CSC wipe deleted internal memory.. ANyway to get it contents back? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My brother was playing with my phone and he accidentally installed a new CSC and it deleted all my contents on the internal SD... I got some very important stuff there...As Recuva or r studio dont detect MTP device...anyway to get them back??
Thanks a lot for your help.

What you really meant to say was...."I was messing with my phone and screwed up" ;-)
I think its safe to say kiss that stuff goodbye.

You want the USB mod wherever that is otherwise no chance .

Mass storage mod only works for external Sd.
You could use ext4 restore utilities on the phone, but so far I've not had a single positive experience when trying to restore ext3/ext4 contents.
Sorry to say, but your data is probably gone.

good luck, but i dont think your gonna see it again.

Try hexamob recovery.u might be lucky

That is exactly why all my phone stuff is always backed up on my computer and on my NAS...

Samsung hasn't included Dropbox to sit idly.
I recommend the following:
Titanium Backup to external Sd and Dropbox
Dropsync to sync your files during the night
Sms Backup+ to have a copy of Sms/Call log on Gmail
Sync contacts to Google
Of course a local Nas is better if you don't have a flatrate or a slow internet connection.
However then you'll add a further device where stuff can potentially go wrong.
I prefer offsite. At least when your house burns down and you loose everything you know that your party pictures noone cares about (including you) are safely stored away.

Running low on Space on Internal card.

Just noticed my available space on my internal sdcard is sitting at around 2 gigs. This makes no sense. I dont have any music on it and I have gone through and deleted old pics and videos. I have also deleted old nandroid backups as well as files that i used to flash like roms and fixes.
Any ideas on whats causing this. I am running Kirf custom with voodoo enabled.
Are you sure that, that's your internal sd card and not the external sd card that you are reading off of? If you do have an external sd card please remove it, then reboot your phone, then check your memory once again without the external sd card inserted. Doing so should eliminate any confusion/confusions of you reading the wrong information.

Im looking at the right one. It says phone storage Total space:12.78 available space:1.90. With the apps I usually have installed I remember having at least 7 gigs free. This makes no sense to me.

Do you have a lot of ROMs stored on it?? a lot of game data?
these two things tend to chew up a looot of memory
I did delete all my stored roms. I do have need for speed shift installed I know it installed 150mbs when it first started up but maybe its the game save data then. I just would have thought the videos I was recording would have taken up alot more space than they did.

Just mount your sd to your PC and arrange all files/folders according to size, then browse around and you should find out whats eating your space up
I had a similar problem earlier on, it turns out that one of my database files had some how gotten corrupted and bloated to taking up a lot more space than they should have. I would check the size of your database files to make sure this hasn't happened to you.
So I figured it out. Set file manager to show hidden files. There was a folder called. trashes. Went into the folder and there was everything I ever deleted. Hit select all and delete and I am now back at 12 gigs of space. That folder had 10 gigs of trash in it! I recommendations to every one look into doing this if you are low on space.

You must have a mac, adamboyd. Am I right?
This has to do with the way macs "send" files to the trash can, which is different than a PC's recycle bin. A mac does not move the file from where it was located when you send it to the trash can, it simply places it in a hidden "trashes" folder. This isn't an issue when the files are on your computer, but when you're using your mac to delete files on an external drive (flash drives, or your phone's sd), the file remains on the drive in the hidden folder your mac created and eventually you run into the problem you experienced.
Solution: Always empty the Trash Can before ejecting the drive from your mac. That action searches out and permanently deletes all files located in the hidden trashes folders. If you empty the trash can after you've ejected the phone's sd from the computer, then obviously it won't be able to locate and delete the files that you had "moved" to the trash.
Hope that helps!
Good to know. And yeah I have a mac. I never knew that but I do now.

Also, if you make ClockWorkMod nandroid backups, they can add up fast as well. If you're low on space then you might want to move the older ones elsewhere or delete them from the phone.

[Q] losing pictures

OK so I took some pictures and when I rebooted my phone the next day half of them was blank in my gallery anyone know what's up with that.
Have you actually mounted to a pc and looked on the SD? Are you stock or rom'd? Have you used any 3rd party file managers like Astro to check the contents of the card?

SD card is prolly on the fritz. Or your ROM has read write speeds to high. And if u want to be sure the data is really corrupt put the SD card into the comp with a SD reader if possible not pass thru the phone.

Until you fix the problem you might want to try Photobucket and set it to automatically upload your photos that way you at least dont lose the pictures?..

[Q] Defragmentation for GS2

Hey guys,
My phone was quite fast and responsive when i first bought it. But now aftre 9 months of use i have found that it has slowed down. I shifted from GB to ICS but that hasnt made any difference. The load up of contacts takes especially long.
I was woundering if like in computers we defragment the HD do we need to do the same on phones ocasionaly.
Please let me know if there are apps for this or any solutions.
If u do this u can break ur phone
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
if your device has become slow, you might want to think about performing a wipe / factory reset every once in a while. also, delete contents from your sd card, apart from music, videos and pictures.
defragmenting from a pc won't help, but also won't break your phone.
The filesystem that Android uses doesn't fragment like Windows' one does, therefore defragmentation isn't possible. You could try clearing up some space though. E.g. deleting apps, music, photos etc.

do like mine..
You can download DX Tools Optimizer from Playstore
It's free & has all of the answers of your asking about..
Go thru w/ it & u'll find much fun tools u'll need..
But don't forget to press thanks...

only half true. sure, the filesystem on the system partitions can not be defragmented, but they are not directly accessible from a windows pc anyways, i believe the op was talking about /sdcard/ and the external_sd/ or /emmc/, which usually are formatted in fat32 and can be defragmented. if he copied several things simultaneously, it might even be fragmented.
Check the free space available on the internal sdcard - my Wife's GSII had a similar problem where it would almost grind to a halt. It turned out the sdcard was full, and transferring the photos/videos off the 'phone returned performance to normal.
Thnks all. I think they are good suggetions and i will try them out and let you know the result.

Reset My phone Lost everything !

So i searched the site for a while and could not find anything on how to get back information (really only pictures) after I Reset my phone back to factory. For some reason or another my phone would not allow me to sign in through Gmail even after talking with Google on the phone and confirming my email my locked phone would not unlock. I have to send back this phone by moday but was sent here by a guy from Tmobile since he said this is the Best place to go. I did try using Recovery programs both apps and on PC but was unable to find anything and apparently my phone never backed up anything to gmail ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!
If this is a repost and you can shoot me in the right direction that would also be great but as i said i was unable to find anything in the Amaze section for this !

I was told it was possible to find them in hidden files and would have to root my phone ?
I know the guy from tmobile did the same thing and thru this site was able to locate his videos and pictures ? (not all of them but most)

How did you attempt to recover the files with the recovery programs? Also, the more you use the phone, the more likely the deleted files will get overwritten with other junk files.

Most likely, it meant it stored the photos on the phone's internal SDCard. You should try installing Recuva, its an another recovery program. After that, connect the said phone to the computer with an USB cable and it should ask you to choose a connection type, and then choose "Disk Drive" to have the phone mount both of its internal and external storage to the computer. If you press start and then select computer, it should display 2 additional drives, both of which is from the phone. They should show up with their drive letter (Such as F:, G:, I:, K or something like that.
With the said program, choose it to search all pictures, and as for the location, select "In a specific location" and then choose the drive letter the *INTERNAL* storage is at. The drive letter is usually also represented with a label of HTC_STORAGE or INTERNAL, or something similar. After selecting the location, you can optionally enable deep scan, but it will take a long time.
If it does find something, the most important thing is to have the files transferred to a *DIFFERENT* location, such as your computer's hard drive. It is NOT wise to transfer the files onto the internal storage until you have transferred all of the found objects to a different location.
After you have transferred the files to a different location, you can optionally put the pictures back on the internal storage, or leave it on your computer. The choice is yours.

There was a program I used to retrieve my lost data. I gotta find out what it was called.
Recovah ftw. Works with android and windows.
Checkout filehippo.com I recovered files that were written over More than a few times. you wont recover everything but it's your best bet. I have heard this may work on your SIM as well but you need to get your pc to see the SIM as just another drive or something. I was able to read my sim info on another phone of mine dont remember what the program was called. Recovah is the best and...it's free, no malware, bots etc.

Questions about Whatsapp backup/restore

Hi guys, usually when you're going to format/change another roms for your phone,
how did you backup your whatsapp chat/pictures/videos ?
(Not to mention the newer version of whatsapp that can upload to GD)
Because usually what I do is connect phone to PC and copy the entire Whatsapp file to PC, once I done format, copy it back to phone and install back Whatsapp and restore.
But I notice that some pictures might be gone or replace by other pictures twice or above.. but the chat history is ok
Any solution to fix? or this is normal situation?
You will be hard pressed to get a good answer. Most here have stopped using whatsapp almost a year ago and have moved on to more secure options.
Well most users in the states. I know it is popular in other countries. Like India. Maybe one of those members will have an idea.

Any idea guys?
Any helps?
U should install titaniyum backup. apk from plystore and backup all apk with data.or u can back up only data when u installed a new rom or new version of whatsapp.
Try it dear
Just move whatsapp folder from your internal storage to sd card and then after flashing move it back to internal.
Or use titanium backup.
