Thanks folks; I have the razr and have played wtih the note a bit (kind of wish it was a litle narrower) but alas the stores will not let me take em outside and I've learned from the past that it is very difficult to guest the impact of sunlight on the display.
My fiance has the razr and the note 2 wins in every single aspect except her ability to hold it. She has small hands... (which makes everything look bigger...)

I'm going to give you honest opinion comparing Razr Maxx and Note2. Razr Maxx looks more like the screen with blue tint job. White color didn't look really natural comparing Galaxy Note2. However, Galaxy Note2 screen is really hard to look at if you're outside.....which is one of the weak point of Note2....whereas Razr Maxx does better job under direct sun light.
I see; bad choice of word; I should have said narrower.

Thanks; well this contradicts what folks above said (I know the note has a more neutral prettier screen as I can compare them with the my razr in the shop) but I was worried about what happened outdoors.

I haven't had any issues at all being able to see the Note 2 under direct sunlight. My sister has the razr maxx and funny enough we feel the opposite. Her phone is definitely harder to see under direct sunlight.

I have the razr; and never seen the note 2 outside hence the question; but for me the razr is a bit hard to read on auto (outside) but if i put it at 100% it is easy to read in very bright sunlight (I have a toggle on the front to switch from auto to 100; actually it is a three way toggle; 20, auto, 100 (I use 20 at night)
Now that I have the note 2 for a couple of weeks i wanted to update this thread (in case someone finds it with a search engine). Without a shadow of the doubt the razr is brighter outdoors (if both phone are on max brightness and power saving is disabled). The note 2 can be difficult to read in very bright (but not direct) sunlight. I only had issues with the razr when the sun actually hit the display. Mind you the note 2 has a lot of great features (over the razr) but visibility outdoors is definitely not one of them.
Note 2 screen tech is a full year ahead of the RAZR. Its much brighter outside if you disable (as you should) "auto adjust screen tone"
The note II and razr both use amoled displays however the ppi and brightness of the oled's in the note II's amoled display are not anywhere near as bright as regular led displays as produced in the razr. The trick to oled's is they conserve battery consumption by not lighting blacks or darker colors on the screen and this producing the dark colors through no wasted battery. In sunlight and directed light even with this screen cranked up, it is not bright enough to withstand all the glare and thus amoled and super lcd screens would be better suited.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Ok while I disabled power adjustment for the display and set max brightiness i missed the "auto adjust screen tone" setting (which I wished was lumped in with the power adjustment setting rather being placed in yet a differnet location); anyways long story short disabling auto adjust screen tone improved visibility outside but it was still not as bright as the razr. Mind you the razr isn't great outside but does better than the note 2.
-
Btw the last really great phone I tried outside was (and htis really shocked me) Photon; I wa totally amazed how that screen technology performed outside it almsot seemed brighter outside than indoors.

No, the RAZR is brighter outside. I don't use auto adjust, and with both on 100% brightness the RAZR is brighter.

Im coming from an X2 and i have to say the white color looks horrible its almost got a brown tint. Is this because of amoled? On my X2 when you turn the screen on the colors look white, crisp and clear on razr they look horrible.
I know about auto brightness and all that but this is weird is this normal for amoled?
Is there anyway to set thresholds on auto-brightness? Why does the white look so bad when dimmed?
I would compare it to another razr, maybe at a vzw store. I came from an x2 as well & I don't notice any strange tint even though the whites are more muted on the amoled screen.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
When I look at images or videos, whites look fine to me. They look muted/tinted looking at email and webpages though, but after a few days it looks normal.
Ya its mostly in general UI areas for instance i use handcent sms and when the popup window comes up the white text area for the reply just looks really bad, really dark and funky...ya im gonna take it to VZW for comparison...it just seems so weird coming from X2, it almost seems like the X2 screen looked brighter/sharper/better im only on day 2 with razr but the screen thing is just kinda weird.
Are all amoled screens like this? Is it to conserve power?
Compare it to some other Razr, I really like colors on mine. On LCD screens they do seem to look more natural, but I like how they pop out on this amoled. Easier to read in outside light conditions, plus it's an eye candy every time I turn on the screen. I could stare at it, doing nothing, for hours .

It's not so much normal for AMOLED as it is normal for the RAZR's Pentile layout. I liken it to looking at a 3D image without glasses.

Ya i just went to store to compare and its the same at the store, whats weird is the NEW white model Razr the screen seemed a bit brighter and whites looked cleaner. All were set to auto bright in same lights...Also compared to Galaxy Nexus and i found the GN screen worst than razr in washout effect. Also UI a bit choppy im thinking of switching but now not sure GN seemed cheap the battery cover just snaps on and off with these little clips you have rip off like a door panel...weird
Matt,
You might remember me from the x2. I'm on the razr now too. It's not you or your phone. I know exactly what you're talking about. Market is a prime example.
I guess I'll take it to get true blacks. It is the AMOLED.

Ya Mista i remember you...
Ya im not crazy,
too me it looks terrible i showed my girlfreind this new "amazing phone" and the first thing she said is why does the screen suck. Everyone is saying the colors pop ect...i think this screen sucks and so does the GN i might bail for the HTC rezound at least it has some good development going on and a faster processor im not sure im just not liking this screen. Very Disappointing in a "Flagship Phone"
What are the chances that this can be fixed with software updates? I think 1% chance maybe, i just wish VZW would carry a better stock of phones why not the SGS2 why does VZW have to be so weird about what phones they carry.
Ya the market looks horrible...dog$hit
I don't think a software update can fix how AMOLED's produce colors. I know what you're talking about. Give it a few days and see if you adjust to it. Definitely a huge difference from the bionic/x2. I'm getting used to it.
Another thing -- load a black web page and look for the blotches. Found that last night.

Does anyone know if it would even be possible to make an app to make screen brighter than the factory max setting? I would imagine you could increase the brightness by upping the voltage of whatever controls it, but I'm not sure if there is a hardware cap or not. I doubt it would be very safe for the hardware though...

AMOLED screens don't have backlights.
It's not so much burn-in you have to worry about as burn-out - the individual LEDs are prone to do that if they have to display the same image or colour for long periods of time. Blue, for example, will burn out the fastest. There's a lot of discussion that went on around AMOLEDs for the earlier phones that used the screen tech, like the Nexus One and the SGS.
As for decreasing brightness, Screen Filter is the way to go.

Screen Filter. I've been using it for a when I read before I sleep. Very simple, good app.
Even if you do manage to find something to increase the max brightness, I wouldn't. There are usually caps on those things for a reason.

seriously though, compared to my fruit phone, the maxx leaves a little to be desired in direct sunlight. it's ok, but just could be better. in fact, i almost switched back to my 4s because of that ... bought a mophie juice pack air yesterday and thought ... oh yeah, 2 days of battery, even more than my maxx. .. then i see that ICS is allegedly hitting in a few days so figured i would wait it out. i can always return the mophie!!!

Like more vivid colors, movie like colors and things that that, i miss that feature of my Galaxy S2 (was stolen from me while riding the train the other day) so i bought a DROID RAZR, but the thing i miss is the screen of my S2, the white is not white here is like a yellow thing.

1) you are talking of low light, cause if you raise it, white will become much more whiter...
2) white on sgs2 is not white, is blueish... simply some people recognizes blueish white whiter than yellowish, is just subjective... but no one of both has a perfect whiter... if you want real colors, you have to go on ips based screens, not amoled
For lowering brightness, I use this app called Easy on the Eyes. It can reduce your brightness from the original lowest setting. If you have a mac, you can find it on the app store.

Older AMOLED Pentile Display were bad because they have a low ppi (240ppi on the SGS1)
But SGS3 screen has a 306ppi and the "pentile effect" seems to be not there (at least I do not see it on my SGS3

No matter what? Even if you're holding it like a inch away from your phone? I usually use my iPod touch (I have a Blackberry phone, it sucks for web browsing) when in the mornings when I don't feel like getting out of my bed. I usually hold it just 6 inches away from my eyes.
My S3 has to be the clearest screen I have ever seen. Had it for a few days now and still doesn't fail to amaze me whenever I turn the screen on.
You don't have to worry about holding it 6 inches or even 2 inches away from your face.

I saw the Motorola Droid Razr before I knew what pentile was and I thought it looked weird and pixellated so it's certainely not placebo. At the ppi of the GS3 it doesn't matter imo. I do still notice it (but not like I can count the pixels.. but it just is a little bit different then normal rgb screens) but the screen is still somehow the best I've seen in a phone.
You shouldn't keep yourself from buying it because of this as it not even really noticable, it's the best screen there is imo and it even spares some battery.
I can notice the pentile effect if I stare hard at the screen from less than 10cm away. I've compared my S3 to the HOX and the HOX does indeed has a finer screen. But still the S3 has one amazing screen. The blacks are much better although the colours seems a little over saturated and slightly on the warm side.

Well then I guess you have two options 1.) Wait two weeks and then go look at the phone 2.) Go with a different phone.
The only time I notice the pentile screen is whilst reading some text. It is barely recognisable but if and when you notice it you'll subconsciously start to look out for it. But it is very minor indeed, and changing the font of text helps to more or less eradicate it.
Aside from that minor quibble re text I have to say that this screen is absolutely awesome. Colours and contrast are absolutely amazing. I tend to set the screen mode to Natural as I think this gives the best colour effect.
I know this screen is awesome because when I switch from it to my iPad 3's retina screen I don't feel any degradation, if anything pictures and videos look better on it than on the iPad 3 - and that's saying something!

Yes, if you will use the phone under a magnifying glass
"Super Amoled Plus" will never work with High Resolution. They are not designed for that.
Move up dude
I my opinion It is noticeable, but only at ~3" away and I do have 20/20 vision but in any other situation It's fine, I have even fooled a few friends who own an s2 that it was a 'plus' display but as above you are best going to have a look
Its noticeable, coming from an Xperia S (which I gave to my wife for this phone) and having a G Note which died before the Xperia S, its the same for me as the G Note.
It's mainly around fonts and small icons which is more noticeable, definitely not in pictures unless you have super vision, but most of the time you're looking at fonts or small icons, so yes its there.
But FWIW I wouldn't trade it for the contrast, I've never owned a phone with such contrast (actually the Note was the same), but having said that in sunlight forget using this phone, side by side in sunlight with the Xperia S, the Sony wins hands down.
Hi all,
I am not trying to flame here. I know people have different views and opinions of screen "quality". I'm just going to express my sincere opinions...thank you for any input...
I was just at a Verizon and AT&T Store. My main concern is brightness, though, secondarily, the jaggedness of PenTile.
I looked at the S II Sky Rocket and Note. And the Nexus at Verizon. All these AMOLED displays were incredibly dim, at least to my eye. Of course they had ghosting/burn in, too but I presume (I hope!) that's just because the display models are left on. But compared to even my Droid 2 the AMOLED displays were literally HALF the brightness (approximately, to my eye), of my Droid 2. The One X and Rezound of course blow it out of the water. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the "brilliant" color of OLED too. No point if it's as dim as an LCD on lowest brightness. Plus there were was the terrible tint on them all. Even straight on, but especially from even a tiny angle. And I saw the Pentile blurriness with the "color" around edges. And my vision is bad. Although I guess it wasn't that bad from at least two feet away, like normal distance for most tasks, but it was bad close which I sometimes do when using my phone.
Is the Galaxy S III screen as dim as the S II or Note or Nexus?
I am just wondering if this is a universal thing, where OLED is just dim, due to inherent qualities of OLED? I searched a bit and apparently the "nits" are much lower according to this xda thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1679964.html. Oddly enough I found reviews and users saying they found it too bright which surprised me. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised and have S III be brighter than previous SAMOLED handsets!

I own a GS2(I777), a GNexus, and and now a GS3. I'm running AOKP on the GS2 and GNexus. I can't comment on the Note as I've never used one. I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Were you looking at them through a welder's mask?
Compared to a Droid 2? I was showing my S3 to my buddy who has a RAZR MAXX today. My screen is better and it ain't even close. He agreed completely.
And BTW, if you are asking a question, don't you think the Q & A section would be a better place to ask it?
I had an SGS2 and the brightness was more than bright enough for being in direct sunlight. Sure, it could have been a LITTLE brighter but I never had problems reading anything on the screen. It was also very crisp due to the true RGB stripe.
The Note has a PenTile pixel arrangement but due to the high resolution it's a non-issue. The same is true with the SGS3. Of course OLED displays aren't going to match LCD in sharpness or brightness, but the true blacks and vibrant colors look beautiful to me.
Wait for it to be in the store and then go take a look. But please don't say the displays on the SGS2 or the Note suck, because they really don't. Compare them side-by-side with a One X and you'll see a difference, but you will never be using it side-by-side in real world use. If you like super bright screens with white so white it'll burn your retinas, go for an LCD screen. If you like true blacks and punchy colors (that you can adjust the punchiness of) then go with an AMOLED. But saying AMOLED screens suck is just stupid.

The Note having a high resolution did not make it a non-issue.
I went from:
iPhone 4S - Galaxy Note - HTC One X
Screen Clarity went:
Amazing - Noticeable jagged edges but not horrible - AMAZING
I'm hoping I don't notice the jaggys as much when my S3 arrives due to the smaller screen size yet still high resolution. Just holding a Galaxy Note on it's own though I can definitely tell a difference, there doesn't have to be a side to side comparison. It was just "Well this looks pretty good, but it is not perfectly sharp like my iphone or htc one X look" It just kind've has an overall lower resolution look to it due to the pentile arrangement, but I didn't find it a deal breaker.
I didn't find the brightness an issue though, it IS too bright at 100% brightness. I liked my Note at around 50-70% brightness.
My friend has a Note and I haven't noticed jaggies using it, and I have 20/15 vision. It's a pretty beautiful screen in my opinion.

I probably should have put this in Q & A like mentioned, my bad.
But I'm puzzled by responses like above. I guess my eyes are very sensitive. I will agree different people have different perceptions. But I found the S II very dim even in a dimly lit store. I have a feeling I'd not be able to see it at max. brightness outside. And I love the brightness on iPhone and Droid LCD screens. It's wonderful. Even those are a bit dim outside but they are okay. Inside they are wonderful.
Hmm I'm worried if your S II is better than an S III that does not bode well. I hope perhaps the store model was messed up somehow. I know those get abused. Thank you also for your time everyone. I should have not said suck in the title but I wanted to emphasize I found the Nexus, S II and Note VERY dim, to my eyes at least. I figured the AT&T S III forum would be good since they're already shipping...Thanks again all.

Something is/was wrong with all of those phones, then, because they are plenty bright, even in direct sunlight. That, or you were wearing sunglasses the entire time. The iPhone is extremely bright, and I have actually hurt my eyes looking at it on full brightness if the room is not bright. Maybe you have less sensitive eyes than you thought. Not insulting you, just saying that my SGS2 was plenty bright and the iPhone 4 I'm using now is even brighter. I don't know how bright it really needs to be.
I don't know what dimness you see.. But you could always turn up the brightness. The gs3 display is beautiful. Way better than the s2. It looks brighter and just has better color. I love it. The viewing angles are amazing.
sent from my GALAXY SIII
My S3 is set at about 45% and is a great level. If you set it at 100% it is really bright and I cannot see how anyone would complain that 100% is not bright enough.
The screen is also very sharp and looks fantastic.

If you find the note to have visible pentile pixelation then it will be worse on the gs3 due to heavy sharpening applied. I know because I compared the 2 side by side.
btw the HTC one x display is pretty poor even by gs3 standard. The gamma is washed out and yellows and oranges are overblown to the point that skintones looks horrible. Text while sharper than on amoled displays suffer from poor contrast making it even harder to read.

I don't think you're thinking of the right phone. Every review states the HTC One X is the best display on any phone they have ever seen... And most Galaxy S3 reviews make a comparison saying it's good but not near as good as the One X display.
For example here is the Techie-Buzz.com review
"The display on the one X is too good to be true and the color and temperature reproductions are the most accurate I have ever seen on a phone."

Agreed. I do graphics sometimes. By nature of what I do, I deal with image processing at times.
All these OLED phones were dim to my eye. And it was in a moderately lit store so it's a charitable scenario. LCDs blew the AMOLEDS out of the water in birghtness, sharpness, and yes, color accuracy, in my eye at least.
I like my screens bright, though. I use my MacBook Pro at 100%, nice and bright. I use my Droid at 100% always also. All OLED displays I've seen are very dim. What blows me away is everyone saying they are TOO bright. I'm really surprised by that!!!!
I guess I shall see when my S III arrives... Honestly, if I even have tint or ink marks I'll swap it for some other 4G phone. I wish one phone could have it all but it seems there's always a tradeoff. Unfortunately, I value screen quality more than specs and dev support, even though I was reeeally looking forward to all the other awesomeness of the S III. But with a dim screen all of that is useless to me...if I can't see it! I'll post my impressions when it's in...
Also I know this is kind of a negative thread but I'm really impressed by the XDA community. I found my way here after pre-ordering my S III and seeking more info. Everyone here is so quick to reply, knowledgeable, willing to intensely and intelligently discuss everything about phones and tech. Cheers to the XDA community.

Well I just used S III in store again. And compared to my Droid 2 it looks like crap. And my Droid 2 looks like crap compared to HTC One X.
I just used an Incredible 4G LTE. Well, it was nice and bright and sharp. It's LCD. It's small and low-res though. I'm very sad about this but I think I'll have to pick the Incredible 4G.
S III has everything else about it perfect. But the screen is so dim and crappy, to my eyes. Also HTC Inc 4G boot loader is unlocked. Although with the firestorm brewing here maybe VZW will eventually unlock your boot loaders. My S III still isn't in yet but I think I'm 90% of the way to deciding to get the Inc 4G. Really wish S III had LCD. :/
Also I have to note: the colors on AMOLED are truly bizarre and over-saturated. Look at Google Maps on an LCD phone compared to an AMOLED phone. On the SIII the orange highways are the color of a traffic cone and the red "A" dot over my city is the color red of a red laser pointer. Nuts. Way over-saturated. It's just annoying. AMOLED, speaking as a graphics pro, to me it just does not look like it's ready for use yet. I think Samsung jumped the gun. It's got almost no advantages and a ton of drawbacks. SLCD simply destroys it in every way. It's making me rather sad I'm getting a puny little Droid Incredible 4 because the SAMOLED screen is so crappy.

Have you looked at it then looked at an LCD?
Sorry it is WAY DIMMER. this is a FACT. Open up Google News in an LCD and AMOLED phone. Compare. What do you think? Specifically, how white does white look on AMOLED?
And: ink marks, tint, black crush, over saturation, burn in, etc. on AMOLED.
I'm trying to be objective here. I really just wish Samsung would use LCD. Photos of comparisons do not accurately portray the differences between these two displays at least based on my experiences...you have to see them in person. Although even without seeing an LCD once, as soon as I fired up S III for the first time I was disappointed. I was like oh crap, that's seriously full brightness? Uh oh.
Mine looks great ..definitely not dim...colors look amazing..

I guess my eyes are just super sensitive.. I never would have thought that. I wear pretty serious glasses even. Ah well. Although I have good night vision. It's not like I need things bright to see them. I just feel like S III is annoying because it's dim. Constantly annoying. Can't deal with that for 2 years, no way.
Perhaps sometime next year there will be a phone with all the awesomeness of SIII but with IPS LCD display or a nice AMOLED..

Same here. My SGS3 is fantastic, I actually prefer it over the HTC One X that I had for nearly a month.

1. I can't work with one hand....well that's good thus the phone wont drop from my hand
2. The reaction of peeps..I have it few days ago.. when I walk ti work, in the elevator, in the office...all people are staring...one guy told me " Hey, why you dont you buy a TV Monitor (LCD he means) "
Are you proud ti show the Mega or you're like me prefer to fit it in your back pocket?
3. The hardware buttons...now i had s2, s3, note 1, note 2, even s4 for a few weeks.... I didnt have to seek the back button..I just move my hand to the lower right corner of the phone and voila the command is executed. ..but with the Mega I must center my hand and look fir the back button .. thats cz samsung kept the button at the same size as s3 s4 note 2...
4. The challenge is to get the bigger screen as possible in a smaller as possible frame.. the plastic around the screen I like it minimal...just like the LG G2
But afterall..its a great phone and this LCD screen is way better than other amoled on other samsung devices
I dont mind it, the mega is a different beast, with a lot of benefits that comes with a 6.3 screen & great battery. Look the bright side, and stop worrying about what closeminded people think about your choses, instead embrace that we think outside the box.
Peace out...

I showed my Mega to my class (I teach ICT) the other day and some thought its a Galaxy Note while some (Apple users) were put off by the size. I then pointed out that it's the trend of the smartphones nowadays and that Sony, Nokia, HTC, and ASUS have devices in similar size. I then used it as an opportunity to tell about the class requirement that they have to be able to suggest appropriately specced devices to different types of users. I will use my Mega next week for a demo on smartphones as computers by connecting it to the projector via MHL cable and use bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
This phablet is definitely NOT practical, its humongous and actually comedic in size, can't be used with one hand and probably we look like idiots when taking calls...
And you know what? Those reasons are EXACTLY why I love this phone!
I use mine just fine with one hand... since I have large hands the size is much better compared to other phones

And i would have wanted a faster GPU. Heavy 3D games doesnt work that well.
Other then that i love the size and all.

How is the screen sh**ty against AMOLED? The Mega's SC LCD has purer whites, better sunlight legibility, more accurate colors, better viewing angles, more sub pixels (full RGB not pentile), and has longer lifespan. AMOLEDs have yellowish/bluish whites, over saturated colors, black clipping/crush, and the screen deteriorates after several months. This is very obvious when you look at them side by side.
Oh yeah .there is 1 important thing that is really bothering me about the Mega :
No AOSP ROM ??!!!!
Sure aosp will come ... Hope it comes for you guys before I get this device in next few weeks. If not I'll be waiting too ....good luck

I agree with whiter whites, better sunlight legibility (due to LCD having brighter LED backlighting), more sub-pixels than only some models (e.g. Note 2 has full RGB AMOLED) and longer lifespan (although it lasts long enough for most). Mega's LCD is far brighter and is very crisp indeed. I don't miss the 1080p resolution one single bit that's for sure.
But... AMOLED has far better viewing angles. No LCD comes even close. I have my Note side by side with my Mega and AMOLED kills the Mega's LCD in viewing angles and color consistency. Oh, and AMOLED (as a technology especially) does not exhibit half the stuff you say. Default setting has over saturated colors / crushed blacks because Samsung decided to. But you can easily change it in the settings to have far more accurate colors as well as less saturation and no crushed blacks. (e.g. Movie mode or the Adobe RGB mode on the S4)
It's the same thing with a Samsung plasma TV. You have to change it to Movie mode for more accurate / natural colors and finer shades of black etc. (which I have it set to)
Have both (wife uses the mega) and as for outdoor viewing they are on par in visibility. Not sure where people are getting that the note 2 has poor outdoor visibility. Also, pictures and videos are cleaner/sharper on the note 2.
But, I love the size of the mega and am thinking of getting one to use for work and keeping the the note 2 for personal and general use. If I didn't have the note 2, I think I would take a mega as my first choice over just about any phone regardless of the 'mid-range' specs everyone likes to sight when knocking it. The phone is capable of almost everything a high end phone can do and on a larger scale.

I had the original Note and it had black crush/clipping and yellowish/bluish whites no matter what setting you use. Try reading the forums, it's common. You can minimise it by tweaking the settings but it's still there. Screen deterioration is obvious after using it for several months. Some people even get burn ins and black dots on black background. I don't know about the Note 3, maybe the AMOLED tech has improved.
We have a Panasonic plasma and we get great shades of black no matter what the viewing mode is.

That was the original note. My note 1 had the issues you are describing about black crush but that was it. It is still going strong for 1.5 years with my son using it without any deterioration. My note 2 has none of the those issues and have seen very little mention of screen issues with it.

Good on you if you have that experience. Unfortunately lots of people had the same problems I had:
Galaxy note 2 burn in --> LINK
Black spots on screen --> LINK
Yellowish screen --> LINK
More screen problems --> LINK
I'm sure they have improved on those issues but my experience still put me off getting a phone with an AMOLED screen.
Anyway, I'm happier with my Mega's screen. :good:

Did you actually take the time to read the posts you linked?
All these except for 1 is about the note 1 or other older phones (s2) < mainly this.
First link only 1 mention of note 1, no note 2. All other mentions were S2s.
Link 2. More of the same , with the last concluding it was due to physical damage.
Link 3. Don't remember all of it but just the one person with the note 2 having issues.
Link 4: seems all note 1 related. I didn't read all 29 pages but what pages I read seemed like it was only a few people back and forth
My statement was that I had 1 of the note 1 issues (black crush) and that i didn't have any with the note 2. This is after a year's use. Pretty much inferring that the major issues were fixed with this iteration of the amoled screen and no need to speculate that it might be fixed with the N3. Who knows, it might have it's own set of issues. I am sure there are people out there who have had problems with the N2, but I just haven't seen as much mentioned.
Sorry that you had such a bad experience with your OG note. Have you tried/used a note 2? It was/is many levels above the original.
The Mega is a wonderful phone and I will probably end up with one of my own (besides my wife's). You seem to like the LCD panel better whilst I prefer sampled. All I can say is to each his own.

Sorry bout the links, I searched for them at a haste as I'm doing work at the same time. They are mostly about the Note 1 as that's the device I had. Anyway, I have been quite active in the Note forums when I had it so I know they are real issues. Like you said, to each his own.
The only thing I'm sorta getting annoyed about is I keep touching the bottom of the screen instead of the touch buttons. I guess there's a bit less room in that area compared to the Note 1. I'm fine with having more screen area. I'll get used to it.
Dude I have to say that I was surprised to read this post... you Knock the lcd screen which is probably the most gorgeous lcd I've ever seen with extremely bright whites, incredible depth of saturation, and brilliantly clear picture representation. As far the size your more worried about what people think than the benefits of what the 6 inch screen gives you? Maybe mega jsnt for you man. But I love mine so much I bought 3
