I'm not sure why you would want to. The XT912 has GSM functionality. I use mine in Germany on Telekom with no issues what so ever. The XT912 is sim unlocked for any GSM carrier outside the US. Plus, from what I've read the supported bands on the XT910 don't play nice with US GSM carriers; I believe you are limited to Edge data speed. (Don't quote me).

Yes, I know GSM is unlocked outside of the US, but I travel in and out of the US frequently, (several times a week sometimes) and well, as soon as I get in to the US I am SOL...plus, I really dont want to roam with data, as Int's data roaming is an arm and a leg (literally).....
Also, the price of the XT is crazy expensive, where if I could buy an XT910 with lest say a broken lcd and in bad shape, I could just swap boards.
Its not hard. I have actually taken and repaired several XT912's, BUT, NEVER have a had my hands on an XT910....

I'm guessing you are trying to use the phone with either ATT or T-mobile in the US as well as maintaining foreign carrier. If you have taken apart and repaired Razrs before then I would say go ahead and try it out. http://www.etradesupply.com/motorola/android-models/motorola-droid-razr-xt910.html?p=2 There is a good site for a lot of Razr parts.
So what happened? Did it fit? I would love to know if a xt 912 sceen would fit into a xt910. @jessel did you ever buy from etrade? how was it?
yes! it works fine. i am using verizon razr with xt910 mainboard.

Yep, it will.
The EU rom is for the EU phone. The Verizon phone is different in several ways, and it is not compatible. Besides that, the Verizon RAZR isn't even GSM compatible at this point. It's CDMA/LTE only right now, so you couldn't get it working natively on any network in Europe anyway.

what are you talking about,in the link above they say its gsm
are you guys sure you are giving me correct information about what i am asking?
if i should brick my phone with this process can i recover and go back with the original firmware unbrcking it?
That link is wrong. If you buy an XT912 Droid RAZR, you will have a very expensive paperweight. You need an XT910. There is no GSM support on the XT912. It has the hardware for both CDMA & GSM, but the GSM portion is disabled just like on the Droid Bionic. And no, due to Motorola kernel signatures and partition sizes, the stock ROMs are not cross-compatible.
Feel free not to believe us, it's your money.

what about motorola pro the verizon one and photon are they also without gsm?
You will not brick it simple you cant flash it with rds due signature mistmatch unless you have a unlocket bootloader.
droid pro was hacked by TBH i think. gsm radio was hacked and then it was working with tmobile/att.

Photon works just fine, it was designed to be a dual mode CDMA/GSM device from the start. No 900mhz UMTS with the Photon, though (And USSD codes don't work).

you are talking about xt912?so it actually have a sim slot,if yes, unlolcked bootloader is a different thing than entering a code for unlocking the phone i suppose . . .
i still havent got the xt912 ,but i found this guide, will it work for the xt912 too in your opinion?

The SIM slot in the XT912 is for LTE, not GSM.. And 100% no to the "Will the X8 bootloader unlock work" question. Sony Ericsson are a completely different kettle of fish to Motorola. We've just spent months waiting while Kholk and the Eternity Project devs worked on a bypass, the bootloaders currently cannot be unlocked and likely never will be unless Motorola feel charitable.
I hate to say it, but you seriously need to do a lot more research before you waste your money on a CDMA phone that is no use to anyone outside the USA.

i am going to consider the htc vivid ,lg nitro or atrix 2
is there a way to recocnize any gsm/almost gsm american phone that will not work in europe without asking each time in forums?maybe there is some kind of updated list somewhere . . .i always bought gsm phones from ebay u.s and they always worked ,guess i had been lucky till now
good news guys. Verizon is gonna unlock the gSM bands on droid razr. xt912.

Hello, i'm looking for a RAZR to replace my 4-months old Atrix 4G, i'm a Telcel GSM user, sooo... i don't need a CDMA RAZR...
I went to ebay, looking for prices, models and stuff like that, i saw that the XT912 models are cheaper than XT910 models.
After looking for both specs from PhoneArena, i came to the conclusion that XT912 is CDMA and XT910 is GSM/CDMA, am I right?
Since I don't trust some auctions in ebay, because some people lists the wrong model, etc. I'm justs asks if they RAZRs have SIM trays for GSM use, this is a answer i received:
Yes the sim tray is in there just not the sim card. It is the XT912
Soo... my question is, the XT912 model is GSM-capable???? because like everyone else, i don't like bad surprises...
What should I do? Try looking for the XT910 model?? Most auctions are for Canadian RAZRs XT910... i'm curious because i don't plan to spent +$300 for a phone that don't support GSM... Thank you and sorry for my english
Yes, 912 is CDMA, 910 is GSM. Don't get the XT912, it'll be an expensive paperweight.
Long story short, they may well have exactly the same hardware, but A. We have no concrete proof either way, and B. Getting a device in the hopes that sorta kinda maybe there's a possibility it might be of use to you in the future is an expensive gamble, especially when the bootloader is locked.

soo... what could be the best reliable way to identify the GSM version? To say: "Hey, would you check XXXX thing to verify is GSM-capable?"

I'd like to replace my Droid X2 with the Razr MAXX, I see this is one of my options on verizon for a "world" phone.
I never expected my career to literally and figuratively "take off" as it has, and now I really need to adapt.
I want to be able to just use prepaid SIM cards when I'm in europe, but being the nerd/geek/technomancer I am (depending on who you talk to)
I just want to be sure that I can still screw with this thing without inhibiting my ability to use DATA and VOICE overseas on a GSM network.
I see that these roms are GSM/CDMA specfic, and if I switch to a GSM network, do I also have to switch to a GSM rom?
and yes, I will void this fukker's warranty the day I bring it home, I can't remember the last computer/tablet/phone that I haven't done that to.
I REALLY like my Droid X2 with the extended battery + CM7, It has been without a doubt the single most reliable phone I've ever owned. (so many people complain about it, but I think they just suck at technology) There isn't a single thing (aside from flashing a new kernel) that I haven't been able to do with/to it. Right now, my biggest dislike about it is the cracked digitizer (it fell out of my pocket onto a concrete slab approx 50ft below me, and all it did was crack the digitizer, thing still works FLAWLESSLY) so I'm pretty sold on motorola despite all the hate.
so are there any globetrotting verizon customers out there that have experience with this or am I going to have to just go out on a limb and do it? if worse comes to worse, I'll just buy a galaxy note and use that in the EU when I'm here, and use my razr maxx when I'm not.
I always have been and forever will be a fan of anything motorola that has the ability to Tx/Rx... they do radios right!
I think that you can't change CDMA to GSM, both are different technologies, that's why there are specifically ROMS for CDMA and GSM.

i believe lots of over seas people would buy the verizon maxx and use it via gsm because the gsm maxx took a long time to be released.
so data should work fine (and voice to) just no US gsm carriers.
and Dany.zam
both versions have the same radio, it supports cdma and gsm, gsm is just blocked on the verizon one (for us use), and i believe cdma is blocked or not given an esn number for the gsm one.

I don't think the GSM one has a CDMA radio at all, as it would be pointless in markets where its sold.
well, I can always SBF it if it comes down to it, or just have two phones. I like the galaxy note better anyway in terms of hardware/features (I like having a stylus, keeps fingerprints off the screen surface and is good for some of the dirty nasty sweatiness that work gets me into)
Ok, I'll be back in the states in less than a week, Gotta buy a new phone anyway (was using my Droid X2 as a camera and I broke it, dropped it off the top of a fully extended genie lift onto the concrete below) so.
I see there's "2nd system" support using the webtop partition, so I can keep a "daily driver" rom and have another one to experiment with correct?
anyone know of roms that work well on BOTH CDMA and GSM after the radiocomm hacks?
I will be buying this thing full retail from a verizon store.
I give zero fukks if it works on ATT or any US GSM carrier, I only need GSM for european travel.
can I use prepaid sims in europe or should I "rent-a-sim" from one of those sim rental outfits?
if anyone has any real world experience with flashing/hacking this phone and globetrotting, POST UP!
it must work for in-country voice calling, and be able to provide wifi tethering everywhere I have signal.
I will be mostly in germany, the netherlands, france, great britain and spain outside the US. (in order of frequency/importance)
This is a world phone stock, it contains both GSM and CDMA radios, I'm more concerned with how different custom roms interact with the radio and if they work properly for Voice, MMS, SMS and Data on prepaid sims vs. "contract" sims in the european union.
Hello:
I should be getting a Droid Razr (Verizon) tommorow. I plan on using it on ATT. I saw some hacks that enable the U.S GSM band, including the Radiocomm hack. Could anyone shed some light on what steps I should take? Im looking forward to it and Ive seen that people had it working on U.S gsm. Also can you downgrade from ICS to GB?? Thank you to whoever helps me and cheers if it works!
As far as downgrading no its impossible due to the locked boot loader.

At the present time there is no current way to get the Verizon XT912 variant working on US GSM. There are a few genius' out there working on a NON-HLOS fix possibly by using the S3 files or there may be a NON-HLOS.bin usable when JellyBean finally hits the XT910 and XT912. From all of the research I've done, this is the only current method we have.

If you want a RAZR for AT&T you want to get the XT910. Check out eBay and/or www.mobilecityonline.com (That's where I got mine) The XT910 is only HSPA, but still plenty fast; plus the battery life is very good. I have an Atrix HD too, but I keep swapping back to the RAZR for the "FREE Mobile Hotspot" no tethering plan required due to the unbranded OS(ICS 4.0.4) Can't wait to get Jelly Bean!!!!

Thanks..but expensive hah. I guess i'll look into buying a Droid Bionic on craigslist. Does that work?? I saw a bunch of people got it to work+theres a youtube video about it. Will it work if its already been OTA updated to ICS??
Maybe someone with more expertise will reply, but I'm pretty sure IF you do get a Verizon "World" phone as they call them to work on AT&T, I don't think you will get more than EDGE speeds for data cause I don't think they have AT&T's 3G/4G bands. Anyway, good luck with your search.
As far as the Bionic goes, I've known a few people to rock that, unfortunately all of them had the same issues with dropped calls, random reboots, and data loss. If you have one lying around, why not. But I would strongly recommend against spending your money on one (or time for that matter) with the sole purpose of taskin it on GSM. Patience is key as the GSM fix is being resolved. We have many people including myself taking many various approaches to the solution. Shouldn't be long. I'm really hoping whatever the fix found can be applied to the D4. I hooked my Mom up with my D3 tweaked to Straight Talk last year and now have a D4 kicking around collecting dust until I can set her up with it. So I'd be really happy if the fix were able to be ported *hint, hint, wink, wink>Dev's
I been trying to unlock my xt912 but no luck yet i was unable to find unlock code. But if u dial #073887* its asks u for network unlock code..

i want to get a razr maxx from ebay.. and usually the ones with bad ESN have a lower price.. I'm in Chile so my question is if i can still use this phone in GSM network in my country, even if it has bad ESN.
as i understand with the ICS upgrade all the XT912 were unlocked to work as GSM phones outside the US.
i dont really understand the ESN thing.. i know it is something related to Verizon.
the other question i have, what if the phone is not "activated" in verizon, now assuming it has a clean ESN, but it is not activated in any company in the US.. if i put my sim card will still work as a GSM phone? and in case the phone needs to be activated in verizon, if it has a clean ESN can i activate it from my country sending an email to verizon or something like that?
As far as I know you should be able to use it.
