How is that affecting your ocd. That makes it more organized.
Delete them and unless they need to be uses they won't come back.

I already have folders for that stuff. The camera folder already has my pictures/videos. I dont have music on my phone i stream it. I have a few ringtones but i already have a folder for them as well. I dont have a point in having any of them. I know there has to be a setting to stop it. Some script somewhere tells it to do it. I just need to know where that script is.

I think its like, android itself that's making it. Not some easily removable script.

If you are OCD about your sdcard in android, you're gonna have a bad time. There is a protocol for apps to create folders on the sdcard, but very few apps follow the protocol. The sdcard inevitably becomes a fustercluck and there's really nothing you can do about it =(

Just noticed my available space on my internal sdcard is sitting at around 2 gigs. This makes no sense. I dont have any music on it and I have gone through and deleted old pics and videos. I have also deleted old nandroid backups as well as files that i used to flash like roms and fixes.
Any ideas on whats causing this. I am running Kirf custom with voodoo enabled.
Are you sure that, that's your internal sd card and not the external sd card that you are reading off of? If you do have an external sd card please remove it, then reboot your phone, then check your memory once again without the external sd card inserted. Doing so should eliminate any confusion/confusions of you reading the wrong information.

Im looking at the right one. It says phone storage Total space:12.78 available space:1.90. With the apps I usually have installed I remember having at least 7 gigs free. This makes no sense to me.

Do you have a lot of ROMs stored on it?? a lot of game data?
these two things tend to chew up a looot of memory
I did delete all my stored roms. I do have need for speed shift installed I know it installed 150mbs when it first started up but maybe its the game save data then. I just would have thought the videos I was recording would have taken up alot more space than they did.

Just mount your sd to your PC and arrange all files/folders according to size, then browse around and you should find out whats eating your space up
I had a similar problem earlier on, it turns out that one of my database files had some how gotten corrupted and bloated to taking up a lot more space than they should have. I would check the size of your database files to make sure this hasn't happened to you.
So I figured it out. Set file manager to show hidden files. There was a folder called. trashes. Went into the folder and there was everything I ever deleted. Hit select all and delete and I am now back at 12 gigs of space. That folder had 10 gigs of trash in it! I recommendations to every one look into doing this if you are low on space.

You must have a mac, adamboyd. Am I right?
This has to do with the way macs "send" files to the trash can, which is different than a PC's recycle bin. A mac does not move the file from where it was located when you send it to the trash can, it simply places it in a hidden "trashes" folder. This isn't an issue when the files are on your computer, but when you're using your mac to delete files on an external drive (flash drives, or your phone's sd), the file remains on the drive in the hidden folder your mac created and eventually you run into the problem you experienced.
Solution: Always empty the Trash Can before ejecting the drive from your mac. That action searches out and permanently deletes all files located in the hidden trashes folders. If you empty the trash can after you've ejected the phone's sd from the computer, then obviously it won't be able to locate and delete the files that you had "moved" to the trash.
Hope that helps!
Good to know. And yeah I have a mac. I never knew that but I do now.

Also, if you make ClockWorkMod nandroid backups, they can add up fast as well. If you're low on space then you might want to move the older ones elsewhere or delete them from the phone.

Does anyone know if there is a setting that will change which directories, or show certain folders, images, or anything?
seriously. I wanna text a pic to someone and i have to sift through EVERY damn image ive ever viewed on the device, whether it be in app or browser.
Sounds like Gallery might be reading your cache folder or something. You can try and locate it and make sure it has the ".nomedia" file in there or add it yourself. That will stop Gallery from reading the images within. Easy to do, just make a folder in any directory where you don't want the images to be shown and rename it to .nomedia
so, should i just make a random file named .nomedia? or a FOLDER named .nomedia? or rename the folders in question .nomedia?
either use notepad ++ to make a blank file with the name .nomedia
or if you want to exclude a folder put a "." with out the quotes at the front of the folder name. it will not be scanned by gallery. so you can hid your porn in a folder and not worry about it
...and that is what i am trying to hide lol...cause my boss at work was looking in my phone and she saw alot of pics....of me...and yeah...now she looks at me weird.
trololol, you can always say " hey im a guy, and im straight or its going to be gay porn in there instead "
Hahahahahaha yeah you need to fix that

Ummmm ... if you're gonna store pics of your junk on your phone (which is a bad idea in the first place) and then let your boss play around with your phone (another really bad idea) then -- for the love of God -- go to the Android Market, download App Protector Pro (an app that every single Android phone user should have), and lock your gallery.
I use that app to lock my email and text messages . I don't lock my gallery, but then again I don't store incriminating photos on my own phone.
And please, please, please ... don't show your phone to your Mom.

hah yeah. someone earlier said she had a me gusta face...that kinda described it lol. I dunno man. Would be nice. lol. thanks all. Ill try doing this nomedia thing then report back if it works/dont work.
remember to reboot the phone. and download notepad ++ to make the file. using regular note pad may not work
or
Old thread but here is a no Computer needed option:
Download ES File explorer (its free)
Install and open it
Navigate to the folder you want to exclude (remember it propagates down e.g. if you place it in the root of SD then the whole of SD is excluded including all the sub-folders)
Press Menu and select "new"
Select "File"
Call it .nomedia
Rescan your memory Cards
Sorted no PC required

So someone named "superthrust" is worried about pics on the phone?
atleast the name was not analthrust...
I use QuickPic, and it gives you the ability (if you long press on a folder) to exclude it from the gallery view.
My gallery was showing up all sorts of junk from my kindle library and looked a mess.
Now all I see are the folders I want.
Ive been using Vaulty Free. It hides pics and videos you select in its own folder. It also encodes the images and videos so you arent able to open then using any other gallery or video playing app. What i like most is that fact that even if you put the sd card in your computer the images are still encoded and you arent able to view them. The only downside to it is that you have to wait for it to encode the image you want to hide (no more than 3 seconds).
OP you shouldnt use anything to hide your pics, if anything you should give your phone to your boss with more pics in it, then enjoy your promotion. LOL.

Mass storage mod only works for external Sd.
You could use ext4 restore utilities on the phone, but so far I've not had a single positive experience when trying to restore ext3/ext4 contents.
Sorry to say, but your data is probably gone.
good luck, but i dont think your gonna see it again.
Try hexamob recovery.u might be lucky
That is exactly why all my phone stuff is always backed up on my computer and on my NAS...
Samsung hasn't included Dropbox to sit idly.
I recommend the following:
Titanium Backup to external Sd and Dropbox
Dropsync to sync your files during the night
Sms Backup+ to have a copy of Sms/Call log on Gmail
Sync contacts to Google
Of course a local Nas is better if you don't have a flatrate or a slow internet connection.
However then you'll add a further device where stuff can potentially go wrong.
I prefer offsite. At least when your house burns down and you loose everything you know that your party pictures noone cares about (including you) are safely stored away.

Ohhh, come on now. I could do this years ago with early windows mobile versions.surely it's possible to do it now?
Or am I missing the point of this question?
Because no one else has offered any help, I'll offer the general principles (principals?) and see if that helps you.
Use a file explorer like root explorer (for which you don't need root) or astro to find the director in which the stock sound are stored. Download or transfer (from PC) the sounds you want to use and put them on that same directory with the stock sounds. Reset (turn off power) on your gadget. Turn it back on, and then go into settings to set up notification sounds and you should see the new ones there in the same list as the stock sounds to select.
I hope this helps.

Put the audio files on your sd card. Use a file explorer to navigate to the folder /system/media/audio. There are four subfolders in there: /alarms, /notifications, /ringtones, and /ui. Most of what you want to change should probably be in the /ui folder. Most of the files in there are named more or less according to what function they're associated with, so simply rename your own file to match the one you want to replace, delete or rename the current file (you'll need to have the folder mounted r/w), copy and paste your renamed file into the /ui folder, and repeat until you have your phone sounding as silly as you want Individual ringtones can usually be set by opening up a contact's info and editing from there.
This is how I've done things, works on stock Samsung roms, don't know about others. Have fun!

Should I, or do any of you, format, wipe or just completely change out your sd card? Mine has all kinds of stuff on it from all of the roms I've tried but I'm afraid to delete anything off of it in case a program I'm running needs it.
P.S. It's not always apparent what folder is there for a given app.. For instance what is the Cauly folder for?
Thanks
I clean it up occasionally. As for what to delete, I delete things if I think I can our don't use a program anymore. But I keep a backup on my pc just in case.
I always clean out my pictures. I have them synced to dropbox so I always have them saved. I usually keep a sense ROM just in case I need it but now that AOSP has a working camera I don't really use it.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Cleaning out the card is fairly easy, as most apps will create a folder with the app name on the card. Not using that app anymore? Delete the folder.
As far as formatting, sd cards do not need to be formatted like hard drives. Flash memory doesnt get fragmented.
