[Q] Note Not Charging While Plugged Into MHL. Anyone Else? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

When playing games or watching movies while connected to my MHL my device still dies while its plugged up to the Power Source.
I'm running Padawn V8.

I do not think this is uncommon. My old Galaxy SI also discharged when plugged into my car charger if i had Google navigation or maps and Spotify running with full brightness.
You should check to see if there are charges availdable that put out more ampere.

Phone will discharge still when using the adapter. This is common and there is really nothing you can do. I even installed an app that darkens the screen completely and the phone still discharges.

Right. The charger connection while using MHL isn't for charging, it's so the battery drains less rapidly so you can see a two hour movie, etc.

I can't agree with that I just came from the one x and my phone stayed charged when connected to the multiple and charger. I guess it's a different story with different phones.

Some are better than others. I shucked out a twenty for mine after reading all the good reviews. Note charges on mhl while you tubing it up just fine. I will post the name if I can find it. I think its skiva(?)

And now apparently with different MHL adaptors, and chargers. Who knew?

The Note charged when using this adapter? Maybe your Galaxy Nexus. I've tried 3 different ones. From a genuine Samsung to 2 others from Amazon. All yield the same result.

The screen uses a lot of juice. Normally while in use and connected to a charger it will sustain the same level of charge. If you use GPS and data on top of that it isn't unusual for it to drain the battery. Not sure if the Motorola rapid charger fixes this, but the att charger can not keep up

What I did was get a USB cable our extension and short the white and green pair TOWARDS THE PHONE and instead of your phone charging at 4000 milliamps it will bump it up to 7-9000 milliamps. Just read it on a thread a few days ago and works great.

And if you don't want to modify cables or chargers then you can buy something off the shelf that has the data pins shorted together. Ideally you want a charger capable of 1A or more current (1000mA). I was getting 500mA before I modified my chargers and that wasn't enough to keeps up with the current draw of the phone and GPS. With 1000mA on tap now, it keeps up no problem. Poke around to see what chargers people can confirm work with our phones (have data+ and - shorted together off the shelf).
The Samsung charger that comes with the car mount does the same thing. They simply cannot keep up if using the GPS while keeping the screen on.
You will most likely not see this with say a SkyRocket because of the screen size.

Not really following the instructions here. Anyway someone can elaborate?
Two older threads in General and one in Accessories go into great detail.

Using Current Widget from Market; the charger I got with the Samsung car dock is the first one to produce more than one amp consistently. Box states that charger model may vary. My unit had thin body with oval head and non-coiled wire, and was first one to actually charge while using Google Maps/Navigation.

S2 charger for my S3

Guys any problems if i use my S2 charger with my Galaxy S3 i9300? The usb cable that i got with my s3 isn't long enough to reach my desk so i was thinking of using my S2 charger wich is 1.5 m long.
What do you guys think? Any problems on the long run?
You should be 100% good to go. You can also use the actual charger too if it isnt a lower voltage or if it's higher you dont mind a little extra heat (heat can be damaging to the batteries mind you)
I agree the S III cable is way too short
Samsung chargers work on every unit as long as it has the same jack hell, my samsung charger even work on my nokia phone xD hahaha

Seems to work pretty good, i charged it with my s2 charger and nothing bad happend.
I have an S2, S3, Galaxy tab 7" and a note 10.1... Use same charger for all, just change the usb cable for the different usb ports... All phones/tablets charge fine...

just because it works, doesn't mean its doing the phone any good.

no worries i'm not using it on my old nokia, i was just surprised that it was able to function on my nokia )
yep seems to work fine charging with my s2 charger rated at 5v 0.7A, i don't see any difference from the original s3 charger.
No problem at all using cable in USB or charger...

I am using an HTC charger on mine and it seems to charge OK (I just reused the one from my previous Desire). I've also used a Nokia micro USB charger rated at 1.2A without issues.
I use my SII charger on my S3, no problem at all!
I think I will buy a longer USB cable also.

Slow charging connected to unoriginal chargers?

Is this any true? I guess there was a reason why HTC devs put this, but I don't see any radical differences between the original charger and unoriginal ones...
Apparently it does charge it slower but if you use it, it will charge the battery like normal without doing any harm to the phone. Though it's best to use the oem charger.

I've got an HP 2.1 Ah adapter that I use with the DNA & does just fine. I think it might refer to the amount of amps being put out. I don't use any chargers less than 1 Ah.

Yes it is true, it was implemented with the software update. They used to simply check the data pins. Data pins shorted = fast charge (Current > .5 Amp), not shorted = slow charge (.5 Amp). This was done because the USB spec says devices can't have more than .5 Amps of current from a computer's USB ports. After the update they are checking something else though. I have several chargers that still charge fast but one dual charger rated at 2.1 amp that will now only charge slow. The charge rate won't be a problem if you're charging overnight but if you're trying to charge and use the phone at the same time you could potentially still be draining the battery but at a slower rate. The best example of this I can think of is someone like me who uses the phone in the car to stream music and navigate with GPS and screen turned on. Some of the custom kernels will override the charge current limit. This is no problem if the charger can handle it but is a potential hazard to your computer's USB ports.

I'd be interested to know as well.
They typically make them proprietary. I'd say no. Besides...ours isn't just a charger but a battery pack as well.
You can buy one on eBay, Search for "Gear S Cradle" or "Gear S Charger"

Lol , I'm thinking they meant JUST the cradle part and not the micro-usb wall charger like you are referring to??
Other cradles are wrong shape, and so will not work. Samsung has them for sale now on their website. I already have an extra one for work and gym now.

I would just match up the voltage and amperage from the original charger. Just about any micro usb would work, I even charge mine from the standard usb port on my pc if I have to.

but battery lifespan wouldn't be affected isn't it?
not that ive seen so far, I have a short cable coming off a kvm switch on my desk that I use occasionally, no issues with battery that I can see.
Bought a cheap chinese cradle and swap internal board and battery. Work like magic.

Fast Charging

Just came from a nexus 6p and with that phone I got a fast charging notification on my lock screen when I was using my USB C charger, I've still got my nexus charger and I've got a quick charge 3 car charger now that I've tried with my swift 2.
Both chargers do charge quicker than a standard charger but I was just wondering if the swift is supposed to display a fast charging notification as mine doesn't seem to.
What do you guys use to charge these mobiles?
Got to say the battery life is really good and my phi e is now lasting all day were I was having to charge my 6p all the time.

Since nougat, the fast charging label in the lockscreen is gone, although the phone does charge using QC3.0 (Personally checked with my chargers). Also, you can check the voltage and amp input using apps like Ampere.
Cool, I was just unsure about the notification not being there, my phone updated to android N as soon as I got it so had nothing to compare it to.
Mine shows rapid charging when use QC 3.0 Aukey charger [emoji3]
