100% Bricked ?! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's how it happened :
Flashed latest Dorimanx kernel last night on the latest Disaster Rom and then began texting, watching some youtube, usual stuff and then went to sleep.
In the morning I couldn't turn it on.
Then I hold the power button but it went bootlooping and kept staying on that Dorimanx starting image.
I succesfully booted and it showed battery at 9% ( it was at 90% when I went to bed).
My first thought was to wipe cache so I did that. But here's the problem.
It got stuck at wiping cache and nothing happened so I removed the battery and then it was dead.No sign of life.
So my question is: It's completely bricked and I can get it returned whitout them knowing that I have been using custom ROM's ?
Cheers

Did you tried to charge it for at least 20 minutes?
If it won't charge, try to replace battery...
Bootloop is not a big deal (wipes will do the job) try replace/charge battery first, then if you still have problems just flash stock via odin and start over...

What I'm trying to say it's that it doesn't show any sign of life.No download mode,no recovery,no nothing.
I've left it with the charger plugged in for about 3 hours and nothing.

check the battery voltage, and or charge the battery externally. make sure its not a power issue first.

And what we're trying to say is try another battery. If that doesn't work, finita la musica.

Yoh. It happened to me before. Some said charge your phone for a while. If it becomes warm near the battery, you can unbrick it a jig.
But my phone didn't get warm. So, I send it to the Samsung service center and yesterday I got it back.
Samsung messed with me for two times! I'm not going to buy another samsung.

That's nice. I've had my phone 15 months & had zero problems with it. Funny about that (there's a hint in there for people clever enough to figure it out).

Hey no worries bro I have bricked 2 sgs2's already and 1 sgs3. Yours is not bricked, happened to me as well. All you must do is connect usb to pc, while keeping the battery out. Then try turn it on normally. then, while it is on, insert your battery again and leave it to charge via usb for a while(tille batt is at least 85%, what I did). Then, before unplugging usb, turn phone off. Unplug usb and go into recovery and flash as per usual. You should be good now. Hope it helps.

Can't turn it on

Hi guys,
three days ago I installed Darkyrom HD on my mates Galaxy S2, everything went smooth. But 10 minutes ago he called and said that the phone woudn't turn on!
He says he can't get response out of it. No recovery or hard reset with nor without battery in.
Don't hope it's perma bricked and it seems weird that it suddenly wont turn on.
Any ideas/help?
Thanks a lot.
At the same time press volume up + home button + power on to enter CWM.
Is his battery charged?

Does it get a response if holding down the power button for 8-10 sec? This will essentially reboot the phone regardless of what state it is in. If your buddy's been hit with the "sleep of death", this will boot the phone. Though I think this is a low probability if he tried pulling battery and putting it back.
Does it get a response if plugging it into the AC adapter? On the off chance the battery is completely dead. I'd like to think he tried this, though.
Has he tried another battery? Could be the battery lost the ability to hold a charge. Not common, but not unheard of either.
Doesn't seem to help. But I've told to let it charge the night and try again.
Any particular this happens? Seems random that it suddenly wont turn on.

Any particular reason? Sure. Most often, because the user installs something or flashes something they are not supposed to, to their phone. Or dropped it in water.

I wasn't trying to say YOU installed or flashed something. Maybe he did. Can I assume the phone was working when you gave it back to him? And that it was working fine for the three days after? Or was the phone in YOUR possession until he called you today?
I haven't had phone since i installed it. But I honestly don't think i he flashed anything.
He went out to jog - phone worked (listening to music)
He came home and placed the phone on the table - Phone worked
He did some exercises and when he came back - phone all black, can't get any response

You said he tried a battery pull? And no response after replacing battery?
Sure his battery is just not dead, bit odd if it had been working and suddenly this happens.
Most cases an app or something can cause the phone to restart, or freezes, usually a hard reset solves this by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
Or entering recovery mode, or download mode just to ensure they are working.
Make sure he can charge the battery.
If all fails you may need to try a jig.

[Q] No reaction from phone whats however

I've got my awesome galaxy s3 for about 4 months now.
I'm still using the stock firmware and I rooted it a few weeks ago.
Today, the phone battery was at about 95%, it suddenly completely stopped working in any way.
No led flashes or turns on when I plug it in to charge. No reaction when I turn it on. No reaction from my pc when I plug it in.
I also tried ODIN/ download mode and whatever there is left. No reaction at all.
Also, the ODIN tool doesnt see the phone and the pc doesnt(device manager).
I hope anyone can help me

I have exactly the same problem, I have ordered a jig to see if i can get into download mode. I am told this could be a motherboard problem though.
I have changed my screen so i do not think samsung will fix it under warranty
May Sound Stupid... but have you taken the battery out and left it for a minute then put it back in?
sure have. Have done everthing, charged overnight, took battery out for an hour, tried different battery.
I took it to a repair shop in a shopping center and they said they think the motherboard is dead

Jup, tried that too, no change
Same thing happened to me too... Phone suddenly died. Still waiting for the jig. If not then service warranty for us is the best thing we can do.
Here's a update on my phone.
I tried to use a jig, a friend on mine had one, but no change there either. So I send my phone to samsung with the warranty. I was a little scared here because I rooted my phone. A few days back I luckely got a message that my phone was returned. Apparantly, it was broken so badly thay they didnt found out it was rooted. ^^
They replaced my motherboard and I never found out what was wrong, probably something fried...

[Q] Battery stuck at 0%, need battery replacement?

Suddenly my phone won't charge. Do I need a new battery?
Here's the details ...
Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly (10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-i9100).
I've had it for almost 2 years.
If I leave it plugged in, everything works fine. I can boot it up and use it normally. The lockscreen display and status bar indicate that it's charging, but it stays at 0%. If I unplug the charger, it shuts down right away.
It also seems warmer than it should be while plugged in, but I'm not certain that's part of the problem.
The results are the same whether I use the charger or a USB cable connected to the computer.
There's an immediate reaction when I plug it in or unplug it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the charger or the port.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery with no change. I've also rebooted it several times... it shuts down when I unplug it anyway.
It just happened today, and I haven't installed or updated any software in the last several days. I have auto-updates in the Play store turned off. So it's not a software issue. The ROM was the last thing I updated and that was on the 30th.
I think the battery is really empty because I can't power it on at all if it's not plugged in. So, it's not just that the battery level indicator is wrong.
Hopefully, all I need is to replace the battery, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that or suggest what else might be wrong.
Thank you.
Check contact pins see if they are bent away or have crap on them. If not it sounds like the battery is dead, but I assume you already knew this.
I had already checked all connections and didn't find any damage or other problems. I bought a new battery today and that seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you.

I needed to write because this topic is on top on google results. I've lived the same today. A while ago i had a sudden battery decrease issue. There i was suggested to remove the battery and wait for a while. I tried this today. Removed the battery (simcard and memory card also... i just felt desperate). Waited for a while (i gues it was about half an hour). Plugged to charge. And my battery contiued charging from %61. I just showed wrong level.
This issue is happening to me too=/ but it happened to both my batteries in the space of two weeks
.
hi i have the same problem. i bought a new battery as mine was kaput. then a few days after that i needed a new charger port. now my phone wont turn on manually but when it is on charge it will randomly turn on for 10 seconds with 0% battery and then turn off. i tried doing the reboot with the power, home and vol up button but nothing happens. do i need another new battery?
I don't think it's the battery. I think it has something to do with these custom kernels and ROMs. I've been battling this problem for months with no results.
- I have a new battery, new cable, cleaned pins.
- Tried Lollipop, CM12 with kernel, one or two other kernels.
- Tried various KK ... CM11, Dominanx Kernel, some others too.
None work properly. I love all the updates but it's I just can't pin the problem down on my S2. I'd love to know what else I can do because I think I've exhausted all possibilities. Maybe JB is the only option? I dunno.
Help would be great on this.

I thought it might have been the pcb. I replaced that too but even that didn't completely revive the battery life. Went back and forth between JB and various customs mods to no avail. I ended up selling it for parts locally
Loved that S2 but it was time to walk away from it

I also had the same problem once. What I did was, went to recovery mode and charged for 1 hour and voila,it was charged till 21% only sadly. But by then,it has never rebooted like that!
hey ive also had a similar problem in which my j1 (Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016)) started to randomly shut down or restart around 2 months ago. Then, the battery would start jumping percentages like 100%, to 54%, then 33, back up to 84 in around 10 minutes. Then when I tried to charge it, it would stay at 0% and when Id unplug it, it would say 100% and shut down. Around late last month i ordered a replacement battery, it came in yesterday and worked fine up until a few hours ago. Now when i try to charge it it would stay at 0%.
Solution
1.Turn OFF Phone
2. Pull battery out
wait few sec
3. Connect charger
4. Put battery in
5. Turn Phone ON
Working for me. If not prob replace battery :fingers-crossed:

[Q] SGS2 won't turn on but shows charge symbol

Hi all
My phone was shutting off instantly without any reason for couple of days and then I would turn it on. My battery was also acting weird. Sometimes when I turn it on it was showing 30% battery while before it was at 70%. Today, it turned off and wouldn't turn on. I tried Vol Up/Down+HOME+Power button and Home+Power button but it wouldn't turn on or go into recovery/download mode. When I put it on charge, charge symbol shows for a second and then it would turn off and then again on and off and continues forever.
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
Either your battery is not accepting charge or is not getting any charge.
If you know someone else with an S2, ask to borrow their battery to find out whether your phone will boot.
I've a suspicion that you're going to have to replace either the battery or the USB charger port.....or maybe even both.
But the first thing to find out is if the phone boots with a 'known good' battery.
my wife says I'm a phone geek....
I'd have to agree......

Thanks a lot buddy for your reply.
An hour ago I put the phone on charge for about 15 minutes and the battery charging symbol stabilized. Then I pressed Power button and phone booted and was working fine. Then just to check, I shut off and it won't start again and came back to the same old problem. I would definitely battery from same phone and will let you know about the updates.
Regards,
Its a very weird problem. I have put the battery of my brother's SGS2 in my phone and the problem is same. Then when I put my battery in my brother's mobile then that mobile shows the same problem. After switching batteries many time, my brother's SGS2 with its own battery would show the same problem. In other words that mobile was dead also. Then I plugged out the battery from the other mobile and left it out for some time and plugged in again and mobile was ok.
After that I didn't risk to switch batteries again. I have the feeling that problem is not at hardware end. For some reasons my mobile's software is corrupting batteries. I remember to have re-calibrated the battery couple of days ago with software named "battery recalibrate". I am lost at what the problem might be and what to do anymore.
Pls help.

Just for the record. I discovered the solution to be ridiculously simple. Battery pins connection was loose and by just putting a foiled tissue paper at below corner of battery to strengthen connection of pins, all was back to normal. Ahh! it was such a relief.
Happy days glad you sorted it:thumbup:

P20 Lite won't turn on anymore, red LED blinking

Last Friday (24.09.2021) I changed my phone's battery. I cleaned my phone, somehow some alchool entered in the charging port then I plugged it in like an idiot. Luckly nothing else broke except the charging port so I ordered a new one. The phone was working fine at the time and I could have used it normally, just no charging.
Today I finally got it, switched it, tried to turn it on and it wasn't turning on. I put it to charge, expecting my battery to be just empty, and I see the red LED blinking and the screen wasn't turning on at all. At first I thought that it was just a faulty battery and I tried my old one, same results. I had an old P9 lite lying around so I decided to test my battery and it worked.
I'm worried that somehow I broke it even further and I won't be able to retrive my photos and important files back. Is there any way to fix it?

I think the only way to save your data is to extract the data from the emmc module and install it on a new motherboard (maybe I'm wrong, I'm not an expert). Ask the service center. But complete motherboard replacement is too expensive if you don't have a phone warranty...

Hi. It might be very very late, it's been one year since you posted this. But the exact same thing happened to me. Turns out you simply just need to force enter recovery, charge it a bit, maybe 5 minutes or so, then reboot.
Here's how I did that:
Back cover open.
Unplug battery.
[Be careful of static electricity]
Plug charger. The phone turns on.
Wait until it enters recovery mode.
Plug battery. Yes, in the phone on, recovery mode state.
Wait around 5 minutes.
Reboot.
If you can enter the main screen, wait a bit to see whether the battery is charging or not (the percentage goes up). If it's charging, then you can put everything back again.
If the phone stays dead when you plugged it with the battery unplugged, then maybe it's another hardware issue..

Thanks for replying, but unfortunately the problem still remains even after trying that. The furthest I could get is into recovery mode.
Bought a new phone a long time ago anyways, so it's no longer needed.
