I have only upgraded my current Android from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 have not done factory reset/wipe data.
Use stock kernel, don't use a custom kernel yet on stock ics 4.0.4.
Edit: Bdw, you should've posted in the Q and A section.

Just flash it again and don't flash another kernel. Use the one which came with the rom.

You're wrong. Stock kernel causes problems in lekaed software (LQ5, LPM) and also brings eMMC hardbrick bug.
Get back to 4.0.3 and wait for official 4.0.4.

You're right and wrong. You're right that it causes brick bug and you're wrong because in stock kernel, camera, video etc works perfectly. If you flash the current custom kernels now it causes the blank camera, videos won't show etc.

Right. I was just explaining it was caused by flashing a custom kernel not made specifically for 4.0.4 but for 4.0.3.

I have re-installed 4.0.3 and my device is working fine now.
Thanks everyone for your prompt help and support.
I got the same problem here. but I update from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 via samsung kies officially. So, how am I going to downgrade it back to 4.0.3? please advice. I have tried wipe data/factory reset.
You have to re-install 4.0.3 there is no other option available, download Android 4.0.3 from http://samsung-updates.com/ and install it freshly. I did the same to get 4.0.3 back on my smartphone.
On the 4.0.4 flash latest siyah kernel

The official ROM solve my previous problem but bring out another problem which is the phone itself is having crash and keep on not responding for the system. Anyway, I solve this by flashing another custom ROM named wann.. thanks for the help as before this I can't even have the cwm..
Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?

Its not about the rom. Its a problem that comes with stock ICS 4.0.4 kernel. If you try to wipe data in stock recovery it will brick your phone. You can easily flash a custom kernel which will remove the brick bug and give you root access and CWM recovery. Then you can flash any rom you want without any fear about the brick bug. There are so many safe kernels.

Jellybean is brickbug free,no any brick heard.
Safe way to avoid brick, First install Jb via odin then root by Phillz kernel zip file via Stock recovry.
Recovery (.zip) packages instructions - Will also root your phone * recommanded method *
They come in the form of -signed.zip files that can be flashed in stock recovery 3e: No Yellow Triangle
Download xxx-signed.zip kernel matching your ROM
Put the previously downloaded xxx-signed.zip file on your external sd card
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
Select "apply update from external storage".
Now select the xxx-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6

When u flash a firmware via odin, it replaces the current one completely, so it doesn't matter which build u were on.
Bricking occurs when u
- flash a firmware not meant for ur phone
- flash a wrong kernel
- wipe using temporary cwm on 4.0.4
- flash a corrupted firmware
- interrupt a flash by pulling the cable or battery drains out.

Ah, you missed one major point(which usually happens) wiping using stock recovery in 4.0.4 also bricks the device, but this kind of bricking happens only if you're effected by the brick bug there's an app in the play store which will check whether you are effected by the brick bug, and believe me most of the emmc chips are effected (for the record my S2 isn't effected but my tab is).
The important thing to remember is that you should not use any kernels having emmc_cap_erase value set as '1' that includes the stock 4.0.4 kernel and an old version of Siyah, so no matter the recovery if you are on these kind of kernels and if you wipe when your device is effected... Voila expensive paperweight.

Whoa tiger!! Yes you can actually convert the tar files into flashable zip using kitchen, carrier specific firmware are usually for locked devices but i dont know what could happen if you actually flashed it my advice stay away from it if you have an unlocked international version, and locked phones can always be unlocked, there is another way of flashing without using pc odin ie. by using mobile odin which is made and maintained by Chainfire, you only need to use your phone and possibly its more safer but you need root access.
Edit: I almost forgot, when you are using kitchen you have to be very very careful because you will have several options like to add root by using a modified kernel which matches your OS version, I would say that you must use it IF ONLY you know what you are doing, and you can also deodex if you want but some kind of glitches can pop up anywhere.

Dorimanx is an XDA dev who works on a i9100 kernel, named after himself. I absolutely love this kernel. It's stable, highly customisable and often updated. Search XDA for it and you shall find.
So you want stock, as evidenced below:

Fish finger (hahaha) all you want is to update to the latest Samsung official firmware right? If so, forget what kona said, you don't need a recovery at all. All you need to do is to flash a stock ROM via Odin, with your phone in download mode. Where to get the ROM? Search on Samfirmware.com for a stock ROM for your country, region & carrier. Then, to flash in Odin, you can click the link in my signature and find a handy link to a tutorial from there.
