I have a Samsung Galaxy S3-I9300T with the stock ROM. I have rooted it using Odin and CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0du-gti9300t.tar.md5. I rooted it only so that I could use Titanium PRO and Avast Anti-theft. I have not flashed any new ROM.
Dialling *#1234# gives me:
AP : I9300TDUDLK1
CP : I9300TDUDLJ2
CSC : I9300TTHLDLJ1
In Triangle Away I have run Reset flash counter and System modified workround. Before attempting to upgrade the firmware, I unchecked System modified workround but did not reboot.
The information displayed in Download Mode is:
Odin Mode
Product Name: GT-I9300
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
The Device Status in Settings is: Normal.
I receive the following message when I connect to Kies:
Current firmware version: PDA:LK1 / PHONE:LJ2 / CSC:LJ1 (THL)
Latest firmware version: PDA:LL2 / PHONE:LL2 / CSC:MA1 (THL)

When I try to upgrade, I get as far as seeing the message

in the upgrade progress window. This window then closes, leaving the main Kies window greyed out. The upgrade requests System Administrator privileges which I grant and then nothing else happens either on the PC or on the phone. Kies remains greyed out and not responding.
I also tried OTA upgrading via the software update function in Settings, but I receive the message:
Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try again later.

I have searched for a solution, but I can’t find anything further to what I have already done. Please can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
I wanted to upgrade i9305 version-
"Insufficient disk's space (requires at least 3000MB)". Hence, upgrade process stopped. Why 3GB is required? Where this space is required? Anybody faced such problem?

Probably but they would have posted in the I9305 section to get the correct answer .

You can't update via Kies once your rooted. Just download the stock rom and flash via Odin from Sammobile or preferably a deodexed one from Wanam's thread.
Deodexed roms from Wanam are pre rooted Just choose the rom you version you want and download. Updated to the latest
Yes you can use kies to update a rooted phone, as long as you have fully stock rom kies will identify the phone and allow the upgrade, it won;t work if you have a custom rom, if you have any custom rom, kernel etc you can't use kies to update otherwise it will work fine.
Try right clicking on kies and click Run as Administrator, once kies is running click on Help on the menu bar and check for updates to make sure you have the latest version if there is an update then update first, if not then connect the phone, wait for the message saying there is an update available for your firmware and start the process.

Hey guys
I have a problem...
My Galaxy S2 is currently running this firmware with Android 2.3.4:
GT-I9100_XEN_I9100CEKI2_I9100XENKH1_I9100XXKI1
CSC = XEN
I get told that there is an update waiting in OTA , so I let it download, reboots, starts to install, stops at 33%, reboots, tells me that it failed and that I need to try via KIES or contact Samsung.
But when I go into Kies... there is no button to let me update my firmware... it just tells me my current firmware version, nothing else like it usually would...
Not custom ROM, no root, battery 100%. Wifi/HSPA makes no difference.... any advice? My friend has the same phone with the same firmware and it works fine with him?
Suggestions?
As it is a Dutch firmware:
Do I need to be in The Netherlands for the update?
Need a Dutch SIM card?

Yes, I think that the CSC does not match your current region.
That's why KIES does not support your phone for a firmware update.
I recommend to download and flash the latest ROM from Intratech's thread (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278)
I am running the latest Frankenstein ROM XWLA4 from the third post.
You can combine it with any CSC and modem file you want.
Just put those files into the corresponding section of Odin and flash all at once to your phone.
Stick to Intratech's description (first post).
Alternatively you can use Check Fus Downloader (=> http://fus.nanzen.se/) to check what's the latest officially released firmware version for your phone in your region and download it directly from Samsung servers.
Good luck !
OTA never worked for me ...
Hi,
I have a similar problem.
In my case, whenever I select Settings > About Phone -> Software Update - Update, it says "Connecting to server ..." and then it says "Connection failed".
In the last several months I had this phone, the update never worked from within the phone, and I could only update via KIES. Now I am on 2.3.6 XWKL1
Is this a known bug in SII? I tried to search the forum, but could not find this.
Please help
Regards
Ha! Got it sorted, so simple....
1. Turn off phone
2. Take out SIM
3. Turn on phone
4. Try again
5. Success!

I have UK unbranded (XEU) Galaxy S II. yesterday Samsung confirmed the ICS update is out.
But when i connect my phone to Kies, it shows "Your device does not support update via Kies" (on Win 7 64bit)
I used the Kies registry patcher 1.8 to spoof the older version, then Kies detected the ICS update and went ahead to download some firmware update.
But it gets stuck while "Preparing components for the update" and never completes
Does anybody has faced similar issue? Any other way to get around it?
i say skip kies and use odin to flash, it will be as official as kies. search and you will find your info.
1: get ROM from checkfus downloader / or xda forum
2: flash using odin
3: wipe
I had the same "Your device does not support update via Kies" issue, also XEU ( and Win7 64bit though I'm not sure that's relevant? ).
Even after re-installing Kies, soft and hard-resetting the phone, rebooting PC, reconnecting device, etc., etc. ( I'd forgotten that some people have previously had success with the registry tweakage... )
I had :-
PDA : I9100XWKH1
PHONE : I9100XXKG5
CSC : I9100XEUKH1
( bought from Phones4U as an O2 upgrade )
I can't find this config anywhere for download, in fact, the only references to it that I can find via Google all seem to state the same problem with Kies not liking it...
So I used Odin to flash 4.0.3, and now Kies tells me that I've got the latest version, so it looks like my problem was that Kies just didn't like my specific version for some reason.
Odin itself is easy to use, I can see why so many people prefer to use it than Kies anyway... that said, I'd still like to understand why Kies didn't like the config that my phone came with from new...
I'm happy with ICS so far, battery calibration was nuts at first, but a reboot, run flat and full-charge seems to have sorted that out.

Codes on phone match no firmware on the server .
Kies only updates firmware that matches whats on the server .
Phone xxxx XEU
PDA xxxxx POL
CSC xxxxO2UK

Wiping is recommended if you are going from GB to ICS. and no restore from GB either.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I had the same issue, for some reason Kies says it's not able to update if you don't have a full charge, charge the phone up, plugged it back in and it updated
Who use's kies for updating just flash using odin and then wipe, for more info dont post another post just use the search bar
Using ICS from last 4 weeks now
Here is what i did
1. Rooted my GB first to install Titanium backup pro
2. Took a backup of apps through titanium backup
3. Took backup of sms through Go SMS Pro
4. Flashed my SII with Odin
5. Rooted it again
Hi guys,
right so what i did is this
flash (odin) stock xwlp7 (three italy) stock rom
rooted in order to install few mods
reset conter using triangle away
recreated stock kernel from stock rom and flashed it
now i connect the phone to kies, it does indeed connect, but it says kies is unable to upgrade firmware on my phone, how can i solve this ?
i would like to keep the phone as it is now(with my mods) but have it unrooted and kies being able to upgrade firmmware un future.
it's my wife's phone and i want it to be ok if something should go wrong and i would have to bring it in assistance.
thanks in advance
you have already got used to flashing update manually from ODIN...when future update comes do it in the same way....
While you are already on a latest firmware and there is nothing to upgrade Keis to do what?...
Kies requires original firmware with all codes matching .
or download the firmware via CHECKFUS ..
Or join XDA Developers forum and ignore Kies .

sorry maybe i did not explain myself
what i want is the phone to be fine for insurance purpose.
so i re installed stock kernel after installing mods (status bar and crt off)
basically i installed stock firmware, obtained root to install these mod, then flashed stock kernel in order to be all stock, but apparently kies still sees something modified on my phone and says it cannot be upgraded.
all i want is the phone to be stock now without loosing my mods

Unless codes match Kies will not see a firmware .You will just keep going around in circles like all the other modify phone and want Kies to update posters .
A total removal of KIES and all registry entries with a fresh install may help .

Copy of original .
One original firmware download from stock or branded provider rom threads and save or use CHECKFUS to download and flash via Odin .
Easy to flash if required and no need to involve KIES .

I am on DXLE6 and rooted with CF-Root. I can't seems to upgrade to DXLF6. OTA didn't find any updates (While normal unrooted can). I tried then using KIES but after downloading firmware (phone shows download screen), it ended with error of phone not recognized.
There is no issue with the driver or connectivity as it can detect the S3, prompt software update in KIES, download the new firmware and switch phone to download mode but it stops there.
Does it mean rooted S3 can't upgrade after rooted?
I have no solution for your problem, but all i can say is that yes, you can upgrade using kies when rooted (did that a couple days ago, too lazy to set stuff up again).
Question: do you use the original cable that came with the phone? Can imagine that this may cause the issue!
I can also confirm that when rooted software update couldnt find OTA update
I would suggest you to simply download and flash the ROM you would get from kies using ODIN. Guides and download links etc can be found using search function on XDA.

You can flash a newer version of stock firmware with CWM manager or with Mobile Odin Pro and still keep root. You don`t need Kies to upgrade.

You don`t have to do a full wipe when upgrading, just wipe cache/dalvik cache.
With the download i can`t help you, download it from another pc from a friend/family and copy it to a sd card !
Unzip the downloaded .rar file once to a .tar file.
Perhaps this is known issue, something is corrupted about the USB. It just suddenly stops working 'USB Not recognised'. Tried rebooting both didn't work.
Fortunately, I did TiB full backup before. I reset the phone to factory setting and it is recognised again by KIES. I have since upgraded to LF6.
Anyone knows why the issue with USB corrupted somehow (must be software setting not hardware as reset did it).
I get the following error message:
This device is not supported by Kies 2.0
Make sure that your device is supported and try again.
And this is using the latest version of Kies.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I remember it started to the proccess to root my phone, but then I wasn't very succesfull with it, so I abandoned it, but otherwise it should be stock firmware (its one of the first few steps on the xda guides).
TIA

Kies cannot root your phone .
Probable buggered firmware if you tried something and stopped .
Initial try is to backup data and factory reset phone .
Fails then flash your original firmware via Odin .
Alternative use XDA to update by flashing stock firmware .

Synch then with Google
Is that the only way? Because I don't want to do it that way.
Is there a way to check if my phone is rooted? Because I'm sure I didn't complete the process, but I just need to confirm that.
Also, I think I only got as far as trying the procedure for "triangle away", numerous times, but it didn't quite work for me, so I left it.
Is there a way to "untriangle away" after checking if it was done?
TIA
you can search 3rd party backup & restore application in playstore. you can try "my backup"

Hi, I went through the same problem and fixed it.
First uninstall Kies from your PC and make sure you doesn't leave behind any files.
Uninstallation of the software and the drivers installed by Kies I suggest using Revo uninstaller to do that.
Uninstall it from your PC then make a fresh installation.
Open Kies but do not connect your phone, if it wants to update Kies, go ahead and do it.
Close Kies, connect your phone and open Kies.
That should fix it.
It happened to me when I updated Kies while my phone was connected. Do try the steps above hopefully it should help. Kies is a crappy software to be honest. Samsung should really get their act up and code a better/stable program.
If that doesn't help, then probably something went wrong while rooting. The simplest and best option would be to flash the Stock rom back on your phone. That's very simple to do.
Follow this thread to get back to stock rom [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32980712&postcount=6]
PS: The stock rom link on this thread is linked to JB if I'm not wrong, I would suggest going on www.sammobile.com/firmware and downloading the correct stock rom for your phone.
Hope I helped

Also, since I'm using a phone with INU region, I can't upgrade it to 4.1.1
Someone else bought a phone, and I was working on it for them, and out of the box, it asked for firmware upgrade. Lucky guy!

There are apps on the play store which can check if your phone is rooted. Search for "check root".
The triangle away procedure is optional. You don't really have to do it.
It will just reset your counter so that it seems as if you didn't make any changes.
This is useful if you have to return the phone for warranty.
To backup your contacts I would also suggest to sync them with Google.
It's easier to manage your contacts via your web browser and you always have a backup.
You can also export those contacts from Google to other formats so you can import them later on other phones/programs.
Of course there are also other options... you could copy them to your SIM or use 3th party apps.
I would suggest G Cloud.
It is an app that will backup your Contacts, SMS Messages, Call logs, System settings, Pictures, ... and a lot more
You can choose what to backup. It'll back it up in the Cloud. You have 1GB free storage which is enough.
After a factory reset or installation of a new ROM you si;ply reinstall the software and restore your backup.
I only use it to backup my SMS messages. I like to keep them all.
Good luck

Even I'm on INU region. Are you from India? If so, you can't upgrade to 4.1.1 yet because Samsung hasn't updated the firmware for the region as of now. Jelly Bean is expected to arrive sometime around mid of November if not earlier. And the firmware upgrade out of the box isn't 4.1 update. Its a security patch recently released by Samsung.
I'm from India, but now I'm using this phone outside of India regulary.
I was thinking of using a SIM card from India, but I would have to cut it manually, and then also I wouldn't be sure if it was cut properly.
The firmware upgrade out of the box is for 4.0.4, which is still ICS.
Can I just change INU to another country, and then get the update? And then revert it back to INU when I need to send it in for warranty?
Also, it's surprising that Samsung hasn't released an update for INU, because I'm pretty sure it was one of the launch markets, as well as one of their biggest markets.

Yes, India is getting INU update 1st week of November or the 2nd. Samsung are market leaders here and JB updates have been confirmed.
There is a way to change from INU on your phone by changing your CSC ID. The CSC is location specific, so if you change your ID to some country where S3 has been given the JB update. You 'might' get it. Though I'm not sure of this method.
Instructions For Changing CSC:
Download Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC app from the Play Store
Open Samsung Galaxy S / S2 CSC app
Tap "Change CSC" button
Select the CSC for you Country
Tap "Install" button (Keep in mind changing CSC wipes your device)
I have never tried changing the CSC on my phone so I'm unsure of the credibility of the method above. Do take backup before changing it.
personally ive found kies is flawed and dont really like it
