[Q] Deleting all files from the internal storage - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
after trying a few ROMs, I noticed that in the process of upgrading or restoring to a backup all my GS3 files had been cloned to a folder named "0" on the internal storage.
I decided i want to format it.
How can I do it?
Is it safe to format it (right click on windows > format)?
Will a hard reset do the trick?
Thanks in advance, Alon.
btw, I searched for an answer and all the solutions I could find were inconclusive.
I'm currently using WanamLite rom if it's relevant.

Answer was posted on the XDA portal this week .
Format via CWM recovery .
jje

Hi,
Thanks!
I could not find it on the portal, but i'm guessing it's the "format /sdcard" option.
After formating, will I have to flash a rom via Odin3?
If so, does it have to be the stock version, or will I have the option of rooting and then flashing a rom the normal way?
sorry for the questions,
if there is a manual i'll be happy to get a link, since I couldn't find one.
thank you again!

Stock rom then root then custom rom.
Or put custom rom on ext sd card then root boot to recovery and flash .

New to S II, NOOB QUESTIONS

Ok i am new to this phone, just some questions. I am coming from NEXUS S.
First of all, I flashed CWM 4.0 using ODIN, so how did it update itself to 5.0??
Second, with 4.0 I dont have any problems, but with 5.0.2.7, how do you mount internal memory??
What is emmc, efc etc. In nexus S, it just used to mount internal memory because it never had a slot for micro SD. But since this phone has internal and additional SD slot, maybe there is a way to mount internal memory too on CWM 5.0? On 4.0 i just select mount USB storage and it mounts but not on 5.0. It just says - "unable to write to ums lunfile". How do you guys mount storage to flash roms???
Also, I want to do a complete clean install on this other ROM. How can I flash everything from 100% clean??
Also, on this other ROM, the apps were being downloaded automatically from saved settings under google account. Then all of a sudden after a few apps, it just said - ERROR DOWNLOADING. No more space left or something....but I had lots of space though...whats going on here???
Please help me with this issue, I will be really thankful.
Sorry, don't mean this to come out the wrong way, but, Please search the forums with the search bar, also faq in general and q&a etc. first. Google will help also.
After that, come back and ask, most more experienced users will then be willing to try explain if able.

Of course i searched and still couldnt find any helpful details. This is why I posted here. Please help anyone.
I can't answer your first or third question but I'll answer the second one. In order to get a fresh install, you need to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe system. After that, then you can flash the ROM you want.

When you mount the phone via CWM using USB Storage or when you use a file explorer inside any ROM, you can find under /sdcard the internal memory of the phone and under /sdcard/sd_external the SD card in the phone slot (if you have one SD inserted).

Reboot on CWM with the ROM install zip in the SD card and delete /cache /data and /system, and install the ROM.
As for the other errors, I would suggest you see if the internal memory is really available or the ROM is using it for other purposes...

Photos deleted after flashing stock ROM via Odin

Hi,
I'm new and though I've watched the noob video I hope I'm in the right place, if not please dont get angry ><.
2 days ago I've flashed into stock rom for my SG3 (GT-i9300) back from my RGUI v5 Build number: MIUI-2.8.3 IMM76D / Kernal version: 3.0.38-Siyah-s3-v1.3.9c
Ask me why? because I've had some issues trying to install official MIUI v4 from the international website and always I get error: "Status 7" with a dead android inside. (Again, Why ? because I as hoping it would make my SG3 even smoother... more responsive)
So I though perhaps flashing it from a stock rom might work, so I used Odin and everything went fine, again ofcourse I got the error and went back to CWM to restore the backup i've made before flashing anything, I dont really mind about the error right now, I've seen similar posts about it and I shall continue investigating it, What's more important is on the next phrase.
Today I found out that all my photos were deleted, after restoring my RGUI v5 rom 2 days ago ofcourse....
I'm not sure how could the situation get any better though I remember previously flashing rom's that the SD card never being touched and I guess I was wrong.
What I wanted to ask is, I just got more CWM backup files on my external SD, does anyone knows if CWM backup restores user data aswell or should I just give up ?
Helpfull tips of how to restore it could be usefull (Oh lord, please spare me I beg you, I'll pray more).
Thanks in advance.
I've flashed hundreds of times on S1, S2 and now S3 and never lost any data or photos that are on either the internal or external sd cards.
Not sure but could it be that you somehow hit format sd card in cwm by accident?

Have you searched your internal and external storage? Maybe they were only stored on a different location so that the stock Gallery cannot find them?
Storages are either completely wiped or not wiped - but you don't only loose one particular folder

I tried to install 3rd party Gallery program which scans my SD's for photos and it could nothing.... Its probably not there.
I think all is lost unless one of my backups contains them.

Unfortunately cwm backups do not backup stuff on the sd card like photos. Looks like you've lost them man.

In a more optimistic view there are worse things, and although its quite hard to swollow all I've got left to do is say thanks to every one for trying...
Thanks.
Sorry, but this is a "Well Duh..." moment.... Flashing any stock rom through ODIN will always wipe the data partition on the internal sd card. You need to backup the internal stuff onto your PC. Only a stock firmware that has been modded will allow a non-wipe flash and you usually need to be rooted as it is no longer a stock rom.
You should be able to restore a nandroid backup of a stock rom too without wiping the internal sd card as this is only putting the system data back onto your phone...

[Q] Android Revolition HD - i ****ed it up

hey guys
the title of the thread sums it pretty much up.
i had cm9 on my i9300. but i was having trouble with it. when i call somebody i could hear them, but they could not hear me.
so i decided to switch to ARHD.
i followed the guide.
accidently i put super wipe and the rom in the internal sd card.
after that i did the super wipe. then, logically there was no rom in the internal section anymore.
now i cant boot. i tried to put the rom into my external sdcard but it says "E: cant mount /sdcard/
do you have any tips what i should to now?

Good for you mate, but next time read carfully what the developer said about installation of his OWN Rom.ok We all learn from mistakes and ur not the first or the last person to do so.
i agree to nhariamine formating the ext. SD card before using it is the first step so your phone will recognize your ext SD card.
Good mate. Did you manage to install arhd now?

[Q] International galaxy S3, only 547 total space

My oncle offers me an international galaxy S3 but only with 547 mb total space.
I want to know if it is a bad partition issue or a manufacturing defect .
I'm living in Africa an in my country there is no samsung repair center.
The phone is rooted and runs a 4.2.2 custom rom (Carbon) with Boeffla-Kernel
Sorry for my english, i speak french

maybe its full of nandroid backups, have you checked for the nandroid backup. you you have clockworkmod recovery installed try to see if any nandroid backups are stored in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/, it there are any you may backup them to your pc and delete them and get the free space. this happens when backup in internal storage is performed.. one backup may be from 1-3 GBs depending upon different partitions.

To get all the storage space back go to settings, security and factory reset. This will wipe the phone data and format the internal storage.

this is because u didn't read the Faq's and Guides first. Why all beginners nowdays don't read the faqs and guides nowdays... and let me tell you what is giving this problem, its because of flashing lots of firmware and roms even without knowing what wrong that would do, this is not a manufacture defect.. and as you said there is no repair center, this would be nearly impossible to find out the solution to your problem.. have you visited other repair shops or centers, who sell samsung's phone and repair too, maybe they can solve this problem..

I've flashed stock firmwares just to try to fix my 547Mb storage pb, not for fun...
As a good GS3 beginner, i've read the FAQ, that's why i've backed up my efs partition and restore it when i face the IMEI + SN issue.
No there is not such repair shops or centers in my country.
I have no choice, i think i would rather buy a 16 or 32gb sdcard and find a way to put my apps on external sdcard
Thank you for your replies :good:

[Q] Reverting back from Dual booting

I don't think Dual booting was good enough for me, device lags a lot afterwards.
anyways I've been looking around for ways to revert back to normal booting, this could be achieved ofc by installing another Kernel, but the storage space for the second ROM is unavailable. how can I get that back? thank you.
also, I wanted to extract my nandroid from the device, but I couldn't find it anywhere except in the CWM. any help on this too?
much appreciated.
thank you.
