from stock 2.3.7 to stock 4.0.4 and luckily all my apps, userdata, configuration etc. were restored perfectly (nice). I know this wont work for a custom ROM (because unlocking bootloader needs to wipe data).
Without root I am not able to use Titanium Backup and I am not sure if MyBackup is able to backup the data for all Apps? At the moment I have 152 Apps installed and for me its very important to save the gameprogress from Dead Space, Modern Combat 3, GTA III Uncut and so on.
What can I do to backup everything like in Titanium backup? I also want to backup all data from "face unlock" because I optimized it so much (with beard, without beard, with cap and without, differnt hairstyles etc.), how can I do that ?
I think your only option is adb backup then. But it's not too stable...
I just did this the other day.
I used the stock Backup & restore app. It creates .smec-fullbackup in your sdcard and can save all your apks, texts, contacts, browser, etc. The only issue I had going to KA10.2 was that it did not have the Backup & restore app. I was able to pull it from my nandroid of stock ICS. I believe it was called Backup-wizard.apk.
edit: I am unsure about the face unlock stuff. I was able to backup some apks and restore them with my save data.

OK at the moment I am sure the ROM I will chose is [4.0.4]MooDeD ICS 90.6. I created a backup with the integrated backup tool. Does anyone know if stock backup app is integrated in this ROM? Otherwise, krazyazy can you upload this .apk anyway ?^^
You can stay with stock ROM and root if you want. Flash ICS Advanced Kernel using fastboot, turn on, wait, turn off, Flash original ROM Kernel with fastboot (if you extract the kernel) or with flashtool and voilá! Root on stock!
I use stock ROM and Advanced ICS Kernel Its nice!

I think the actual issue is with unlocking the device, because the op states that they don't have root and mentions that unlocking will wipe data.
i want to root my desire X, i want to know what all i need to do in order to take a full system backup to restore it again (if ever required for updates etc.), & also which Recovery is best for JB, i don't want to install any custom rom, i need root to run some apps....

1. Sync your Account to Google.
2. Install the 30 days trial of https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&hl=en then after Rooting you can use Titanium Backup Free or Pro.
TWRP is good for JB.

thanks for helping, it worked, one more question, do I need to take a complete backup (data+ system+ boot) everytime I flash a zip so that if anything goes wrong, I can restore, & also how can I remove a zip which I flashed, for eg. I flashed Xperia launcher, but its buggy, how can I remove it? I tried uninstalling it with Titanium backup but it shows up again after restart..

Its good to take Backups!
To remove Flashed Zips, Edit the Updater Script in the zip file and add the rm or rmdir command for the files that were added.
Check which all files were added and where. Remove them manually or use the updater script method I said above.
