[Q] Opinions on Elite Kernel OXP??? - HTC One X+

I have made this thread as I am interested in peoples detailed experience with it and have made this a place for people who are also interested in the kernel to quickly be able to gather information.
If you have tried and or are using nik3rs Elite kernel can you please post your impression here
what the battery life is like compared to stock for example?
what the performance is like? ( is there any noticeable gaming performance improvement or decrease in performance etc etc)
how stable is it?
exclusive features it has ?
and most importantly the ROM'S you are using it with successfully
ISSUES you have experienced when using it (bugs)

The thread for the kernel is kind of massive (second largest thread in that sub forum in fact). Surely the information you seek can all be found there?

Well, at first sight this seems to be a rather staightforward question with an obvious answer at hand. But if you dig deeper, than you'll find it more difficult to choose among the various possibilities. Here are some hints.
A. Roms
(1) Stock rom from Samsung (newest version is currently 2.3.6).
As far as I can tell and reading about other users experiences, it has the best battery running time. And performance wise I can't tell any disadvantage or lag either.
(2) Roms based on Ketuts kernel found in CF-Root.
(2.a) CF-Root b82 version and below
The system performance regarding battery and lag should be the same, because the kernels are stock (by Samsung) ones. But in reality the modder of the rom package may have used some scripting tweaks (init.d) or heavily themed the look. It may make the battery running time and/or the responsiveness of the system better or worse. But any modifications also bring the risk for bugs (wlan, sim-toolkit, ...).You should skip through the corresponding thread and find out.
(2.b) CF-Root b82.ex version and up
From here onwards Ketut has begun to tweak and build his own kernel based on the stock kernel configuration parameters (/proc/config.gz).
(3) Roms based on Cyanogenmod 7
This is an unofficial build of Cyanogenmod for the s5830.
It is well known, that it suffers under a battery drain issue. On the other hand you will get the most out of the device regarding lagfree performance. Recommended for heavy gamers at the cost of battery duration.
My recommendation is now that you goes from (1) to (3) and try them out to experience yourself, which package does really fullfills your/her needs. Because no one can tell you for sure, which rom is the best suited for you, because it is a matter of personal taste and preference.
Here you can find some introductionary materials into the world of modding to make the s5830 a better device accommodating to your needs.

B. Tweaks
(1) Make battery last a little bit longer.
If you're really serious about finding ways to extend the battery running time, than you should read the whole thread, because usefull informations are scattered and not only in the OP.
-> [Hint/Tip]Best way to save battery
(2) Lagfree scripts (only applicable to rooted device with init.d enabled)
This scripts may also contain some tweaks, which will claim to also raising the battery running time of the device.

What's the point of custom kernels for CM7/9?

This will likely be a controversial topic, but I'm going to risk it.
Also note that this is not meant to be a jab at kernel developers, or an attempt to lick CM developers' balls.
I have just been thinking. Custom kernels often claim an improvement in battery life or performance with their kernels. With Samsung ROMs, this is believable. The case of the fuel_alerted bug not being fixed with Samsung ROMs is an example that Samsung kernels aren't the best.
However, with Cyanogenmod ROMs you would think that the developers of CM would know best, since they *probably* work far more intimately with the code than custom kernel developers. Has anyone found an improvement in battery life with a custom kernel as compared to the stock CM kernel?
Now, I'm aware that custom kernels offer some features not found in the stock CM kernel, like how dual-booting is available for Siyah. But let's focus on battery life and performance for now.
Again, this is not meant to be a flaming thread. I genuinely wish for a conducive discussion on this topic. Lastly let me express my appreciation for both CM and Kernel developers, for devoting their own free time for our sakes.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for as an answer but a tweak i've used to give better battery performance is CPU FREQ_MIN. This is the frequency below which the 2nd core is not used. I don't believe you'd be able to use this tweak without a custom Kernel

It helps, thanks Personally I would prefer to try to quantify battery life with different kernels myself. Most phone review sites choose to test battery life by looping a video, however I do not believe this accurately measures battery life.
If anyone knows of an app that loops web browsing I will be happy to test it for myself.
I don't even care for extra 10 minutes battery life. If you want extra battery life don't use the phone. Lol.

But I bought the phone so that I can use it right?

[Question][Mods] Can an experienced modder/user explain...

Please can somebody with good experience and knowledge explain to me the differences, compatibilities and benefits of these mods, as well as which ones can compliment each other and which ones can negatively affect each other?
The main point is to help anybody like myself understand them and gain the best performances from our phones.
I have a Samsung GT-I8190 (S3-mini), with a class-10 32gb micro sd-card. I'm using AOKP based on cm10.1 by maclaw studio, and a mod called "Pure Performance - golden edition".
Another phone I'm interested in gaining the best performance is my girlfriends "xperia u" which is running FXP cm9.1 (v 216), directinject and cross breeder.
Popular mods I've found and I'm asking about are:
- Directinject (4cyl turbo?)
- V6 supercharger
- CrossBreeder
- Pure Performance / golden edition
- (app) pimp my ROM
So my main question is about those, I've tried each of them before but I would like to know what others think, such as which ones are the best and are compatible.
I would also like to know if there are other performance mods I haven't listed and their pros/cons as well.
I hope this thread gets some good replies and can provide thorough information for people like myself who aren't fully aware of the differences and cautions.
Thank you all for reading and I wish you all a good day.

You'll have better luck asking in the device specific forum.
I can only speak for v6 supercharger, i've tried it on several samsung phones, pretty good and complete but can cause conflict with other performance mods, usually those that tweak ram management (minfree, virtual, etc)

The only one that can judge what is "best" for your device and and your girlfriends is you, and only you.
Here in XDA it is impolite to label things better than others, simply because all devs here in XDA have spend many of their free hours coding stuff for us for FREE, besides there are many threads that people have all ready been discussing about them!
That was a friendly advice!

That's really sweet but my question is not "which one is the best?". Thanks though, and much respect to the authors for putting in the hard work!

Stock vs custom rom battery life??

Generally which provide best battery life?
Also, which individual ROM do you think provides the best battery life?
Stock based roms will provide better battery life than cm based roms. There is no individual rom with best battery life. You have to try them personally.
It also depends upon how many apps are running in background.
A debloated rom will be faster(and battery friendly?).
A kernel is also responsible. There are many kernels.I cannot tell which has best battery life. You have to try them personally.I would suggest to try apolo kernel.

Disagree. I've had much better battery life with AOSP roms on the S2 Vs Samsung-based roms.
OP - there are so many variables re: battery life it's impossible to give a definitive answer/answer for your situation because everyone has their phone setup differently & everyone uses it differently. You're only going to find out what gives you the best battery life by trying out roms/kernels. People who have looked for shortcuts re: this in the past have ended up rather disappointed ('Someone told me rom/kernel X has fantastic battery life but it was crap for me').
I've had much better battery life with AOSP roms.
Just reported this thread, before it is too late If you don't understand why: please read the answer from MistahBungle again.
Best Rom threads are discouraged on xda.

miui vs custom roms diff in antutu scores..why?

Guys I recently unlocked my bootloader and flashed nitrogen
Scores where around 2.4l and I flashed extreme kernel as well and had a boost of around .2 diff i.e 2.6-2.7.. stock miui global is giving me around 2.9l I know the scores are just numbers... But I'm just wondering why the difference.. please refrain from stating a custom ROM is better or stock.. just need a educated answer to this.. Thanks in advance...
on paper its a matter of optimization but in practice oxygen os port for poco scores 266k on antutu but its gaming performance is better than miui 10 roms which score 299k.
because miui recognizes benchmark apps and enables a very high performance profile (or as xiaomi calls it "thermal profile") which makes the cpu, boost to way higher numbers than what you get on aosp roms... (2.8 vs 2.4 iirc) if you find a way to make the cpu boost that high on aosp roms you can get the same score out of it...
although i suggest you never use antutu for many obvious reasons ...
i found 3dmark sling shot extreme unlimited way more reliable and consistent...
MIUI is just superior in every way ?
Thank you guys for replying this quick..sir ,the discussion is why the difference is scores.. please refrain from saying which is better..I do appreciate your opinion but we are here to hear and give opinions on the topic.. Thanks guys

Both have pros and cons. My first Poco stay with stock 10.2.3, but my daily driver goes to crdroid straight after unlock. It's your choice. If you aware of security, go deep in Los derivatives. I think the performance is result of various factors, like tweaking and optimization. Miui gave me rock solid experience with proper performance and good battery endurance, but my personal choise is Los. Stay tuned.
Regards.
I have another question guys... I wanna use root to use adaway and I'm unable to use gpay.. Any roms that I can do both? Magisk hide doesn't do the trick either
I am with Havoc OS & extreme kernel (without any tweaks) in my poco with ~250K antutu score but just using Evalution profile in thermal profile changer app gives a boost to antutu score which is around 295K.
But sorry this is not the answer you are expecting.
