No, your kernel won't be touched. Just make sure it's possible to flash the new second rom with the Siyah kernel you use right now.

thanx
Thank you for the answer btw any rom recommendations for siyah?

Well that obviously depends on which version of Siyah you want to use as they all support different bases.
You would be much better off finding a rom you like and then flashing the appropriate Siyah kernel for it. However you can start off on any kernel version you like as custom rom will replace with its own kernel anyway so just flash Siyah again afterwards.
Also please note that this type of question is not allowed for various reason.

Flashing another 1st rom will 'replace' your kernel. If you flash a new 2nd rom, the current kernel won't be replaced. Clear?

How to know which kernel is correct?
As of now I am using Sensation rom which has Siyah kernel 2.5.2 and I want to flash speedmod kernel or N.E.A.K. Kernel,
N.E.A.K. Kernel only supports sammy roms
I tried to search but I could not find out if Sensation rom is aosp or sammy do you have any idea of it?
also does speedmod kernel support both as nothing it written about it on its thread

Normally on the first page of a rom thread you will get a description what is the rom. For example MIUI is well MIUI. Hyperdroid is sammy deodex rom with of course modifications and tweaks in the build to make it better than stock.
Sensation rom is sammy deodex no aosp nothing like that. And when you normally look for an AOSP rom it normally would say it in the heading of the thread anyway.
On the kernel thread it has a guide of what roms the kernel works on and which ones it does not. Siyah works basically with any rom. CM7 to AOSP to sammy deodex. Regarding Simone's kernel which is the NEAK version or something like that it is based on only sammy stock deodex roms and that is mainly the ones in original development and android..just look out for deodex, sammy and stock rom
AS above its all a question of reading the info on the first page of the kernel post .
Plus if it does not work flash another one .
the Neak kernel should be ok been on mine for a few days .
Speedmod likewise ok have used it before .

Thanks everyone for their wonderful help!
I have got one last question
Speedmod kernel says "it is only for Samsung Gingerbread ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or MIUI ROMS!"
does this means it will not work with sensation rom?
Edit: ok looks like the different versions are just the updated ones
But still the question is if it supports sensation rom?

Now, if you look at the VERY FIRST page for SensatioN ROM,, it says:
SensatioN ROM Features:
-Based on Samsung Firmware XWKK5 Android 2.3.6
With all of this information, you should be able to deduce that the Speedmod kernel WILL work with your ROM. If you still don't understand, I'm going to suggest you don't flash anything to your phone, for fear of ending up with a paperweight.
Ok this time I understand everything
I didn't knew that Sammy roms means that the ROM is based on Samsung's stock ROM
Also I thought that speedmod only works on stock ROM so all this things got me confused
But anyways now its all clear

yes u can keep ur current stock firmware(has to be ICS) as ur primary rom along with Siyah kernel version which supports dual boot (Ex v4.1.5 of siyah) and flash any Custom rom of ur Choice which has to be ICS or JB (do not ask which one though since its against XDA rules!) as ur Secondary rom and see
for backing up of memo u can try some apps from stores and see
I just flashed my phone with the Siyah Kernal...
I have the stock firmware as my primary one ( ICS 4.0.3 ) and i wish to have a CM10 ROM as my secondary ...

Siyah 4.1.5 is not compatible with the latest CM10 (JB Mali version) and all JB ROMs based on this build. Therefore Siyah cannot boot it.

I had to do that bro...coz at mid night i was stuck and there was no response on this post.
Anyway, i had downloaded the 6th october build of CM10 from http://www.get.cm/?device=i9100
Like i got to know, the latest build might not be compatible. So, now I am downloading the 1st october build (thats the oldest nightly build available dats y)
Should that be fine ?
It might be. But I'm not a 100% positive. You could try n if you're not able to boot, then download another one of the custom ROMs built with a cm10 base available in the development section for now.until siyah is updated to include the new code.
Alternative is to flash the cm10 ROM and stick with the cm kernel for now.

installed syrah kernel fine and used STweaks to set up 2nd rom
am using a cyanogenmod 10.1 version as my 2nd rom

is the 4.2.1 not compatable?
thanks guys in advance
I'm not sure

yep reflashed the kernel
You will need to find out what Siyah kernel you are running as not all support dual boot. The latest version s3-v1.8.8 is meant to work with dual boot and has cm10.1 support.Check it out and download from here.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
Dont forget that after installing the second ROM you will have to re-install Siyah cos the secondary ROM probably wont have the correct kernel. Also a 4.2.1 ROM may need a different Siyah version than a 4.1.2 or a 4.1.1 ROM and this could also be the problem if you have 2 different firmwares running.
When on dual boot you have one kernel controling both.
ok that makes sense
have siyah version s3-v1.8.8 already running
reinstalled siyah after 2nd rom installation
still a no go
thought the siyah kernel was 'one kernel to rule them all'.......
or so it says.........

If I remember from when I dual booted a second ROM I had to full wipe install it.I imagine that you did but you could try and pass your primary ROM to secondary and full wipe install the new one. Then just swap them over again so the full wipe primary goes to secondary and the one you passed to secondary will come back as your main ROM.....if you get what I mean.Kind of a wierd explanation:silly:
The boot problen is definitly to me a kernel issue anyway.
yeah - will do the clone/swap thing!

I checked on Siyah kernel's official site but there is no mention about JellyBam ROM. Gokahn has just told about JB+ICS nothing else more much could be helpful for me.
I have read guides for dual boot but they are so simple as I'm looking for but yeah I can manage. I'm looking for a simple guide if anyone can refer or post for me.
One more question how can I increase charging speed of SGS2 using Siyah kernel?
I have flashed paranoidandroid 3.15 on my galaxy s3 a couple weeks ago, aside the occasional screen that win't turn on I haven't had any problem, but I set my mind on flashing a new kernel in order to be able to change thez governor. I tried to flash air kernel on, I did exactly what I was told: Boot into recovery, clear cache/delvik, installed kernel from sd card, and rebooted. But after the phone being rebooted, I still had the stock kernel.
My question is, why did this happen, and how do I fix it?
All help is appreciated

Well, I don't really know either of them, I don't mind stock, but I want to change things, sometimes it just isn't up for the task, or uses up battery when I would rather it didn't, without even knowing what they do, and looking around, I found the perseus kernel, I would like some opinions on the kernel, I would be very grateful if you told me if it fits me, if it's compatible with ParanoidAndroid, and finally if you have a better suggestion for a kernel.
