Bad flash during root, how can I fix it...? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got an ATT SIII and I attempted to root it with Odin. The progress bar got to about 25% then failed, now I can't boot my phone into the OS. I followed every guide I could find to fix this but every flash fails at ~25%. I can get into download mode, so I should be able to correct this, right? What should I be doing?
edit:
Ok, I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727443
I followed the steps, Odin passed, and when I boot I see the Galaxy S III splash screen, then the screen goes blank and the led stays solid blue. I can still get to download mode.

First of all get to the AT&T s3 forum this is for the i9300 only flashing anything here will brick your phone.

"you're" would be the correct grammar
nah man, I certainly don't want to be a mod. I am just surprised by people's thinking. Like "hey, here's the Q&A help and troubleshooting forum, should ask ask a question there? naah, imma just post in general". It's not even funny.
And I am perfectly fine if you don't like my posts, I don't care about that.

@OP: definitely it is (as mentioned before) Q&A thread, first.
Secondly, I would like to pass my personal congratulations to you, as you tried to flash the firmware form another phone and you have confirmed that it would brick it.
Last but not least: be careful and do not apply your way of life while refuelling your car, as diesel into petrol or vice versa would have more severe consequences.

[Q] Unroot with Mac for Noobs

Noob here,
I've looked and looked and haven't seen anything definitive. I have a Samsung GS II (I-777). Someone had rooted my phone for me a while back but now I want to un-root it. I only have access to Mac and have NO idea how to. Everything on here seems to be written in a different language lol. What's the easiest and most simplest way to do this? Sorry if this is repetitive. Thanks in advance!
Rooting is such an easy proccess. Looking at you, I would not recommend it doing by yourself. Rooting will not get you on any legal issue other than warranty cancelation. If you still insist look at the stickied threads in this forum. I myself would like to explain it, but I can't explain it better.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA
Not sure if a virtual machine of Windows would work but I would give that a try if your hell bent on un-rooting.
My question is why do you want to reverse a good thing?

What I meant was that rooting is easy to do. And nothing negatives comes out of it unless you want to get the phone back to store... Since it's a mac and he doesn't have much knowledge of rooting, just let it be.

Well, "looking at you" made me go Whaaaat??? myself. Odd snap judgement from reading one post, which was pretty well phrased from what I saw.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434020 which should help - and this thread says it should work with MacOS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. You'll need to do some more searching and learning (start with the sticky at the top of the general forum). If you don't feel confident doing this, then don't. You really aren't going to gain anything by it unless you have a specific need. Or expand on what you're looking for and maybe we can help.
BTW if you don't use it, the difference between root and unrooted is zero AFAIK. Root just lets you do more, but it's still stock i777 if that's all "someone" did.
Well, the thing is, the root that this person did (not me lol) has disabled my wifi. It's the ZedomaxStockKernel. I did some research on this and it seems that using this method renders the wifi useless. I clearly don't know what I'm doing but will read more in regards to this. Again, I've had the phone rooted for about a month now and I haven't done anything different. (Maybe because I don't know how) I wouldn't mind leaving it rooted but if I could fix the wifi issue, that would be great and then maybe I can learn further about this whole root thing. Reading through the forums though, most people rooting have Windows and not Macos. Which kind of leaves me feeling alone lol

Go into the siyah thread (you can do it on your phone). Download the ATT tar file. Open up mobile odin, select kernel. It will open a window to find your kernel. If you download from the xda app it will be in tapatalk_downloads I think. Select siyah_2.1.13 (or whatever it is). Go down to the bottom where it says flash firmware, hit it. If done correctly, the phone will reboot and everything will be awesome
I'll keep an eye on this thread tonight in case you have further questions.
Forgot to mention, the siyah thread is here in the i777 forum, more specifically look in the development section. The download link is in the first post.

Okay I understood almost everything you wrote! Let me start by saying thank you! Couple of questions so I don't screw something up!
1. Should I download the .tar file directly to my phone? Would that be easiest?
2. I can't seem to find the thread in the development section, care to spoon feed me?
Lastly, when I googled Siyah it gave my a website but I don't know if that's reliable or not.
Thanks!!
Found it!! Will try today and update!

Do a factory reset in cwm recovery. You will lose your installed apps and home screen setup, so if you are partial to them, make a backup first.

Wrong bootloader?

I recently rooted my phone, and it seems like I rooted with the international boot/kernel. When the phone turns on, it now shows the i9100 instead of 777. I have MIUI on the phone, calls and MMS and texts are working find. But because of the international thing, my back and search button won't work.
How can I fix this problem?
Why do people insist on coming to these forums and just download whatever catches their fancy without reading first? I'm really starting to sympathize with Miami_son. Everything you need to know is in the stickies in the general forum. Please take the time to read first this time.

[Official ICS] i777 UCLE5 stock from Kies

This is my method I used to get ICS stock from Kies without any mod like modem, kernel... and without any brick.
First stock to UCKH7 from (only use non root version)
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
or
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691659
Then you base on stock UCKH7.
Second you use this:
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27707563&postcount=83
You does not need to update to UCKK6. After this step, you get stock ICS official without root
Then you can get this:
Code:
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.1.8-i777.zip
This recovery only replace stock recovery to CWM temporary, but you can backup NANDROID of ICS.
Now I'm trying how to root without install different kernel
At last, i'm try Siyah kernel v3.4.2 for i777 in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592228 is all right. Now i having super user and CWM recovery, everything work fine like bluetooth, wifi or 4G network (just icon, because in Vietnam just have 3G network ), but don't have Tethering and NFC support.
With me, Kies only detect my i777 with firmware in UCKH7 and UCLE5, with UCKK6 Kies cannot detect that.
Why is this posted in the development forum again? Its fine if people want to use this method but it belongs in general or....not here

You need to change out the stock kernel if you want to use that nandroid backup in the future. Using the kernel with a temp recovery leaves you vulnerable for the brickbug. Please remove that last part or we will see a bunch of I'm brick post.

Firstly, thanks for your post, but it is an instruction, not a ROM.
Secondly, the title is misleading.
Thirdly, this instruction should have been posted in the General section.

Just setting an example, for everyone complaining we do have a report button.
If you hit it most likely a mod or senior mod will see it and attend to it.
Most time just bumping it with complaints will not do anything other than raise your post count and bump the thread to the top so more people see it and the process repeats.
Best to let it die and get closed...
Maybe not closed just moved I'm sure someone could get use of this to get a complete stock version

[Q] (Help) Phone Dead

I have an i777 that was recently replaced by another phone, but when I tried to turn the i777 back on nothing seems to start.
It was running the Super Nexus ROM.
If I plug the phone into my computer I can get into ODIN, but cannot otherwise get the phone to respond to any input.
I had thought I was going to have to return the phone to Samsung, so I used ODIN to flash the stock binary, but I still have the triangle issue...
Any ideas on how this can be fixed? I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anything that fit this case.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
-Justin

I see you already flashed it back to stock. I would recommend doing that again to see if that fixes your issue. Otherwise, remove the triangle and attempt a warranty repair.

It would be a mistake to make an assumption that everything works the same on both devices. If I gave you an i9300 CWM recovery, you could brick your device.
I'm sorry you feel like people are jumping down your throat but they are not. It is for YOUR OWN PROTECTION. Be savvy and post in the right forums. We cannot guess if you have the wrong device and we can give you advice that can lead to your device being bricked forever. You would not be happy.
I would rather be told I am in the wrong forum than people not mention it in case they offend my delicate nature - then allow me to brick my device. You should be grateful we pointed it out to you.
Also, we are pointing it out for people here. FOR THEIR PROTECTION. What if someone came here and asked you for a link to the recovery you used? You post it still not knowing you're in the wrong forum. You could be partly responsible for how many bricks????
Now everyone knows and no one has a bricked phone. Knowledge prevails.

I'm not here for an argument. I'm here to stop people breaking their devices. Something that seems lost on you. It's a shame you're "too busy" to read the important information I just posted and too ignorant to realise that you're lucky nothing worse happened to your device.
For anyone who does actually care, since the t999 T-mobile USA device that the OP has, has completely different hardware, the kernels are NOT interchangeable, so no recovery is interchangeable either.
This thread needs to be locked and lost in the ether.
Actually, incorrect, I'm not ignorant at all, the only mistake I made was clicking on the "wrong forum" when it said "s3 q&a" because they failed to mention it was the international model, in my app. I never had any intentions on posting a link to the cwm file I used. Really guy, get over yourself. You made your awesome point now move on.
