Needs:
GPS
Custom roms
Android 4
7" screen.
Nice to have:
Bluetooth
No hw buttons
Competetive price
Dual or Quad core.
Don't-care:
Battery life - it will always be connected to powersource
Design - only the screen will be visible
I had decided to buy an Ainol Novo7 ELF II, as it is priced right, size is right, there are custom roms for it - but it lacks a GPS receiver.
It doesn't look like any of the chinese tablets have bluetooth nor GPS - can this be right?
What aree my options, anything you can recommend?
...Nexus 7? Fits all your needs, but one. Android version, it has 4.1, not 4.0
At this point Nexus 7. It'll already be running 4.1 and your pretty much guaranteed updates from Google or else ROMs from XDA. Many less common 7" tablets may never see OS updates or ROMs.
The exus 7 is the most obvious choice, however.. it is not for sale in Denmark :/
Maybe the
Archie 80G9?
Its 8" but blogger is better ;P
It runs official AOSP ICS.
And I'm pretty sure that Archos will give it 4.1

Also check out this tablet.
It runs 4.0 and comes with Google Apps.
Here's a video review:

And the Amazon link is in the description of that video.

honestly, i would get an asus transformer. for almost and extra 50.00 or 75.00 you can get a really amazing tablet and a lot bigger. i have the asus transformer tf300 and it is seriously the best tablet i have came across. the google nexus 7 is good for 200.00. if you go the extra mile it will be worth it.
Nexus 7 all the way. Started w an Asus TF101 w keyboard, didn't use much. Just too big and heavy a format for me. Nexus 7 gets used all the time perfect size for me. Nexus 7 has loads of ROMs check out the Nexus 7 forum here.

Nexus 7 for sure. I bought an 8gb and it works great for what i use it for. Have paranoidandroid on it and havent rebooted it for almost 1000 hours. Very stable and battery life is amazing.
The only thing i wish was better was the screen. Next to my Evo the thing looks like garbage. But with them both having the same resolution it's understandable. I will definitely be buying the updated N7 if they come out with one. Kind of tempted to buy the N10 but i think it would be too big for what I use it for.
Anyone have the Galaxy note 10.1? I don't care for roms and stuff, just would like to know how the hardware handles running apps and how are the s-pen apps for kids?

if you care about benchmarks then get the nexus 10, amazing speed, amazing sound, and AMAZING graphics.
if you only want one of these two (nexus 7 or ipad mini) i would go for the nexus 7. the nexus 7 might seem slower than the ipad mini but is actually really fast (i have one, as do i have a nexus 10). and the thing with ipads are that basically all you can do is download a bunch of games. its not really good for anything else. so if you like playing A LOT of games go for ipad mini and if you want just a few games and some other cool stuff (like root, etc) go for nexus 7
Yeap.. I do play lots of games... so I should go for IPad mini??

I don't recommend gaming on nexus 7. The nexus 10 is your best bet. Nova 3 works the best on it and it has the best benchmarks. If you aren't willing to cough up the cash then go for the mini. Honestly, the next tablet I'm going to get is an iPad. Sorry everyone, I've been captured.

has anyone looked at porting Ubuntu Touch to the LGOG? I read somewhere that the porting is "easy" if you're running CM10.1. but I am no developer so that could be BS.

It's a fairly easy port, but I have stayed away from it because it is mostly not working, most apps are just for show, and it has bricked some nexus 4s, an issue that Canonical included in the release notes. I wouldn't be able to release it with that over my head.

Once it is more stable, I plan to bring it to our devices. It's just not worth the risk right now. I don't like releasing things that I know could brick people.
