I'm not the best at explaining myself so bare with me and sorry in advance!
Let's say my Android phone is 1080p
and my TV is 1080p
and I'm connecting my Android device to my TV via HDMI and it's in 1080p resolution...
My question is, will the resolution of the Android interface (GUI) change as well? Example: On a Non-HD Android phone, you'll have maybe 6x6 (rows/columns) of icons... on a HD Android phone, that pretty much stays the same (Why would you want 12x12 of icons on a 5" phone right? it'd be way too small to see all those icons and even harder to touch it with your finger)
So if your Android is connected TV in the same 1080p resolution, will it now display more icons? Or is it pretty much just mirroring the exact look of your phone? On my PadFone, it changes the entire interface from 'phone mode' to 'tablet mode'... That means when the phone is in the tablet, you now have tons more icons, tons more space for widgets, etc, etc... same resolution, but allows more space to be used.
Does that make sense? I'm trying to find an alternate setup to my PadFone, (using a 24" monitor as the phones screen)... but I would just hate to see enormous icons take up the entire monitor (6x6), I want to see more icons, more space.
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
I'm going to ask another question in this thread if you don't mind, 2 birds 1 stone kind of thing...
Let's say my android phone is NFC, and my computer is NFC, and they support the 'mirroring' thing... if I tap my phone to my computer, will it show up on the monitor and I can use the COMPUTER keyboard to write texts? The computer I'm looking at is the new Sony Laptop Tablet:

im comin out from the htc inpire, and now has the atrix, and when i use widgets/adwlauncher/adwdock/ they dont seem to take up the whole space in the homescreen, when i use adw launcher the docks are not extended all the way. is there a workaround to this?
It's because the density is a bit lower on the Atrix. I supposed if your phone is rooted and used LCD Density Changer app, you can put it back to normal. Haven't tested the app out yet though...
check out these comments about th home screen
Let’s start with the homescreen. With the Atrix 4G’s higher resolution, Motorola felt it was necessary to size down the homescreen so that objects fit in at their native resolution for an 800 x 480 phone. But, any widget I tried from an external developer was able to stretch just fine using a replacement launcher. It’s a little annoying to have this big border around your homescreen since it serves no purpose.

in the screenshots thread Ive seen homescreens that are fullscreen, docks that stretched all the way....?
It is because of the higher density; right now I'm using a launcher with just one screen; composed of the moto messaging, wifi, GPS, calamder, and clock with something else.
I like the Widgets and the way they look. Definitely love the screen though.

Is there any way to change the wallpaper on my out-of-the-box gTablet? I can press the classic home screen and get to the wallpapers/widgets etc but can only see the stock images for wallpaper selection.
I do not have Gallery on this tablet but do have new photos on the gTab (Picasa and downloaded) that I would like to use.
Anyone know where does the stock wallpaper (non animated) photos live on the gTab? Thank you!
first off out of box rom kinda sucks, but if you like go with it .
to change wallpaper on most roms is just pressing and holding down on the current background till a window pops up. there you will see a wallpaper option. gl
You might want to check out dodal Wallpaper Maker (AD), available from the Android Market. This app allows you to create wallpaper from your own images. Works fine for me on the gTablet.
Gary,
the out of the box ROM does not have the Android Market. I would use the suggestion from numberattic or install a custom ROM to get to the market.
Wallpaper help. Thanks!
Hi --
Thanks to each of you for responding. I wish I had time or interest in rooting this thing and changing out the ROM etc. I had expected something a little more professional. I prefer the Classic Home UI and am not happy that out of the box, I get 4 or 5 cheesy wallpapers (either live or static) and no access to Market etc. Prob the average user of this thing will not experience or care about this, but . . . it's worth to me to shell out a few more dollars and not have to hack anything to get it to where it should have been in the first place when I bought it.

Yes, I can and did do what numberattic suggested as is standard with Android but on the gTablet this only allows access to the pre-installed wallpapers and provides no add'l functionality at all. Trying to get images I have loaded in "Photos" to work as wallpaper is also apparently not possible with any combination of mashing, pressing, tapping etc etc etc.

I have an advent vega, it's a basic tablet running honeycomb, and it spends most of its time docked on my desk, currently I have it running a fire on loop, but due to the contrast ratio of the screen it doesn't look good.
Can anyone suggest anything? I like the screensaver on mac osx that can display an rss feed in a visually pleasing way, I would love something like this for my twitter feed or something like that on my tablet!
Thanks a lot!
I would just like to add, I'm looking for an app that would display large text if any, there are probably many apps that could show a live twitter feed, but i would like some sort of smooth animation I could read from a couple of metres away.
I have a RAZR Maxx on ICS and an Atrix Lapdock. The lapdock with webtop 3.0 works great and you can force the tablet UI to be used (navigation bar on the bottom, etc. etc.). However, when you open apps it still uses the phone version of the apps, which is somewhat annoying for certain apps.
For example, the gmail app. On a tablet, it has a neat interface for a larger screen with a split screen. On a phone, it's just one screen and looks a bit ridiculous when scaled up to a 10" screen.
Anyways, my question is if it's possible to force the tablet versions of the apps to either be used or installed (i'm not sure if the tablet versions of the apps are included when installed or if a different app is installed.) Perhaps the .apks could be extracted, slightly modded, and reinstalled under a slightly different name to use when on the lapdock.
I'm going to guess that anyone who uses the lapdock in ICS with any frequency would love to see a way to do this. And, to be honest, it'd just be nice to do this for a few apps, not every single app I have installed.
So, what do you think? Can it be done?
+1 for this

To respond to my own question....
It seems like the applications that dont have a nice webtop mode are the preinstalled system apps. You can enable the webtop mode by replacing the .apks for the system apps inside the /system/app folder with an .apk from a tablet. Not sure how well it will work after an update. For instance, I grabbed the gmail and talk .apks from my nook tablet and replaced the .apks on my phone...voila webtop gives the tablet view and the phone view is still good.

Hi. Sorry I can't give any help on your question, but could you please tell me how you got Maxx to work with the Atrix Lapdock? I have tried my Maxx with an Bionic and Atrix lapdock and the resolution is terrible. Things are stretched horizontally and the viewable portion of the screen is in letterbox. Almost 2/3's of my lapdock screen is wasted.
I really prefer the old version of webtop and do not like webtop 3.0 at all. Mostly because of the terrible resolution and small screen size.
Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thanks.

For most apps, there is a tablet version you can force inside webtop 3.0 by changing from phone version to webtop version with the little "maximize" looking arrow in the bottom right. You'll probably have to do it manually the first time for each app. (you'll see what I mean). As for the launcher, I setup my system so that I use apex when I'm normally using my phone and nova for when I'm using my lapdock. I simply change the default launcher back and forth when using one or the other. I setup nova to have a ton of icons in the dock (kinda ends up looking like MacOS with the program shortcuts on the bottom) and much more rows and columns on the desktop. I leave an easily accessible shortcut to apex on one screen for when I take my phone out of the webtop. I've thought about messing with the webtop init.d scripts or something to automatically change between launchers or trying to figure out how to have a launcher change some settings automatically. In general, it'd be nice to have a certain number of settings automatically change when bringing up webtop 3.0 in general.
Anyways....it all works pretty well once you get the tablet/webtop versions of everything going.
Good luck!

Thank you! Nova not in market, I will find it somewhere. Tried Halo launcher. Nope, better resolution but still letterbox. Does Nova fill the entire screen? Or will it still be letterbox? Thanks again!
Hello All - a quick bit of advice.
I am looking to get an android device to simply plug into a TV so that I can display a number of Widgets. A home dashboard if you will. (News, Train times, Weather that sort of thing).
Will one of the multitude of Android TV boxes you see that are designed for things like Kodi work for my needs or not? Is this overkill as I really do not need to use it for streaming and all that.
Is there a better option - some kind of stock/vanilla android device that will simply allow me to access play store -> install software -> and display widgets.
Thanks all!
