I just took the plunge and jumped on the leaked OTA (thanks to spc_hicks09 for the painless instructions and info). Kept root, updated easily. I know I'm new here but I figured I'd start this post to give some thoughts and ask you all what other quirks, improvements, or missing features you've noticed in the new Jelly Bean update.
Here are some of my personal observations so far.
I noticed this morning that there were no more rising alarm sounds for the alarm clock so the thing blared at me this morning. My girlfriend was off today and wasn't too happy. Sure I can download (and pay) for an alarm clock app (hate ads), but it's annoying when they remove a perfectly usable feature from a new build.
For anyone curious, it's well known that FoxFi isn't working for mobile hotspot but I've confirmed that the free WiFi Tether app works with root to connect my Nexus 7 (using auto profile). I am getting 4G speeds on the Nexus 7. I have not tried it on a Windows laptop yet. Occasionally the app will have a problem starting up tethering, but a reboot of the phone clears things up and it works fine.
Initially Google Now said I needed to update, but I got an error being unable to update Google Search saying it was incompatible with my device. I cleared the data in the Play Store app and was able to update it successfully.
Boot up sounds are much louder. Not a big deal, but annoying if you decide to reboot your phone at work. I know what it is, does my phone really need to scream DROID! at me when I boot up?
I've heard people say the opposite, but my radios are working much better. There is less delay when switching from 4G to 3G and back. When you're moving around, it seems to acquire new cell sites faster as well.
Overall the phone appears MUCH faster/smoother and it doesn't get choppy or freeze up like it did before. It feels almost as fast as my Nexus 7 so it's not just hardware. Project Butter is doing its thing and doing it much better than ICS.
I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life yet.
The Razr doesn't have lockscreen widgets like other Jelly Bean devices? Maybe I'm missing them somewhere but I haven't seen the option to enable them.
I will update with more impressions the more I play around with it.
Lock screen widgets are in 4.2 but not in 4.1.2. Same with quick settings and photosphere

Escalating alarm sounds were a welcome addition when ICS hit, but I still liked the GB alarm clock the best. Now trying "Alarm Clock Plus."
Do not like Google NOW for voice search AT ALL!. Slow to activate, inaccurate results for voice dialing, and no "try again?" when it does mess up. Have to manually re-start. I want the old voice dialing back.
I also want the Voice Search to work like the old system when I say "Call..." and a local business. The old system dialed immediately, or, if confused, gave you a list of options. NOW pulls up the record then you have to hit the button to dial the number.
EDIT: OK, this seems to be working. I may not have been waiting long enough for the "built-in-pause" that was present, but more visually apparent in the old system.
I also had to update Google Search, as each time I started it, it thought it was the first time, and would go through it's "setup tutorial."
Boot up sounds were annoying, but I'm running RAGE ROM now, and no startup noises. Not sure if the ROM removes them or if my problem with the ROM upgrade (long story) caused it. Either way, I'm glad they're gone.
EDIT: If you use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/media/audio/ui you can rename (or delete) the startup ".ogg" files.
Operation does seem smoother and faster generally.
Battery life seems about the same for me, but my usage varies wildly form day to day, so it's hard to gauge.
I've read elsewhere that the SQL hack is the only way to get reliable tethering.
Andy

Firstly welcome ...
I too am a curious mind like u and took the plunge...believe me..I've cancelled all my plans to sell of RaZr..(was gonna but low end WP8)
Anyways...
Here are some of the things I've observed...
The page to page scrolling is fantastic...and I meant FANTASTIC!
so is going from home > App drawer and back.
I really like the feature of customizing the app drawer...I can pick the apps I want and put them in one folder (though I'm told this existed way before JB):

Same issue here. Running Only1 base. I have to clear app data every week or it gets stuck repeating the route from the state I was previously working in. The map directions are accurate, but the voice keeps saying to turn on a road from the previous week. Over and over and over again. Crazy.

Same problem, Galaxy Nexus VZW on JellyBean, was having the issue on ICS as well. Did an uninstall/clear cache...worked for a while, and then started repeating again. Only thing that fixes it temporarily is clearing the app's data.
Happens to me once a week. Go to applications in settings, force stop maps, clear data, and reopen maps/nav. Problem solved. Its getting very annoying though, to do this once or twice a week.

I had the same problem on the Team Perfection ROM, in addition to it not using my Ivona TTS voice or speaking street names. Clearing cache and data didn't help, neither did an uninstall and reinstall from Play. What DID work however, was installing an older version apk I found (which kept FC for some reason), and then updating that version from Play. (Sorry, I don't recall which version it was, but I downloaded it from Aptoide.) After that, everything worked perfectly again. I noticed other people complaining about the same problem in Play's comments section. Really strange, but at least it works again for me.
Settings > Language & input > text to speech output.
Changing this to Pico TTS fixed it for me.
This has been happening on my phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.1.1 JB AOKP build 2) on and off for a few months now, it first started happening right before android 4.1 Jellybean was officially announced. *It was at that precise time that the voice for Google Maps Navigation changed to be the same voice that Google Now uses in Jellybean. I remember there was a period of time where I would hear both voices like they hadn't finished converting all of the speech over to the new voice. It's been ever since then but this problem has been happening, I have noticed the clearing cache seems to sometimes stop it from happening only to return again randomly.

I had a Galaxy Nexus from the time it launched until about a month ago. I switched to the RAZR Maxx and love the phone, but couldn't wait for ICS. Having gotten it today I have to say I'm once again super happy with my device!
Only downside? No Disable button on many of the Verizon/Motorola apps. One of the things I love most about ICS has been disabled by Verizon I wonder if it would be possible to re-enable the option, or would it just be better to use Titanium to backup/freeze? Really sad.
Anyone else really disliking this?

Then I guess it's a good thing I never said that "None" of the apps have a disabled button, eh?
Currently I count 12 applications that I want to disable. Most for battery life, but some purely because they get in the way (I'd like to reduce the number of buttons in places and keep certain things from running in the background and consuming resources).
I guess, for now, the only option is Titanium Backup until someone finds a way of enabling the button on all apps.

I have been able to disable any app I wanted. If it won't let you once you drag it to "app info" because "disable" doesn't pop up in the box, then uninstall updates for the app and then disable. This worked for all the apps I couldn't directly disable.
If you go to the app info, You should see "Force close" and "disable".
If it isn't there, then maybe wait for a newer version of ICS. Trust me, it is still there

What's the problem w backup assistant? Just don't log into it. It won't use resources. How much more battery would it really give you. I'd like to disable Backup Assistant too because even if you've never logged into it, it is always running in the background.
I can understand that but I think y'all are going a little overboard thinking you are going to notice a large difference. These are my attatched screen shots of running services for today and battery affected by them. Ba+ uses 3mb and doesn't even show up in battery usage as a real drain at all. Seems like your splitting hairs. If 3mb ram is really that important just use the 1 click root and freeze all with titanium.
I'm not talking **** so please dont misunderstand, it just seems like a lot of effort. Leave it alone and not logging into it won't hurt. I get 5-6 hours of screen on time on 4g. Solid benchmark scores. Great running phone and ba+ isn't even a concern.

Then you should know how to freeze or uninstall bloat through Titanium Backup. I usually backup and freeze the bloat I don't want, then after testing I will delete said bloat with the ability to restore for upgrade if need be.

Who said there's a problem with it? I want to disable it...why does it matter my reasoning? The truth is, I just like running a clean ship. I like keeping minimal applications open and minimal processes running. It's not because I want to save a lot of battery or CPU, it's just that I want it to be easier to manage directly. I'm not sure why people are trying to dissuade this type of thinking...this forum exists for people that want to customize their devices.

Ahh, you must not have read any of the posts on this topic (including the first one). I know exactly how to do it using Titanium (both by doing it through the app or switching them to User Apps and doing it through the system), but I was looking for an alternative way to do it natively. I'd rather do it natively because I like the easier management available through Android. A higher level of reading comprehension would have saved you the trouble of posting.
As for the "What apps do you want to remove?" question, here's a short list:
Apps (the verizon app)
Backup Assistant+ (all 5 of them)
Device Setup
DLNA
Downloads
Emergency Alerts
Face Unlock
Flickr Authenticator
Guided Tours
In Case of Emergency
Kaixin001 Authenticator
LastFM Authenticator
Mobile Hotspot
Motion Detector
MotoCast ID
Motorola Dock Service (and the helper service along with it)
My Files
My Gallery
My MotoCast
My Music
Orkut Authenticator
Photobucket Authenticator
Quickoffice
Smart Actions
Smart Actions FW
Social Location
Social Sharing
Vehicle Mode
Verizon Remote Diagnostics
Video Calling
Webtop
So, as you can see, it's more than 1 or 2 apps that I want to remove. None of them make a real impact on my battery life or CPU usage, but together they would free up a bit of both and make the phone just run cleaner (which I like). I've always done it through Titanium, but with my Nexus I was happy to be able to do *ANY* of it through the Android apps dialog. Verizon sticking their grubby fingers in there and removing that ability is an annoyance to me.
I know there are other threads out there about this subject, but figured I would bring it here to the Razr threads.. Who would like to help me get S Voice working on the Razr? I installed the zip that I got at another thread and it doesn't work 100% yet (likes to hang on stuff...)
I'm still not an experienced Android hacker/coder, but would be willing to help out one if they wanted to take part in this project..
I do have Linux command line experience, run Linux, and have had a few years of webOS hacking So I'm not a total newb to the game lol
Let me know if you would be interested in helping me with this
Thanks,
Patrick
After a few reboots, S Voice is working better. On Board mic has not worked since install though, Bluetooth works fine..

As this contains no development.
I fixed the issue with the mic not working, seems to be an issue on my end and nothing to do with S Voice.. Only thing left that I can think of before we can call this 100% working, is changing it from launching only stock apps, to the apps that you set as stock (I.E. Google Voice for texting, whatever you have set for calling, etc.)
Certain things like saving alarms and memos and such will not work unless you have the corresponding clock and memo apps from SGS3.
Really its not worth it. Aokp and cm will have jellybean merged within the month more than likely.Google Now does everything s voice does but way better.
I used s voice for a few days and was disappointed. Give it a few weeks and just use Google Now

Do you really think that it isn't worth it? Granted, I've yet to use Google Now, but I really like S Voice.. And I think it would only take minor changes to change the path of the app launched for things like that.

I really think its not worth it at this point. Its more or less just a themed Vlingo with system app access (to sammys system apps).
Wait a few weeks and run Google Now ( or read over this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045). They have GoogleNow running on ICS but i think it has something not working last i checked.
I SHOULD have a modded Svoice that me and some people here at xda worked on when i had my Razr. Worked just fine other than saving alarms and memos. Ill look and see if its still in my dropbox and link here if it is.

The Google Now that they have working is missing voice recognition (something about it being Jelly Bean specific kernel stuff) and that's the only thing keeping me from using it.. The only thing
Ah. Yeah that's a major setback.

Does Google maps find your location? Cause the nav is part of that app.
The google maps app finds me where ever I am.. the nav doesnt ever get gps info. It hangs for hours never connecting. Navigation the blue arrow on maps..I get no step by step directions voice. But the map connects I can see destination and directions list..

Try either clearing data from maps app in app manager (the bigger of the 2 files) or uninstalling and reinstallation of maps. Try the first and see what happens.
I cleared google maps.. then deleted app reset phone then reinstall..I get google maps to lock my position but no navigational voice direction..I reasld somewherebto give mapquest a go..and mapquest is winner. ..for the momment

First things first, download gps status and see if you get a lock on some satellites and the data at the bottom refreshes, if not let us know.
which cleanROM? Weren't verizon note 2 users having problems with the univeral cleanROM and GPS? If so, I'd try the verizon specific cleanROM
Gps status no luck.. just hangs looking for sat signal. And its the 4.2 version of clean rom based off of international .. im cool with using map quest.. it works great. So does google maps just navigation sucks. Im stickin with the clean rom 4.2 pack for now. Just figured someone had a work around for no gps issue in nav. Thanks for responding guys

If you got nothing in GPS status then you have a GPS problem, not a navigation problem. Backup your rom, flash Beans, just get it far enough to download GPS status again, get a lock with all the relevant info at the bottom, then restore back to CR.
i was having this same exact problem, i switched to jelly beans now everything works fine

Yeah this. Idk how you're getting a maps lock and not a GPS status lock. But you need a solid lock for turn by turn to work. I was simply thinking you had a good lock. I always use GPS status to check lock and then proceed to use the others. What he suggested works. I did it back on clean rom 3.whatever and haven't had an issue since. However I also took Scotts advice and literally wiped everything about my phone when coming from beans. I'm talking Internal and external SD. Backed it up first of course. Somethjng between em doesn't play nice.

It works because maps will use the Cell towers and wifi to lock on alone, but many apps will require a true GPS lock (Ingress and the Nav app come to mind).
You don't have the experience or credentials to be claiming GPS is "broke". I hear this same stupid crap with every phone I get, and it's always someone like you.
It's not a Clean rom nor Note 2 issue. You're obviously doing it wrong. I don't see how some people have so many issues with phones. It's always noobs like you as well. Proof:

Man I understand the frustration...I do but there was a time even you didn't know jack about phones. Yeah maybe he should've searched but he didn't. No need to bash him so hard. Questions are how some people learn. Myself Included. I see so many high and mighty Devs who are too good to help people with problems yet have no problems bashing people. Its like the nerd in school who was a nobody and is now a somebody but with the worst possible attitude.
never claimed gps was broke, the phone just never picking it up,i never said i was a hacker or a phone programmer just wanted to get some phone freedom rom wise, thanks to the other guys (blackbass) and scott himself for helping out, i went to the verizon lite rom and it worked like a charm, i only brought it up here, because i remember reading awhile back in these forums, i honestly feel great that you took the time to root around in my profile, i feel better that you took the time to do that and not actually help, Blackbass you made a great call on deleting and reinstalling maps, did lock on faster to my local, but no dice on the navigation front.
its working now..maps +navigation thanks again all for helping

So I finally got around to messing with my phone, and decided to see what it could really do for battery life! I'll try and be specific as possible about all of the tweaks that I've performed, but feel free to ask any questions as well.
To start out, my phone is rooted and is the Verizon version. Throughout the 50 hours, I was a little more conservative with usage than usual, but not overly so. I also used Titanium Backup to freeze and uninstall system app and VZW bloatware. In addition, I used a utility called 2x Battery that automatically turns off my 4G data when I turn my screen off, but enables it every 15 mins to pull down notifications. I also utilized wifi at home and kept the brightness fairly low (which I didn't find to be an issue because the screen visibility on this monster is great IMO). Another thing that I did was uncheck the 'Wi-Fi & Mobile Network Location in the Location Access Menu.
First of all, here is some proof! 50 Hours, 14 Minutes - With 6% battery left

The following are screenshots from the battery menu of the things that are taking the most battery. In order of how much battery they used, here they are:
Android System (33% battery usage)
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Cell Standby (15%)
Screen (12%)
Android OS (10)
Ok, so that is what the top usage on my phone, and I'd like to list out the settings I changed in Titanium Backup. I guess I'll give the generic warning that I'm not responsible for you messing with your phone, and you should make sure you know what you are doing so that you don't brick or ruin your device. That being said, I have seen very little or no negative effects of the items that are listed.

So I would love to get some feedback as to how people think that we can continue to extend battery life on this already awesome flagship device! A few questions that I have:
Android System is using the most battery. What else can I safely disable to optimize this? Are there any that you see that I froze or removed that I shouldn't have?
Are there any other hacks that people think would be beneficial to try out?
What do you guys feel about disabling location services and/or auto-rotate?
Thanks for reading, good luck maxxing out your own battery!
Constrabus like! I've only seen up to 44 hours on my N4. Once on cm, you can pretty much guarantee at least almost 3 days with these settings.
Great sharing, I starred it for future reference, thanks

Thank you for posting the list of apps frozen and uninstalled. That said I love slide aside and wifi storage. How do you not use those?
To me I just don't see the reasoning behind Slide Aside. If I hold the home button it shows the passive running apps, and I just switch from there. But I haven't looked into it too much, what else do you like about it?
Also, how about the wireless storage, is that just an auto upload to your desktop? I use Dropbox to auto-backup my pics and videos, and music is backed up to Play Music. Most additional stuff like calendar or task list app are Auto backed to their own servers or Google's.
I'd love to hear more about the benefits of these apps, I'm always open to changing things up!

Good job!
Nicely done.
For those that think you need root to accomplish great battery, I am on track to pass 33 hrs without root. Screen @ 40%
I've found the best way to increase my battery life is to turn of wifi & mobile network location, but that basically renders a variety of apps, including Google Now, useless.
I believe it. I been averaging 18hrs every day with mine but that is being used a good bit throughout that entire 18hrs. I usually keep my screen at 25% unless I'm outside and its really sunny. WiFi and all is off and I have quite a few uninstalled apps thru titanium.

Just wanted to post this awesome battery life my phone has gotten after 4 charge cycles. This is better than my droid max I recently purchased. Anyone who says this phone has horrible battery life is either a liar or has a defective phone.
This is with 90% 4glte and brightness set to auto 75% baseline. Not turning anything off. I work a lot so screen time isn't that much but who really uses their phone for 6-8 hours a day? That a quarter of your life spent on a phone each day. Any ways great phone not much to complain about yet

You can, actually. If you use Titanium Backup, you can uninstall anything you want. You freeze apps in case uninstalling them breaks something, or it may be something you want to use in the future. A lot of the time, people will freeze an app and run it like that a few days. No issues? Uninstall the mofo.

I root uninstalled a lot of apps. Most were listed in the OP here. But I ran into 1 tiny little problem, that is causing me to factory reset and redo everything... I don't know what app it was that I uninstalled that causes this, but every time I would plug in a headphone jack or usb cable, it would show the animation at the bottom, but "pop and plug" (or "plug and pop", I forget) would force close. No other side-effects were noticed. Anyone have a clue what app uninstalled would cause this so nobody else makes the same mistake? I unfortunately did several apps simultaneously and did not notice the issue until much later.

Plug in pop is just an app that launches short cuts of apps that would use headphones. If you dont want it or the F/C just use titanium to uninstall plug and pop

Mainly because a lot of the times we freeze apps we think we don't need, and by freezing them if you find out later having that app frozen caused issues, you can simply defrost it rather than trying to locate and reinstall it.
I've not disabled as many apps as you, but I make heavy use of Greenify to hibernate apps I don't want running in the background.
I've been off-battery for seven hours. I spent about two hours streaming Jim Rome earlier in the day (I can only take about two hours of Romey) and playing with the browser for a bit over lunch. I am at 89% with an ETA of 39 hours until the battery dies.
Very, very impressed with this phone's power management.
I want someone to try and just leave the fone on standby without using it, possibly leaving it in Airplane mode lol
