Hi I have been away from the scene awhile now and in the process of rooting and unlocking my Note 2's boot-loader. Am I right to assume that all I need to do is use casual on Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" - Cinnamon (64-bit) and it will both root and unlock the boot-loader of my phone. I ask this because I have read this stickie:
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
and it says to first root with odin and then use casual to unlock the boot-loader. Just ant to make sure casual both roots and unlocks without me needing t use odin first. Thanks in advanced.

Ok so I can just go from stock jelly bean and use this method without flashing stock odin rom? Sorry I like to be super careful when I do anything with the chance of bricking my device.

I am using the exploit from Chainfire for root and want to use the Note 2 toolkit. I see it says you must have an unlocked bootloader to use toolkit.I also see the post by Adam to unlock it but have no idea where to start since the video contradicts the OP itself with the files indicated.
Is there a link to simply change the bootloader for Verizon?
Thanks

Previously, we used toolkit to unlock, root, and flash custom recovery. The ability to unlock the device was the huge benefit of using toolkit. However, toolkit cannot unlock the bootloader if there is a restriction on it. Adam is the first person who unlock the bootloader successfully (he's our savior!!!). It seems like as of right now, we can only unlock the device manually via Adam's method. So the toolkit doesn't do the huge deal for us, and it's pretty much useless.
Hey guys, I came from the S3 to the note 2 and just had a few questions.
Before unlocking you need to root correct? I have a great guide, just wanted to make sure I root before I unlock.
second, is there a easy way to unlock? I couldnt find a guide around here, before for my s3 i used an app, but cant use it with the note 2.
Thanks,
I think most would tell you to search first...but In the original android development forum there is a root unlock thread thats super easy and like 2 or 3 steps just follow it and make sure all your drivers are up to date and its simple you have to be completely stock to do it and to make sure all you drivers are up to date I personaly made sure that rom toolbox worked and saw my phone first...but theres a huge thread on it
Root is easy with the exynos exploit. Simunlock is easy erasing nvram. Twrp is easily installed via goo. Note2 is a walk in the park.

If you plan to unlock the bootloader either way, you might as well do it all at once. The only way to do this for verizon is Adam Outler's method. It is a very easy to follow two step process that will root and unlock your phone. Start bone stock, follow his directions takes 10 minutes tops. There is even a video (just search as noted above).
Don't root first, you'll run into problems and have to ODIN back to stock. I had the hardest time unlocking my phone all because I rooted it first. Once I got it back to stock it was simple. Follow the unlock bootloader thread in the original development sub forum.
Is there a way to unlock bootloader yet I'm a little confused. I am running OTA and it is rooted. The only download I have on my computer that will flash in ODIN and take me back to stock is ROOT66_VZW_SYSTEM.TAR.MD5 this flashes in ODIN and works fine but I can't unlock with CASUAL I am following instructions on ADAMS video but CASUAL will not unlock.
Any suggestions or help appreciated thank you!
It can't be unlocked yet

I thought it was necessary to unlock the bootloader on android phones before i could root them and flash different roms. A buddy of mine had rooted his old s3 but forgot to unlock the bootloader, so when he tried restarting it, it soft bricked. For the longest time I thought you had to unlock the bootloader then root the phone in order to flash custom roms, have I been wrong all this time?
Think of the Loki workaround as a way to trick the bootloader into flashing improperly signed files. Its like using a credit card on the bolt of a locked door. The door is still locked but you get through anyway.

And what are the risks of using the loki tool if you use it correctly? if there is an OTA update to the phone, will it mess it all up?
You don't you the tool...the developers do. And technically, it is only used for flashing a recovery and flashing ROMS with the recovery. You can root without unlocking the bootloader because there is an pre-release official rootable kernel than can be flashed with Odin. It flashes because it is legit.
So I should be able to just go to the how to root page on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 and follow the instructions and flash one of the roms as usual?
yes,go ahead
It's a tough thing to search for. Google thinks I'm looking to root or unlock my phone.
I've followed the steps in a video thread entitled "[HOW TO] Unbrick, Unroot, Relock Verizon Galaxy S4" successfully. However the padlock icon is unlocked when the device boots up.
Can Odin or similar tool re-lock the bootloader of an ME7 Galaxy S4?
Do I need to PDA back to MDK?
Not concerned with losing files. Just need to return the device to factory stock.
Well first of all you might be a little confused here... the ME7 firmware currently has no way to unlock the bootloader yet so if you somehow found a way please share with us and collect your money
Anyway, you can get back to stock using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259
I have a locked brand new s4 if you wanna trade lol

Boot into recovery and clear the cache.
My phone is rooted with xposed framework with Wanam Xposed and I don't have the screen that indicates "custom" and my device shows up as official in the about screen.
I also have taken the recent OTA.
That worked, Craw.
Thank you & goodnight.
