Will CM 10.1 ever be stable? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own several tabs that I loan to my employees. I need something fast and stable before I leave stock ICS. Is there a timetable or a completely stable aosp JB rom?
Thanks.

CM10.1 for Galaxy Tab 10.1, as it stands now, cannot ever go stable (unless 4.2 is released for Tegra2 which most likely won't occur since it has been EOL'd).
This is because there is quite a mess with Google Apps (which most users install and use from the usual places) on this platform where things have to be hacked/modded/worked around for things to work. This is because support for non NEON architecture (like Tegra2) has been dropped.
However, CM10 for Galaxy Tab 10.1 can go stable and will do so once the remaining bugs are squashed. This is being worked on. A timetable cannot be given at this current time.

Thanks... What are the bugs? Is it on your website?

[Q] [ICS] vanilla AOSP ROM devs - anyone doing?

Hi all,
First of all, I'm amazed and gobsmacked at how much work all the devs put into their respective ROM's, it's amazing the effort and hard work ppl put in. Passion is alive and well on XDA
Now, to business. I have my Galaxy SII, a Galaxy S, and an Acer Iconia A500. I've flashed them all with their respective ICS. I would think (and hope) that probably out of all of them, the SII has the biggest dev base and most power. The ICS ROMs for the A500 and S are almost perfect. They run completely vanilla with no or almost no bloat, they look and behave the same (icons for network activity inside the bars for example, contacts app looks the same) and have had no hiccups whatsoever.
Come the SII, the only ROMs I've seen are cooked from Samsung sources with their phone and contacts apps, they crash and reboot and if it weren't that I have gone past the point of no return in regard to effort I'd have gone back to Gingerbread days ago.
Is anyone out there developing a completely vanilla "Google" rom that isn't themed to look like ICS, but actually uses the ICS apps etc. I can't understand how the Iconia and SI can have this while the SII seemingly doesn't.
Can anyone open my eyes on this? I'd love to get something as stable onto my SII as I have with my other devices, ICS is brilliant to use on them...and barely bearable on my beloved SII.
Cheers
<:3)~
Ummmm correct me if I am wrong but that's exactly what the CM team are trying yo to do....
And you can already download and install that, so long as you are happy with the bugs at present.
Unless you meant something else???

You miss reading the cm9 thread. Check it out....its still alpha.

I'm more curious about the fact I would have thought the SII having a bigger user and dev base...certainly more than the A500 I thought it would have the most stable and mature code base - yet it seems the opposite is true.
I've been running 4.0.3 on my SI for weeks now and its never bugged out. Installed the A500...and Oh wow its like a brand new tablet!! I wonder is it because of Exynos or some other reason we can't have the same stability and performance right now.

Your ignorance and disrespect is pretty bad (even if you don't mean it). I think you should do some reading for a while and get yourself acquainted with what's involved.
I didn't ask this to be dissed by someone...I'm sure even you would agree the development cycle and challenges for all three devices would be similar given they all use different processors. So is it easier to compile for the A8 and Tegra than the A9?
I have been looking and downloading a number of ROMs...and if someone has created a ROM in a similar vein to Thor's on the A500 and Onecosmic's on the SI, well I'd be grateful for the heads up...in fact I'm just about to download and test the Pure ROM I just spied over in dev...so see how that goes. Still I'd be happy for someones *constructive* input.
Of course I'm claiming ignorance...if I knew I wouldn't ask...geez lol

It's a wonder no one bothers doing a straight AOSP compile for any device, really. CyanogenMod comes the closest. There are a few people who played with doing a straight AOSP, but they base it off CM's work and strip out the extras.
When I wanted the AOSP experience with Gapps, I installed CM7 on my SGS and installed the stock Gingerbread launcher. It was the closest I got.
Trebuchet is basically the stock ICS launcher with features added, so it won't be so bad. You can also replace it with the stock launcher as well.
Try Airbus 360s ics rom that's aosp and is fantastic he should be releasing beta 2 tonight.

haha I bet that confused ya
You're question is a bit noob so don't expect much answers.
Here is a short one to sum it for you:
AOSP - Pure android base without modification.
CM - almost pure with modifications.
STOCK - Hardware Manufacturer (eg. Samsung's) "official originated" release.
Stock - can have it all. CAUSE - Samsung has sources and support/docs for ALL hardware API of the device.
CM/STOCK - While there are some changes BOTH use the same origin.
To sum it, for proper functionality BOTH use SAME kernel/libs base.
So if some hardware functionality broken in one it'll be broken in other =
If CM9 haz no h/w decoding === APPLIES for AOSP.
Another thing to keep in mind, CM9 currently is in the process of adding CM features so current builds are very close to AOSP with functionality.
SUM IT UP:
if (CM9 != working) AOSP.isNotWorking()!

Pershoot is working on the 4.2 ROM (cyanogenmod), if it's stable enough in his eyes to share it, he will, he owes us nothing, so don't push him to share it, i myself am also using and changing android 4.2 which is pretty unstable on my tab right now, i have no bluetooth, cam, audio, and mic for now, i do not notice any performance changes.
Samsung will not send out a 4.2 update fo rthe Galaxy tab 10.1

Okay Thanks!
Desperate for 4.2 solely for the MULTI-USER setup since this is a general tab that will be used with anyone...
Don't know if I should wait it out or install CyanogenMod 10.1 now...
Hmmm. Worried about losing features and connectivity with my Samsung TV.

10.1 CM ROM advise

Howsit guys
I have tried about 2 of the CM10.1 ROMS. i know they are all still beta etc, with it to be bugs.
Just wondering, is there a nice stable one available?
The ones i tried keeps on crashing at camera (Could not connect to camera) And also, chrome, buggy?
I dont have alot of time to check and track changes etc, if anyone maybe can recommend? i9300 International version
Thanks guys!!!!!
No stable versions as of yet. It'll be quite a while as even cm10 isn't stable yet for most devices afaik.
All cm builda for now and any derivative works will have bugs. If you stability, stick to stock-based roms. I for myself don't have any problems with camera on cm10.1 (official nightlies)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you want to use AOSP, Ill highly recommend sticking with official CM nightlies since they are developed by CM and are generally updated more frequently whilst other ROMs are based upon CM, thus their update are intra vires to that of CM. There are a few others out there may also deserve high recommendations such as SuperNexus but this refers back to my main point.
The camera crash I suspect might be due to the particular sensor used within the camera as some are Samsung and Sony variant. IIRC, Vietnam manufactured units used Samsung sensor whilst others utilise the Sony sensor.

[Q] Stability of Cyanogenmod on i9300

How stable and well developed is Cyanogenmod 10.1 on Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300?
I know that it won't have so-called stable builds (because Samsung doesn't support AOSP development).
I have heard that @codeworkx has left Cyanogenmod development on Galaxy S3, is it so?
I want to understand what is the current development status of Cyanogenmod (10.1 and future versions) for i9300 - is CM 10.1 stable/usable on i9300, what are the odds that there will be future versions of CM on this phone?
How smooth are 10.1 nightlies running on i9300?
What could be the future of Cyanogenmod on Galaxy S3 i9300?

CyanogenMod Known issues in the Nightlies:
-Home button on Screen-Off takes user to Home, instead of on-screen-running app. (I would use power button instead)
-FM Radio: unsupported. Use Spirit FM Radio from Play Store instead.
-TV Out: unsupported, will never work (proprietary, undocumented).
-No exFAT support (proprietary, Microsoft).
I don't think these even matter (atleast to me). Other than these issues, the Cyanogenmod build is more stable than ever. You can go ahead, take any latest build or custom CM builds by other developers like temasek and try it on your device. No big deal. I'm sure you'll not be disappointed at the hard work done by the Developers.
Yes, Team Hacksung (Part of CM team) will no longer be working on samsung devices since they no longer provide proper sources. There have been long and hard cries over this, but Samsung doesn't care. So thats the end of it I guess.
Other members of CyanogenMod team will keep on developing as long as they wish So you can have some expectations as long as you are patient.
The biggest issue is the camera. For most, FM radio etc are minor issues. But the camera is a always a deal breaker.
I find taking videos is unreliable. It sometimes won't record, needing a reboot. This has to happen once when your baby is doing something for the first time for considering switching back to the awful sammy roms.
I haven't had bugs in taking pictures in a very long time though, so that seems stable, but video still an issue (for me at least, and I megawipe before flashing).
don't ask questions in this section, ask in the questions section
Very stable, but you may have to know that you maybe get not so much batterylife like on StockROM.

CyanogenMod and Kit Kat 4.4

How fast will CyanogenMod shoot out some stable/release candidate ROMS for Non-Nexus phones?
If I am correct, lately CyanogenMod has been releasing new stable versions for phones at one time, rather than one at a time. This is quite a puzzler to me, because CyanogenMod hasn't even released a stable release for any phone running android 4.3 AKA:CyanogenMod 10.2. It seems to me that they should have been on this ball months ago. They have just become a legit company, named CyanogenMod Inc., yet still have not updated any ROM to the newest software (Android 4.3). Hopefully, they will be on the ball one KitKat comes out on October 15th, along with the new nexus.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Specifically, the samsung galaxy S3 for sprint.

I'm running 4.3. So it's probably just your phone. If it use the Samsung CPU, that might be the problem.

Are you sure? Unless your CM10.1.3 is android 4.3, there are no stable versions of 4.3 released for any device right now. As far as CM goes.
As far as I knew CyanogenMod was bringing android 4.3 to its version 10.2.

Im running cm 10.2 20131011 nightly, on sprint Samsung galaxy s3, 4.3.1 and its flawless
Will it be developed for HTC ONE m7
I personally don't think they're heavily concerned with 10.2 I think KitKat is going to get the focus.

Sorry but thats not how the CM Team rolls. They're main priority will still be 10.2 to get whatever bugs or concerns addressed till they move to another project. They're not just going to waste hours of developing and let it go down the drain. Until they produce a product that is completely flawless and bugfree, then...they'll move to a new project.
Cm10.2 nightly is good for daily use

Well I'm not an expert user... Every night they make some updates so I think they'll be trying to make 10.2 perfectly stable before releasing a 4.4 rc

It kind of is, most of the team will move on to modifying 4.4 and a few will stay behind to make the previous release stable. This will also mean that now will be somewhat of a feature stop for 10.2

I like Kitkat...and wanna use it soon
yeah.. i hope they adopt it real soon...
