Hi friends, I want to introduce an alternative for Samsung Ebook reader that works on ICS and JB custom ROMs too! its name is Mantano Reader...
I use it on my MIUI ROM and it works just fine, besides, it has many other features that other Ebook readers might not have...
It's a paid APP I think, that's why I haven't put it here. I'm in Iran where we are never used to pay for applications, we can't if we want though. so don't blame me.
LOL... So the wrong forum...

Hey friend, I know that
But when you see how many people come to this forum in search of Ebook readers, you won't object this, take a look around in the forum, there is at lease 2 active threads about this. my first thread about this was in the original tab forum and about Samsung Ebook reader, but that only worked on official ICS according to the feedbacks, but this one works on any build, try for yourself... I am still using it, works fine still:good:
the only good ebook reader is Fabrik.. sync with dropbox... and no other shizzle with it.. )

Well seo has ported eBooks and MyFiles to work without TouchWiz. No way I am going to switch now.
Besides, I have tried Mantano. Not my cup of tea.

I have run away from sammy's 3.1 stock ROM,,, And now landed to awesome Cyanogen Mod 9 (kang)
Everything is fantastic in it.
+1,+2,+3 for music app and many more +'s for some other things.
Only thing I am missing is sammy's ebook application that was in stock rom.
I tried Aldiko, Moon+(it doesn't read pdf's, only epubs) etc.... they are good but not enough to compete with iBooks in my friend's ipad... I really like ebook app that comes in stock rom.
I downloaded ebook apk from here http://desire.giesecke.tk/downloads/
That was fine for .epub books but failing to view pdf. I think its due to Some issue with 4.0.
So, my question is
somebody who own GALAXY NOTE or GALAXY S2 and got official ics 4.0.x update by samsung, can able to copy their ebook apk and upload to me?(I will PM my email id)
Thanks...

This app will not work with CM9 as it requires Samsung framework. Try Aldiko instead.

No,,, i downloaded 'ebook' apk of honeycomb version and installed to cm9.. it worked normally for .epub books but displaying blank pages for .pdf books.
I think the ebook apk in stock GALAXY NOTE ROM may work on CM9 without any issues since both are on android 4.0 ICS framework? I may be wrong because i am not a developer.
Okay, i will either convert some of pdfs to epubs or use aldiko....

you need the "my files" app from honeycomb...i cant get it to work on ICS..you could try though.
Missing file too
Hi, I'm missing this file from the firmware upgrade on my Galaxy Note, i'd appreciate if you could send me the ebook.apk pls :good:
I use Adobe Reader for PDFs and Cool Reader for epubs. I use the Kindle and Nook apps for everything else.
They replaced the ebook app with the Reader's Hub app I think.
I use the nook app for epubs. Add the files to the /sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments folder on your android device. It doesnt do pdf either though but Calibre solves that. Lifehacker.com/5509965

But you know, no book reader app was better than that of Honeycomb, seriously guys you have to admit! One thing I regret is that, no book reader like the previous one. Please, developers, do something, for I am an avid book reader.
You can get it from Samsung APPs,I got it on my official ICS,nearly 30MB,All is fine in epub and pdf, search in there

Yep, running fine here.
Just downloaded some ebooks from Project Gutenberg.
I'd say try kindle. Requires Amazon account, but reads mobi and pdf files with ease.
Created thread in general,Q&A in there...
Hey I just switched to cm and I'm loving it but I'm really missing the stock reader app. I still use my nook for reading and the nook app from the market just isn't the same. Is there an update.zip or API floating around I can install to get the stock reader app installed?
- and can someone move this to the q &a session .. my bad

i've been reading the NT forum for months and have heard none mentioned. . okay but just think about it for a second. the stock NT uses hardware acceleration very well ( a thing of beauty ) . . . its the stock 'firmware' that makes the books look so nice ! . . not the stock app . . . the senior devs have 'not' got cm9 tweaked out ( punked out ? ) with hardware acceleration. . . cross your fingers, the new binary level guru in europe will get it ! ! !

Fair enough. I have no complaints about cm9 I know it is very alpha. I just feel robbed reading books now... especially since a lot of the content I read isn't from B&N so now I have to force the app to find it.. with all that said cm is still worlds better than stock.
I use coolreader myself and it works perffectly well on CM7 for me. But then again I never bought any books from B&N as I have a ton of books I have gotten else where that I need to read.
I've tried downloading the generic B&N apk for Android devices, and it didn't work well. Forced-closure, hanging, etc.
I'm using Mantano now which I like very much. Of course, when I want to just focus on reading I'll still revert to my Nook Simple Touch with stock reader.
The issue that I ran into is that the stock app (which I got from the aclaim update I believe, it's been a while) requires a certain version of Adobe Air to run correctly, in addition I do believe it uses the hardware acceleration (can't confirm this) so if your versions aren't the right sort, and certain files aren't correct, it runs like hell. I gave up on it personally.

care to point me to it?
Let me look and I'll see if I can dig it up again.
It's not possible due to framework incompatibility, so if you're not in stock it won't work. B&N apps depend on the stock framework like stock samsung apps and widgets depend on samsung framework.
Conclusion use the B&N app from google play and a 3rth party reader or go back to stock

I'm using the Google Play version of the B&N Nook App and it works flawlessly for me. No force closing or hanging at all.
Agreed. The NOOK app from the Play Market has been flawless for me, reading primarily ePub documents without DRM.

Can thiIS this app be installed over AOKP? if yes, does anyone have the APK? it was included in the task rom...can i just pull it out from there?
This is no warez forum...
the OP simply might not realize that it's warez, though. After all, it came free with the stock ROM and it's also included in Galaxy Task since that is based off of the stock ROM.
but yeah, to OP: this is considered warez and is a no go on these forums. Think of it as part of Samsungs touchwiz package. Since you decided to go pure android, you decided not to use Samsungs horrible UI but you have to live with Quickoffice not being free. Use whatever means you like to obtain it, but don't tell us ;-)

didn't realize its warez, on the samsung based rom it was included, but not fully registered.
anyway consider this thread closed, i'll just purchase the app...thanks for informing me
*cough, can't as taiwan blocked play store apps.....wish they can consider pay pal
I have quick office, docs2go, but have recently been using "cloud on". I definitely recommend that as I'm finding it as functional as the other two. It's also free!
but cloud on also requires another registration and username. I installed it, was asked to register an account and instantly uninstalled it. I'd even assume that it therefore requires an online connection to be usable, but that was just an assumption as I didn't even want to bother with another account that I'll probably never use anyways, given that I have a pretty nice sollution already pre-installed on my tab.

Well, download tasks ROM, use a root explorer to extract the apk from system/apps, then sideload that apk on your new(er) rom.
OR
When on tasks ROM do a titanium backup of ALL apps, save the backup folder, flash a new ROM, install from the backup
If your original stock ROM came with the same gimped version, I do not think retrieving it this way is unethical. My tab came with polaris office though, didn't know other countries came with something different.

Task14 is based off Honeycomb, while AOKP is working with ICS. It's a crap shoot if QuickOffice will work on it. Good Luck!
I purchased quickoffice and have it running on my Desire (gingerbread), stock tab 10.1 (honeycomb 3.2), AND I purchased it for my Son who is running it just fine on his transformer prime (ics).
In short, buy it and you will not be dissapointed, it will work on ics, and unlike the gimped freemium / bloatware version that shipped with your tab a purchased version will see regular updates.
The main point, the purchased version runs great on gb, hc, and ics.

Hey everybody!
After weeks of searching the internet and looking up some older threads here at XDA, I'm still desperately in need of a at least half-decent CHM reader for Android. Unfortunately there's only crappy and buggy software available (no or bad search feature, problem with compiling the files, unable to view the TOC, etc.)....
I tried EVERY free one (Android Chm EBook Reader, Best Ebook Reader, iReader, Moon Reader, Cool Reader, Cuckoo Reader, etc.) and some paid ones (HYReader, Chm Reader X, etc.) in the Play Store.
The "Best Ebook Reader" used to be quite aceptable but meanwhile there's no actual version available anymore and it seems that there's no support for ICS, because I always get a forced close on both my TF101G and my SGS3 running on stock ICS.
The main issue is, that I need such a reader to read quite big CHM files (about 50-70MB) and that most of the available readers seem to have problems which such big files.
A friend of mine is using the "GoodReader" on his iPad this thing works like a charm! So I'm curious if there's no way to get something like this for Android.
try KingReader...
Me also facing same problem

yes there is no good chm reader for android none r at par with CHMate for iOS
however you can try iReader on play store (the one with colorful icon),this works good for ICS.
it has all functions except search button.
i use it regularly and it is able to handle harrisions(273 Mb) without any FC.
but not perfect and i am still in search of one,
if you get some or have some suggestions plz help
thanks
This is a major problem for me as well. I spend way too much time trying to reformat CHM files into EPUB to work WELL on my Android devices. So far it's been pretty hit or miss with converting/editing programs like Calibre and Sigil. There is no good CHM reader on Android. And we really need one.
iReader seems to be nice. But the menus are in Chinese.......
Kingreader works great on the Nexus 7
Ireader works great on the Nexus 4 for CHM files
yes..been trying king reader..
and it was good..
KingReader really works for me. (Samsung Galaxy 7 Tab 2)
back to square one in jelly bean- kingreader not working
plz help me.....
I am in desperate need of a descent CHM Reader.
King reader was a dream come true in ICS. But after upgrade to JB(4.1.2) this it's not working.
I rely on chm reader a lout diye my quick reference on medical books.
So dev/enlightened ones/king reader/ i reader dev plz do something for thos poor soul.
Request to all member plz share your knowledge of you know any good reader.

Try SuperChm. It worked perfectly even when my chm files don't have an index.the search option surely doesn't work when three is no index but it read all medical chm files I tried.
SuperChm indeed works quite nice. Unfortunately it still sucks compared to the functionality CHMate for iOS :/
I just released a free version of CHM Reader X, called CHM Reader F. You can have a try.
I'm still missing the "that's the thing!" feeling, but it works very well and fast. Thank You!
You can use mixolorer file managerit opens chm files
Also it has add-on for ebooks like pdf ,epub and others
Hey, i know its an incredibly stupid question, so minor that if there was a "thread for questions that dont deserve their own thread" i would post it there. I debloated and uninstalled a lot of APKs for my Samsung A32 and so far i ironed out all the kinks and im pretty happy with how the phone is, however i realized little ago that i lost the ability to view PDF files in my phone. What was the pre installed APK that lets you see them normally? I cant remember if it was google docs or if it was something else.

Huh, was it installed by default on android? I dont remember any path when using ADB that had "adobe" in it.
No pdf viewer installed by default on stock android
You might have some Samsung app maybe
But Adobe is the master
Ok, just for the record i found out it was google drive the one that was by default the pdf viewer.
The phone adobe acrobat reader is good for mobiles or are there better alternatives?
