Is there a way to unlock bootloader yet I'm a little confused. I am running OTA and it is rooted. The only download I have on my computer that will flash in ODIN and take me back to stock is ROOT66_VZW_SYSTEM.TAR.MD5 this flashes in ODIN and works fine but I can't unlock with CASUAL I am following instructions on ADAMS video but CASUAL will not unlock.
Any suggestions or help appreciated thank you!
It can't be unlocked yet

I have stock OTA Gingerbread. Is there a way to root without unlocking the bootloader? Thanks in advance
I have rooted my OTA gingerbread device without unlocking. I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15892895&postcount=69
using fastboot and the preinstall.img method. It works like a charm. Good luck!
Thanks I will try this now
I am currently rooted using the AIO method and also locked. I am thinking about unlocking and installing CWM instead of Boostrap. The only video I found has a root plus Clockwork. My question is: since I am already rooted, if I attempt to root again per the video, will this screw up my device? Also, do I need to use Pudding to unlock my bootloader before I install CWM? Sorry for the noob questions, I am just very confused on the order to do things. I recently said "eff it" on losing 4G and became ENTHRALLED in CWM and flashing ROMS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Links, vids, it will all help!!
Just flash the 1mb pudding bootloader using rsd lite. When the flashing is at 100% it will fail, don't panic just continue with the moto-fastboot step.
Now you should be unlocked.
After this you can go for installing CWM

Hi I have been away from the scene awhile now and in the process of rooting and unlocking my Note 2's boot-loader. Am I right to assume that all I need to do is use casual on Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" - Cinnamon (64-bit) and it will both root and unlock the boot-loader of my phone. I ask this because I have read this stickie:
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
and it says to first root with odin and then use casual to unlock the boot-loader. Just ant to make sure casual both roots and unlocks without me needing t use odin first. Thanks in advanced.

Ok so I can just go from stock jelly bean and use this method without flashing stock odin rom? Sorry I like to be super careful when I do anything with the chance of bricking my device.
never mind
Okay, so I restored animusFL's deodexed stock backup, and then I flashed the CWM recovery V20F update, but now my phone is stuck at the T-Mobile logo, and even if I try to flash a KDZ with S/W upgrade mode it doesn't work because I was previously on JB. I'm unable to access my homescreen to activate LG Software Mode. Can somebody please provide me with a simple hotfix? Please I need this fixed before night lol.
EDIT: I'm unable to access my Locked Bootloader CWM as well, before the flash I selected to preserve root and recovery but it didn't work... So now I have a phone that says T-Mobile constantly. /:

Hey llxaot, I'd be interested to know if you tried Kuma82's suggestion & if it worked. I'm in a similar boat ... working phone, but locked bootloader and not rooted on P769 with v20f OTA.
Kuma82, my phone is fully functional now. I'm "simply" trying to unlock bootloader & root the device. The methods in the links look to restore function of a device that's been soft-bricked, etc.
Is this the only currently known method for unlocking bootloader on P769 v20f?
Basically get fastboot working via Lelus script, flash the uboot and xloader from the 3rd link in that post & I'll be unlocked & have ICS recovery on device?
Then, I just need to flash back JB, flash CWM recovery (if I want) and root?
SO DAMN CONFUSING...this is by far the most difficult phone I've ever worked with.

I fixed it with Lelus' help. Kuma's would definitely work but I can't seem to get fastboot to work. Anyways, what I did was went into LG PC Suite and clicked on Device -> Emergency Recovery or something like that. Make sure you don't have the local server setup from cmahendra's offline KDZ flash method. Then you just find where you put in your device's IMEI code or whatever and click OK, it'll flash the stock v20F firmware straight from LG's server to your phone! Then you have to re-root (I recommend LG Pwn method) and install busybox and then flash Artas locked CWM recovery. About the whole bootloader thing, just wait. @carloswii5 is making a video to upload soon on how to do it, that's when noobs like you and I can do this.
I have tried Flashing my Note II to the new RD3s Rom and bricked my phone due to the locked bootloader. I was able to restore my phone back to the factory Rom 4.3 UEMJ9, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THIS AGAIN. How should I go about this? Should I flash my phone back to VRALJB or VRAMC3 to be able to unlock the bootloader or is there a way to do it with the present UEMJ9 Build. Thank you for your help!!!!

I am guessing you used Odin to flash mj9 4.3. Once you have done that or accepted the ota for mj9 or above, there is no going back to a previous version. Your bootloader is locked with currently no way to unlock it.

So is there anyway to try custom roms without unlocking the bootloader? Or should I just upgrade to kit kat and take it on the chin?
