[Q] UK HOX+ User - 2 quick Qsns PLS - HTC One X+

Hi Guys
Upgraded from the HTC Desire to HOX+ a week ago.
Modded the life out of the desire (almost 2 years ago) and would love to do the same to the mighty HOX+.
No need to babysit me but can I please kindly request you guys to prod me in the right direction.
My phone is with the network/carrier O2 (UK)
CID is O2___001.
Android Version 4.1.
Just did a OTA update and am now running Software Number: 1.17.206.1.
After this OTA update, the HBOOT has changed from 1.3 to 1.35
HTC Sense Version: 4+
Baeband: 3.1204.168.32
Kernel Version: 3.1.10-gf…..
Baseband Number: 3.1204.168.32
I will be using Hasoon 2000's Toolkit to modify my phone.
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994961
and perhaps do a search for a youtube walkthrough to guide me...
I haven't got a spare micro-sim to test it, but am pretty sure the phone is network/carrier locked to O2. I rang them and they said they will send me the network unlock code in 10 days via email/post. This way i can use another network's sim when i am on holiday etc...
1. Can I root and flash a new rom on my hox+ NOW and then use O2s code in 10days time to network unlock my phone?
i.e. does the root/flashing a new rom affect the network unlock code?
On my desire, I only ever used one sense based rom: LEEDROID and I LOVED IT because:
Established developer, incredibly stable (never had a problem), great performance (RAM/battery), similar to stock and it had sense, but also added with cool features. I see he has released a ROM for the oneX but not the onex+.
2. In your opinion and seeing my priorities above, which ROM would be suitable for me as the Leedroid is not available?
A BIG THANK YOU,
Sonny
(suffering from phone OCD)

Dont know about question 1.
Q2.
Android Revolution HD!
Pure stock look, battery life is AMAZING. Works with quite a few MODs.
Its the first ROM I have flashed on my HOX+ and to be honest I'm not to fussed about trying anything else! As its just Rocking!
The community in the thread is also great! you basically get 24/7 support!

for network unlock codes to work, you need to be on a sense based rom, so if i were you just hold out for 10days and root afterwards.

I came from a desire (mildwild ROM ) and jumped to ARHD , loved it as a stock based ROM however I missed the power menu and pull down toggles so I'm now on maxwens AOKP port and its great. I may shift back to stock(ish) if HTC do a 4.2.2 based update though

Having major trouble rooting cos htcdev site not mailing unlock files etc....
Very frustrating. There is no other way?

If I install apps, wallpaper etc. then network unlock with the code, and THEN root/flash, I guess all my data will go. Will a nandroid backup before flashing a sense based rom solve this issue and I can restore from it after flashing?
Of course if I am flashing a sense based Rom then as you say, I can network unlock on it because the network unlock code simply needs a sense based Rom to work (the network unlock doesn't care about root etc.)
Basically my main aims are speed (not just from the hardware but from the design of the user interface of the ROM) and battery conservation.

New owner of HTC Hero with a couple of questions

Hi,
I just bought an HTC Hero off eBay today (still waiting for it) and it comes from T-Mobile but it's unlocked. However, I'm looking at debranding the phone and I want to install the original HTC ROM's instead of T-Mobile's.
I've been reading these forums and there are original HTC ROM's, original HTC but rooted ROM's, custom ROM's and etc... I'm not interested in the custom ones at the moment, I just want to get the original stuff for now, but without the T-Mobile branding. Also, this way, I can always be updated with the latest changes from HTC.
As far as I understand this, I'll have to root it at least once to install a new ROM right? And after that, maybe I should install the generic but rooted HTC ROM so that in the future I have the phone rooted already and everything's easier, correct? Is this the recommend approach or should I install the latest original and untouched HTC ROM?
For now I don't see many benefits from rooting the phone, and I think I just want to make things easier by using the original HTC ROM so that in the future I can use HTC own utilities (RUU I believe) to update the phone. In other others, I'm waiting eagerly for HTC update with Android 2.0 and I just want be able to install it directly from HTC when it comes out. I'll deal with rooting and custom firmwares later if I really see the need.
So, what's the best procedure to install the latest generic HTC ROM?

[Q] Need help with some basic questions

Alright, I did a quick search and nothing popped up and I'm looking for the latest information anyway. Also I'm a complete beginner here
Alright, I installed a new stereo into my car and everything works great. Except that when I'm streaming the stock google music app the tags do not show up on the display. According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560609&page=22 this is a common problem with the receiver and it appears that most/all stock ROMs will not display tags. So according to that thread I need a custom ROM specifically one that runs 4.1. I guess 4.2 does not show tags on any ROM.
So my question for you is. What is the best 4.1 ROM to use? What is the most stable that has all of the features of my stock OS?
Also what tutorials do you guys suggest. I was planning on using the ones found here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155576. What does GSM mean btw?
Sorry for being so clueless on this. Thanks for the help guys!
Well im kind of nooby to, but i can tell you what gsm means. It means a sim card based phone or network (gsm phone, gsm network, etc.). Such as T-Mobile or ATT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_identity_module
The opposite of GSM is CDMA (CDMA based network, CDMA based phone), you don't need a sim card for your phone, I guess your phone comes programmed to whatever carrier. Major networks are Verizon and Sprint.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_division_multiple_access
GSM phones are easier to switch carriers with, just unlock your phone and pop in what ever sim card from any carrier you want (although you may face limited functionality, such as only 2g).
If your razr has any Verizon branding (Verizon logo) its the CDMA xt912, or you can tell its CDMA if on the back of the phone it says xt912, and by going into "Settings"> "About Phone" (scroll down)> "Model Number". The GSM variant has no Verizon branding and has an xt910 on the back, and by going into "Settings"> "About Phone" (scroll down)> "Model Number". So when people say xt910 its GSM and xt912 its CDMA. Do not install roms for the other phone (if you have GSM do not install a CDMA rom, vice versa, unless you use patches such as this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805380, make sure the rom you want is supported).
The rom i use is CM10.1 (cyanmod 10.1) its really stable accept for me, camera doesn't work (I usually carry my "un-hacked", other phone with me so it doesn't matter) Its based of of 4.2.2 here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028020

Thanks so much for the response. I was worried for a second. Well I found out earlier today what the difference between CDMA and GSM. Mine is the xt912. Thanks again for clearing that up for me.
As for the ROM I believe that the 10.1 is based off of 4.2 where as 10 is based off of 4.1. I'm looking for a 4.1 ROM that has all the features including the camera and everything I'd expect from my phone. I don't mind it being old or anything. I'd actually prefer it. Can anyone help with that? Suggest a ROM to use? I've been looking around all day today and didn't find anything that looked that great. I wouldn't mind CM9 if it was more stable. Just looking for one that isn't based off of 4.2.
Thanks again for the response though! It was very helpful.

Yup, no problem.
These roms are all CDMA xt912 roms, these require JB kernel (pretty much JB as your phone's stock rom) If you do not have JB official as your stock here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083129
(If you don't have already) Your going to need Safestrap recovery 3.11 before you can install roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391900
Make sure you uninstall any recovery you have installed (such as Bootstrap, and any other Safestrap version) before you install Safestrap 3.11.
Here are some stable roms (with everything working):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109581
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128635
BTW I would suggest just sticking to the stock JB rom
I couldn't find any completely stable roms based of the ICS kernel (petty much ICS as your stock rom). If you need help with any thing or run into any problems (I've ran into allot and I've learned how to fix) just message me or post right here. BTW your going to lose root after you update to JB kernel unless you follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083129

[Q] NOOB questions htc flyer

Hello all,
I am fairly new to this whole rooting business so a few questions:
1) been doing some reading and found out that the best way to root htc devices and especially my htc flyer is using the s'off method. Please correct me if i am wrong. Also, is there a simple guide I can follow to root my flyer?
2) I am currently running the default android version 3.2.1 and would like to upgrade to the latest jelly bean 4.1 or 4.2. Is there a clean non bloated ROM out there that I can use? The best one i've come across is the [ROM][10-feb-13][PEN/WIFI][JellyBean/4.1.1] DextersJB.
3) The htc flyer wifi version is a tablet only device (no phone calls possible) wit it also remain that way after install a custom rom?
Thanks in advance!
ABH83
1) What hboot version? If your hboot version is supported, you can S-off using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
If you are hboot 1.11.0011 (seems common on here lately) then you might check this out (can't personally vouch for it): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070140
Otherwise, you will have to settle for S-on and bootloader unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881748
That's correct that S-off is better. With S-on and bootloader unlock, you have to flash boot.img (kernel) separately with fastboot every time you flash a custom ROM.
2) I personally haven't used any of the ICS and JB custom ROMs, as all of them have at least some hardware elements that don't completely work. But Dexters has always looked pretty good. I think NexusFlyer is the only other JB custom ROM.
3) Your device doesn't have the hardware to work on a cell network, so it won't be able to make cell phone calls, no matter what you do to it on the software side. Of course, you can use internet calling service like Skype over WiFi networks. But that is probably not what you are talking about.

Google Edition ATT ??

Noticed that my phone did not take the OTA 4.3 update. I got to looking around and read some on converting HTC One to a Google Edition. Can someone help me understand the advantages of a GEdition phone as opposed to the ATT one? Too, is it a good ROM (I assume it will be a stock).
I'm really STUCK because I want to update my HTC One but I want to keep ROOT. I'm using Stock now, but I cannot seem to find a reliable ROM. Help help!
Thanks in advance!!

At first I really didn't like my ATT stock Sense ROM primarlily because of All that ATT crap-ware they had preinstalled.
I actually got Android 4.3 GE RUU for HTC one up and running....and...at first glance...it seemed really clean and nice! Didn't have any ATT stuff which was a big plus.
Hoping for a clean, stable, custom developer esque ROM........But I really am not a big superFan of Google for all my services...
(I use AdblockPlus on my MacbookAir, Windows XP Desktop at home, while checking my Yahoo email from my Mozilla Browser)
As of now, I ended up with Android_Revlotion HD-One_31.6 Stock ROM and have not changed for like almost a week from writing this feed.,
GPE is pure Android. If that's what you like, do it. I did it to one of my One's, and it was boring. I converted the other to the Developer Edition, and now I have Sense without all of the ATT goodness that they put on these phones. I really like it this way. Not hard to do either. You can get the Brightstar edition RUU from HTCDev. Then just make sure you either use BS__US001, or 11111111 as your CID, and relock bootloader. Since you are still on Hboot 1.44, I would certainly go S-Off before you do this, it makes it easier.
guys, so is it possible to transform my ATT HTC ONE to a GPE HTC ONE? Updates by google?

Yes, I did this and used it for about a month but I do like the sense features better.
1. Obtain S-OFF
2. Change CID to GOOGL001
3. Flash the Google Stock RUU which can be found on the XDA forums
4. Receive OTA updates.
If you need instructions to any of the steps above, google it.

[Q] confused about main firmware and rom bases

First of all this is my first post. Hello to everyone. I have been searching/reading thru these forums. Great source of info.
Phone info:
Currently S-OFF, unlocked, lateset AT&T 4.4.2 firmware, viperone 6.2.1, twrp
I have a pretty good comprehension of how to install or revert pretty much anything that can be done to this phone and have done so with great success. What I don't understand is the relationship between the firmware base of an RUU and the build of any given ROM. How is it that a custom Rom based off let's say x.xx.401.x work with x.xx.502.x main version? The devs say to update to the most current available firmware. Does that mean I have to flash a firmware base that matches what the Rom base for optimal performance? Because I originally thought that was the case and when I did my phone developed syncing issues particularly with the stock mail and weather apps. They would only sync over WiFi. Everything else about the phone worked as normal. Believing there was a problem with the Rom I flashed a few different popular roms on here. Always returning to full AT&T stock first. I later fully converted to GPE and to my surprise everything worked as normal. So I then converted to stock developer edition by way of zip flash and RUU exe. (By the way, when I say stock I mean s-off & unlocked but otherwise factory.) Received all the ota's. Main version would show as x.xx.1540.x. supposedly this would make my phone a dev edition with AT&T as the provider. And yet the syncing problems returned. So once again I returned back to factory AT&T 4.4.2 and all returned to normal. I then decided to try and use a Rom based off 4.4.2 and not one from 4.4.3; expecting the syncing issues to return only this time they didn't. So now I am really confused.
My questions are:
If coming from 4.4.2 factory firmware, is it best to run a Rom from the same base or am I doing something wrong and I should be able to use a Rom from a newer base on an older firmware?
If the developer edition and GPE can be carried by AT&T then why was I having syncing issues with the developer edition and not GPE?
I thought by being s-off I should be able to flash any RUU from any carrier without problems, just that I would be limited to the network capabilities of the actual service provider.
Everything I know about this stuff I learned from this forum. But I think I missed something.
My AT&T M7 always works best on the stock software.
The only thing I could figure is that AT&T have refined the software and radio so well that all the other versions pale in comparison.
I noticed the Developers Edition always had a horrible Bluetooth and WiFi radio. Signal strength was always weak compared to the stock AT&T software.
To answer your questions
Flash any version Roms you want on the latest AT&T firmware. And you'll have the best your phone can be.

I get so mixed up with all the terms being used interchangeably. So to clarify, as long as I am using the latest firmware from AT&T (currently 5.12.502.2 kk4.4.2), I can flash any custom ROM base. Whether it is based on 4.4.2 or higher. Correct?
I still want to know why I experienced the sync problems while running the factory x.xx.1540.x dev edition but not with the GPE. I never tried the factory x.xx.401.x WWE firmware either. However, I just got an sim unlock code from AT&T earlier today. I'm gonna try that maybe tomorrow and see if it makes a difference altho I don't believe it should. And I'm not gonna switch to a different provider.
Honestly, I was happy with my phone before I got wrapped up in all of this. I just decided to tinker with the phone and the mod bug has bitten.

I think I figured this out. I continued to flash different ROMs and firmwares with the same results as I posted in the OP. Then earlier tonight I decided to try to convert to developer edition again (x.xx.1540.x) and flashed an ruu.zip, went thru the setup process, and as before the same issues returned. Then I had an idea; lets try something I haven't done yet. I pulled the SD card and factory reset the phone. After I completed the basic setup process I inserted the SD card and let the phone do its thing. The phone now works as it should (same as it does with the AT&T xx.502.x firmware installed).
Just figured I would pass this along.
Cheers
I give up
I thought I had this figured out. Last night after to converting to dev edition with all updates, everything seemed normal. I flashed the latest viperone rom as it is the rom I want. Turn the phone on this morning and the sync problems are present once again. I have searched thru a tom of pages on this sight alone. I cant find an answer. So its back to stock at&t.
I solved the problem. Incorrect settings in 4636 menu.
