How do I do it?
Your own AP or a public one?
On your own simply update dhcp settings on the AP itself.
On a public go to wifi settings, long press on the ssid you are connected to; check "advanced option" then switch to static ip and set your desired dns.

step 7:
Step 7:
How to Start-up Wi-Fi
1) Go to settings WI-Fi settings press volume up key, go to advanced then tick Static IP and enter the details as above.
IP Address: When you connect to your Wi-Fi router to assign you an IP so you need to get into your router and see what kind of an IP router has assigned you an IP and here you enter there.
Gateway (Default Gateway): You'll find in Windows when you give information about the connection.
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS1: You'll find in Windows when you give information about the connection.
DNS2: left blank
2) THEN we put down the Add access point to enter the SSID name of the Wi-Fi for which you want to join.
3) Turn off and turn on the Wi-Fi and connect to Wi-Fi as you're asked to enter the SSID.
SO MY question is where i gate the gateway; dns1 ssID or something else

Hi,
I have an I9100 running Android 2.3.3 XWKDD which I have rooted. I have installed wpa_supplicant version 0.6ah so the phone now recognises adhoc networks. I have used the wifi settings menu to set a static IP address and and netmask. I have not set values for the gateway or DNS servers because I don't need them.
My problem is that when I connect to any network (including the adhoc network) the phone does NOT use the static IP address but tries to get an address using DHCP and keeps looping. I have tried killing dhcpd and then setting the ip address and netmask manually and this allows me to ping other devices on the network. However, the wireless interface is periodically reset and dhcpd is restarted.
Is there a way of disabling dhcpd or getting the phone to use its static IP settings?

Earlier I had set some DNS Servers for use on my phone but now i want the DNS server to be decided by the router.
i.e. i want to clear my dns settings. but i do want to set a static ip for the wifi.
how do i proceed with it??
deleting the dns server from the menu provides an error(type a valid IP)
please help
Edit: i'm using 2.3.4 custom ROM.
how the heck did you set it in the first place?!
might have to have your phone "forget" the wifi hotspot, reboot, then re-add it...
Hello..
When I upgraded my android to 4.0.3 I can't find where to enter a static Ip address for Wifi. it's not in the advanced settings anymore, where did it go??
To set a fixed ip you must go to Settings, and wireless networks, wireless settings.
Then press the 'menu' button and from the pop-up menu go to 'Advanced'.
From there you can set up different things, among which also set up a fixed ip.
there is no wireless settings, you just click on advanced setting and no static ip is there, please check.

Click to collapse
Solution:
1. On the Wi-Fi
2. On your desired wireless network you wish to use static ip, long press,
3. Check show advance options
4. Change the ip from dynamic (dhcp) to static.
5. Then enter the static ip.
Done
Swyped from my Galaxy SII
I set my ip settings from DHCP to static, and changed my ip within the 255.255.255.0 boundaries, but beyond the DHCP auto selecting boundaries. Upon saving my desired changes, the phone does not connect to the internet. Setting it back to DHCP automatically works. I tried rebooting, closing chrome etc. What did I do wrong?
