There are a few threads on this subject but none of them have produced a working result for me.
I have a variety of devices all on the AT&T network and all LTE capable that I need to limit the LTE connection on.
On Samsung phones in a No-SIM mode you can enter *#2263# to get into the "ServiceMode" that I can select the band to use.
[1] Automatic
[2] WCDMA Band Preference [*]
[3] GSM Band Preference
[4] LTE Band Preference
Setting it to WCDMA ALL limits it to 4G non-LTE networks.
This solution works for me; however it only works on Samsung devices.
HTC, Sony, Pantech, and LG do not support this. (Or at least they do not support this method)
There are apps on the market that allow you to turn off LTE, however they are all CDMA only (probably all from the Thunderbolt app and modded)
Does anyone have input as to how to throttle LTE to HSPA+ on AT&T Android phones?
I need to be able to do this without rooting the phones.

I managed to unlock my Vibrant, but I can't seem to get AT&T 3G on it. Do I need to change done settings to get it to work?
Its only works where AT&T only runs its 1900 MHz band but AT&T mostly runs 850 MHz which the Samsung vibrant does not have. I think the original Samsung galaxy s has it but not us.

Check the bands for this and the att version of the galaxy the ones that are the same are the ones that yours will work on, seems like it would have been easier to get the att galaxy s
You can get 3g by ATT if it is there (available)
This is where you got to go to nmodify the bands and force the phone to recognize. I have used this in Hawaii so, I know it does work. You have to lock the band that is sending the 3g. The Vibrant has Quad band so you just need to know which one is the one they are using.
Okay…so do at your own risk. You can go back and set the phone to its default automatic gsm/cdma settings.
Dial: *#*#197328640#*#*
Click [1] debug screen
Click [8] phone control
Click [7] network control
Click [2] band selection
This is where you make a change, default setting is [1] automatic, which means it chooses automatically between gsm/cdma (Edge vs 3g). So we are going to change this and set it to wcdma band which is 3g.
Click [2] wcdma band
Click [1] wcdma all []
Now it should display “select wcdma all bands [*]"
Now on the bottom of your phone, click the menu key, it’s the one next to the home key, now click back, menu again one more time, back one more time, this is just to confirm it set to number 2 wcdma band.
Now click menu key one last time, click end.. and you are done. Now to double verify that the phone is locked into 3g, dial in: *#*#4636#*#*
Then click phone information Then scroll down to “set preferred network type” It should now have listed “wcdma only.” PS, if you tried to do a shortcut, and just set wcdma this way first without doing the lock above, it would just go back to gsm/cdma auto once you exit the screen.
Good luck

That is my understanding as well. The FCC reports shows AWS and 1900MHz. No 850MHz.

Pretty sure 1900MHz AT&T 3G worked automatically once I unlocked the phone.
Hello, I have a AT&T HTC Inspire 4g.
I don`t live in the States, and my problem with that is the fact that in my country the 3g network runs at 2100, and the phone isn`t supporting it.
I read that my operator runs 2g on 900, and also checked that the phone supports it, but there is no option in the menu to change from 3g/4g to 2g
Can you tell me how and if I can do it
Thank you in advance
SOLVED!
Fist write this in "Phone"
*#*#4636#*#*
Then change->
Phone information > Set preferred network type > to GSM only
Then make new access point names - name: simple, apn: simple
I have a one converted to GPE and where I live I get great LTE coverage. However at work its weak and my one is constantly switching between LTE and hspa.
How would I set my phone to only connect to hspa while at work to avoid the constant switching? In setting under network mode there is only options for LTE 3g and 2g.
Does 3g include hspa and if not I've read about a code to enter from dialpad that allows u to set netowkr. I need a method that will allow me to easily switch it depending on where I am.
If anyone knows how to do this any help would be great.
Honor 9N is a latest budget phone from Huawei Honor.
For Indian customers, it comes with network settings as 4 options ( LTE/WCDMA/GSM Auto), (WCDMA, GSM Auto), (WCDMA only) and (GSM only).
While the network signal is weak we don't get LTE band as it jumps down to the lower signal WCDMA or GSM.
Here I will explain how to enable LTE only option in settings.
Steps:
Download the app : Settings database editor
Scroll down and look for "hw_networkmode_preference" and change its value from "9,3,2,1" to "9,3,2,1,11". save it.
Then restart your device.
Now the LTE only option will be available in Settings > Mobile Network.
Remember one thing : You will no longer receive or make a call when you are in LTE only signal. It's because only Jio supports 4G calls (VoLTE).
If you are using any other Network Service like Vodafone In, Idea... Etc, use LTE only option only when it's needed and change into ( LTE/WCDMA/GSM Auto) later to receive calls.
Thanks.:victory:
Screen shot from my Honor 9N.
Values : 9,3,2,1,11,12
Gives :
LTE/WCDMA/GSM Auto
WCDMA/GSM Auto
WCDMA Only
GSM Only
LTE Only
LTE/WCDMA Auto
Changing LTE bands
I bought Honor 9N in India. To my disappointment, I cannot use it with T-Mobile in the U.S. Is there any way to change it? (Full confession: My knowledge of software/hardware is pretty poor)

Hi guys, just a quick question here. My LTE (4g) is hit and miss so I currently have it set to WCDMA preferred/GSM.
Is there such an option that can give me WCDMA preferred/LTE? (So that my phone can automatically switch to LTE in areas where's its stronger than WCDMA)
If I have it on default LTE preferred it will only switch to WCDMA when LTE is non existant which is useless. I just want it to switch to what ever has the highest signal.
Cheers ?
